Absolute disaster. 5 work crews, deceit from one, poor quality from the others, hiding errors, asking owner how to do stuff, no oversight. I cannot even begin to tell you just how awful an experience this was. 1 5x7 bathroom and a double vanity took them over 7 weeks when they said a max of two, all because of their errors. In the end I had to install a toilet handle that matched the sink, they put a white 0.59 Walmart plastic handle on a $13K bathroom. The towel rack they installed wasn't level, when they were called to fix it, they didn't fill the old holes, two months later a whole section of drywall fell out because they drilled the new holes too close together. Didn't fill the tub before they set the tile so months later a large gap. Improperly sloped pipes creates a dripping sound behind the wall as it runs out. Failed to connect the drain, caught by 3rd crew. Double vanity improperly sloped drain so backs up. Had to tear tile and toilet out twice due to their errors. Broke the vanity during installation and tried to hide it. Absolutely awful. Wouldn't have them build a kids ant farm let alone do a rennovation in your house. There is more, but it makes me sick to think about it. On top of that they tried to take advantage of my wife's stress when I was gone to get her sign it was complete even though they had made major mistakes they hadn't corrected yet. Stay away. They should not have a license. They robbed us as far as I am concerned. A bunch of shady sales people and poor workmanship.
Description of Work: Tear down one bathroom (5X7) to studs and replace everything. Add double vanity/sink in other.

Capital Remodeling completely redesigned our Arlington kitchen from the ground up. Sales team was top notch. Work crew did a fantastic job and was always available to work around our schedule. With the exception of some minor miscommunication regarding the work crew coming out on weekends we had no complaints. Kitchen is fantastic and they didn't leave the job site until we were 100% satisfied. Worth every penny!!!
Description of Work: Arlington style galee kitchen needed complete replacement. Capital Remodeling gutted and rebuilt our kitchen based design custom to our likes and needs.

It went pretty good. Everything went fine with the installations themselves. The work was well done. The sliding glass door stopped airflow which is why I wanted it in the first place. They were on time and did the work well. I thought I had a problem, but turns out I didn't. With the screen door, there were some screws showing so I called them to try and get it fixed - They told me they'd get in touch with me within a couple weeks. A week later I got a call and someone came out a week after that. The serviceman did come out and explained why the screws were the way they were. I usually like someone to get back me sooner, but I imagine they didn't think a couple screws for the screen door was an emergency. The guy they sent out was really, really nice - all the service people were good. I would still use them again and recommend them.

