Description of Work: Eric and his team went above and beyond in tuckpointing my historic rowhouse, to the point that a damaged wall was actually rebuilt precisely and cleanly. Eric was flexible with pricing to make sure that I received the product that I needed in a manner that matched my budget. I would recommend Stinebaugh Masonry to anyone that needs expert masonry done at an affordable price.

Description of Work: Removed an old block retaining wall and built a new retaining wall. They were very pleasant and professional, they worked tirelessly, and completed the job in a timely manner, in spite of some bad weather. They cleaned up all of the debris and hauled it away and left the area clean and tidy. We are very happy with our new retaining wall.

Description of Work: They completely removed and redid the stone front porch and steps. They also did a small stone area at our back door. They did a great job! They were very professional and were on time everyday. We plan to use them again on our next project and I highly recommend them for anyone else.

The job went extremely well. The work perfomed is of exceptional quality. It is apparent that Eric is a very skilled mason who approaches his work as a true craftsman. He understands stone and knows how to work the stone to achieve the desired result. In my case, he created a new bluestone mantle from a slab of bluestone stair tread. He created a rough face on the slab which he referred to as a "rock face" which gives the stone a wonderful character and appearance. He will be returning in the near future to rebuild the entry stoop in front of my house, and I am looking forward to the result.

Eric responded quickly to my call and came to my house in two days to give me an estimate for the work. Eric described what what would be involved to rebuild the mailbox and how he would do the work He was very straight forward about the costs and how he charged for his work work. Eric gave me an estimate based upon time and materials. Eric kept me informed about what he going to do, and when he would do it. I am very pleased with my experience with Eric and his helper Salvador. The work was done extremely well, and I feel I got my money's worth. I would hire Eric again for any type of masonry work. Eric went out of his way to find brick that matched my neighbor's house, even though the brick was an odd size and had not been made in a number of years.
Description of Work: In mid January, while backing out of my driveway my foot slipped off of the brake pedal, hit the gas pedal, and I destroyed my neighbor's masonry mailbox. The mailbox was approximately 2' W X 2' D X 5' H and built with an odd sized white brick.

Eric is a very competant mason. I thought my steps were a solid concrete form with stone (Butler stone, he called it, because it came from Butler, MD) adhered over it. He let me know it was actually just a hollow form with fill to take up the void. I had told Eric that I only needed a temporary fix, as I plan to have my house remodeled in 2013, which will include the steps. Eric and his assistant went beyond just a "temporary" fix--or maybe you could say a temp fix that will last 20yrs. They ground out all the old mortar, reset the missing stones (which I had kept), and remortared just about everything. It was night and day, how the steps looked after they were put back together. When it came to the first step that had shifted due to the quake, Eric showed me how it was really only made up of bricks heavily overlaid with concrete, and I found myselt staring at a hole in the ground of, what looked to me, to be about 18" deep. There was no way to save the step. So he rebuilt it, setting the two iron railings back in place. He even constructed a wood block under my porch for the one railing, in order to have something solid for the bolt to bite into, as the wood on the porch had rotted with the moisture. Now I don't have to worry any longer about someone breaking their neck trying to get to my front door. He did all this extra work and came in on the $1,400 estimate he quoted. But be warned, those of you who like to sleep in late, he does start the day early--like 7am early. The only suggestion I would give to improve his business is to setup being able to take credit cards. That would really help those for whom such repairs are an emergency. I hope my review makes sense.
Description of Work: Repair of stone steps. Several stones had come up, the mortar was falling apart due to excessive rain from Irene and the remants of Lee, the bottom step had shifted due to East Coast earthquake, and one railing had completely been come free from steps and porch.

Eric was very responsive in coming to our home to meet us and give us an estimate on our work. Excellent communication in describing what our job would entail and his ability to perform it. He showed us many examples of his previous work although ours was more of a maintenance issue than a decorative project. He was very up front about the costs involved and how his charges work. It is very helpful to have an estimate based upon time worked instead of by the job because then you know someone will not just rush around to get the job done. And they worked very efficiently. We are very pleased with our entire experience with Eric. The work was done extremely well, explained in depth, and we feel we really got our money's worth and are confident that his repairs will last. We would hire him again for this type of job and hope to have another opportunity to work with him on any future enhancements to our home involving stonework.

