Genuinely friendly people and very knowledgeable. They listened to my concerns, worked within my budget, and fulfilled all of the tasks and then some. It's a cohesive team that worked hard to quickly complete the projects. It was also refreshing to work with contractors who actually followed through as opposed to so many I've dealt with that didn't return calls or didn't show up when promised. When I have more projects to do within the scope of their services (which is pretty extensive) they'll be the ones I call again.
Description of Work: I had a roof and screens put on my existing deck as well as enclosed some open ports in my foundation/crawl space.

They did a good job providing us with the information we were looking for. Unlike other remodeling companies, Earth Friendly provided us with an actual quotation, not just an general estimate.

They were very professional. Showed up when they said they would. When some extra repairs were needed after removing the floor from the bathroom, they provided me with the estimate and there were no hidden surprises in the final invoice. Cleanup every day and came back to do some necessary followup work. The people doing the work were real craftsman and obviously took pride in their work. I would use them again without any hesitation
Description of Work: I had them do 2 remodeling jobs for me. The first was to remove and old wooden front porch and sidewalk and replace it with a stone porch and walkway. The second was a remodeling of two full bathroom that were back to back to each other. They expanded the one in the master bedroom and made the other hallway bathroom into a powder room. The bathroom work took them about 3 weeks to complete, but they took their time and got the job done correctly and repaired some hidden damage to the bathroom floors

This was my first experience with Angie's List, and I am extremely happy that I tried it. After reviewing contractors on Angie's List, I selected Earth Friendly Services who responded promptly to my initial call. Steve, the owner, came out to assess my problem. From the moment I met Steve, I knew he could solve our ongoing problems with water coming into our basement. He was not only extremely knowledgeable, but very personable, as well. After he left our home, I told my husband that I knew he could solve our problem. During the next few days, Steve had his assistant, Bill Harford, to follow up on our issues. A date was set for Earth Friendly Services to come out to complete the work. On the scheduled day, they brought a team of workers. The team did an extensive/comprehensive assessment as they worked. After five hours, the work was completed, and our property was left neat and clean. The Earth Friendly Services' team left us feeling confident about the resolution to our problem, and Steve assured us that he would stand behind his work. Steve and Bill are experts in their field, and I would highly recommend this company to anyone! Thanks, Earth Friendly Services, for a job well done!

They were very good people. He was the cheapest one. He was very nice and very polite. He seemed very knowledgeable. I will know if it worked when I get some rain. I had to leave when he came and when I came home the room looked so clean. Everything was perfect, which was the first time I had seen that in a while. He did a very neat job. He came on Sunday and we talked awhile. He was very helpful. He came right on time and he was very responsive. He called and emailed. I would use them again and I would recommend him. I was very happy with him. I got 3 estimates and he seemed like he had the knowledge.
Description of Work: I used Earth Friendly Services because my basement had leaked. He put in some sump pumps with a battery backup, drain tile and he filled in some holes in my crawlspace.

The recent hurricane left water in our finished basement. Steve came out and evaluated the problem and suggested installing drainage to divert surface water away from the foundation. At my request he also installed a retaining wall behind the house. Steve is extremely knowledgeable and his men do great work. If you have a water problem, call Steve first.

I found his company's name on Angies list because it was close to our home with great ratings. Bill called and I told him what I needed to be done before July 19th. He arrived on time, knew what to do and finished the work, cleaned up and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: Bill, from the company, installed 4 new outdoor lighting fixtures, made safe our deck electrical plug ins, installed new screening to our sliding doors and repaired some deck and patio wood trim that was in bad shape. He was very accommodating to my work schedule and did a great job. I felt his price for all the work was fair and his quality of work was "A" . I will call him for future projects, without a doubt.

We met with the owner, Steve and he answered all of our questions with clarity and confidence. He had a no pressure approach and offered a couple of options to fix the problem we were having with water in the basement. He gave us a written estimate which was very fair. Communication was good. Steve worked with us as well as the tenants in the house to arrange when the work would be performed. The Earth Friendly Services team was experienced and professional. They were able to finish the job in two days. Payment was 1/3 upfront and the remainder upon completion. After the severe storms this past weekend, which flooded several roads in the area, we were extremely happy to hear from the tenants that the basement was dry!
Description of Work: Complete waterproofing of basement. The work included jack hammering the perimeter of the basement, hauling out all the cement, waterproofing, refilling with new cement and adding two new sump pumps.