what a SCARY experience..I must say we were very skeptical at first. when the time comes to make important decisions about your home, and when spending a lot of money is involved, large home improvement projects can be quite overwhelming. My wife and I have talked about doing windows for some time now but we never acted on it because choosing a quality company with a good reputation can be difficult. With all the horror stories out there, this was a very stressful process. We don't like to throw money away and we wanted to be certain that every dollar was well spent. We finally decided it was time to stop talking about it and proceed with our plans to replace the old, warn out, and very ugly windows that were costing us so much money on our energy bills. First Call: We called several companies and I can honestly say we have had the best experience with Capital Remodeling from start to finish. When I first called to make an appointment for a free estimate, the lady who answered the phone was so helpful and answered all of my questions. First impression means everything- I was not disappointed. At times, I can be a very difficult customer as i want to make sure I am making the best choices for me, but the representative handled me well and was pleasant throughout the entire phone call. I was worried that they would not be able to work around my hectic schedule, but together, we were able to find a time where my wife and I could be there for the estimate. Capital is very flexible, they have late evening appointments and even weekends. This was good because I wanted my wife to be involved in this process also. Day of appointment: I got stuck at work and was worried that we would miss our appointment. This was the only day for the next several weeks that we would be available. I called the office and asked if I could make the appointment 1 hour later and that did not seem to be any problem. But as the end of the day neared, I still was not able to leave work as planned. As I was getting ready to call the office for the second time today, my cell phone rang and it was the manager calling to confirm the appointment. I apologized and explained that I would not be there in time, but thankfully they were able to still come out since they have appointments as late as 8pm. The Capital team worked with my schedule and they were able to accomodate me. I feel this important when building a consumer: business relationship. The guy who came to our house was very personable and he seemed very knowledgeable. He took his time even though it was late, and I'm sure he wanted to get home to his own family. But he never rushed us and was very patient throughout the entire meeting. After appointment: I was really impressed with Capital's high quality product, however, my wife talked me into getting other estimates. The other companies we talked to just didn't give us the best impression, they were hard sellers and did not seem to care about us the way Capital did. Regardless if Capital was the first or last company to come out, we would have still gone with them. Not to mention, Capital had the strongest lifetime warranty- it was unbeatable. Other companies did not even compare. Before Windows were installed: After we signed the contract, as promised, we got a phone call just a few days later to schedule our final measurements. And not to our surprise, this process also went just as smooth as the beginning. We were notified of our install date and could not have been more excited to get these old windows out of here. Install Day: The installers showed up on time. They were neat and professional and respected my house and our belongings. They worked well as a team to get the job done. My house looked cleaner after they left, then before they even showed up. And they were even friendly to our pets. I could not wait for my wife to get home to see our brand new windows! Today: I would definitely recommend this company to our family and friends. We love, love, love our windows. They are beautiful and super easy to work with. I actually think my wife likes cleaning them, the tilt in feature is very convenient. We can now enjoy the fresh air as the days are getting warmer, no more bugs flying in our home because we have holes in our screens. My kids can even manage to open and close the windows now, something they were never able to do before. It was a pleasure to work with everyone at Capital. I will definitely use this company again in the future. It is very hard to find a quality company- we were impressed! Capital never let us down and they followed through with all of their promises. Capital Remodeling is a great choice.

