Description of Work: Replaced 10 windows. The installers were Russian, which were a little difficult to understand. Workmanship was great. Had some questions regarding the install and gaps that would let, but the installers did a fine job of fixing any gaps and the windows look great inside and out. Since the home is older and they scrapped the paint on old windows for lead which tested positive, I had to pay additional fee for lead abatement which consisted of putting down plastic on inside and using caution tape on outside. This is the biggest money maker I have ever seen. |except for the lead abateman, I am very happy with the work. |I liked the window they offered and it's features, if it weren't for the features I would have went with another company due to price.

Description of Work: They engaged contractors to install new windows (good job) and new kitchen counter & tile backsplash. Counter installation was not supervised and the contractors had to be called back for correction, at which point they earned a C. But the travesty of the tile backsplash was unacceptable, no supervision , so professionalism in installers, and almost no responsiveness from the company - we had to call our salesman at home to get them to redo it for 3rd time, and it still is not well done. They brought back the same guy who did a poor job the 2nd time and told us there was no one else. Would never go with them again or recommend them to anyone!

Description of Work: I saw them at a home show and was very interested in their bathroom system that fits right over your current bath. I have 3 bathrooms that are in great need of a face lift. I scheduled an appointment. About an hour before the appointment I got a call that they were running a couple hours behind. I understand that happens. I was home, I had already taken off for the day. However the person proceded to ask me about what all I needed them to look at. After I told him he said "Thats all would you like us to cook and clean while we are there?" I was offended but laughed it off. A few hours later I got a call that the person coming out wouldn't make it after all he had gotten ill. Not very happy I had taken a day off work. The manager apologized and offered me a credit to reschedule. So I agreed that could happen and I rescheduled. This time I made the appointment for after work. Glad I did. Once again less than an hour before my appointment I got a call. They needed to reschedule because it was going to snow. Which wasnt suppose to be and didnt occur until that early the next morning. My husband was very angry. He was upset with their lack of professionlism. He made a very valid point that if we were having that much trouble having them offer a sale. How much harder might it be to get the work done after we paid. So even though he was dead set against it I really like the product I had seen at the home show. So I rescheduled.Once again I made the appointment for after work. Glad I did. This time, even though I had a confirmation the day before, they didnt show up and I didnt even get a phone call. I guess they already have enough business.

I scheduled to get an estimate on 2 bathrooms that need remodeling due to long term water leaks from previous owners. I scheduled 10 days out, got a phone call the night before saying they could come right then, I said due to dinner and children's homework that wouldn't work. So she confirmed for the next day at 2PM. I get another call the day of the appt at 12:30 to again confirm and this time it is a guy on the phone who insists that both homeowners need to be there or they won't come out. I told him that I was never informed of this and that we couldn't do business with them if we both had to be there. It is my job to ferret out the solutions for house issues. he was rude and abrupt and when I asked, 'Are you canceling on me?' He said in a snotty way 'You're the one who's canceling'. He is fully aware I am on Angie's list and was rude, inflexible and unreliable any way. It is a high pressure sales tactic to require the presence of both spouses and it should have been made clear at the appt set up and at the first confermation call the night before. CONSUMERS BEWARE.

We are still working out some issues. As per the contract, they had to take out the old faucets and put new faucets, and right now, they are missing some parts and I have to do the job myself. The shower faucet was put in incorrectly but they resolved it. The shower is leaking downstairs and they are still working on it. When they were doing the plumbing work, they got upset because I was watching at what they were doing. They said that they had people to do all kinds of remodeling work, but for electrical work, they hired a contractor.

Everything went well. They did it quickly and neatly, and it seemed to make a big difference on the noise coming in. I am not sure about the change in my energy bill, but I was very happy with them. It was a good value, and I felt that the windows worked well. I had some people clean the house who put the windows back in incorrectly, and they came back out to fix them. They really stand behind their product. They offer a triple lifetime warranty, which I thought was valuable as well. I was happy with their work, and would use them again.

Work should have been completed by extension, 6/6/09. Not done yet. Still have wrong faucet. Can't open upper cabinet and use ceiling fan. No circuit breaker on outlet near sink. Reported the company to the Better Business Bureau. Capital is blaming me for delays. It seems they cashed my checks and that is the end of it. I paid 27,000 plus.

