Jeff Krieger and Brandon Crone II arrived as scheduled on 8/19/2016 to install a stainless steel chimney cap and flues. They were professionals in every sense of the word and finished the project ahead of schedule. The quality of their work speaks for itself and neighbors have already noticed the "new look" of my chimney. I am really pleased with everyone that I've dealt with at Brothers Services Company. Outstanding folks to work with and quality professionals that get the job done right. I would recommend this company to anyone needing chimney repairs.

From the original meeting to the provision of options Brothers did a good, top notch professional job. Adam and Dereck did all the work on a very steep, difficult roof. They did their jobs very well and worked in some very tough weather conditions. They cleaned the worksite every day and we are quite happy with the job they did.

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the service we received from Brothers Service from our initial contact with Ryan the sales person through the completion of the job. The sales person was very professional throughout the process. Debbie Dewan in the office kept us informed of the schedule for the services being performed and she was very helpful in solving an issue with the scope of services. Todd Mason and Phil did an excellent job in repairing the chimney. They kept us informed throughout the process and completed the services within the established timelines.. The two gentlemen who did the drywall repair also did an outstanding job. The repaired wall could not be distinguished from the original walls. Both work teams left the premises clean and neat. All signs of repairs were removed and you could not tell any work was performed. We would highly recommend Brothers Services to anyone looking for the type of work they provide.

I am extremely pleased with Brothers Services Company and the masonry repairs that were done today. Kudos to Mason Todd Fowble and his helper Phil Martindale, the folks who did these repairs. They arrived ahead of schedule, completed the job, took before/after pictures of the chimney, and reviewed in detail with me exactly what they had done. These gentlemen were professionals and I would recommended Brothers Services Company to anyone needing chimney/masonry repairs.

I thought finding a reputable roofing contractor, that could simultaneously install new attic insulation, would be easy. With the roof off, what better time to blow in attic insulation than when attic access would be eased by removing some decking material? I soon found that finding reputable contractors, who could do both, wasn?t easy. Fortunately I located Brothers Services, Inc. (BSI). But I thought I (in the DC suburbs) was out of their territory (Baltimore). Sure glad I was wrong. I couldn?t be happier with the roof and attic insulation installed by BSI. From the initial estimate meeting to job completion, everything was perfect. An efficient crew, supervised by Brandon Crone, arrived early in the morning and soon had tarps surrounding the house to catch debris. After the old roofing material had been removed, the insulation crew arrived. Adam & Derek soon were blowing insulation into the attic through openings created by removing a couple of roof decking sheets. While that was happening, the supply truck arrived and off-loaded the roofing material. Once that was done, the roofing crew began installing the new roof on both the house and two garden sheds. Brandon installed new shed roof framing where it had rotted and the project continued without missing a beat. The entire job was perfectly timed and coordinated. By 4PM, everything was cleaned up (including the thousands of nails that are a natural by-product of this type of work). Other than the beautiful new roof, there was no evidence that a few hours earlier a busy group of professionals had been installing a new roof and attic insulation. Later, I became concerned about the style of ridge vent they used on my project and mentioned this, in passing, to the company. Soon, Brandon and Ben Alsop were at the house, addressing my issue. To say I?ve been impressed with BSI?s work and customer service is an understatement. Hmmm, I need a guest bath remodeled?I think I?ll give them a call.
Description of Work: Installed a new roof and blown-in attic insulation
I just want to highlight the great work done by the Brother's team. I had my chimney repaired by Todd Fowble and Phil Martindale. They were great masons. They went out of their way to match the bricks as best they could. They always cleaned up afterwards and informed me along the way as to what they needed to do and why. TJ Rath and Richie Garcia did a great job repairing my deck. The tree that fell on my house really chewed up my deck. They replaced the boards and went beyond what I expected them to do. They truly tried to make sure I was pleased with their work. Mike Cox and Mark Richard were exemplary in their repair of the gutters. The fallen tree had really messed up my siding and gutters and now you can't tell it was ever affected. Brothers had previously installed a new roof, siding and windows three years ago so I, of course, called them to repair the damage done. Thank you Brothers!