The window and bath contract was signed in October. After signing the contract, the company became very pushy about getting the money from us. First, a very unprofessional man kept calling demanding $50,000 in cash. Then when I clarified that we were not doing the kitchen yet, he said he needed $15000 cash deposit, the rest to be paid on completion. I told him we were financing and I didn't know where he got the idea we were paying cash, and at any rate had no intention to pay such a large amount before their services started as the contract specifically states payment is due on completion. Eventually we straightened this issue out and I paid approximately 1200 as a deposit. Our new windows were put in with a rush order due to the season and the fact that we have a broken window. We were told they would be about 2 months, so they should be in around Christmas. That came and went and I began calling to get some idea when they would be done. I didn't get any returned phone calls, which I assumed was due to the holidays. Finally I got someone after new years day, and was told the install date was tentatively set for 10 January. That day came and went too. I spent another week calling four different numbers for this company, and not getting a response to messages I left. I was told a few times the windows were done, they just had to have me sign an addendum for the bay window. It was signed but still nobody called when I was and quot;promisedand quot; someone would call to schedule the install the very next business day. Finally I got a call from the window company, apparently subcontracted, saying they could install my windows in February. I was appalled at that late date. The lady said she didn't know who told me they would be sooner than that, and she was told the hold up was due to me not signing something. I told her nobody has contacted me to sign anything else, nor returned my phone calls. The windows were installed February 3rd, the crew was professional and cleaned up after themselves very well. However, I did watch them unceremoniously plop my new bay window down in the front yard. I thought it seemed they handled it very rough. Well, sure enough, they broke the frame. Just a small 2 inch chip out of the outside, but this is a brand new bay window that cost about $5,000 on its own. I want perfection. I am still waiting for this to be fixed, but the company is dragging their feet. They complained that they might have to replace the whole window. Tough, I paid for a new window, not some broken thing. They never even offered a discount for the damage. 1 March, still waiting on an answer. Now our bathroom is almost finished being installed. We were told mid January for that, so we at least started on schedule. The lady who called to schedule the install said the remodeling will take about a week. Now, when we signed these guys on we were told about 2-3 days, it is a very small bathroom, and our only bathroom in the house. Now at the last minute we are told we won't have a shower for a full week or more. Not acceptable. I took the day off to be home to let them in on 23 January as scheduled, but got a call at 8pm the night before to say they weren't coming. The installer apparently had bronchitis. I fully understand not putting him to work while sick, he should stay home and rest; what I don't understand is that the work hinges on one guy, especially demolition. So now that work had to be postponed as well, but only a couple days/ So the whole experience thus far has been miserable, the complete lack of professionalism on behalf of this company is shocking. The sales guy, David, has been fantastic and punctual; he's the only person who returns my phone call. A week after my bathroom had been gutted we discovered the tiles were not what we thought we ordered. They were the right tile according to the lable, but looked nothing like what I wanted. The salesperson came out and compared to the sample and agreed they look nothing alike. However, I was told that if I chose to return it would take another week to get them in AND I would have to pay a restocking fee. So here I was with no shower for my family to use and I'd have to wait longer? Through something they agreed was wrong, AND pay more for a mistake that was not mine? I ended up choosing to keep the tile (like I had much choice), even though I don't like them and told them I am dissatisfied. All of this disagreement put the work behind another three days. When the tiling was almost complete, they ran out of tile. Why didn't they order the standard 10% waste? No answer, they will not admit fault. So, another week goes by waiting for another set of tile to come in. Tile guy comes back, puts it up, and what do you know? ONE tile short. Seriously. The company secretary Jacky accused my family of taking the tile, again would not admit fault. I told them to check Jackie's desk since they took there one to make sure the tiles coming in matched. Yep, that was the missing tile. Did anyone apologize for accusing me of stealing my own tile? Oh no. Total time for tiling tiny bathroom: over 3 weeks. Other issues: While the walls were torn down I wanted all electrical rewired and an outlet installed, as per contract. The house is 60 years old, it needs new wiring, I was very clear on that from the get-go. Well, they tried to wire the new outlet into the existing wiring, but were told by the electrician that it was a fire hazard and the current wiring was not up to code. So, they ran wiring for the new outlet up to my attic, and connected it to nothing at all. They left the old wiring as it was and put up the drywall. I came home to discover this and naturally threw a fit. They had call me at work and tell me that my wiring was a fire hazard, and then put drywall over it? I'm at a loss. After much argument they finally rewired, but b/c the drywall was already up they just snaked the wiring in and around, rather than remove and replace the old stuff. Unprofessional and sloppy. My fiance and I checked the wiring in the attic, and while everything does work fine the wires were left all over the place, not neatly run through. We asked them to fix it, now as of 1 March they are still not cleaned up. A new ventilation fan was also installed. It's broken. While up in the attic inspecting the wiring we also inspected the fan, to discover a part of the vent cover is broken off and the moisture is all venting into my attic, which is a huge mold hazard. We requested this to be fixed. The company came out and duck-taped it. I am paying a huge amount of money for this bathroom, and I get a broken, duck-taped fan? I don't think so. 1 March, still not fixed. A job I was told would take 2-3 days, then no more than a week, is now about to hit the six week mark. I will definitely not be hiring these guys to do my kitchen. I look forward to the remodel being complete so I don't have to deal with this company anymore. They are very shady, and clearly all about cutting corners.
Description of Work: We had a free estimate from Capital Remodeling for our kitchen, bath, and windows. We decided to go ahead and hire them for the windows and bath, with possible future contract on the kitchen.

I received this company's advertisement in the mail and called them for a window quote. I am ready to replace windows. *** STRIKE ONE - The day before the first appointment they canceled at or after 6pm - too late for me to reschedule any of my appointments and work on the next day. *** STRIKE TWO - Less than 30 MINUTES before they were scheduled to arrive for a quote, they called to tell me that there would be a and quot;price increaseand quot; and the advertised and sale prices discussed at the time the appointment was made could, unfortunately, not be honored. *** STIRKE THREE - Nevertheless, I asked what the price might be. They quoted me $7,200 for FIVE windows - which are standard, wood, double hung. *** STRIKE FOUR - When I chastised the guy on the telephone for the late notification of the and quot;price increaseand quot; (I already took half a day off from work, again) the guy said something about having called earlier (no message) and when I said their price was more than twice that of their competitors, they told me THEY ARE NOT COMPETING WITH COMPANIES THAT SERVICE HISTORIC HOMES. I wish they put that disclaimer statement in the advertisement, I would not have wasted my time! Maybe they should refocus their marketing efforts too...
Description of Work: This company IS NOT COMPETING WITH COMPANIES THAT SERVICE HISTORIC HOMES AND DOES NOT WANT TO INSTALL WOOD WINDOWS. I can only assume the same is true of all other exterior services such as DOORS. Please note they send out their mail advertisements to a city / zip code / neighborhood FULL of historic homes. While I did not "spend" any money, I still did lose a lot of money in the two days I didn't go to work because I was waiting at home for their project estimator.

