They delivered oil that contained water. This had the furnace stop. That is not the concern. The concern is that this has been going on for over 2 weeks and the problem is not resolved, they don’t keep their commitments to call back or show up at the time they say, including managers, and they are great with excuses. What happened happened AND they promising and not delivering on their promises.

Major thumbs down. Having been Griffith customers for 20+ years are going to have to rethink this. Two and a half days without oil. 19 degrees outside and 44 degrees in the house. Many calls and promises of oil technician will be there to do restart and oil is on its way for x3 days and both just arrived. Thank goodness no one elderly here to get hypothermic. Still awaiting return call from a manager. This in spite of our ‘Uber expensive’ service plan. No sense that anyone cared. Sure the ground level employees who do the work are underpaid and doesn’t look like drivers provided any route guidance. Management and owners surely need to do major improvements all around if want to stay in business. They are making enough $ selling us the oil to put something back into employee morale - including a pay raise, organization and reliability.

The gentlemen who would come out did not wear a uniform that represented Griffith, so I didn't know if he was a contractor or what. He did just enough to keep it running. I did not setup for recurring service. It's one thing to check the meter, but just to come out and see the tag hanging on the door. I did not request the oil. Just to watch the cost keep piling up, I could never get out the $1000-$1400 range. Then they tell me that I'm no longer on the payment plan for $175 a month. I asked them what am I missing, and why did that have to change. I actually had spoken with a manager, she said that she will file a request not to deliver anymore oil and to let me make the payments to pay it all off. I guess the customer service and manager did not communicate, because I kept getting letters say that I owe money and to pay it off now before they report it to the credit bureau or to a collection agency. I had an agreement and called them back with the manager. I gave them a time frame of two months. and paid it off. It was not necessary the way they handled it. I could see if I was not making any payments to them monthly. I am a paying customer and honored my contract.
Description of Work: They came out to service the furnace. A gentlemen said a line was clogged. It took him less than 5 minutes. That was it.

I have had annual service contracts with Griffith for many years and they continue to be non-responsive to even service contract customers. It took days of repeated calls to them to secure a technician for an annual tune up on my A/C units. Previously, they forgot to fill the fuel oil tank and I had no heat for some days during the winter. This same pattern of non-responsiveness and sloppiness has prevailed over the last few years, notwithstanding repeated conversations with service managers about these problems. Griffith personnel are disorganized, non-responsive, and the company warrants no praise. It is past time to give a worthy competitor my business.

The wires had been chewed through by the mice. He didn't realize the transformer was burnt out. I needed a 4 X 4 junction box and he didn't have one on his truck. I don't know if he didn't notice it or didn't check it and he couldn't get the a/c unit going and you know he should have went back through the electrical wiring from the source.

I have been a Griffith customer (for heating oil delivery) since I moved to Montgomery County in 1998. Griffith had been dependable until two years ago. In the last two years, I have had to keep an eye on my storage oil tank level as I could not depend on Griffith to deliver oil in a timely manner. I had to work proactively to avoid running out of oil. On Wednesday Dec 30 I checked my tank and saw that it was empty. I called Griffith at 1400 on Dec 30. I requested a 10 gallon emergency fill but was denied that emergency service because my heating furnace burner had not gone out. I spoke with an office staff member and she arranged for me to have a full oil delivery on 31 December. I told her I would conserve oil the best I could to keep my furnace burner from shutting off. I returned to my house at 0200 (AM) Jan 1 and found out that there had been NO oil delivery on the 31st. I spoke with the Griffith emergency call center for emergency oil delivery at 0200, 0330 and did not get any response. Then at 0630 my burner shut down. I really tried to avoid a shut down but because of Griffith?s unreliability and undependability, I lost the burner battle. I called emergency call center at 0630 again and told them that now with the help of Griffith?s undependability, I have a burner shut down and now may qualify for emergency oil delivery. I have a 27 year old African Grey parrot that I am very worried about. Yeah I am cold ? but I am more worried about the well-being of my parrot. I cannot live with Griffith any more. I have found another oil supplier and will switch to another company. Griffith is also undependable administratively. I have been on autopay (direct bank debit for billing) for several years. On my most recent bill I was penalized for a late payment. How could I be late when I was on autopay? It turns out that the Griffith billing department was late on making the debit request from my bank so I was penalized with a late payment fee. I got that refunded and I requested an apology from Griffith in writing (as I never - that is NEVER - pay my bills late). This again reflects a problem with Griffith?s reliability. I was going to hang on with Griffith as I have an active annual furnace service policy and they sent me a bunch of $20 coupons for their lapse in debiting my bank in a timely fashion, but with the lack of response for my request for oil delivery starting on 30 Dec, that resulted in my burner shut down - I realize that this is a safety issue. I am willing to toss the coupons and walk away from the expensive annual service agreement in order to transfer to another company for dependable oil delivery. Griffith, I do not know what has happened to you that you have become so undependable. But I am done with you. Will be working on transferring to another company after I get some oil delivered. (I hope I can get some oil delivered. Now 0740 - still no oil.)
Description of Work: Called four times through the night trying to get oil. Did not sleep. Finally my burner shut off. Now - out of oil and out of heat. Griffith is SO UNDEPENDABLE, that despite my attempts to try to get oil since 1400 on 30 December and despite my begging for oil over night in trying to avoid a furnace burner shut down, I now have a burner shut down.

