I have an old end unit rowhouse in Upper Fells Point that had a large crack in the brick extending from the 1st floor through the 2nd floor. Stinebaugh provided what I would consider to be a fair price to complete the work. The job came out looking great, and they ended up having some extra time on the contract which they used to replace a few bricks and patch at the front of the house. I plan to use Stinebaugh again in the fall to fix/replace exterior cracked brick as well as replace all four front window lintels.

Eric and his team did an amazing job repointing cracks throughout our stone house. They rebuilt a badly damaged and previously poorly repaired, repeatedly poorly repaired, portion of the wall outside the garage that now looks like new. They replaced a rusting and failing lintel over a diamond leaded glass window that is important to us and it looks amazing. You cannot tell at all where any of this work has been done, the house looks like new, you would never know where repairs have been done. The front path and stairs look new! Neighbors have stopped by to complement the work. Eric was easy to get a hold of and very responsive to any questions about the process. It took a while to schedule, but that is because they do meticulous, perfectionist work. They are worth the wait! The prices are very fair also, particularly given the time, work, and skill level involved.
Description of Work: Repointing of stone house, blue stone walkway and stairs, and fireboxes. Repair and replacement of loose blue stone stairs, replacement of lintel above leaded glass window, adjustment of tilted window ledges collecting water, power washing.

We were very pleased with Steinbaugh Masonry The owner Eric came out to meet us in the summer and told us the word give us a quote which he did by email. It was a small job and took only a day and a half. Our brick front porch is like new and will probably last another 40-50 years. The price was reasonable, and the work area was left clean. We now have a safe and gorgeous front porch again. Highly recommend!

Eric's company was extremely skilled, careful, professional and responsive from start to finish. We first contacted him upon recommendation of a trusted neighbor in Spring 2020, to address our apparently misaligned and possibly collapsing front marble steps. Our house is a large 1890 Baltimore rowhouse. Eric told us that it would be months before he could start our job, but he gave us a complete estimate for the repair and reconstruction work on our steps' support structure and assured us that he and his crew were experienced in just these sorts of jobs, showing us photos of several similar large marble jobs they had completed. Eric was true to his word, starting the job in early fall and finishing within a few weeks' time. The steps look fantastic! The support structure is firmly grounded, solid and completely level. Eric walked us through the selection of the sealing cement between the steps and the steps' finish and it turned out just as we'd hoped, matching the look and feel of the rest of the house's facade. The cost was exactly what Eric had projected. If I have one constructive comment, it is that the Stinebaugh crew could have taken more care with sealing off the basement openings under the steps before and during the work, as more dust and draft than expected found its way into our basement apartment. I recommend that anyone facing a similar situation be sure to give specific instructions to avoid the dust and draft. Otherwise , I give Stinebaugh Masonry the highest recommendation.

Wow! Our home was built in 1972 and is a brick rancher. This company did an outstanding job. They replaced what bricks were damaged and redid the wall. They even treated it to a wash that made the bricks match the originals. No one else could have done such an excellent job as the mortar color was one that was discontinued 15 years ago. Eric searched and found someone who had the color and matched our home completely. Jose did the work and was timely, knowledgeable and personable. He arrived on time, worked hard, and cleaned up after himself. I can't say enough good things about this company. I would recommend this company for any stone or brick work that you need done.

Mr. Stinebaugh provided an estimate and wrote up a contract for the chimney work in a very timely fashion. He is very professional and has many years of experience, both of which shine through in the extremely high quality of work he performs. My chimney and crown look absolutely amazing and will stand the test of time. His crew was also fantastic and their cleanup was beyond impressive. I would recommend Stinebaugh Masonry for ANY project that requires brick or stonework because Mr. Stinebaugh takes a lot of pride in his work and he brings a level of quality to a project that is unparalleled.

I can not say enough good things about the work done by Stinebaugh Masonry. Eric and his crew were totally professional, friendly and knowledgeable In all regards. They were efficient and neat throughout the project. Our biggest concern was matching 30 year old brick and Eric found replacement bricks that are a 100% match. My wife will tell you that she is very demanding on any work done on the house. Stinebaugh Masonry exceeded hers and my expectations. Highly recommend.

