Description of Work: We found Wilcox Electric on Angie's List and called for service on a ceiling fan that had stopped working. We were worried the motor might have burned out, but wanted professional advice before shelling out for a replacement. An appointment was made for Tom A., an electrical technician with Wilcox, to examine our fan and its electrical service on Wednesday, October 31st, at 8:30AM. As events subsequently unfolded, this was the first day that the Washington area went back to work following Hurricane Sandy, and traffic was very heavy and congested and the Beltway was jammed by accidents. Nonetheless, Tom managed to arrive by 9:00AM. After setting up, he first looked at the tandem light switch which also controls the fan, rather than the fan itself, and immediately found the problem...a loose connection that was shorting out power to the fan. When we asked Tom why he looked for connection problems first before examining the fan, he told us that the kind of fan we have rarely fails....and if it had, then of course the cost of replacing the fan would have greatly exceeded the cost of Wilcox Electric's service for this problem. Needless-to-say, my wife and I are extremely grateful for the expertise, professionalism and promptness demonstrated by its technician, and highly recommend this company to other subscribers to Angie's List.

Description of Work: They did a few small jobs for me around the house. They did all the basics well: answered the phone; kept the appointment; came on time; helpful and professional; etc. Not rocket science, but these days its hard to find a firm that do the basics well. I would use them again.

Description of Work: Dale from Wilcox came to my home today to repair a damaged electrical socket. He was punctual, professional, very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend Wilcox Electric and Dale!!!

The electrician responded promptly to my call, spent about an hour looking over the electrical setup at my business, ultimately advising me that our problems with electrical fluctuations were probably due to problems with our Pepco box. He advised me to get Pepco to come out (for free) to assess the set-up. The amazing thing was that he didn't charge us a thing for the visit! That's a first in my experience. So, I can't speak to their work, but I am tremendously impressed with their business practices!

Description of Work: I had them complete a heavy up for my old row house. The price was exactly as they quoted and the worked was completed in one day including the inspection. They called me to let me know they would be a little late and were a pleasure to work with! I will be using them again.

Description of Work: I called first thing in the a.m. and the receptionist put me on the phone with an electrician, to whom I described the problem we were having. A circuit kept tripping in the kitchen shutting off lights and appliances. Since I had to take a day off work, they promised to send someone by from noon to 4:30. At about 1:15 I received a call from the electrician who was on his way. In less than 15 minutes he was at my door, ready to work. He listened to my tale of woe of having already spent $300 with one company (John C. Flood) which did not fix the problem, and an estimate of more than $5,000 to replace the breaker box and do a heavy up to fix the problem. That 'estimate' also cost $69 (Mr. Sparky--don't use them!) Ray went through each possible outlet to trouble shoot for where the short was, and finally found it. It was a dead short in one receptacle that was powering the refrigerator, which we chose not to replace since we could use another outlet. Bottom line is this is a professional company with a high standard of service. I was charged for the labor, and even received a discount for signing up on Angie's list! I would definitely recommend Wilcox Electric for any electrical job. Don't be fooled by these scammers who charge you money and don't do the work! Or worse, give you an estimate for a huge unnecessary job.

Description of Work: I had them do upgrades to all of the outlets in our house. They had made an error with scheduling and didn't have me on the books. I offered to reschedule but instead Steve came the same day and took care of the work. They came back within the week to finish up. A bonus was that while Steve was here, we saw a mouse in the house and he was able to catch and release it outside.

Description of Work: They brought in a new electrical line to my garage. They also added alot of outlets as well as several lights, and a fan. They also replaced some outdoor spotlights.
