Perry Moving & Storage

I had a prompt and professional estimate from Sam Perry, an owner, and Perry was able to meet a 3 window requested move date. In advance of the move, I purchased $30,000 of supplemental full-replacement insurance, with a $0 deductible. Three movers arrived as planned on time the morning of my move. They were courteous and professional when wrapping my furniture and preparing it for loading. I had a binding estimate but was paying by the hour since it was a local move. The guys says they needed a 15min break during packing (which I was OK with), and I started calling them at 30min and they showed up after a 45 minute break, which I was paying for, reeking of smoke. When we were ready to leave to do to the drop off and load, I confirmed with Darrell, the driver and team leader, the delivery address and asked him if he needed instructions. He replied "No." and showed me a copy of printed google directions to the address and also replied that they had a GPS for backup, if needed. I left the starting location in front of the delivery truck, which was fully packed and out of the loading dock. An additional 30 minutes after arriving at my location, I received a call from Darrell indicating that they were lost. I asked why they didn't use the directions, and they had no response other than they had used the GPS and it wasn't working. My location is not a new or complicated address and has never caused a problem with any individual or delivery service trying to locate it. After an additional 20 minutes (a total of 50 minutes after I arrived at my new home), the team finally arrived to deliver my furniture. The move into the house went smoothly until the team went to unload my new Ethan Allen sofa and a 200 year old antique secretary, which I had reiterated was the piece of furniture I cared most about. The front right leg of the Ethan Allen sofa was cracked upon delivery and was not cracked when we left. It was a new sofa with white glove delivery service into the pickup location. The team delivered the 2 piece secretary desk to its location on the 2nd floor of my home. Screws needed to be secured to latches to connect the top and bottom portions of the secretary, to allow it to be free standing on its own. One of the movers agreed to hold the hutch while I screwed in the screws. I dropped 1 of 3 screws and rather than waiting until all of the other screws were secured, or asking for help from another mover, or notifying me of his intentions, the mover bent down to pick up the screw, completely releasing his grip on the top, which promptly crashed front first onto the floor. Thanks to solid 200 year old wood and lots of good luck, the leaded glass front doors (surprisingly) didn't shatter. However, damage was done to the wood of the hutch top and scratches were made on my hardwood floors where the hutch landed. The hutch was damaged on the top right crown molding and on the trim along the front the front doors. Darrell, the team leader, came to the room and took pictures to document the evidence and I noted the damage on the delivery form. Perry Moving did not plan to leave me with a copy of the delivery form, so I took a copy of the completed form with my smartphone. When I didn't receive an apology from Arthur, the associate involved in the drop, I mentioned this to Darrell, who asked Arthur to come back and apologize to me, which he did. Knowing that movers depend on tips, I did tip them modestly, but less so than I otherwise would have due to the heavy delays in breaks and transport for which they were paid. In addition to Darrell reporting the damage on 08/08/2014, I left a voicemail with Daniel Murdock, the local move coordinator, that same day to request to start the claim process. After allowing 3 days to be contacted, I emailed Sam Perry, the owner, on 09/11/2014, attaching pictures of the damage and the delivery form which a request for information needed to start the claim process. I subsequently received a voicemail and email from Heidi DeVane, the claims coordinator, on 09/11/2014, acknowledging my claim and providing me claims paperwork to complete. I emailed the completed paperwork along with additional requested pictures to Heidi, Sam, and Daniel on 9/16/2014. After receiving no contact by either phone or email to my completed claims paperwork, I emailed Heidi, Sam, and Daniel on 09/29/2014 requesting a response and indicated I would initiate the Angie's List complaint and resolution process if I did not have an accessor out that week. I received a prompt phone call on 09/29/2014 and was told an accessor would be out that week. The accessor did come out that week only to inspect the furniture (not my floors) and to say that he needed to complete the repairs at his shop and that Perry would need to arrange for transport. I asked if Perry would insure the contents for full replacement and he couldn't answer me but said that he would have Perry answer the question when they responded to arrange for pickup. It has been 6 weeks since then, and I have not been contacted by Perry Moving. This needs to be resolved and corrected at Perry's expense.

The crew was professional and courteous. They did a great job moving us from one house to the other. They quoted me $885.00 but it wound up being $1200 (still not bad) because I had to have a few items disassembled and reassembled. I would definitely recommend this company.

The packers (a team of 4) were excellent - thorough, careful to a fault and very efficient. The movers (a team of 6 with 2 vans) were exceptional - very professional, hard-working, cheerful, polite, and went out of their way to accommodate our wishes. The packing of the vans and subsequent unloading were done over a period of 8 hours, during which the team worked almost non-stop - just a brief stop for "lunch" at 3 pm!

