The experience with Wilcox Electric was excellent. Dale arrived punctually to work on several non-working light fixtures and wobbly ceiling fan. He was very polite and pleasant, worked diligently on all 5 non-working fixtures, and stabilized our ceiling fan. He worked efficiently and provided advice for future repairs needed. The Wilcox pricing was reasonable for the amount of time spent. I will be hiring Wilcox again.

This effort was a waste of my time and money. I will chalk it up to "stupid tuition"...Me being the dumb one who made an effort to educate myself in the process...so perhaps it was not a waste of time...just a painful one. Wilcox's Dale and his assistant were very nice, but seemed totally clueless with respect to the installation or operation of a programmable thermostat, which they had required ME to provide to them. They seemed to be stumped by the number of wires from the new thermostat (two), compared to the four wires in the wall (two from power source and two to the heaters). They were unwilling to program the thermostat. Perhaps it was because it was the end of the afternoon and Dale was going to celebrate his 50th birthday that evening. While I was able to program it, the thermostat was not controlling the heat, and but remained "on" until I completely disconnected it. In other words they did not verify that the thermostat was operating correctly, but rather connected some wires and attached it to the wall. Pay the $162 fee and goodbye. When I called back the next day to complain to the office, they told me Dale would call me. I ended up calling him and all he could say was, maybe the thermostat is bad, or the wiring from the heaters is bad. He suggested I install a simple thermostat to determine this. I did this and the simple thermostat works fine However it begs the questions: 1) was the programmable thermostat defective?; 2) why wasn't the thermostat's operation tested and verified by Wilcox after installation? ; AND 3) WHY DID I CONTRACT WITH SUCH A LACKADASICAL BUSINESS WHICH COULD CARE LESS IF THE CUSTOMER WAS SATISFIED OR NOT? June 17, 2013 - In response to Tracy Wilcox's comments, I object to her characterization that my review of her company's performance was "irresponsible". Her constant use of that word indicates to me that she "doth protest too much". I agree that her electrician, Dale, seemed to be a likeable and personable individual. And while Lisa chooses to share Dale's wife's health information with Angie's list, I repeated only what Dale told me directly about his planned evening birthday celebration; this after taking a phone call on the subject while on the job in my home. My assumption that this contributed to his hasty departure from an uncompleted job may have been incorrect, but certainly not an irresponsible conclusion. The fact remains that he and his assistant did not perform the work needed. During the following days it was I, not he, who had to track him down after I had called the office to complain and was assured that he would contact me. His response was befuddlement, but with no offer to come back and correct the problem. Rather he suggested that I just simplify by installing a non programmable thermostat. I did that myself without the help of Wilcox Electric. To their credit, and I can only assume after my review on Angie's List, Wilcox refunded the fee for the "service" call, though with no explanation. To Wilcox Electric: I agree that we can all have bad days/service calls. But when you are identified as having one, please to not assume that the customer is being irresponsible in so asserting. I have been a member of this community for 33 years, having raised a family here while serving my country. One thing I never do is to make up facts. Be assured that your offensive response to my review guarantees that I will not do business with you in the future, and that I will share my opinion of Wilcox Electric's performance with friends and neighbors when asked.

Wilcox Electric is a huge fan of Angie's List, mainly because this forum provides a level playing field for homeowners and service providers alike. I am given the opportunity to respond to reports submitted by members of Angie's List, and I don't know of another forum like this. Having a presence on Angie’s List since 2007, and with more than 300 reports submitted about Wilcox Electric. I have had one, other occasion in which I responded to an irresponsible report. This marks the second occasion. One has to read only a few of the reports submitted in the last month alone to realize that this report is an outlier. My biggest objection is that the report contains assumptions about the electrician and about Wilcox Electric that I think are irresponsible. I don't recognize Dale, the electrician that is maligned in this report, by reading the comments above. He is known throughout the company as a meticulous, experienced electrician. He has specialized in residential service work for about 30 years. He is also a responsible and humble man, basically a "good egg." IF Dale actually hurried out of the service call on the evening of his 50th birthday, it was to go home and take care of his ill wife. (I’m not making that up!) The member speculates that he was going to “celebrate.” It would be helpful if reports were limited to just the facts. The Member’s speculation is flat out wrong and irresponsible. Occasionally, we experience problems on our jobs. In the vast majority of situations, Wilcox Electric is able to straighten out problems that may arise. If nothing else, a refund of money is possible. I will be sending a refund of $162 to this member. If his characterization of developments related to the thermostat is accurate, we did not provide value. The Member also characterizes Wilcox Electric as "a lackadaisical business which could care less if the customer is satisfied or not." He made his judgment and generalized his experience to the company as a whole. The office forwarded his complaint the following day to Dale, who tried to contact the Member. He has not met any other electrician, and I do not know of any attempt by the Member to contact management at Wilcox Electric. So, I consider that comment to be irresponsible. I urge homeowners to try to work with a service provider when there are problems (within reason, of course). If Steve Wilcox or I learn about a problem or a mishap, we are all over it. Good contractors -- good professionals -- operate that way. And I can assure you that a one hour service call, such as this one, merits our attention. Basic electrical service and repair work carried this company through the tough, initial years of the recent economic recession. I haven’t addressed the subject of the electrical work. I will of course speak to the electrician about this service call. He clearly made a bad impression, and I regret that. Tracy Wilcox