Use this guy. Not only did Eric do everything asked on time, within budget, and with a really good eye for detail, he also cleaned up a bunch of issues all across the front of the house done by the previous owner including bad caulking, poorly done repairs, and a few other bricks that were coming loose. Everything looks fantastic.

I hired Eric Stinebaugh Masonry because he stood out from the 5 or 6 other masons that came to do estimates. He took the time to go over each step of the process, immediately brainstormed ideas about how to handle the weight distribution, and was clearly excited by the challenge. His estimate was higher than the others, but I decided I'd rather hire a mason who was up front about the engineering challenge rather than simply brushing off my concerns as not a big deal. Even I could see simply widening the entrance could lead to future problems, and Eric was the only mason who laid out a clear plan of how to deal with it. Prior to beginning each stage of the project, Eric kept me fully apprised of what he'd do, how he'd do it, why it had to be done, and the expected time to completion. He and his crew were very conscientious about keeping the area clean and free of debris, materials were packed away each night, and he carefully kept track of his work hours to ensure I was paying him appropriately and could track my expenditures. One aspect about working with Eric that I particularly enjoy is the pride he takes in his work. He was so into this project that it was like he was working on his own home - he was just as determined to get my vehicle to fit into the garage as I was, and that made the project a lot of fun. I'm glad I've found a mason I can trust and work well with, because I live in a 100+ year old solid brick home that needs plenty of maintenance and improvements.
Description of Work: My home's garage was an eyesore and the entrance not wide enough to fit anything other than a tiny sports car (and it was a very, very tight squeeze), which limited its use. I hired Eric Stinebaugh Masonry to widen the entrance, do considerable masonry repairs to the brickwork around the entrance, and to eliminate the need for wood framing. The immediate problem was engineering a way to distribute the weight of the cross beams holding up my office above the garage, since widening the garage entrance would remove the existing distribution of weight above and to the side of the entrance. It is not visible from the front, but Eric devised a clever arch of sorts that supports the weight and allowed the entrance span to be expanded to eight feet. If he was not able to do it, I would have had to stop the project, so I was relieved to see his plan to handle the weight and support the cross beams. Essentially, Eric redid the entire front portion of my garage wall. He repointed the joints with new mortar, removed many damaged and discolored bricks, eliminated an obvious window that had been bricked up some time in the past, added a new lintel, built up the area between the lintel and garage ceiling with bricks (before, that area was just covered up with wood), framed the entrance, and prepared the interior for installation of a new garage door. This was a big project, and Eric did a fantastic job start to finish. (And just FYI, you can see one of the steel support beams across the front of the garage. That will be covered up by a copper awning to come in my next project).

I was very impressed with Eric from the very first contact. Punctual, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional - that he cares about his craft is evident, and he really focuses on making the customer happy. His payment structure was clear and reasonable, he began work promptly and worked nearly non-stop from start to finish. This project took him 3+ days to complete, not including the water test, final water repellent application, and finishing touches. One factor I really appreciated was his working within my budget. He determined it would be cheaper to rent a motorized lift rather than the typical scaffolding, and he made the most out of that rental by doing some touch up work in other spots on my home that would not be accessible without the lift. Overall, the whole process was very smooth. i could not be happier with the work he did.
Description of Work: An earthquake and hurricane within a few days of each other left my house in need of extensive masonry repairs. Eric went over every square inch of the facade and determined there were numerous issues. The arches over the windows had pulled away from the substructure, there were more than a few inch-plus cracks across the facade, missing mortar everywhere, cracked bricks, and plenty of holes that allowed water to freely enter my home. In addition, the presence of water behind the bricks was causing efflorescence patches to bloom that could become permanent if not addressed quickly. Eric made the repairs, repointed the masonry, replaced rows and rows of ruined bricks, sealed up cracks and holes, and then applied a water repellent. At the end, he performed a water test and not a drop came through the wall.