The move went fabulous with Eric and his crew: great guys who were very patient and helpful; strong and careful; on time and efficient; and knew their stuff. Diana gave an accurate estimate and followed through by making sure all was progressing; and later, that all went well. Others from the company checked in with us, too, notifying of times and allowing for any questions. All gave us confidence that throughout the process we were dealing with a hands-on responsible company that prides themselves in doing a competent and thorough job.

My parents were moving from a large apartment in Towson MD to a smaller one in Fullerton MD. Sam Perry came promptly when my father called him, surveyed the job, gave an estimate and received a deposit. Once my parents knew when they could move, a date was set. On the date of the move, family members supervised the move. The men arrived on time, packed carefully and efficiently. They worked for 7-8 hours taking only one five minute break . They were professional and friendly the entire time. They disassembled several items and reassembled them at the new apartment. Despite rain and high volume traffic, as well as difficulty fitting all of the furniture and boxes in tight quarters in the new apartment, the job was completed in the time contracted. We would not hesitate to engage this moving company again.

This was a two-day job--1st day packing, 2nd day (different crew) of actual moving. Summary: the packers were very poor; the movers were excellent; the overall move was awful. Day 1, packing: Within 1/2 hour of the packers' arrival, I called the coordinator (?), Daniel, to please come out and have a look. I was very uncomfortable from the outset-- 1) My basic sense of the crew (3 of the 4) was unease. 2) The 1st cigarette break was 15 minutes after arriving. 3) One packer struggled to tape boxes at the outset--"Why's this tape not working? What's wrong with this tape? This tape won't work." It took her about half an hour to assemble (not load) about 6 boxes. 4) There was lots of standing around waiting for the others to do something 5) All 4 of them piled into their van to move it out of the driveway (20 feet). Packing was performed mostly (not entirely) as if done by a team of 9-year olds: --power cords not with devices --shelf hardware not with shelves --different rooms packed into same boxes --lampshades not packed with associated lamps etc. etc. etc. This has really amplified the pain of unpacking. One packer spent some time chatting with his girlfriend, who had pulled up in front of the house during the job. One unbelievable event: One packer left a very unpleasant surprise for me in the master bedroom toilet; I didn't discover this until after they had left. Due to the clinging nature of the event, it actually required hand cleaning on my part. Unbelievably disgusting. Day 2, moving The initial estimate, by Sam Perry, considerably underestimated the job. This led to a lot of problems: 1) the movers showed up with inadequate truck space 2) my wife and I crammed everything we could into our two large SUVs, and then had to unload these ourselves--so we were moving heavy boxes, small appliances, etc. ourselves, which was not what we were paying for. 3) Trying to shoehorn everything into the two vans (one 24 foot, one 18 foot) and our two SUVs added probably an extra hour and a half to the packing job. 4) Given the size of the job, more manpower should have been assigned (yes, at greater cost, that's fine); as it was, the day extended beyond 12 hours (9 hour estimate). We were moving until after 9 PM! A second unbelievable event: An additional small van was sent (a 2 hour round trip, at no additional cost--it was their error) to pick up and deliver the remaining items that couldn't be crammed into the two vans and our two SUVs . After delivering the things, the two men in the van refused to help me carry in a few remaining boxes from my car--they said they had been told to only deliver the remaining items they had brought. Perry Moving men flatly refused to help the old man carry in heavy boxes? I'm not making this up. Overall: The movers (as opposed to the packers) were great (excellent foremen named Postal), and remained efficient and cheerful throughout this job that stretched from the predicted 9 hours into a full 12+ hours. However, my wife and I were left to carry in all the things crammed into our SUVs. Also, towards the end, box placement became random, so we've had to do a lot more carrying from the basement to the second floor, 1st floor to the basement, etc. It's a lot of extra work and moving. The management (Sam Perry and the other supervisor, Daniel) were semi-interested in the various issues, along the lines of expressions of regret and apology. Thanks!!! They did not provide the promised follow-up regarding the present left in the toilet--like, figuring out who did it, and what was done about it internally. They did charge only the initial estimate rather than for the actual amount of time spent, but again, of the 3+ extra hours, a huge fraction of that was spent trying to shoehorn all the things into the inadequate vans, and all the moving my wife and I had to do was not supposed to be part of the bargain. I would have gladly paid a few hundred bucks more so that my wife and I weren't personally moving things all day, and so that the job wouldn't have lasted so long, and we were not left with so many mis-placed boxes in the house. This was a dreadful packing and moving experience, and as far as I can tell from their lack of follow-up or attempt to rectify the issues, management is not particularly interested. Summary of high points: --the movers themselves were excellent and managed to remain in good cheer throughout this much longer than expected day --Perry moving didn't even attempt to charge me for the additional time required; that attempt would have failed, but I would gladly have paid more for a better move Summary of low points: --the underestimate of truck requirements, leading to a very long day and many misplaced boxes --my wife and I were lugging boxes and items throughout the day (loading and unloading) as it became clear the movers were running out of van space and the day was getting far too long--not what we had paid for --poor job of packing --the present left for me in the toilet by one of the packers --the refusal of the movers who came later (to deliver a small load of remaining items) to help me carry in boxes into the house --management lack of follow-up, so, presumably, lack of interest Note to management: this entire negative review could have been avoided by more management responsiveness. If I had been assured that something had been done to improve things for the next unwitting customers, then there would have been no need to post this deservedly negative review.

