Two friends recommended Wilcox and I'm glad I went with them. I don't think they're the cheapest, but they know what they're doing and I've been a homeowner long enough to know that is worth a lot. Jermaine was the electrician who did the work and I couldn't be more pleased. He was able to install two more circuits in my kitchen by just cutting a hole in the ceiling and fishing the wires back. I thought he was going to have to tear up the tile backsplash and/or cabinets. He was good at explaining things and making sure all of my questions were answered. I am so very happy he was able to come up with an undisruptive solution. I will definitely use Wilcox again.
Description of Work: Needed two new circuits. Also got new board.

I chose David Settimi of Wilcox Electric out of the ½ dozen recommendations I received from various neighbors in out 100-year-old building in Adams Morgan. In particular was one note that particularly praised David’s work as lead electrician on their heavy-up job: “He was great and it was a tricky job!” My husband and I were impressed with the thoroughness and respect for our requests when he wrote the estimates, and (as a retired project manager at a local printing plant) was pleased to see his attention to detail, starting the job with a tape measure and bubble level. As I texted my brother after David left: "Done on time as promised, exactly the way I wanted, & very little disruption to the cabinet where the circuit breaker panel is. I wish we could depend on people like this all the time."
Description of Work: Dining Area: Ran two (2) dedicated 20-amp circuits from the electrical panel in the kitchen cabinet to a nearby wall. Installed a 2-gang box and install two (2) customer supplied USB receptacles. Installed a new 2-gang decora cover plate. Panel: Installed One (1) new 20-amp circuit breaker for one (1) of the circuits. Reused one (1) of the existing circuit breakers for the other circuit. Checked new circuits for proper voltage and grounding. Labeled the new circuits. Kitchen: Secured a loose receptacle. Dinging Area: Secured a loose receptacle. Installed two new customer supplied duplex receptacle cover plates.

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit such a detailed review. It is great to hear the comments about David. He's been with us at Wilcox Electric for 15 years, and has learned the trade with Steve Wilcox and other electricians. David has such a strong aptitude for the electrical work along with the customer service skills that matter in this line of work. We are experienced working with the old wiring in WDC homes. Steve, my husband, has become the "old guard" (when did that happen??), and he works closely with the men in the field. We appreciate your business, and thank you again for the great review!! As a Property Manager and Facilities Manager, I have used Wilcox Electric multiple times over the years for the commercial and residential properties that I represent. I have always been very happy with the quality of their work. If you are a Property or Facilities Manager, Wilcox is an excellent partner that will leave you looking good! My experience is that they do high quality work, offer appropriate pricing, easy scheduling and are staffed by professionals in both the field and in the office. This review is because I recently had them do work at my own home and I am beyond happy. I've used them for small personal projects in the past but this time I brought them in to do larger work including a 200 amp heavy up and adding a dedicated circuit for a new stove. They knocked it out of the park! When our home was inspected for purchase 12 years ago, the inspector mentioned that our panel could be a concern. It took me this long to address it. A few months ago Dale performed panel maintenance and helped me understand so much about the power in my home that I decided to have Wilcox come back to do a 200 amp heavy up. Jermaine and Daniel did that work and did a fantastic job. I am so happy with the outcome. Lastly, Nick W came out and installed a dedicated circuit to install a new stove and did a wonderful job. Since I'm a curious customer who asks a lot of questions, he showed me all the components inside the panel and explained what they did. Now, for the first time since we bought the place, I feel absolutely confident in the safety of the power in my home. Based on my recent experiences, I'm planning to have them come back later this year to add some outlets to the exterior of the home and also run power out to my shed. Everyone I have dealt with from scheduling with the office to communicating about estimates and the onsite visits have been top notch. Their staff is professional, knowledgeable and have helped me understand the process at every step. You can rest easy if you choose Wilcox Electric for your project. They're great!

I received a call from Wilcox expressing their interest to bid on my full house electrical rough in job. They then had me pay $50 for the fee to provide an estimate and then scheduled a visit from one of the team. He came by the next week on a Tuesday. He then promised a detailed estimate by Friday of that week. It has been more than two weeks from contact, and in spite of many emails and text reminders, they have failed to provide the estimate ...or even to pick up the phone when I call or respond to emails. Is this company a fraud?

This is a situation where we over-promised by stating that we could turn around a $30,000 estimate in three days. There was email communication, although clearly we did not handle this sufficiently. We are very sorry to have upset this Member, especially since he did indicate that he wanted a quick turnaround. On Jan 16th, the day of this review, we were finalizing the estimate and did submit it to him by COB.