For several months, we had a small leak into the basement. Our first suspicion was a grading problem. There was a gutter drainage problem that caused water to accumulate by the wall. And after regrading, for a bit, it was better -- no leaks. But about a month ago, after a sustained rainstorm, the leak came back. At that point we knew we need a professional to help us. We searched the list for a bit, and decided to call EFS. Called Tuesday afternoon, had a response that evening, and a promise to come and a**** the situation the next morning. That was critical to us, since there was a huge rainstorm in the forecast. As we had to adjust our schedule, they called back at 9 AM, and were able to come just when we were available. Great start. So, Steve arrived, on time, and took his shoes off -- as we requested. After looking at the leak site in the basement, we went outside. There Steve showed how experience (and some luck ;) can make a difference -- he asked for a shovel, and started digging by the wall where he felt there maybe a problem. In less then 5 minutes, he exposed not one but two drill holes going right through the foundation. A simple test he devised showed that this is -- if not the only problem -- a definite water entry point. This is where it got interesting: Steve said that in this case, he will give us simple instructions how to fix this in a quick DIY fashion. He said that if this does not work, he will come back to give it a more in depth look. And then he told us that there will be no charge for the visit or his advice! A short trip to HD, and $50 plus an hour of work later -- the holes were fixed. And when the rainstorm came, and it rained for a day plus -- NO LEAK! we waited for another rainstorm to post this review -- and there is no sign of water in the basement anymore. So, the cost to fix was actually pretty close to zero. Kudos to EFS -- for going above and beyond expectations. If we ever need a basement done -- they will be the first outfit we call.

My mother's basement was a damp, mess with water seeping down the foundation of the house in visible lines. The wood panels installed in a 1960's renovation were warping and there was water damage on the ceiling from a previous flood. Steve and Bill of Earth Friendly Services arrived promptly and diagnosed the problem quickly. This was a huge job and they had the experience and skills to do what was necessary. My mother has a reverse mortgage that requires the house is maintained, but she is too frail to handle this kind of remodeling. Steve was very specific, clear and loud when he explained the problems to my mother. She liked his manner and professionalism immediately. He is certified to deal with asbestos and very clear that the work would not create any hazard or problems for resale. i was thrilled to find such a variety of skills in one company. I acted as the contact for Earth Friendly Services for the scheduling and money. My sister and I made sure the basement was cleared of all of the junk that had been left down there. Steve and Bill handled the tear-down of the old cabinets, digging a drain for the water with a jack hammer; pouring the concrete; installing a sump pump and painting and caulking so restore four rooms to useable space. They helped my mother and I select a new sink, countertop and cabinet. The work was completed within a week, despite a snow storm. Now, the basement is dry, freshly painted and has a new sink, cabinet and countertop. The electrical outlets have been replaced and the wires checked. It is wonderful to know that my mother has a safe, dry basement. it meets all requirements by the mortgage company and looks great. Earth Friendly Services were clear and very easy to work with. I highly respect the skills and experience they offer and enjoyed working with them.
Description of Work: 2 Stages: Basement waterproofing--cinder blocks tapped to release water; French drain created next to (possible asbestos) floor tiles for water to flow across half of basement to sump pump in furnace room. Concrete was poured over the drain area and new brown tiles were placed over concrete to go with the floor tiles installed during remodel from 1960's. Stage two--removed ancient kitchenette cabinets and sink and water-damaged ceiling tiles as well as all shelving (that was falling apart). Painted all walls and ceiling; repaired closet door in bedroom, installed sink and oak cabinet and countertop to enhance laundry area. Checked electrical wiring and replaced plugs that were falling apart. Placed plates on top of any electrical access area no longer used. All work done to Maryland building codes.

I couldn't have been happier. They did exceptional work, charged me exactly what they said they would, and finished early! I'm a facilities person by trade and got several quotes. I'm picky and have high expectations. Steve and Bill took the time to properly assess the job: they moved ceiling tiles, opened the electrical panel, looked closely at the plumbing, and helped me think through all the possibilities for picking a place to put the upstairs laundry. They stuck to the price they quoted me and didn't blink when they found out that I had actually purchased a side-by-side washer and dryer instead of a stackable one :-) My dad couldn't be happier with his kitchen and I couldn't be happier with my laundry! I've worked with a lot of contractors over the years and I've never met anyone more cost conscious. I can't wait until next year when I'll call them back to replace all the cabinets and countertops in MY kitchen! Earth Friendly Services aren't just a contractor...they are trusted advisors. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

I had already heard about Earth Friendly Services through a friend of mine. Who loved them and was getting ready to use them again to finish her basement to give her and her family more living space. So every time we have a hard rain our basement becomes a nightmare. And we always say its ok how often do we really get hard rains like that. So it has cost us a lot of money over the years not fixing it in the first place. So I contacted Earth Friendly Services to come out and give me an estimate. Set up an appointment. They showed up on time walked me and my husband through everything answered all our questions. Steven was very knowledgeable of all the systems. And promise to get back with us with an estimate. 3 days later we got our estimate. It was a little over our budget but they worked with us and put it with in a range we both could work with. I really liked that. So we schedule to have the work done. They came on time and were every professional. Finished on time as well. Now we have a dry basement. Thank you Earth Friendly Services.
Description of Work: Put plastic over everything, pulled carpet back,Jack hammered floor next to wall dug dirt out. Dug trench put in the sump pump and drain tile in and graveled over. Drilled holes in wall , put drainage board against the wall under the floor and cemented system up.