The estimator came and told me removing my skylight would be a small job about $300 - $400. After he looked at the skylight and took pictures he came back and told me it would cost $877.00. When I asked why, he said it would take 6-7 hours. I signed the contract. I signed the contract trusting that this correct. When the installers came on July 16th I asked them how long it would take and they said 1 hour. I was shocked since the estimater told me 6-7 hours and charged me labor for the time he quoted me. I called Brothers and spoke with the manager who told me there was nothing he would do. I was a past customer and told that to him. He did not care and said they absolutely would not do anything. I do not recommend Brothers to anyone. To be quoted and charged for labor that was not needed and not rectifying the situation is cheating the customer.

Every person that we had contact with always showed up on time and was very courteous. The estimate was about in the middle of the quotes that we received. not the cheapest but not the most expensive. Brothers Services Roofing tore off the old shingles, disposed of them, and replaced with new shingles; installed drip edges at the eaves; reflashed the aluminum sided chimney; drysheeted the roof deck; replaced one of the pipe collars with a lifetime collar; and installed an ice and water shield around the pipe collar. They thoroughly cleaned up using a magnetic roller to pick up excess nails and removed all debris. We were surprised at the short amount of time that it took to do all the work, less than a day. They were done in about five or so hours and worked straight thru except for a short break when it rained a while. I think they took their lunch break in the truck while it rained. They completed the job in a timely manner. We're pleased with their work, would use them for future project(s), and would recommend them to friends and neighbors.

Brothers Services Company replaced my neighbor's roof and loved the work they did so I gave them a call. This happened after another company, Superior Design and Restoration, came door to door asking to inspect roofs due to high winds in the area. They looked at my roof and said I definitely had damage and needed the roof replaced. After my insurance company, Erie Insurance, inspected the roof, they said I had minimal damage they would would not cover roof replacement. The next day, I received a certified letter threatening to drop my coverage if I did not have the roof completely replaced. I was a customer for over 25 years and this was not the way to treat a long time customer. I called three companies and Brothers Services stood out from the rest. Randy Bird was outstanding in every step of the way. After going up on the roof, he said I had no wind damage and he also went into the attic. No other company did that. When he put together the proposal, he came over the house to explain every detail. No one else did that. Jason Delawder was excellent in explaining the timeline before the work was done. The crew that did the actual work was on time and had a supervisor. They were efficient and were done by 2pm that same day. I would highly recommend Brothers Services Company!

Brothers is very responsive and punctual. They had "repaired Ice damming" in 2010 after significant snowfall that season, from the exact same area, so I called them back. They said their repairs had held. However, they did not investigate further into the cause of our leak and suggested replacing the entire roof at a cost of $30,000. They told us we could do the back half of the roof since that is where the problem would be. I asked since they had installed the original roof for 30 years in 1995, why would it need to be replaced 10 years EARLY???? They claimed the sun and some other nonsense. Aren't most roofs in the direct sun? They did not want to look to find the actual problem and instead wanted to move me to an entire roof repair. When I asked as well if they could replace the drywall that had soaked and started to fall inside, they responded that they couldn't because it was at the ceiling line (26 feet) and they would have to paint the whole ceiling. They wouldn't just patch the area around the problem - yet when I had to file a homeowners claim in 2010 they managed to repair the ceiling and paint it too. I am very turned off of Brother's at this point. I am not sure now that the problem I had in 2010 was even what they said it was. They are certainly not swindlers but they aren't as thorough as they should be and I think judging by the neighborhood you are in they will get as much as they can for a project, even if it isn't needed. The other company I wound up bringing out just to check it out quoted me less that Brothers had for the back half to do the entire roof, but actually determined that it was a small area and could fix it for 1500. So thanks Brothers, for wanting to charge me 20x that amount.

