The experience setting up the appointment was perfect -- polite, responsive, efficient. Steve Wilcox, the owner, did the work. He arrived on time and was professional and friendly. While in the house, he also checked (without being asked) the circuit box and other connections, explained what had gone wrong with the outlet and answered questions I had about rewiring part of the house to add more outlets. (Since he only had to gain from the additional work, I was happily surprised when he raised the issue of whether it was really worth my investment.) At my request, he also supplied a written estimate for some additional work I was considering.

Erik from Wilcox Electric did an excellent, efficient, and professional job. I needed to convert several outlets from 2-prong non-grounded to 3-prong grounded outlets. He quickly did the job and corrected poor workmanship on other outlets. He also took the time to troubleshoot a light fixture and explain possible solutions to the problem. All around excellent dependable and honest work from Erik. I'll use Wilcox Electrical again.

Erik Schmidt, the electrician from Wilcox Electric was wonderful. I will never use anyone else again from Wilcox. He analyzed the problem with connections outside and fixed the cable and two electric outlets. I had been told there were real problems and it would take considerable time to fix as there were damaged wires due to rodent issues. (Why would an animal chew electrical wires and get electrocuted?) He looked and said there were no rodent issues. Another electrician told me my low light/fan levels on a ceiling fan/light meant it needed to be replaced. He found that the dimmer switch was malfunctioning and he fixed it in a nanosecond. I took the new fixture back and saved over $200.

Mr. Wilcox came out himself to survey the job. It was a difficult job as I was asking them to put holes in my aluminum patio covering to hang the fan. He was very thorough and included me in the conversation about how to complete the job. He seemed very experienced and knowledgeable in his field. I felt very comfortable that he would take great care in completing the job to the best of his ability. Before he left he told me that I would hear from his staff the following day. Two days later I called and asked why I hadn't received a call. I was told that they hadn't received Mr. Wilcox' notes. The following day we set a date for July 30. In the middle of the month I received a call from one of the staff and she said they had an opening in their schedule for the following day. I took the opportunity. That day I went into work early and didn't pack lunch because my appointment was late morning. At about 8-9 am on install day I received a call from the staff and they said that they didn't realize that Mr. Wilcox specifically asked to be present at the install. Therefore they couldn't complete the job as scheduled because Mr. Wilcox was unavailable for a few weeks. They were apologetic about the oversight. We set the date back to July 30. When July 30 finally arrived all went perfect. Mr. Wilcox and his electricians arrived on time and worked hard for about 4 hours. I am really happy with the end result.

I was able to schedule an appointment for an imminent problem immediately. The next day it became apparent the problem was not resolved. The owner of the company came out that afternoon to trouble shoot and resolved. He did a thorough job assessing all electrical likelihoods. The service of the staff and owners was beyond 'customer oriented' and I would highly recommend this company.

Work began on June 9th and is still not done as of July 2nd. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. From one person to the next, they don't understand what work has been done and what hasn't, as we have gotten calls from people saying, "Oh the grounding rods haven't been put in yet? The inspection hasn't been done yet?" We have been waiting weeks for them to put in grounding rods and then the County needs to inspect (which Wilcox is coordinating). They were maybe going to come last Friday and do both, but neither happened (even though my husband took off work to be there). We still have no date from them on when the work will be complete. They had Miss Utility come spray the groud (for grounding rods), and that was done a couple of weeks ago, but it has been so long that the grass has grown and been cut several times and is barely visible. Least of my complaints, but worth mentioning, is that they left a complete mess where the inside work was done, and we had to clean it up ourselves. And through all of this, they continue to call and ask for payment when the work hasn't been complete and we have no idea when it will be done. I would never recommend Wilcox to anyone.

