Description of Work: They supply the fuel for my home furnace. Their office operations are chaotic; they appear to be non-communicative intra-office and with customers. They are internally disorganized. Their young technician who comes out periodically is polite and earnest. I am beginning to think that the annual contracts with them for my various appliances are not worth the money since Griffith continues to fail in sending timely service (they even forgot to fuel my oil tank one winter. leaving me with no heat or hot water for an extended time until they could get themselves coordinated internally). I recommend steering clear and am looking for an alternative provider now, because in talking to the managers of the various departments with which I have had problems, the managers only give excuses and never actually fix their intra-office/staff communication problems.

Description of Work: Their service agreement does not match the delivery amount charges they render, or additional fees that they do not disclose that I am still trying to determine and will likely need to hire a lawyer. Apparently there is interest on "unpaid" balances. They have not disclosed what the interest percentage is. I have paid monthly regularly in conformance with my agreement with the salesman. Nevertheless they showed a balance on my account from the first bill, saying I used more oil than they expected I would. This was during a warm spell when we had hardly used the heater. The balance grew and grew from there, even though I paid the agreed-upon monthly amount. A furnace technician from our home warranty company warned me this company and some others use many tricks to earn extra money and to be vigilant. Even adding up the delivered oil amounts and the amount they charged for this delivered oil is well-below the amount they are demanding.

Our A/C was from 1988 and we decided to get a new one because of high energy costs and the fact that it had to run literally all day during the summer to keep the home cool. I received several quotes from the area and the reason that I gave responsiveness the grade of and quot;cand quot; is because it took several attempts to finally get a quote for a new A/C. However, I am a current Griffith customer for oil delivery and servicing, so I waited to give them the opportunity to provide a quote. Eric, a sales rep, came out and was very friendly and knowledgable. He offered me interest free financing for one year if I got an A/C and provided a quote quickly with plenty of information about the equipment he was quoting me on. Once we received the quote I asked about whether or not we would save on labor to go ahead and have a new furnace put in now since it would be due in a few years. He told me we'd save about $900 on labor and would see much better efficiency. In the end we went with a hybrid heatpump/oil furnace, both by carrier. Eric quickly replied to emails, answered all of my questions fully, and worked with me each step of the process. Eric agreed to make the loan interest free for two years since the amount was much more and I was able to get two years of the and quot;goldand quot; service plan included for both the furnace and air conditioner, a pretty good deal! I was able to figure the savings from the service plans and interest free financing to be well over $1500, maybe more if a loan rate was higher. Once the loan paperwork was signed a manager called to schedule the appointment for installation. It was pretty quick to get a date and an easy process. Now, on to the best part of this whole process. The installation crew was amazing. The lead installer (Robbie I believe) was friendly, extremely knowledgable, and very patient with my questions. After the furnace was installed in my crawl space he took me down and showed me the components, what they did, things to look for, ect. He explained everything and showed some extra work they had to do to get the furnace to fit with the existing duct work. He was able to explain everything so that I understand and seemed to love his job! The installation included everything from a new furnace and heat pump to a new water condensation pump, new tubing, a new switch, and even a new wall outlet... they didn't cut any corners. The hole that the piping comes out of was closed with putty and everything looks great and professionally done. One of the installers even brought me into my house and showed me how to use my new touch screen thermostat. He didn't rush me through learning it and answered all of my questions. The installation took two days and when they couldn't get the furnace fully installed the first day they brought us really nice space heaters to use for that night since the temperature was in the 40's. I do have to say that I am very glad that I waited for the quote from Griffith. The service was excellent and professional. The employees were all extremely friendly and knowledgable. It seemed that any of the installers could have been the lead installer based on their knowledge during discussions. I highly encourage anyone getting any service with heating or air conditioning to give them a shot at a quote.
Description of Work: We had our old air conditioner and furnace replaced with a new hybrid system that includes a heat pump and oil furnace. The thermostat was replaced. The coil, piping, refrigerant, and all systems associated with it were replaced. It's a completely new heating and cooling system, except for most of the duct work. Griffith removed all of the old equipment for disposal. Our new system is a 13 SEER heat pump and 86% efficient oil furnace, both Carrier. It's a big leap from my 8 SEER A/C! Please read my story below to get a good idea of this company's service.