Long, long process and story. In August, a very nice salesman came out, spent time, crawled all over everything and took pictures. Since we were having several things done, over the next few weeks, several other folks came out to inspect, measure, etc. First guy came back a few weeks later with a beautiful book showing the problems and proposing a solution with a few different estimates. We agreed on a plan and paid the down payment. We didn't want to start right away, as we needed my husband's bonus to pay off the balance and we usually receive that at the end of September, so I wanted them to start late September, early October. November rolls around and no contact, so I called. Turns out a disgruntled employee left, but not before hiding some paperwork under a blotter and that included our stuff. OK, stuff happens. The Friday before they were finally ready to start at the end of November, beginning of December, nice guy comes out again to go over the final plan and contract, but wants us to sign a waiver to release them of the waterproof guarantee for part of the roof. I'm sorry, but for $80K, no guarantee?! Part of the roof didn't have a steep enough grade to guarantee the product that they planned to use. Ok, so what do we have to do to guarantee the darn thing won't leak? Upgrade the material - $2-3,000 more dollars. Ok, not happy, but at this price already, what is a little more, still why wasn't this discussed before? Finally get started. Well, of course by this time the weather didn't help, so it was a long install. Workers were nice, punctual. Oh, by the way, the upgraded material needed to be ordered, so roof removed and reapplied except for that one area, which sat covered for 3 weeks or so waiting for the new material. Meanwhile, storms, wind, rain and the stress of expecting a leak. Fortunately none materialized, but I haven't been in the crawl space to verify. Rotten eaves replaced and painted, gutter guys found another area after the fact - thank you for pointing it out, but took me calling the main office to get it fixed. Finally finished, but paint and nails everywhere and holes left in a few places where old downspouts were removed. Even the gutter guys commented on all the nails - wanted me to make sure I didn't let the dogs walk around the front yard. One area on back of house looked like the edge of the roof that flows into the gutters wasn't right (gap noticed). Foreman came out to do walk through and receive final payment, concerns discussed, apology made, promise to repair holes and clean up made, turns out gap at eaves at back of house was not part of the proposal. Well, why the heck not! We did absolutely everything else that needed to be done, why wasn't this brought up before? Neither my husband or I recall ever discussing not doing that section. We are not that type. If it needs to be done, do it while you are here! Estimate for fixing that part is only $800, 1% of our overall cost. They did finally come back to fill the downspout holes, but the yard was never cleaned up, I'm still finding bits and pieces and it is almost July. Overall, I think the workmanship was just fine, maybe even very good, but the communication was terrible. Each part is a different crew and it really felt like there wasn't one conductor overseeing everything. They did send us a $500 gift card, but I would rather have had the back section fixed along with everything else and my yard cleaned up. Never did hear from the original salesman again.......

Punctual ,very professional and knowlegable. Provided a very comprehensive proposal featuring exactly what I had been asking for. Took time to carefully review the proposal in person. Too bad the price was way off base. They did seem like a top rate organization. I had received other quotes for the same job eanging from 30,000 to 47,000. This was the highest so far.
Description of Work: Provided estimate for roof replacement.
We love them. The guy who came out and did our estimate each time was Matt Kelly. For the big major work, the customer care manager was a guy named Jon Reisler. All these people we get by going in through the front door for some major number and they have very organized greeting people who direct everything and send us somebody who comes out to look at everything so we get different people each time. The last time they came was when they did minor work on the doorknob and the rule was that they had to charge for a minimum of 2 hours. He had a lot of time left after that and asked if he can do anything else for us. I told him we had a question about the dryer vent which should have been worked on years and years ago and he climbed up and went to our entire attic even though he wasn't the guy who does that stuff and figured out what was going on for me without adding on an extra charge. They are good.
Description of Work: Brothers Services Co. did major work on our house and then came back again and did blowing insulation into the attic, and came back again just to help me change the lock on our door. They do everything. They replaced the siding on our house and that was more than a handyman project. On the other hand, they will come for any project that takes less than 2 hours or up to 2 hours. They provide everything. I don't think they would build a house from scratch but everything else you can do to a house and roofing, which he didn't do for us but they replaced the chimney.