Company assigned a singe workman to perform the remodeling. He did everything except the electrical wiring for the new appliances and recessed lighting. This did require a longer timeframe to complete the remodeling. Superviser did make a few site visits to track progress and address any questions/issues. Workman did object to me being at home and watching him everyday but soon accepted that I was there only to observe and learn. Workman and supervisor did address my questions and issues to my satisfaction. It was a small galley-type kitchen in a small split-level type home so it wasn't a major structural project.

They came out when they were supposed to. The quality of the windows is really good. The only issue we had with them was they were supposed to do it in December so that we could get the tax credit. However, they couldn't do it until January, so we couldn't get the tax credit. They gave us a little bit of credit, but not as much as we would've gotten from the taxes. Once that happened the customer service wasn't that good anymore and they were less professional. The person wouldn't get back to me when I had questions. We wouldn't use them again because of how they treated us towards the end.

Saw this company's display in a mall and it included replacement windows, and I signed up for an estimate so I could find out about their products and determine if the cost would fit my budget. The company was good about scheduling (and re-scheduling) at a time that would be convenient from me, but it went downhill from there. I expected the salesperson to come over to the house, show me the products, take some measurements, and give me an estimate. Instead, I was subjected to a 2-hour long sales pitch that seemed like it would never end. Their window sample appeared to be good quality and well-made, but the initial price quote I was given seemed extremely high and was based only on the number of windows I had; it did not seem to matter that I had several different sizes of windows. Then I found myself in the position of haggling over price, which I had no desire to do. I felt like I was being pushed to sign with them right away and to get financing through them, just like a high-pressure car-shopping situation. It was one of the worst sales experiences I have ever had and I am unwilling to recommend this company based on that alone. I have no knowledge of the final quality of their products, or the promptness or quality of their installation since I did not make a purchase; after the sales pitch, I had absolutely no desire to buy from them. Note: At the time I dealt with this company, I had recently renovated my townhouse and dealt with a number of contractors (painting, floor covering, kitchen cabinets/applicances, HVAC, etc.), and none of the other companies I dealt with subjected me to this type of sales pitch.
Description of Work: Arranged for an estimate to replace all 10 windows in my townhouse, but did not buy any products or services from this company.

The men came as anticipated and knocked the job out the same day. All the windows were in great shape and looked beautiful. I had 45 year old living room, dining room, and kitchen windows (two vertical slide windows per room) replaced .with one large horizontal slide window. Two complaints after the job was finished...first, the old windows had a wooden vertical molding in between each window, attached to the horizontal molding ledge on top and bottom. When they replaced the windows, they ripped out that center molding and left a huge 6 inch hole on the top and bottom where they ripped out the old molding. Secondly, a small bedroom window facing the garage roof started to leak during a storm around the molding...dripping mysteriously inside from above the window! Obviously it needed a better chaulk job on the exterior.
Description of Work: After haggling with the sales "closer" and talking the price down almost 50% (that appears to be the wiggle room) I paid and got exactly what I asked for (nothing else). I paid for 12 windows to be replaced.

Everything was fine, and it was good. I only had one issue in the end, and I never told them about it. It was just a due with the billing. I asked them to take the last payment out of my credit card on a certain day, and they took it before, so besides that everything was very good. I am happy with the windows. People that came out to measure and install the windows, they were very good, kind, and professional.