Perry never responded to my two requests for an estimate for a move to New Mexico, so I can't comment on any other aspect of their service.

Perry Moving did a terrific job on a complicated move. Items in the house were being moved to two different locations. The move required packing of the kitchen and some other rooms by Perry. They were organized, communicative and energetic. Nothing was broken and the move went smoothly. The office staff, packers and movers were all pleasant and the movers were some of the most high energy folks I have had the pleasure of working with. All in all, Perry made a difficult move as pleasant as possible.

They were very thorough. The guy that was in charge made sure to check up on everthing. They were all really friendly.

The movers came on time; was very professional both from and to pats. Very careful with my belongings. They wrapped either with blankets or wrap or boxes and I had glass curio cabinet. When they arrived at new apt, everything was put in place and put together. All in all they were professional in their move and manners. I would use them again. The only regret I have and had was that I forgot to give them each a tip for a job well done!!

Perry's moving and storage is the best company you could find. I moved cross country from Maryland to Arizona and they did not want a dime from me until the move was complete...Believe me, no other moving companies I dealt with were like that. My moving coordinator, Tara was very nice and sweet and made me a lot less stressed They were with me through the whole move. Were friendly courteous and just downright nice. My move started with an in home estimate. They walked through my house in Maryland and took notes of everything and all the things i wanted done. They stayed in touch with me through the move. Moving day, they showed up on time and wrapped all the furniture and fragile items. The were hard working and didn't slack on the job. The day before delivery they called to let me know what time they would arrive. Dwight, the driver was very friendly, courteous and pretty funny...His helpers arrived and unloaded the truck. I have never seen worker,work so hard. They were the best crew you could have wanted and made moving a joy...no stress. If i ever had to move again I would not call anyone but Perry's Moving Love you guys and thanks so much.

This was our second time using Perry, and it was great. The movers showed on time, didn't break anything, and were professional and friendly. Furthermore, the company was able to accommodate my last-minute request for an additional mover which really helped.

Perry Moving and Storage was excellent from start to finish on my long-distance move. They first had to co-ordinate with my getting-older parents near Baltimore as I did not want them having to lift anything or having to deal with the mess. My father and mother both praised them, and said that they were helpful in preparing them for the move and giving advice on packaging. They came to the house to look over the items and gave an accurate quote. The truck came to pick up the items on Monday Sept 8. The drivers assisted with wrapping large items like the sofa and china cabinet. We were told that we would not know the arrival date until the truck was fully loaded and they planned their delivery schedule, but were given a week or so window. I was worried that I would not know what day to request off of work, but I was told by friends that this is to be expected with long-distance movers and I would be lucky to know more than the day before when things would arrive. Much to my pleasure, Tara called me on Thursday to let me know that they would probably be delivering my items on Sunday afternoon!! She said she would call back to confirm, and did a short time after. Sunday morning Reggie on the truck called me to confirm that they had one delivery to make and then would be headed to my house. They arrived promptly at around 11 AM. They were careful about protecting the floors and doorframes before starting to unload the truck. We had some issues with a neighbor complaining about the truck taking up too much space, but Reggie and James handled the situation with professionalism and hurried to get the job done so my next door neighbor wouldn't lose her head. Both Reggie and James were courteous, friendly, and careful. Thanks guys!! They were finished by around 2 PM. We did have a few broken plates and glasses, but admittedly I had packed these myself in a somewhat careless fashion. If you have things that are breakable and meaningful then I urge you to pay for the company to pack them!! After hearing and reading horror stories about long-distance moving companies, I am glad I turned to Angie's List and found Perry Moving and Storage.

Diane was very nice and helpful when she came out to quote. All three movers were great very thorough and helpful. Everything went as expected.

This is our 5th move with Perry Movers. They arrived on time, were careful but efficient too. They did a terrific job. You can't go wrong with Perry!