I'm so pleased. Excellent customer service from start to finish, quality work and reasonable pricing. To preface, I'd initially selected Tri-State and their service was horrible so I called around to a few more companies. Surprisingly, a top-rated HVAC company here on Angie's List told me that Griffith would offer the best price on a replacement oil furnace and suggested that I give them a call. Griffith sent Donald out to do the inspection and he was friendly, professional and prompt. His diagnosis/write-up was crystal clear which helped my insurance/warranty company move forward with processing the claim. Errol did the estimate and within two hours after leaving my house, he emailed me the quote with the complete cost-breakdown which was very reasonable. GRIFFITH IS AMAZING: I had to fight for weeks with the insurance/warranty company to get them to pay for the oil furnace replacement. Justin and Errol were a HUGE help with pushing things forward as they always responded to questions and requests for additional information quickly. They were going to get paid regardless so this was very appreciated. Despite my frustration throughout the process, they both remained calm and professional which speaks volumes. Scott and Mike replaced the furnace and did an awesome job! Within three hours, everything was done, including cleanup. I had several questions along the way which they were happy to answer. I couldn't be happier with my experience.

Description of Work: At 8AM griffith was notified that we had run out of oil. The customer service person said that a technician would be here as soon as possible with 10 gallons, and a delivery woul be arranged. By 12 noon, no one arrived. When recontacted, a new customer srvice agent said our tank was "1/2 full" according to their ecords. I explained that they do this every year, and I was sure it was empty.. She then said she would send a service person. At 3:45PM, he arrived. After checking everything, he said we were out of oil. He did not bring the 10 gallons. At 6:30PM, when contacted, the Griffith Emergency answered, and knew nothing about an oil delivery. Any new customer should pick ANYONE EXCEPT GRIFFITH for their oil heating and service.

They are fine. We are almost switched away from them because when we first started; we bought our home and that is the company they were using. So we called them up and we decided to continue using them. We got our own account and they gave us this rate. They do the typical rate changes but they don't tell you. I don't remember getting anything but then all of a sudden, the oil prices had gone down last year and we were still paying like $475 a gallon. They were just killing us. I called them and I am like, 'I am out.' We are going to go to another company. We will continue with them for right now. We are keeping a close eye on them. Basically one of the other things that they had done in the past was, not only were we paying way over the amount and then it was also a lot to pay in one lump sum. So we would get a bill that was like $800 and 'You have to pay right'. We were like, 'We can't do that.'