Everything was fantastic. I can't say enough about Wilcox. Steve came out initially and looked things over and told us in no nonsense terms what we were looking at. His team, led by Nick, came out and were just fantastic. Our new tenants even said that everyone who came out was professional, nice, and just great. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. They made the whole renovation a 100 times smoother.
Description of Work: We did a full renovation on the basement. Added new circuits, moved the electrical panel and moved the dual meter system and attached it to the wall.

It is so nice to learn that we provided a good experience to this Member! Nick is one of our senior electricians and manages many of our larger, contract jobs. He understand the sequencing that is needed amongst all the contractors involved in the larger jobs. He also works well with the homeowner and other contractors, so the jobs can proceed smoothly -- not an easy task sometimes! Thank you for your comments!

I have used Wilcox Electric LLC several times. I initially used them probably 18 months or two years ago, and I have continued to use them since then. They are on time. Their prices are not the lowest, but quite reasonable based on the competitive bids that I have gotten for the work and the works have all been done perfectly, with perfect clean up. They have a very courteous and professional staff.

Description of Work: We had a great experience with Dale from Wilcox Electric. He called to let us know that he was on his way and asked if it would be ok if he arrived a little early. I was not yet at the location where the work was to be performed and when I got there Dale was waiting patiently in his van. His manner was very open and friendly. We had a lot of different issues with our electric connections, a couple of outlets had a burning smell and were scorched. There were other outlets that had not been correctly installed and some wires that were not in junction boxes. I asked Dale how long he could stay and he said as long as we needed him. He fixed all of the problem outlets, letting us know what the problems were as he went along. He replaced a number of outlets, put in a new junction box, and identified a mystery switch that we had no idea what it controlled. That was just the upstairs! Then Dale dealt with a bigger problem down stairs that required him to go up into the attic space over an addition. It was very dusty up there with lots of loose insulation, but Dale did not complain at all! We were very impressed with his knowledge and willingness to do what needed to be done. He solved a very frustrating situation for us by installing a new outlet where there was an existing outlet that was controlled by a switch that also controlled all the ceiling lights! One of the things we appreciated the most was Dale's discovery of a potentially dangerous situation that he found with the recessed lights that were installed in the addition. He told us that the lights were not fire rated for the way they were installed and that we needed to correct the situation. He gave us two options and left it to us to decide which one to pursue. He did not try to push for the expensive option which to me showed real integrity. All in all we were very pleased with our experience with Wilcox electric, the price was fair, and the work was professionally done to our full satisfaction. We are planning to use Wilcox again in another house and will be asking specifically for Dale - working with him was a pleasure!

Thank you for taking the time to post this review. It is greatly appreciated. Dale is the kind of electrician described above: kind, patient, meticulous, and honest. I am pleased to hear that Dale offered two options for an electrical repair without trying to steer a customer to the expensive option. He represents the company well. My husband Steve does the same thing on a regular basis when giving estimates for larger jobs. We understand that electrical work can be expensive, so we try to provide cost-effective solutions. Once again, thank you!

.Excellent. Sent e-mail through Angie, received a return call almost immediately. Spoke to a very nice and pleasant woman (Crystal) who was extremely professional and knew what I needed. As far as estimate I was able to get one over the phone from the owner(?), who was very nice and professional as well. Set up an appointment . Appointment date - both men showed up on time, completed the job professionally, no fuss, mess or drama- very polite, professional. would use the company again.

The electrician, Dale, and his assistant, Gerald, arrived promptly at 8:30am. They were both very polite and were very careful about moving my things off the counter before they began working and putting them back after they were finished. The work was done efficiently and I was very pleased with the work. I will definitely be calling Wilcox Electric again. I talked with Dale about some other electrical work I will probably have to have done at a later and he looked at my electric box and was very informative. Thank you Dale and Gerald. Grace Russell
Description of Work: One of my florescent ceiling lights in the kitchen was not working. Dale checked the lights to make sure it was not a connection problem and then determined the switch was bad. He installed a new light switch which fixed the problem. Also, one of my wall plugs was very loose and Gerald installed a new plug in the wall.