Great job, great people, came in under budget. Dimas Moran and Nicholas B. installed a 70 amp car charge port and 20 amp receptacle in our garage directly from the meter. A month earlier Wilcox had fixed some ancient wiring in our 1925 DC home, including an innovative solution to a pair of faulty two-way hallway lights with some original wiring. All were professional and courteous. Everyone at Wilcox did a great job. When I had a question about the scope of work in the estimate, Steve came out a second time to make sure I got what I wanted. The electricians, apprentices, and office staff, were all enjoyable to talk with and eager to ensure the job went right. Communication was clear and they consulted with me when there was a question about placement of the conduit and boxes. The results were better than expected. Price was over $600 below the estimate. I did not compare their prices with others, as they came recommended by a neighbor. I would use them again.

I needed a heavy up for a 4 -unit apartment building I have owned in downtown Washington, DC for over twenty years. The company I chose was Wilcox Electric. I am extremely happy with how professional this company treated me. I am senior citizen and each workman I met from Wilcox Electric not only knew their electric business, but each person was so polite and courteous to me. If I did not understand the heavy up process, they explained it to me. One thing which impressed me is that the owner, Steve Wilcox always answers his phone when I call or returns my calls in minutes. This kind of service no matter which trade you are working with is hard to find. I highly recommend Wilcox Electric. Colleen Corrigan Washington, DC.

Thank you so much for acknowledging David's knowledge and competency! He has been with Wilcox Electric for just about 15 years, and started with no serious electrical knowledge. He is mechanically talented/gifted, and has learned a lot from the older electricians in the company about electrical circuitry in Washington, DC houses. Indeed, we specialize in and have great affection for the older homes throughout the city. Tracy Wilcox

Everything went great - initial customer service rep was very helpful and made scheduling easy. I paid an up-front dispatch fee of $125 that was applied to final cost. Dimas and Nick called within the pre-arranged 2-hour window the day of the work, 30 minutes in advance of showing up. I explained what I needed and they finished the work in 45 minutes, including cleanup. They were both super-friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient.

Response from Wilcox Electric LLC
I am very sorry that this Member had an upsetting exchange with Wilcox Electric. I would ask him to check his Inbox and Spam folders for an emailed response from shay@wilcox-electric.com at 1:54pm, Thursday 7/27. This misunderstanding could have been avoided if she had asked for the property location before addressing the electrical issue. It is, however, incorrect to assert that we do not return calls or emails. I saw the email in which she explained that we do not service Bethesda, and she recommended another Montgomery County contractor. I don't want to split hairs, but I have to object to the discourteous comment too. The second employee later in the afternoon turned his chair around and consulted with me in the next office. He informed the Member of the same information that was contained in the email. He's a nice man, and I did not hear anything that sounded inappropriate. There is a problem with the way in which Angi.com now assigns service areas. We service Washington, DC mainly with our office in Hyattsville. In order to include the areas that are close to our office (Silver Spring inside the Beltway and Takoma Park), Angi.com puts us in a larger "district" that goes out to Olney! In years past, I could define our area by zip code. I wish that was still the case. With traffic as heavy as it is, we need to maintain a tight geographic coverage. If we did not limit our geographic coverage, we could end up with a one hour service call that requires two hours of travel time round trip in a vehicle that gets 12 miles per gallon. (That was the scenario with this customer.) I fear that we would not stay in business very long if we spent that much time on DC area roads and highways. As a final point, I would add that traffic is the most common answer to a question I always ask during employee evaluations: "What do you like least about working for Wilcox Electric" Answer: "DC traffic" So again, I am very sorry that we upset this Member. I will inform Angi.com about this.

Jermaine was superb. He was very knowledgeable, helpful and most personable. "Mr. Dale" as a representative of Wilcox Electric responded to my request to inspect work recently performed by another Angi contractor. Although the contractor that initially performed the work (not affiliated with Wilcox) was professional, I did not feel he had the "older home" electrical knowledge needed to safely and competently complete my project which was confirmed by a concern which caused me to follow-up with Wilcox Electric. "Mr. Dale was very thorough in his inspection and identified SEVERAL discrepancies which were not acceptable electrical practice, not to electrical code, and which most importantly which could pose a fire hazard at some point. "Mr. Dale" recommended a follow up appointment to correct the issues and he returned about a week later with "Mr. Joshua". They worked for several hours pulling new wiring, making the "new" appropriate connections and correctly installing replacement switches. They are the "best"! Wilcox will be my first from now on to get things done right

Abdel & Jacob were a terrific team. They efficiently and carefully ran additional power from my circuit breaker to my roofdeck. The job required them to cut into drywall, but they did so thoughtfully and with as little disruption as possible, and they cleaned up well after they were done. They were also both very pleasant to work with. I will hire Wilcox again and ask for them specifically.
