They are good. Their prices are reasonable. I've had no problems with them. If they are going to be late they will call you and let you know.

The initial estimate went great, the tech was knowledgable and friendly. The customer service representative was also friendly and professional. Unfortunately they called me once to reschedule the appointment because of one of their electricians personal reasons. Then after the rescheduled they called me again to cancel because of another personal reason with the electrician. I wasted an entire day of leave and all they could say was "Do I want to reschedule again!" Yeah right.

Response from Wilcox Electric LLC
I understand the Member's reaction. We have two electricians that we would use for installing the generators. When the flu season wipes us out, we don't have a lot of flexibility, and some customers invariably get inconvenienced. I see in our records that we canceled the job one day before it was scheduled. We regret the inconvenience. I don't know all the details, but I did hear conversation in the office about it. It was noted that we let this Member down!

I hired Wilcox to perform a heavy-up after they did an excellent job securing a fried outlet and adding in an extra outlet. They were on time and professional. They did their best to minimize the holes necessary to ground the new electrical box. Although I had problems getting Pepco to come out to attach the wires, Wilcox followed up with them and made sure it got scheduled.

The electrician who came by to look at the hourse for the work was on time and professional. The quote for chandelier installation and one recessed light was much higher than other electricians I contracted. Also, I had to call twice to actually get the quote. Since they did not perform work, I cannot speak to the quality.

Oh, I have to object here. The estimate was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 27th. The Estimate was produced on Thursday, Nov. 29th. The Member was clearly eager to obtain a quote, but I do not consider a two day turn-around to be a delayed response.

It went really well. They did a great job. The guy who came to do it opened our electrical panel on our house and could not believe how well done it was. All the wires were perfectly done, everything was labeled. He was impressed with our electrical and he did a good job on our surge protector. The deal was great.

Initial contact with the company via phone went very well. I spoke with Tracey Wilcox and we quickly arranged for an estimate the following week on a mutually agreeable date. Stephen Wilcox arrived on time for the estimate and was thorough and provided some advice on the spot. This allowed me to make some simple repairs myself and saved me money in the long run. This is where things started to go down hill. Mr. Wilcox said it would take a few days to finish the estimate and he would send it my way. A week went by with no estimate, so I emailed the company. On 2 November I received the estimate, and immediately asked for an item to be removed and for the estimate to be updated. I received an email the next day stating that I would not be able to get an update until at least the 6th - this for only removing a single line item. (My estimate was not itemized so I could not do it myself, not knowing how long the removed job was supposed to take). I never received an update on the estimate, so on the 13th of November, I contacted the company inquiring as to the update. I received the update the next day. Since then, I have emailed the company and called the company (leaving messages) trying to get the work scheduled, but nobody will return my calls or emails. I thought I had found a good company based on their initial responsiveness, but the follow through has been terrible.
Description of Work: Company performed an estimate for multiple electrical jobs. Total estimate was approximately $1500. Based on my research, the price is fair and in line with the local market.

We really regret the lack of responsiveness. I have been having a terrible time filling the second, full time position in the office satisfactorily. Just last week, I let someone go because of these types of problems. We are working on it! (I am actively looking for responsible, mature, and diligent candidates for the office. If possible, please forward good people looking to working a good company to us!)

I called one week ago about a breaker switch that is not working properly and that has resulted in having no lights and partial power in the kitchen. The service call was scheduled for today at 12:00, with the understanding the technician would arrive between 12:00 and 1:00 PM. The technician never arrived before I had to go to work at 2:15 and I received no call with an explanation. It was made clear to Wilcox at the time the appointment was made that I would need to leave by 2:00 PM and was assured the technician would be punctual. When I called to find out what had happened the response was perfunctory and dismissive. Apparently the technician was running late and but did not think it important to inform the customer. There was no apology. So much for the Angie's List "A" rating and special award. I am now having to find another vendor.