The service person, Jerome, who came out on 1/3/15 was great. Punctual, polite, and very helpful. I feel the same about the prior technicians who have serviced my units. Unfortunately, the furnace problem Jerome addressed persists -- a loud buzzing sound and the heater starting erratically and only staying on for short bursts, thus not heating the house. This morning, 2/19/15, I have no heat at all. The service staff is very frustrating to deal with. With no heat and temps below freezing I called the 24-hour service line at 5:30 a.m. I was told that my problem is not eligible for emergency service and someone will call me after 7am when the office opens. Apparently only fires and oil leaks are considered eligible for the 24-hour service. The customer service rep also could not confirm that I will get service today. I have been a customer for nine years and Griffith Energy Services installed a new furnace and AC unit for approximately $6,000 in 2006. Each year since 2008 I have had to have the AC unit repaired - not just serviced, but break downs fixed. The cost for the annual service contracts for each unit ranges from $200 to nearly $400. Despite paying approximately $450 a year for service contracts, the problems with my furnace and AC persist. Unfortunately, although I feel the technicians have been good, I cannot with integrity recommend Griffith Energy Services. The company is not customer-friendly in its practices or general service orientation.

I have been a customer of Griffith Energy Services for 20 years and had generally been satisfied. Griffith provided me with fuel oil and has installed both a furnace and air conditioner for me. I have service contracts on both, as well as a Tank Sure tank service contract. In the last 2-3 years, I have been noticing that the prices Griffith charged have been considerably higher than the cost of Diesel fuel at gas stations. I understand that home heating oil and Diesel fuel are essentially the same. These high prices have become a great burden in the last two years as the price of fuel has skyrocketed. In December, I had another experience with Griffith that sensitized me to its exorbitant prices. I also have an Aprilaire Humidifier on my furnace, installed by Griffith. It had about reached the end of its useful life, so I contacted Griffith about replacing it with a new one. Griffith wanted $695 to purchase and install an Aprilaire 700 Humidifier, a unit that is available for $203.90 on the Internet. I chose to have Griffth service the old humidifier (for a charge of $89). The technician replaced a water tube but didn't have a fan motor with him that was not working. I thought the $89 charge was high, but I was enraged when I was charged an additional $31 for the water tube, which was available on the internet for $6.99. I would have had to pay another $89 service charge to replace the motor (plus the Griffith price for the motor), so I purchased the motor online and replaced it myself. This experience stimulated me to compare oil prices with other companies. For my last delivery on December 31, 2013, Griffth charged me $4.609 per gallon for the fuel oil. I checked with two other companies. Laurel Fuel Oil and Heating Company's price was $3.89. Burtonsville Fuel Oil's price was $3.93. I had a delivery of 138.4 gallons of oil on December 30. I paid $.719 per gallon more to Griffith than I would have to Laurel Fuel Oil, a difference of $99.50 for the order. On November 30, Griffth delivered 216.9 gallons at a price of $4.449 per gallon. At that time, Laurel Fuel Oil was charging $3.78 per gallon, a difference of $.669 per gallon or $145.11 for the delivery. This is price gouging in every sense of the word. I also compared the price of my presidential service contract with Griffth for my furnance over the years. This is a top-tier contract that will pay up to $3,000 toward a new furnace should it fail. In 1996, I paid $209.95 for this contract, and it has risen steadily since then to $429.95 this year. At this point, I have paid about double the price of the $3,000 I'm allowed for a new furnace, and I suspect that Griffith will charge far more than anyone else for a new furnace should I need one. The $3,000 probably would only cover Griffith's excessive price were I to retain the presidential contract. Today, I cancelled my 20-year relationship with Griffth. I left four messages with a Griffith representative to talk about these prices, and I received no call in return. I can only conclude that Griffith has no interest in its customers. It is truly an irresponsible company that wants to exploit its customers and not serve them.

On the Monday before Thanksgiving, our oil furnace quit working. We buy our oil from Griffith Energy Services and have a furnace service contract with the company as well. Early Tuesday morning, a technician arrived to look at the furnace and said that it needed to be replaced as the firebox had collapsed and was not repairable. The damage was extensive enough that he was unable to even do a temporary repair to keep the furnace in operation until it could by replaced. Before he left the house, the technician contacted the equipment sales staff, who promptly phoned us and set up an appointment for Tuesday afternoon. The salesman thoroughly explained the furnace replacement options and the costs of each. As soon as we had made a selection, he set up installation for the following morning. The installers arrived bright and early on Wednesday and had finished the job by early afternoon, despite several unexpected complications in the installation. We were truly thankful for the rapid and professional response, particularly on the dat before a holiday.