As usual, the rep arrived on-time and was friendly and professional. He had to replace a part for my heater that was ordered a while back, so he did this first. While in my crawl space I asked for him to check a liquid on the floor to make sure it wasn't from the heating oil, which he did and found no issues and even did me the favor of finding where the leak was from(this leak turned out to be plumbing, but that's another report). Once this was completed he did the A/C tuneup and replaced necessary parts, which is what this report is for. The great thing about Griffith is that usually you have the same faces out to do the service calls/to add oil. I've had two and they know me and my family well. It's always a pleasure, just like it was in this instance. The bill for the service will be billed to my account and it is a very simple process. I can log on to their website, look at the work performed, and make applicable payments (as I will with this service). I highly recommend this company to anyone. While I'm not familiar with the other Griffith Energy offices, the one in Cheverly is great. The people that answer the phones are friendly and they'll take care of you. The reason that I gave a B for responsiveness was because the part mentioned above was supposed to come in a lot sooner. They didn't let me know of the delay, but it didn't matter because we're in the summer months and I'm sure it would have been different if it were winter. This is really nothing because overall they are an A+. Once I had a small amount of oil leaking from my tank and they had someone out within an hour and a half (I live an hour and a half away). Trust me, use this company and find a great company to do business with for life. They even offer a military discount on oil!
Description of Work: I use Griffith Energy for both my heating and A/C needs. I have a service contract for both systems as well as the even monthly payment plan for oil. This particular occasion was to sign up for an A/C contract and have a tune-up performed.

They are reliable, efficient and provide excellent service 24 hours a day, which is nice. I think we have a service contract with them, but I don’t remember exactly. They will do whatever it takes to get the furnace working. They are very good and always fix things and check everything out just to make sure it is doing okay. The price is competitive; however, because it is oil, it is expensive.