Response from Wilcox Electric LLC
I truly regret it whenever we at Wilcox Electric cause a customer any frustration or grievance. That is the last thing that we want to do, and yet we have clearly failed with this customer. I am grateful, however, that I have an opportunity to respond to this report, since I also believe that it mischaracterizes the situation and the other side of the story may help to convey a more complete picture. We have been hired to do an electrical heavy-up (replace the electrical panel, the service cable, the exterior meter and the grounding). What remains to be done is indeed installation of the ground rod and the inspection. That represents about one hour of work. It’s important to complete these tasks, and we usually do complete all of this work more quickly. An unusually heavy schedule (caused in part by turnover in field personnel) led to a 3 week delay in getting this last piece of work scheduled. A snafu prompted us to cancel the work. We informed the Member’s spouse by phone at 9:00 am, and he had mentioned that it was not really an inconvenience to work from home that day. We needed to reschedule that work immediately and that is where we failed! On July 2nd, three business days after the cancellation, I prompted my staff about this. I am responsible for the business’ cash flow so I want to see prompt and efficient close out of our jobs. It serves our customers well, and it helps me to pay the bills. In this July 2nd report, the Member cited several problems, and I am sure that we could have done better. I can comment with certainty about only one complaint that is mentioned above, and it relates to the point of asking for payment. The electrician probably asked for payment after the day’s work on June 9th to replace the electrical service. That is customary. We usually are paid in full or all but about $300 pending approval of the electrical inspection. They told us that their landlady would be paying for the work. OK. I only had a first name and a phone number for the landlady, so on July 2nd I emailed the Member’s husband (our main contact throughout) asking for her surname, email address and/or mailing address. He responded to my request in such a cordial way, I had no idea that there was any problem. I did not mention in that email that my staff would be contacting him soon to reschedule. That was a mistake, since they had not heard from anyone else since the inspection cancellation. And that evening, the Member submitted her report on Angie’s List. But to say that “through all of this, they continue to call and ask for payment” is incorrect and unfair. I requested contact information for the landlady, but I have yet to submit an invoice for this work. I have waited several days before responding here so that I might gain some perspective, but I continue to be surprised by the degree of frustration expressed in this report. Throughout the entire process, we interacted mainly with the Member’s spouse and with the landlady, both of whom have been very easy-going. We opened the door on this, no doubt about it, but I think this report generally overstates the situation. I don’t mean to negate the Member’s frustration, however. The scheduling for the original work and the subsequent inspection would have tested the patience of many people. We scheduled, then postponed the original work by three weeks. Given that timeframe, I am sorry that we did not a sense of urgency on completing the inspection. In 10 years, I have not seen our schedule this heavily booked. It has taken awhile to get the field personnel back up, but we are now only booked for 7 – 10 days, depending on what kind of work is needed. As a final point, I am happy to report that the final work has since been scheduled. Tracy Wilcox

During the inspection of our new home, we discovered that the main electrical line running into the house needed a heavy-up. We called around for several quotes, and we were most impressed with Wilcox. Steve came out himself for the estimate, and not only did he really seem to know his stuff, but he also quoted us a great price. We went with Wilcox and are happy we did. He and another technician arrived on time for the job, and they were thorough and did great work. We had one minor issue after the work was done (our garage lights were not working), but Wilcox sent an electrician out to address the problem (without charge) and, once he arrived, it was solved in no time. Overall, we did have some slight difficulty with scheduling issues -- it took a few weeks to get someone out to the house for the work. But the fact that they are so busy is probably a testament to the quality of work they are doing. On balance, we are very happy with the work and plan to call Wilcox again for a few other jobs.

A bit of a wait to schedule the work - guess it's a busy time of year, but they did great once they came. Steve Wilcox himself came out for a preliminary check after hours, at night, when we smelled a funny burning smell and were worried about a fire threat and had to go out of town the next day. So it was great overall.

We contacted Wilcox to examine our circuit breakers, and they promptly sent someone out within the next few days. The tech said that he would write up a proposal and be back to us within a week. Five weeks passed, and I finally called (I should have called earlier). Somehow the proposal never got sent to me. These things happen. But I sort of expected that, as a consequence, they would bump me up the queue. Instead, I was originally told I would have to wait another 4-5 weeks to get a service call. We finally found a date two weeks out. So, what is relatively minor work is taking a lot of effort and time. Wouldnt use them again. Too much trouble.

Response from Wilcox Electric LLC
Oh, we have to take this one on the chin. The Member is reasonable and correct in his assessment, and we sincerely apologize for the delays in dealing with a relatively straightforward piece of work. The first electrician, Abdel, was very new to Wilcox Electric at the time of the first visit. (He is a "rock star" electrician and employee, according to one of the two ladies working with me in my office, we are pleased to say!) He was not yet familiar with how we do business, so he sought guidance from the senior electrician on staff. That caused the unacceptable delay -- no good reason for that. The Member is also correct in that we should have responded to the delay by giving him prompt service. I have discussed this with those that handle the scheduling so that we might avoid this situation in the future. We do regret the inconvenience to our customer. Sincerely, Tracy Wilcox

Joe and Trey were great. They arrived about 2pm and stayed until well after 7:00 on a Friday evening so that they got everything done. The challenges they encountered with the bathroom fan and one of the ceiling fans were no match for them. They had great suggestions on our light fixtures that are burning through CFLs every year or so. And they even asked for a broom and dustpan so they could clean up after themselves. We now have three new ceiling fans, two of which are much brighter than the previous fans and one of which replaced a regular light on the front porch (all the better to sit under a breeze when it's 90 degrees out with 75% humidity and i'm taking a break from cutting the grass!). The bathroom that had had a broken fan for a few months now has the ability to circulate air again. And we have a plan for the two aforementioned problematic light fixtures for the next time that we have Wilcox Electric out.
Description of Work: Wilcox Electric replaced two ceiling fans with new ceiling fans, replaced the front porch light with a ceiling fan, replaced a broken bathroom fan, and consulted on two light fixtures that are repeatedly burning out CFLs.