I had the local marketing manager come to my home to show me the windows I had nineteen to be installed. The price was a little higher than it was for the exact window from North Georgia Window Replacements. Capital beat their price and we contracted to for the windows. It took two months for the windows to arrive. Problem number 1! Problem 2 was that they damaged the walls on four of the windows and told me it was my problem. Not feeling the love but my wallet is empty. Problem 3, two of windows were not properly sealed at installation time and when they came out I got a major attitude from the foreman and he left in huff after resealing the windows. Problem 4, they told me at the time of sale they would remove all debris that was a result of the install. I was cleaning up nails and wood frame pieces for two weeks all around the house. Here we are about fifteen months later. I just received a $300 power bill in my new efficient home!! OUCH My lower den has a window that is leaking water into the house and damaged the window frame and the floor.I have called for repairman and nobody wants to help. My warning is this could be you too if you buy from them. Do you think they will fix my window frame and my floor ??If you read their ad or get a flyer..tear it up and run the other way.

I had an estimate for 12 windows, about $12,500 good for a year, about $ 11,400 good for a month and a "Good today only price" of about $9,300. Windows appear to be very good quality. But even the "today only price" was more than double the highest estimate I got from anyone else for a comparable window. Do you homework. Get multiple estimates!

Met these people at the Wine, Dine and Design Show in Baltimore and discussed remodeling our kitchen. The representative at the booth was very insistent about setting up an appointment for an estimate. Set the appointment for my next day off. They sent me an e-mail a few days before to confirm the appointment. The appointed time came and went and they never showed up. Three days later they called saying they would like to make an appointment to give me an estimate.

A couple of door salesmen with $500 off coupons visited around the neighborhood encouraging free estimates. We took them up on it and signed up. Another sales guy showed up and gave us the full story of the company's history, backing up the company's integrity with a portfolio of jobs completed and letters of reference. He brought in a window to show the quality of it. It was a pretty long presentation to sit through, but fully informative. Of course we got the "here's the deal and you only have tonight to think about" routine. We didn't care for that part, however, we've been wanting a new window for so long that we were ready to purchase one regardless. So the "gotta make a deal tonight" just ended up siding on the annoying side. We did like that since we were told that these windows were custom made that we could have the side slider windows a size that we wanted rather than having to settle for the typical standard size. We wanted the side windows only 18" to give the picture window a larger viewing area. We were happy that they could do that for us without adding more to the price. It was around the end of April when we made the deal. The sales guy said that we would have our window installed around June, which I thought was a long way off. So I was surprised when after the guy came to measure, and after the installers came to install, that we had our window in around a month later. Speaking of the installers, they did a really good job of installing and cleaning up after themselves. I looked over the window inside and out and didn't see anything to complain about. The caulk job was done perfectly. I watched as he would towel off edges to make it perfect. The side windows work great and they feel solid when I slide them. Though the price was a bit more than we expected to pay, I believe we got what we paid for. So we are happy customers.
Description of Work: We replaced a picture window and crank side windows with one customized large picture window and side sliders.

We first experienced Capital Remodeling at a home show in January, 2011. They came and provided an estimate 2 days later. A second estimate from a different company was significantly higher. We decided, after the initial estimate, to retain the existing toilet and to purchase the vanity ourselves. We successfully negotiated a reduction to the original contract amount based on these decisions. At the agreed upon start date, the workman, Rob, showed up on time and got to work. He worked hard throughout the week and did a fantastic job on all aspects of the job, only requiring an electrician from Capital for the GFI outlet changes. Part way through the job, we realized that we had not asked for the new drywall to be painted. We provided the paint and Capital agreed to do the painting at no additional cost. Rob nearly finished in the originally projected 5 days, requiring only an extra half day. We are delighted with our "new" bathroom, now the nicest room in the house.
Description of Work: Remodeling of a bathroom. Complete removal of drywall, existing tile and flooring. Removal and replacement of existing toilet, shower surround and lighting. New shower pan, tile on walls, floor tiles, exhaust fan, faucets and shower plumbing. Installation of vanity and mirror purchased and supplied by us. Painting of walls and ceiling. Replacement of GFI outlets in this and another bathroom.