Unbelievably poorly. Immediately after the initial review of heating system, I noticed my air conditioning had stopped. Not a good thing in mid-August. I called Griffith repeatedly that weekend, could not reach them, and then hired another firm that actually answered their phone. The other firm immediately came out, inspected the system, and showed me where a wire (that is soddered into place) was knocked loose, which was the cause of the air conditioning not functioning. I asked if there was anyway that could happen with the Griffith technician not noticing and the answer was "no way". I asked if it could come loose on its own, and the answer was "impossible". He stated that it would have been completely impossible to miss damaging the wire. When I reached Griffith they tried very hard to say that they had not done the damage, though they eventually refunded a small portion of the cost of repairing their damage. Fool that I am I actually believe in second chances. A Griffith technician then came out early last week to install a filter suggested by the first technician. He seemed to do a good job and left. A few days later while having an environmental audit of my home conducted, the Environmental technician walked into my basement and immediately said that "it is like a sauna in here". He immediately found the source, which was that the humidifier on my heater had been knocked completely off and was dangling by a single wire (actually a small pipe that if it had broken would have flooded my basement eventually). The result of this was that hot air was pouring into my basement instead of my house. Since I rarely go into my basement I hadn't noticed the heat, but the only people to go near the heater were the technicians from Griffith. I called Griffith and after a few days they sent someone out. This technician immediately started saying there is no way that someone from his firm could have broken it, "maybe the environmental technician broke it" (from 40 feet away?), maybe it has always been broken (wouldn't I have noticed the heat last winter, etc.), though he was adamant that the technicians from his firm could not have possibly broken it because they were working on an area two or three feet away. I reminded him that the air conditioning wire was broken by a Griffith technician who was not working in the immediate area of the wire, and that technician had ignored the damage, not mentioning it to me, or getting a qualified person from his firm out to fix it immediately. He didn't seem to accept the possiblity of an accident while working in close quarters. The new technician went to work on the humidifier, though he kept saying no one could have broken it from his firm, which got to be annoying. He then said, "you need a new valve I'll be back Thursday" and "I don't know if my boss is going to charge you for the labor to repair the humidifier", which his firm broke due to their negligence, and then left. Well Thursday is kind of a long day, though I guess I was expected to sit home all day and wait for him. The lack of respect for peoples time is amazing. Today is Thursday, and surprise the technician from Griffith returned. No call, just rang the bell. He had the little valve and went to work installing it. I got to hear the same speech about there being no way someone could have broken it, (I think he should have recorded it and just played it over and over to save his vocal cords), and that he didn't know if his boss was going to charge me for the parts and labor. I said it would be a great pleasure if they charged me, not adding that I would share on Angie's List what is at a minimum shear incompetence and at its worst an inappropriate way to run up bills. He then told me I needed a new filter pad as well, and I would definitely need to pay for that. I don't know why I didn't need the pad the other day, but i said "install it if I need it, but you will need to leave the old parts, both valve and filter pad". He looked at me as if he had been caught, but said OK and went to work. To end my story, he called his boss, told me I would have to pay for both parts (though they were giving me a break on them), and his boss was still trying to decide if I would have to pay for the labor and the service charge. He then got in the truck and drove away with the parts. What I can't understand is, why doesn't his boss call me? They were made aware of the problem when I called to complain. His boss is interviewing employees to see if they could have possible damaged the humidifier, but no one wants my input. I guess business don't understand why long time customers change to their competitors. I frankly find their entire response amazing.
Description of Work: Griffith came out to perform their annual review of my heating system in the late summer. This is a standard service as part of a contract, that they have done for numerous years. They inspect the heating system to insure that it will function properly At a later date a technician installed a filter recommended by the initial technician.

They delivered the oil dependably. They completely failed to meet the "service" terms of their name and their contract by not responding for 6 days during a severe heat wave when the A/C broke down. Subsequent repair, by another company, revealed that Griffith had incorrectly wired a part of the A/C during routine maintenance, which cause the whole system to crash. As compensation, I was promised $200 in heating oil coupons. Even that was bogus, as they were ten $20 coupons, of which only one could be used per fill-up. (It would take 5-10 years to use them all.) After I cancelled the maintencence contract, they harrassed me for 6 months with bills and finance charges.

They are quick to get someone out here. It gets pretty cold in winter and they were quick enough to get someone who was responsive to come out. He found the problem and fixed it. It was not alright the first time so they came back and fixed it right and they did not charge anything for it. That was a good experience.

When we contracted Griffith Energy Services, the company provided us with a book of $25 coupons to use towards each purchase payment. There was no stipulation by the company on the amount of oil we must purchase to redeem the coupons. In this recent purchase, the company would not accept the coupon, saying we had received too many coupons initially and that we were not purchasing a large enough quantity of oil. We have been in touch with them several times to honor the coupon they presented us but they continue to send a bill for the $25 plus finance charges.
Description of Work: Heating oil delivered to our residence for the heating of an outbuilding. The bill total was $107.31, and we paid them $82.31 and included a $25 credit coupon provided to us by Griffith Energy Services.

They would not give us information, they would charge us for maintenance, we would receive bills etc, for work that wasn't done. We started with a contract with them for cleaning and maintenance. They said they were going to give us a new one, we thought it would be under warranty, but we couldn't find any information because it was from the previous owners. They ignored us and haven't been very helpful. They didn't have any record from the previous owners. We decided not to extend our contract with them for maintenance. We called and told them we didn't want to continue with them, but they continue to send us letters, bills, etc. They do deliver oil on time, but beyond that, the experience wasn't pleasant.