I contacted Brothers for a quote on adding a sun room and redoing an existing deck. they responded by phone, asked me to send pictures of the area and they would get back to me. They emailed a quote that was more that twice the other four quotes we received and never bothered to come out and see the area or ask about any specifics of the job, such as sun room size, two, three or four season, deck size, deck material. I don't understand how a quote can be made without this information. - Sounded like a worst case guestimate. BTW -found a contractor, provided exactly what we wanted for 1/3 the cost , completed the job on budget and in the estimated three weeks. AND the sunroof and deck are beautiful!

Response from Brothers Services Company
In response to the claim made by [Member name removed], many of his claims are completely inaccurate or totally false. [Member name removed] called us to get an estimate on various improvements to their home. We never spoke with her husband [Member name removed]. We had an extensive conversation with [Member name removed] in which she detailed, from her perspective, the scope of work, including measurements, existing site conditions, and desired improvements. As a practice, we typically have detailed phone conversations with our customers who are considering home improvement projects of a larger scope, before we conduct a site visit. Through years of successfully performing home improvement projects, we have found that we are able to accomplish far more at a field meeting if we possess a thorough understanding of the project before we arrive at the site. That also allows us to provide the customer with a rough price estimate prior to the site visit. Due to the volume of jobs we perform, we are able to pretty accurately determine the costs of a job based off of a thorough description of the scope of the work to be performed. Our customers are typically very appreciative of this process. We provided [Member name removed] with a verbal estimate predicated on the information she provided to us. That estimate was provided with a caveat that it was subject to change based on actual site conditions, including the determination of structural considerations. [Member name removed] said she would get back to us to schedule a site visit once she conferred with her husband. That never happened. We maintain extremely reasonable profit margins. We performed over 2,000 jobs last year. It is not logical that we would perform as many jobs if we were twice as costly as others in the industry, as [Member name removed] suggests. We strongly suspect that the scope of work described to us by [Member name removed] was not the same scope of work which the [Member name removed] ultimately had performed by another contractor.