They covered everything with blankets and cloth and did not make any mess at all. There was no dust. They were really fast and efficient. The price was reasonable and the quality of the windows is excellent. It looks beautiful and aesthetic. They got back to us promptly to find out whether we had any problems or issues.

I didn't use them. They sent someone who really couldn't address the bathroom or kitchen at all. They said they might be able to send someone else out, but I don't really want to use them. I met them at the home show.
Description of Work: They gave me a quote on a whole house remodel.

We had good interactions with this company and have decided to go with them over other companies. They are going to install a bay window and a sliding glass door.

I ran into them at one of the many festivals in the fan; the Strawberry street festival actually. They had some slot machine gimmick run by a guy that did not appear to be mentally sound, but he did decide that I had won $500 off a window and I scheduled an appointment for an estimate. The man that showed up said he was not a sales guy but instead managed the sales team and he wanted my house to be an example home. He offered what he said was a special price (the $500 off thing from the fair was "included" in this price). In order to get that price I would have to put a sign in my yard and lock in with a deposit that day. As it turns out, the price wasn't too far off what I had been getting quoted for other windows and there was a pretty good warranty, so I took the bait. My main complaint is this high pressure sales tactic, and I almost didn't buy because of it. I just wanted windows soon and was getting tired of the process. A whole month passed before the guy that was supposed to measure and test for lead paint came buy. I told them they didn't need to test, that I most certainly had lead, but they insisted I probably didn't and it was worth testing. Of course, I had lead paint. That meant waiting another month or so to get a certified crew to come and plastic wrap my house like a Dexter kill room. The window install went smooth and was actually very fast and looks great. My only complaint there was when pulling the plastic down they pulled off a hunk of paint from my living room wall and didn't even tell me. Then the financing. I was shown an example of the financing and it was a simple interest loan at a reasonable rate. Well, with the work done and the finance lady showing up, I saw the financing was still at a reasonable rate, but was interest up front with repayment of unearned interest by the rule of 78s. I won't get into the explanation, but it means paying the loan off early doesn't save you nearly as much as it should. I would have gotten my own financing the example had reflected these terms. In short, good work and good product, but misleading and shady salesmen.

The salesman was knowledgeable, courteous and professional. He took about an hour and change to give his presentation and covered details of the window, warranty and installation. So far so good, I thought. Then he measured my 13 windows and preceded to give me his estimate. This is where things went down hill and he lost my business. His initial estimate was $11,972 which was good for an entire year; however, if I wanted to commit within 30 days he would drop the price to $10,997. I told him thanks and I would think about it. This is where the hard sell started. He said that he was the marketing manager and had some leeway to use funds from his ad budget as a discount for me if I would be willing to let them use me as a reference for advertising in the neighborhood. I told him if the work was good and I was happy with the experience I'd be happy to do that. He proceeded to quote me with a new price of $9,872, BUT it was only good for "now, today". Well, I'm no fool and I know that anytime you hear that,...run!! I told him that since he was my first estimate I still needed to talk with some other companies and do a little more research into the windows and process. We went back and forth for a few minutes and he dropped the price again! This time to $7,068. A full $4,900 less than his initial price! But again, I had to sign then and there or the price was no longer valid. I told him that I didn't care what he dropped the price to I wouldn't sign until I did my due diligence. We left it at that and he asked that I give him a chance before I agreed to anyone else. I told him I would, but I had no intention of using a company with such sell tactics. Here's the kicker, I interviewed a different company a few days later and they recommended the exact same window for my needs. Thier first and only price estimate, $6,175. Much less than Capital. Now to be fair, I think the product is decent. And I can't speak about their installation or customer service. All I'm saying is that I find the sales tactics to be shady and disconcerting. If I had been some little old lady who didn't know much about the business and expected a fair estimate from the salesman, would I have been fleeced of over $5,000? I'm not saying you shouldn't go with Capital (although I wouldn't), but you should interview them at the very last, after you've spoken to several other companies and done your research first. This should save you about $5,000 should you elect to go with them in the end.
Description of Work: Contacted this company for an estimate to replace windows on my townhome. They were able to schedule immediately and even accomodate me later in the evening due to my work hours.