David and Tom A. arrived on time and were quick to figure out the problem. They wasted no time fixing our "speedwire" issue and even waited around for an extra few minutes to make sure the that the problem was corrected.
Description of Work: Four of our lights went out and all were connected to the same light switch. Wilcox was referred to us by our HOA and we are so happy that they were. It turned out to be a minor fix, but David and Tom A. from Wilcox were punctual, professional and so friendly. The light had actually started working again by the time they arrived, but they didn't hesitate to correct our "speedwire" issue anyway and make sure that the faulty connection was tight. I would absolutely recommend them to friends and family. Both men were so lovely to work with and I really appreciated their time, advice and help!

Outstanding! I had, what I now know is the privilege of having the owner come out personally to my home and discuss my needs. Steve Wilcox is a complete professional and his team did an amazing job! Bill and Dave were courteous and conscientious at all times. They were punctual on the day of service and completed on schedule. Real pros, on site as well as the Tina in the office. They completed the heavy up to my system seamlessly. They even did a couple of small repairs that were not included in the day's scheduled work, but completed anyway. Steve really knows the DC neighborhoods and the types of wiring that he is likely to be dealing with and made targeted recommendations on what needed to be done and how I as the homeowner should prioritize the work. With many companies you never see the owner, but Mr. Wilcox was visible, available and clearly a business owner who stands behind his work and his team. The Wilcox team was very easy to work with and I can certainly see why they are highly rated with stellar reviews. I am a happy customer.

I am so happy to read this review! How could I not be? The Member captured the basics of who Steve is and what he cares about. (Steve does most of the estimating for the company, by the way.) And, yes, he does know DC and its electrical wiring very well. Years down the road, he may not remember your name, but he'll remember what work was done in your house! It is so helpful to get the feedback from Angie's List members, even the sub-optimal comments. The feedback is instructive, and I work with it in the office. In fact, we post all Angie's List reports in a central spot, unless it's a critical review. That may be limited to a one-on-one discussion with the person in question. So please keep them coming! Thank you, Tracy Wilcox

These days it is hard to find a true electrician who will take the time to trouble shoot an electrical problem until he finds the underlying cause. Wilcox Electric is that rare best case company. Our 1947 colonial home in NW DC required a new light in the foyer and a new light on the landing at the top of the entry stairs. However, the old three-way switch was broken. It took some testing, but eventually the problem switch was located and the lights installed. Then it was on to fix an outdoor light with a broken wire, and then a new fan for the sun porch. Remarkably professional work. I only wish I had known of Wilcox Electric earlier!

Wilcox Electric is great. I have had them out twice and have them on the books for a third visit later this month. I would definitely recommend them.

AMAZING! Outstanding. I did not know that such workers still existed. Dale came here accompanied by a trainee Gerald. The trash compactor was so deeply built into the kitchen system that we all at first thought that it would be absolutely impossible to remove it. It indeed could not be moved, but Dale literally tore the heavy metal construction into pieces using strong pliers. It was not necessarily an electrician's job, but this was the only way to get to the wires behind. It took a lot of intelligent problem solving and truly astonishing determination, but Dale simply worked until the job was done. Bravo! The rest was two complicated diagnostic questions. Previously I got, not once, a "no, M-me, it is not possible here? for an answer. Dale's approach was - it is possible, but in the worst case we will have to do so and so. Again - bravo! I only hope that other electricians in the company are equally outstanding. The trainee did not look hungry to help. He was nice, and he did what he was told to do, but without any particular zeal. I hope he'll be more interested when he becomes more independent... So the price is marked "B" because although it ended up being OK by DC standards, I don't see why I paid for the two men while one was working. On the other hand, Dale could probably be counted as at least two men anyway :)

From the estimate, to the scheduling, to the actual electrical work, every person I spoke to or worked with at Wilcox Electric was incredibly pleasant and professional. They took into account what I was looking for in my kitchen lighting, figured out a solution, and delivered it perfectly. It's so rare these days for all of this to happen! What Wilcox Electric had to do was a little complicated, but they did it very well. They were timely, professional, their price was very good and what I had expected, and it was overall a very positive experience. They are very professional. They have been working in the area for many years. They are terrific. I wouldn't call anyone else, don't bother. I really liked that they sent one person who knew exactly what he was doing and he didn't disturb the household at all. He did what he needed to do and he finished it in like a day, which was great. You can expect an initial visit from Mr. Wilcox who will discuss very carefully what you want done and then he will either do certain things himself or he will assign one of his expert technicians to come in and work with you directly and what you want done. That is ideal. you get to meet the person who owns the business and they choose the personnel based on who will work best for the job. They come in and do the job. If there are difficulties Steve would make it right, but I don't expect you to have any issues with them. They will tell the truth and suggest ideas to make it work. We got lucky our box made it through the winter and they came in and took care of it. Now I don't worry about it. The price is what you would expect. Their professionalism is excellent. They are the ones I would call for electrical.