I would like to apologize to the Member for the inconvenience and aggravation that he has experienced. We have spoken to the electricians this morning in our weekly staff meeting about the importance of communicating with customers, especially if an appointment cannot be honored. I must question the Member's claim, however, that no apology was given. I immediately knew who the Member spoke to in the office, and the employee tells me that he surely apologized. How could we not? He does have a manner of speaking that can be interpreted as dismissive, but that would not be accurate. He's basically an aging Hippie -- not a jerk! Nonetheless, I have asked him to be aware of his speaking style. We will try to do better! As always, thank you for the feedback, Tracy Wilcox

We did a Big Deal offer last year for a discounted, surge arrestor. Wilcox Electric doesn't do a lot of "upselling," but we do promote the use of surge arrestors. We believe in their value for two reasons: 1) the increasing amount of high-priced electronics in many households, and 2) the increasing unreliability of our region's aging, electrical infrastructure. In fact, we have experienced the value of surge arrestors in our own office. After losing a printer to a power surge about two year ago, we installed a surge arrestor on the electrical panel. Since that time, another storm damaged the surge arrestor, but no electrical equipment was harmed. And, yes, we have one installed in our home too!

Steve came out to give us an estimate of how much the work would cost. He was the only estimator among several we contacted over the past few months that actually got back to us with a quote when he said he was going to. That was already a great start. Even companies with high ratings here on Angie's list had let us down. On the day they were scheduled to do the job, Tom, the electrician, and his assistant arrived a couple of hours late, which was a bit disappointing. But that was the only negative aspect about the experience with Wilcox Electric. The job was finished on time and it was performed very well. Tom was very helpful and friendly throughout the process. Overall, we are happy with the company and would hire them again.
Description of Work: Wilcox Electric installed two additional recessed lights in our living room, did all the electrical work and installed ceiling fixtures in both bedrooms (where we previously had floor lamps), and installed a new exhaust fan in the bathroom. They also installed unplanned cabinet lighting in the master bedroom wardrobe for no extra charge.

I am pleased that Steve submitted his estimate in a timely way! It is interesting for me (Steve's wife) to learn about the "baseline" that exists for contractors. I think they generally prefer to be out in the field, so the paperwork may suffer sometimes. Those of us in the office at Wilcox Electric sometimes have to harness Mr. Wilcox to his desk! But seriously, we work hard to be responsive and to provide value. We appreciate the feedback immensely, as it tends to be a good, accurate reflection of how we are performing.

We had a short in our household electical system. One of our breakers would not stop tripping and after trying to troubleshoot the problem by myself it became apparent that I needed to call an electrician. We found the highly rated Wilcox Electric on Angie's List and we gave them a call. When Dale arrived he proceeded to troubleshoot the problem in a methodical fashion. After an hour or two he had the problem localized and repaired. He was very courteous and professional. We had a very good experience with the folks at Wilcox Electric and recommend them highly.

Wilcox was the last of three contractors I contacted to electrify my detached garage. It seemed like a tough job that would require running the lines through my interior walls, requiring holes to be punched in the drywall in order to feed the lines. However, the Wilcox estimator studied the house and offered an innovative solution to run the wires from the box at the front of my house to the garage behind my row house by going under the house, even though there was no crawl space access. We were able to schedule the work within a week of accepting the contract estimate. The electricians dutifully completed the project on time for the amount that had been estimated.

Thank you for the kind remarks. The estimator was Steve Wilcox, the company owner. He is really good at figuring out how to minimize the damage or impact on DC homes when running wires. He knows a lot about the construction of the older homes. I am glad that we were able to do good work here. Tracy Wilcox

They arrived on time and were most professional. I was pleasantly surprised with the end result because I had expected there to be considerable drilling into the walls inside. The electricians ran the line on the outside of the house and into and under the basement ceiling to the panel. They performed the work within the quoted estimate and I was most satisfied! I would highly recommend them.