Although it took a while to connect - we finally did through e-mail, once we spoke things moved very quickly. Everyone we dealt with at Earth Friendly Services was friendly and professional. They answered all my questions and provided me with options. I will definitely contact them when we are ready to renovate our master bath.
Description of Work: We had a non-working garbage disposal, a clogged drain, and reversed hot and cold faucet in the kitchen. We also have a faucet that drips in the master bath. Steven came out on a Saturday afternoon and said he'd have Bill come out to fix it. He called later that day to let me know Bill could come on Monday. Bill was able to unclog the drain and get the garage disposal working again and reverse the hot and cold without any new parts. He looked at the faucet in the master bath and determined that it couldn't be fixed without breaking it, so we decided to leave it until we have our bathroom renovated.

Second time used this contractor. Whole job took about 6 weeks (includes wait time for cabinet-making and delivery) with most of planning and work done by main employee Eric Schug. Owner Steve Skrym also involved in pricing, in those parts requiring two persons for heavy lifting (mainly movement of cabinets), and in getting some special parts found to be needed as work progressed. Learned a lot about our old (1965) house from Eric during planning and execution stages and how it could be improved in various ways beyond present job. Everyone very friendly throughout the job, Eric explaining reasons for order in which tasks were done, then diligently doing them with incredible energy and great skill -- and improvisation when needed. We don't think such a complex, wearying job could have been done better by any other remodeler. Despite a few glitches (all dealt with in best possible way), the kitchen now looks beautiful and fits in seamlessly with the adjacent living areas, making two levels of our old house look almost palatial. We were very pleased with the process and the outcome, and we plan to ask the company in a few months to do the few smaller remodeling jobs remaining on our list.
Description of Work: Almost complete kitchen remodeling, except kept countertop, steel sink, frig and oven. A few added non-kitchen tasks such as replacement of sliding cabinet doors in master bedroom and new flush mechanisms on 3 toilets. Kitchen work: order and install new sink faucet, new stained oak cabinets, new Energy Star dishwasher, white gas stove top, and range hood. Selected and installed new hardwood flooring. Removed wall tiles and put in new ones. Painted walls a mellow yellow. Took up two layers of pre-existing flooring before hardwood put in. Patched subfloor under sink. Found and fixed water leak originating in that area. Extensive grouting done where necessary and where it was lacking before. Found and fixed unsafe connections to one of gas appliances. New,safer and more reliable electrical sockets. Diagnosed and fixed nearby piping leak leading to backyard hose outlet.

They were very professional and friendly. They came out on time and gave me a quote. It was very fast service. The quote was reasonably priced and lower than other quotes I received. The only reason I didn't use them was because someone else bought the home that I wanted service on. When I do find a home to purchase, they will be at the top of my list of contractors to contact for renovations.

Owner provided all supplies (wood, paint, tiles, special piping), then sent very skilled, meticulous, creative and friendly young employee to do actual work with materials and precise tools (a lot) and parts needed in his truck. Work was done over about two days. After consulting with us, he/we opted for a paint color and trim on top which turned out to be very attractive next to our old finished paneling and newly laid tiles covering the smooth concrete visible after our prior whole basement waterproofing job. Tile cutting and laying, and all painting was expert quality. Very impressed, too, with commitment of these guys to cost containment and respect for environment.
Description of Work: Owner examined our newly waterproofed finished basement, devised plan for high moldings and trim to improve wall appearance, painted and installed all this, located and replaced hard-to-access slow-leaking water pipe linked to household piping and outside hose area, replaced hose tap with modern system.

I've been involved with Steve for two jobs so far: One was a pretty big renovation of a yoga studio, where I was the owner's rep. Really responsive and professional. Work was demolition, a good deal of new electrical including GFI outlets, wiring for speakers and phone/data lines, bamboo floor and countertops, lots of framing and drywall, plumbing for two new bathrooms, insulating using special high-efficiency "green" sound insulation between floors, outdoor waterproofing of brick and window frames, masonry parging and repair, managing the HVAC subcontractor and ductwork, and probably more that I'm not thinking of right now. My latest work with Earth Friendly Services was a major kitchen / dining room renovation of a restaurant, which involved new and old plumbing, electrical including varying phases and voltages, masonry work like fixing fireplaces and parging outdoor walls, tiling from floor to ceiling in the new kitchen, carpentry work like stair tread replacement, new bamboo flooring installed, wrought iron, stairs, cabinets, gaslines, a sump pump, locks and door work, you name it.