d, NWAn electrician showed up promptly (on a holiday!) and did the job in 2.5 hours. He did more than expected as when he attached the fixture to the front of my house, he found a neat way to run the external wiring up behind the gutter so it did not show. I was expecting to have to paint the wiring the same color as my house and I did not have to as he hid it. The fixture works great and he adjusted it for me several times to get the correct angle. the work was excellent--better than I anticipated.

Porch lights "blew" a few days before Christmas. Not bulbs, not breakers. We thought it was the wiring. Turned out the lights were just old and tired. Cost less than expected because of this. The first time I called I explained the problem and they said someone would be out that day around a certain time. When that time had come and gone, I called back and it sees they had completely forgotten about my service request. The second time I made an appointment in advance. Not wanting to waste another leave day without service I called to confirm the day before, and they again forgot about my service request. The electrician was knowledgeable and very helpful, willing to answer questions and give solutions to some of my problems I am looking to resolve. I think the cost was slightly higher than it should have been.

Gosh, I am disappointed to learn that the office continues to be the weak area in our operations. I do have a new employee starting next week, and I am hopeful that we'll be more consistently attentive and responsive. My sincere apologies to the Member that was inconvenienced!

Called on short notice. Willing to fit me into their schedule by sending the owner. Great customer service, easy to work with. Solved problem after some creative thinking and careful investigation. Only a single visit was necessary.
Description of Work: Fixed partial power outage (2 rooms).

The electricians, Nick and an assistant, were on time for the appointment, knowledgeable, professional, fast workers, and quite pleasant! They were both excellent!! Further, prior to Wilcox Electric performing the work, Mr. Wilcox took the extra step of contacting an inspector with the DCRA's appropriate office to discuss the possible need for a permit to undertake the work. I really appreciated his taking this extra step on my behalf! Wilcox Electric is an extremely professional company and I have nothing but praise for the company, its electricians, and office staff. I would definitely use this company again and I highly recommend them!!
Description of Work: * In the front of the house, replaced existing light fixture with a new fixture, supplied by Wilcox. * In the living room, checked the ceiling box and installed a new fixture, supplied by Wilcox Electric. * In bathroom, checked exhaust fan for power, and installed fan upgrade kit. Also checked the hallway switch that controlled the exhaust fan for proper functioning. * Traced out circuits and labeled the electrical panel.

We scheduled an appointment that was canceled on the same day of service. We were told that someone would be in touch to reschedule, but this never happened. I called to reschedule, but had to leave a message as it was outside of office hours. No one returned my call.

My apologies to the Member for our lack of responsiveness. Last September/October, when this occurred, was a low time for my office! We are fully staffed now with competent professionals, I am pleased to say. I will contact the Member personally as a follow-up. Tracy Wilcox

Overall, they were excellent, dependable and very professional, plus they cared. They quoted the best price of all the electrical contractors that bid on the job and were very conscientious going over and beyond what was expected inclusive of installing the oven which I thought I would have to help them carry to its location, but they did it themselves. They had to do a bit of problem solving with some of the new circuits because different Wilcox crews came due to the time lapse and extent of the job which had to accomodate other trades, so the rough-in took place approximately a month or more before the final trim could be done. The electrial work was relatively extensive and I wouldn't hesitate to use the again, all the individuals were pleasant to deal with as we all conversed as they worked.
Description of Work: The project was a complete kitchen renovation with other electrical work needed for other parts of the house in a total home renovation project. Wilcox installed new wiring for the entire kitchen and all new kitchen appliances, new circuits, lighting (outside and inside), undercabinet lights, coaxial cable, outlets, switches, etc., inclusive of re-labeling the heavy-up electrical panel so appliances on the new circuits were correctly labeled on the panel and either capping off or completely removing old wiring, fixtures and outlets

The electrician was on-time, fast, friendly and efficient. Not only did he do an excellent job installing the outlet, he also took down an old wall mounted phone I was no longer using, removed the plate and tied off the wires inside the wall - work that was not scheduled - and did not charge me for it, even though it took him a bit longer than his scheduled time. Will definitely use Wilcox for all future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Had 3-pronged electrical outlet installed inside a wall for purposes of adding video/sound wiring to wall mounted television.