I called them in (again) to fix a switch, and install some ceiling lights. I have used Wilcox before and found them good, but on this occasion I was disappointed. They sent two guys, one of which spent most of his time on my porch smoking. They installed an outside porch light, but did a sloppy job. They tried and failed to fix the switch, despite Wilcox electric having told me that it was all do-able with two men (double the rate!). The two guys who came blamed their failure on the *previous* Wilcox electric guy who came round. Note to Wilcox, if your own staff bad moth your own staff in front of client, you have a problem. Finally, they did manage to install one ceiling light, and did a decent job. But to pay $300 for that? seems excessive.

I am truly dismayed to learn that a Wilcox Electric employee was smoking while on a customer's property. This issue will be raised at the next staff meeting in the most serious terms. I regret that this Member had such a disappointing experience with the guys. The problem of speaking poorly about one's colleagues crops up once in awhile, I am sorry to say. It will likewise be raised at the next staff meeting. Given the electrician that was present -- he is not an immature man -- I just wonder if he misspoke. They are both decent men, but they did not use good judgement apparently during this service call. One correction, by the way: The second man was an electrical helper and is billed out at $46 per hour. That is considerably less than the charge associated with the electrician. The helper should be billed out ONLY when he is actively working alongside the electrician. I will have plenty to discuss at the next staff meeting!

Wilcox was very accommodating in fitting me end on the eve of my HVAC install, as this job took my old AC offline. In order to meet my time frame, they pulled Steve (again, the owner) off of estimates to do the job. All in all, took about 2 hours, and was done in a professional manner. Given that drywall repair is on me, I greatly appreciated that he only cut one small hole in the wall and carefully chiseled a hole through my wall for the new 240 line, which eliminated the need for an masonry repair work. His price was also almost $300 less than another well reviewed vendor.

Wilcox was called in somewhat last minute as the company we had asked earlier to do the work was not able to when our kitchen was already bare. Wilcox competed the estimate and the installation within 2 weeks of our initial call, which minimized the amount of time without any kitchen to a very acceptable time. They work they did was very good and we were pleased with the installation.
Description of Work: Haynes put in a new 220V feed for the kitchen range/stove during our kitchen remodeling where the range/stove was moved to a slightly different location. They also added a few new 110V GFI outlets in the kitchen and moved several others to location needs for the applicances new locations (Dishwasher, disposal, microwave and Refrigerator). They also installed and moved the wall phone jack to a location where it could be accessed in the new kitchen design.

The electrician showed up and introduced himself. After looking at the location for installation, he was ready to start. I asked for an estimate to do the work and he gave me a hourly rate stating the job would take about an hour. Wilcox Electric rate was better than most other electrical companies. The electrician started the work of trying to snake a wire in the wall to the smoke detector location. I lath behind the walls so I did not want any unnecessary cuts. The electrician took the time to work the wire through the walls making only one cut that was covered by the smoke detector. I was very pleased by the effort to eliminate extra cuts in the wall and the thoroughness of the work.
Description of Work: Installed a hardwired smoke detector on the wall. The electrical connection was made to a existing outlet on the opposite side of the wall.

I contacted this company for a second opinion on services I was told I needed by another company. The guys from Wilcox Electric LLC went through all of the work and spent a lot of time on the panel and all the things I was told I needed and was told that I did not need those things. They did do one additional thing for me, they did some work on the outside securing my power meter that had came loose. Their pricing was very reasonable and they were very punctual.

The quality of the work was good and I have full confidence that my wiring is much safer now. Challenges were getting the estimates to match what I had requested so I could get an accurate price quote. Had two on-site meetings and several e-mails yet never got an adjusted estimate. This led to problems once the work was completed and they tried to charge me more than what had been quoted verbally. They were also very messy and did not take precautions to protect my home from dust and debris. Overall good experience though.

The experience generally went well; the guy was really helpful and pretty explained what was going on every step of the way; he was really good. They were pretty prompt; the technician got here earlier than he was expected and was done on time to get to his other appointment. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Wilcox Electric to fix a couple of motion sensors that I had out back that stopped working. They could not get the second one running but actually got it at least turned on; which was fine.