I needed to replace the windows in my house and I scheduled a free estimate with Jim from Capital Remodeling. When Jim arrived the first thing he did was sit down with me to discuss the windows that they install. He explained that the windows are custom build to match the size and style of my existing windows and that the windows are built with insulated frames and a special UV coating. I included images of a new window and the energy star sticker on it. It was really informative and gave me a good basis to compare windows from other companies. He also told me about some discounts that I was eligible to receive. After he was done giving me the details on the windows he measured my windows and provided me an estimate. The estimate covered the windows and the installation with the guarantee that this would be what I would pay. Well I decided to hire them can four weeks later my windows arrived to be installed. Two men worked to install my eleven windows, removing the old frame, installing the new frame, covering any exposed wood with vinyl, and caulking every seam. They started 8am and finished around 3pm and they cleaned up everything. A few days after the installation I was contacted by Capital Remodeling to arrange payment. I didn't feel like arranging a line of credit through my bank so I used the financing they provided which was a 72 month loan at 15% interest.
Description of Work: I needed to have all the windows in my house replaced because they were drafty and many were jammed. Capital Remodeling provided me with a free estimate and I decided to hire them. They installed custom windows that were the same size as my existing windows and provided financing for everything. The price they gave me during the estimate was the final price.

My blinds had fallen down and they told me how to do it on my own without calling them back. They also do windows, siding, kitchens and roofing, but they just did windows on my new town house for me. They were clean, wore the booties, they came and measured. They called and told me when they were coming and when they were here, they were very efficient. I have 7 windows and they did all of them, they also gave me a quote on a sliding glass door. I will use them again, probably to do my basement slider.

I first contacted the manufacturer who asked for a serial number and proof of purchase. I contacted Capital Remodeling dozens of times to secure this information since the faucet was part of the installation they performed. My messages were ignored and I was routed to other people who were dead ends. I finally got the phone number of their corporate office in Maryland. I spoke with someone who said they would help, although they could not provide the warranty information I sought. They sent someone out to look at the faucet, then set up an appointment for one of their installers to replace the faucet at their expense. No one ever came on the date scheduled, March 19, 2008. They never bothered to reschedule after I called to report that no one ever arrived for the appointment. It is now May 2008. I'm going to have to buy another faucet and pay for the installation at my own expense. My next remodeling project is my bathroom. Needless to say, I will be choosing a different company.
Description of Work: Capital Remodeling (Virginia office) replaced my kitchen cabinets, countertops, and sink in February 2005. My kitchen faucet broke off in November 2007 while it was still under warranty. When I turn on my faucet, an arc of water shoots across the room dampening everything in its path.

I myself called them back on August 8th asking the reason for needing a copy of a certified check, my initial contact was with Rachel and her reason was because I was denied credit. It wasn't a credit related issue, this was always to be a cash payment. Once I said that to Rachel she responded with "Oh your right, this is a cash payment." She read a section from the contract that stated bounced, return, post dated checks, or credit, if Capitol deems it necessary. I agree to show proof of balance in form of check, or money order made out to Capitol Remodeling.
Description of Work: I signed a contract on June 23rd, where I agreed to have work completed on August 30th, they had me put 1/3 of the cost down, which I had no problem doing. They called me on July 23rd and asked if they could set an earlier date for installation and we agreed to August 16th. The balance was due upon completion of the job, on August 7th my husband received a call from Capitol informing him that we need to send a copy of a certified check of payment, and they also told us they would now do the work on the 30th after the they received this instead of the new date August 16th.

Response from Capital Remodeling Inc
Capital Remodeling, Inc. and the members entered into an agreement to replace windows on 6/23/07. As per the contract that was signed by the members, proof of balance is a provision of the contract that is to be presented to Capital Remodeling, Inc. at least ten days before the install. Capital Remodeling, Inc. agrees to proceed with the contract without proof of balance at this time and agree to the desired resolution presented by the members with one small change. NO money is to be given to Capital Remodeling, Inc. up front before the product is installed but proof of balance for the full amount in the form of a cashier's check is to be presented to the installers when they arrive on site for the window installation. Once proof of balance is shown to the installers, the install may proceed and once the job is complete and the members are satisfied with the project as per the contract, the balance is to be then given to the installers.

The only thing I disliked about their service was that I originally had security bars in place and they wanted to charge me $1600 to put them back after the installation. I do like the quality of the windows and on the outside they put a piece of vinyl to drain off water to the outside.

After having three previous window companies come out and give estimates, it was pretty obvious after Capital Remodeling walked in the door that we'd get our windows through them. We knew what we were looking for and they had it. Price was within our range. Install date was set up for 6 weeks out, but much to our surprise they called two weeks prior to install to see if they could come earlier, like the next day. So we got our windows earlier than expected! The install guys did an excellent job and we are really enjoying the new windows.