Wonderful. Eric's mason's were top notch employees, built the scaffolding and protected a bush by the house, and did a fantastic remodeling, chimney pointing, and replaced 12-14 layers near the top of our old chimney. It looks fantastic now. I had at least 3 other estimates, but Stinebaugh's reviews and ratings were all A rated, so I went with the highest rated chimney repair company, and we are so happy we did. Excellent work. I will ONLY recommend this company to anyone seeking advice for masonry work in my area. Superb company and employees all the way around.

Eric was very knowledgable and thorough in his approach to my house. He and his workers are very skilled and are a throw-back to the days when you could do a deal on a handshake. His guys showed up at my house every day at 7:00 AM like clockwork for 5 weeks and worked hard all day. He visited my job on a regular basis and communicated very well. Eric finished the work ahead of budget and I had him complete some additional brick repair work that i thought i couldn't afford within the price of the original contract.

I had an excellent experience with Eric and his team. I found him on Angie's list and did my research about other work he's done around town. He's honest and direct, delivers top notch work, treats his staff well, and goes above and beyond to guarantee that the job is done just right. His estimate was higher, but the truth is in the details and the finished product. I don't have a personal connection to Eric beyond the relationship we established professionally, but have had such different experiences with other masons that I wanted to write. Mr. Stinebaugh's estimate was a bit higher than I expected--I had removed formstone from another home for cheaper--but I soon realized why, and have never questioned the value. Some things I wish others had told me years ago: This work can be done more cheaply, but you will notice the difference and be disappointed. I paid about 5k for this work on another home in the past, but I regret it. The other mason did not obtain necessary permits; he left hazardous waste in a barrel in a nearby alley; they left my brick in a state of disrepair, patching some spots sloppily but without replacing bricks or repointing with any care; they were unreachable when I tried to complain (I filed with BBB); workers were not professional, trained masons; etc. It was a sloppy patchwork that left me frustrated--and feeling cheated--every time I looked at it. My experience was different with Eric. He stuck with the original estimate even when there were surprises; he added decorative touches (e.g., to cornis) that I was not expecting; his staff were well-trained and highly professional; he re-pointed the entire home, matching and replacing all bricks as needed; he was above board in all areas--cleaned up, took safety precautions, etc.; he was responsive and came in on time and on budget; and he even came back to make a free repair after I gouged the brick trying to hang a number plate (he fixed the brick and hanged the number plate for free). In short, I am very happy to have done the job right with someone I could trust. The home is stunning.

Stinebaugh did a nice job on the marble front steps and the back yard brick work. Cost for both reasonable. However, be careful with his quotes. When asked for a price to remove formstone, the owner quoted 17,000 to 20,000, with the latter the charge if his crew found lead paint under the stone. His quote was way out of line when compared to other Masonry companies who worked in the neighborhood, removing formstone, cleaning the brick, including lead paint, and pointing. Other masons quoted and or charged neighbors from 2500 to 4000 tops. Why such a high quote from Stinebaugh I do not know. Just be careful and compare.

Eric Stinebaugh is knowledgeable and professional. His staff were punctual and tidy. They did an excellent job of repairing our 126 year old brickwork and even went beyond the stated scope of the work to fix small problems that were noticed while working. Eric's work might be more expensive than other companies, but you are paying for his expertise and high skill level. I highly recommend this company.

I can't say enough good things about Stinebaugh Masonry. This was a major project that took almost two months to complete, which was just what Eric Stinebaugh, the owner, estimated. The work crew showed up on time every day and did beautiful work. Their work is very precise and everything ended up absolutely perfect. Eric Stinebaugh is very knowledgeable and doesn't miss a single detail. He's also very creative and came up with great design ideas. In a project this large, you might expect some problems to come up along the way, but there were none. Every detail was anticipated and Eric and his team were great to work with throughout the entire project. I highly recommend Stinebaugh Masonry and would definitely use them again.

Eric Stinebaugh came out and estimated the rebuild and chimney repair, plus chimney improvements. He described his approach to the cellar way rebuild in detail. He proposed corbels on the top of both chimneys for looks. The cellar way repairs consisted of a rebuild from the ground up, using both horizontal and vertical rebar, and ties into the house foundation in several spots, which the original mason had neglected to do. Eric's crew did a highly professional job and I am very pleased with the results. The chimneys look great and greatly improve the overall looks of my house. Eric came to the site every day to check on the work and bring materials. The work looks great. His estimate was right on in cost and schedule and he cleaned up the site. He was easy to work with, well-organized and provided a contract with all work listed and stuck to it.
Description of Work: My outside cellar entrance way made of block was caving in due to poor initial construction and 40+ years of water/ice damage. I needed to fix it, and decided to also improve my two brick chimneys, placing a thicker concrete cap on them.