This was a great experience for us to work with Eric Stinebaugh. He was doing work on our neighbor's walkway and I had seen how he worked. My neighbor was very happy with the work that they were doing. We asked Eric to estimate our work and after that he gave us a realistic time that he would be able to start. The work started in the fall of 2010. The work would only happen on the weekends, as Eric has a regular job as a stone mason. This made the job take much longer than it otherwise would, but we were not in a rush and we already knew that we would like the result. Eric and his helpers arrived early in the morning, around 7am, and stayed hard at work until they left. They always cleaned up after themselves. We were kept fully aware of the progress, the money, and the schedule for the job throughout, and it was always a pleasure to talk to them. Eric is the stone mason and lays all of the stone himself, at least on our job. I know that he is teaching some of his workers the trade, so this may not always be the case. Because our job was being performed only on weekends, winter intervened. Eric asked if he could take care of another customer that needed the work done quickly, and we consented. Our work was left in a finished state before they started a new section, so this break did not hurt us. They resumed work in the spring of 2011 and finished within our agreed budget. We would be happy to have them work on our property again.
Description of Work: We had our stone walkway and steps rebuilt in areas that had severely shifted, cracked, or deteriorated. Our original stone was used for almost all of the new work, with only a small portion coming from new stone purchased by Eric. The new stone was purchased with our knowledge. Eric Stinebaugh was conscientious about rebuilding only the parts that needed to be rebuilt, and seamlessly joining up to the sections that were only being repointed. This was more challenging than rebuilding everything from scratch, but it was less expensive. Our stone walkway consists of stone some 3-4 inches thick and natural shapes. The stone is Butler stone, though the replacement was a different stone whose name I cannot remember. The new stone was chosen to match the existing, and to my eye there was no difference. On one set of steps, Eric left in the sloping line from the original step, and you can see that the new, level step is some six inches higher on one end. Each new section has a foundation of concrete with reinforcing mesh. The stone is laid on top of this foundation.

I needed someone to repair a cracked fireplace hearth. After having a hard time finding someone who understood what needed to be done or could expertly recommend what needed to be done and to respond to me, I finally joined Angie's List to look for a mason. I called several stone companies on Angie's List but known did the kind of work required. I finally came across Eric's listing and saw the high recommendations. I called Eric Stinebaugh and he was very responsive. I needed to work with him long distance as I live in New York and the work was to be done at my mother's house in the Baltimore area. Eric was proactive, responsible, and knew exactly how to do the work. He gave me the estimate and was proactive in getting the new stone that had to be cut and installed. He was flexible in meeting my friend who had to meet him at my mother's house to let him in. One week from when I first contacted him we had the stone and he did an amazing job installing it. I hope to include pictures (I don't have any before pictures but the old original stone was actually concrete and had been cracked on both sides). Eric replaced the stone with a piece of blue stone that is beautiful and much stronger than concrete. Eric and I had to both trust each other since we had never met and I lived in New York and he lived in the Baltimore area. That trust was well founded and I finally met him after the work was complete when I went to Baltimore to pay him. This was an incredibly smooth transaction and top-notch work!

Eric is punctual, professional and the quality of his work is excellent. HE does the work himself, he does not subcontract the masonry portion of his quote (he does bring a laborer.) He is **NOT** licensed or bonded, he is a full-time employee of a masonry company and does stonework on the side. I would recommend he get both of those and consider working stone as a profession, his work is top-notch. Our agreement was verbal and he never did a bit of work without consulting me first and there were no hidden costs. If you are particular about a written quote, ask for it up front. Ask to see his portfolio!!
Description of Work: Stone walkway leading to house on top of hill was badly damaged by recent snow storm. Eric pulled all the stone, poured a new base and reset all stone. This included a main porch area that had also shifted with settling of the house.

Eric was punctual and communicated well throughout the process. He provided a verbal (not written) estimate for the job based on an hourly work rate and supplies, which was ballpark accurate. He worked in the late afternoons and evenings. We were very satisfied with the quality of his work. He was considerably more professional than other masons we asked for estimates.