He and his employees did a fantastic job. They were very thorough. They arrived on time each day and cleaned up when they were finished. My property is on the water and portions of it sank, which in turn, caused the brick wall to crack and on spots closest to the water, the bricks were so battered that they needed replacing. His men dug out sections of the wall and replaced top caps that had also gotten beat up by the weather. He made sure that there were no longer any gaps where water could enter and cause future damage, especially during winter freezing. Mr. Stinebaugh and his crew paid close attention to the colors of each item used, whether it be grout, bricks or caps to ensure that they matched up to our current colors. He did a very professional job and I am thankful that I took the time to research my contractor prior to hiring. His previous reviews were excellent and I must agree with those reviews. I am very pleased with his work ethics and commitment to doing the best job possible.
Description of Work: Mr. Stinebaugh repaired and/or replaced sections of the brick wall around my property and my steps. He also replaced a concrete sidewalk, two pads, and dug out 4 large hedges that I wanted removed from my yard.

I was so pleased to get the back step completed! Masonry work is in high demand. Mr. Stinebaugh and I communicated via phone and email, and he came to see what needed to be done and provide his estimate on July 25, 2016. The work was done by 2 men on Feb. 23, 24, and 27, 2017. They gave me a new back step, and did some pargeting along the outside basement wall to cover my attempts at covering cracks, and did some repointing of cracks inside in my basement. Because I don't really have a comparison to the cost, I did not grade it. However, I would be willing to hire Mr. Stinebaugh again.

The job was done with craftsmanship, pride, and artistic use of the stone's colors. Eric came with ideas of materials and designs including photos of other jobs. He stayed until the job was done right. The contract was honored even when bad weather made working a challenge and materials increased in price..
I reached out to Eric, and he got back to me right away. He told me that he was interested in working with me, but warned me that he had a long lead time before he could get to my project (~6 months). With that understanding, he came out to look at my house and provided a detailed, worst-case scenario estimate. Eric is not cheap; however, he assured me that he prides himself on never going over budget and periodically coming in under. Because of this and his excellent reputation, I took a leap of faith and was duly rewarded. Eric's craftsmanship exceeded my expectations and even exceeded the scope of work that we originally laid out. For example, I failed to ask Eric to remove the paint on the back wall. When I asked him to do this after he started the project, I was expecting additional charges. Instead, he told me that the joints were coming out faster than he had expected and that he could probably do it within the original budget (this added a week to the project and he didn't charge me extra). As we dug into the front of the house, we found that some of the sandstone was badly eroded. Eric showed me the problems and did the repairs without charging me extra. When Eric's team repoints brick, they don't just scratch out the loose stuff and smear cement on top. They use angle grinders fitted with appropriately-sized diamond blades to surgically remove the old mortar 1 inch deep. Eric's team replaces joints with mortar that matches the original color hidden deep between the bricks. When the bricks are bad, they cut them out and replace them with new ones that look like the originals (Note: in retrospect, I wish that I had asked them to use reclaimed brick from Brick & Board [*** Link removed ***] because I'd like to support this local company). My project, which included the front and back of my five story building and 7 chimneys, took more than a month to complete. Eric met his team on site nearly every morning and gave me regular updates. It was a genuine pleasure to go out and talk to Eric and his excellent staff. His team was friendly and considerate and did all that they could to minimize disruptions to my life inside the house. I actually kind of missed them when they finally finished. In summary, Eric and his staff are true artisans with a commitment to good customer service, fair pricing and the preservation of historic properties in Baltimore. If you need masonry work and you want it done with integrity, call Eric.
Description of Work: I have a circa 1870s brownstone in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore that needed repointing, chimney work, and sandstone repair. There's tons of shoddy masonry repairs in Baltimore, so I read a lot of reviews and talked to a lot of people to try and find someone who could do the work correctly. This led me to Eric Stinebaugh, who has a stellar reputation for doing high quality work.