I paid Brothers Services a lot of money to install a new roof. I agreed to this amount for the reasons that I simply wanted a contractor that could be trusted, a contractor who would do the job correctly when no one is looking, a contractor who would treat my home like their own, a contractor just like the ones mention in the TV commercials. While working on my roof an employee of Brothers Services slipped off the rafter. The fall ripped out the insulation and put a large hole thru my living room ceiling. The Brothers Services site manager promptly installed new drywall. However, when I asked the Brothers Services site manager if he put new insulation in, Brothers Services site manager said the old insulation was shoved back into the hole. I told the Brothers Services site manager to put the insulation in correctly; the Brothers Services site manager replied this was only a temporary fix until the drywaller can be scheduled to do the job correctly at a later date. Several days later the same Brothers Services site manager ?a roofer? came back to finish the drywall work. I asked the Brothers Services site manager once more if he had the new insulation and for a second time the Brothers Services site manager insisted that he had installed the insulation in correctly and that the old insulation was fine and new insulation was not needed. In fact the Brothers Services site manager tried hard to persuade me to let him finish the drywall work because, to reopen the ceiling (to do the job in correctly) would create a big mess in my home. Days later the ceiling was reopened by Brothers Services and needless to say the Brothers Services site manager hadn?t put any insulation in at all, not even the old insulation was shoved back into the whole as the Brothers Services site manager had claimed. This the worst type of person to do work in a homeowner?s home, for about $10.00 in material and 2-minutes in time to do the job correctly. This employee knowingly omitted fundamental element in the correct completion of the repair (a repair caused solely by Brothers Services), then lied to the homeowner about doing the job correctly. There is no telling what could bring into being 2 or 4 years later. Perhaps, nesting of small animals or mold growing between the rafters, whatever it would bring, would be of a great unnecessary expense to the homeowner. I paid Brothers Services a lot of money not to send incompetent and deceitful employees to my home. I paid this amount because I didn?t want to go through the stress and aggravation experienced with other contractor in the past. The Brothers Services site manager?s attempt to sabotage my home and the job is simply outrageous behavior that no one should have to put up with. This was not what I expected nor is it what I paid for. I cannot and will not recommend Brothers Services for even the smallest type of work. P.S. And after all of that, Brothers Services painted my ceiling the wrong color. This is all over $10.00 in extra materials which was too expensive for Brothers Services to purchase to do the job correctly the first time! Brothers Serveries set appointment and the Project Manager shows up to ?sand the drywall and apply a 2nd coat of mud on the repair" See Attached Email So, you say you?re puzzled about the negative reviews? Brothers Services Vice President states the possibility of negative reviews, and welching on agreement one (1) day afterwards. Now he says he?s puzzled of the negative reviews. Incredible!! See Attached Email FYI: For the past 6-months I spoke to several neighborhood community groups to insure a clear understand of my experiences with Brothers Services. You should see the look of outrage and discuss on their faces as I tell how the Project Manager tried to sabotage my home and the damage it would have cause if not found. Then, I tell them it was you Brothers Services their mouths pop open wide and their eyes budge out, I get this reaction every time. I even have handouts to substantiate my experience. So you?re not puzzled for a second time. This Spring I?ll be talking to your Competitors! I also attached a photo of your painter?s work you so proudly speak of. Brothers Services are holding over $1,6000.00 in lost wages hostage, they ask that I not say anything about the work performed, say I was happy with the work and that I pay the balance due first. All of which was done as stated by Brothers Services but continue not to pay what is Past Due

During the installation of (removed member name) roof, a member of our roofing crew lost his balance and fell, causing a hole in (removed member name) ceiling. This is one of the hazards of roofing that can happen, but thankfully it is rare. As is our standard procedure, our onsite Project Manager performed an emergency repair to prevent further damage to (removed member name) home. Subsequently, we scheduled a drywall and painting crew to properly and permanently repair the damaged ceiling. After the work was complete, (removed member name) stated he was pleased with the roof replacement project and satisfied with the ceiling repair and repainting. (removed member name) then authorized final payment. Now, six months later, (removed member name) is posting a negative and inaccurate summary of his experience. We’re completely puzzled by this, since we performed all of the work stipulated by our contract and repaired the damages resulting from the unfortunate accident that occurred.

It was a lot of work and they did a really good job. Pricing was good and they are highly regarded.
Description of Work: They did the roof and they replaced the downspout and they illuminated the fascia. They did not put a new roof in. They changed the bad tiles as part of the maintenance work.

These guys were GREAT!! When we got the original quote, they were not the cheapest but they were a lot lower than the highest. It seems like each company representative wants to give you a quick education on roofing, the hard part is to figure out what is fact and what is fiction. Brothers said many of the same things as the others, but pointed out some things in the fine print that most of us would not read -- things that would void the warranty if not done properly. Guess what?? The other guys were not doing it properly. The thought of a 40 year, 50 year or even lifetime warranty sounds great, but what happens when you file that claim 30+ years from now only to discover that your roofing was not properly installed and your claim is denied?? Brothers was fair and not at all pushy. Some companies give you a "buy it now" price that is quite a bit less than if you decide to wait. Don't be stupid - there is a reason they want you to sign up right then and there. I called Brothers a few times after receiving our quote because I had questions. They were answered quickly and again with no pressure to sign the contract. Biggest surprise of all?? The final pricing came in almost $1000 less than we were originally quoted. We did not need as much plywood replaced as we had factored into the price. I never would have known and they could have just kept the money. It is so hard to find someone you trust to do work these days, and I can say without a doubt that Brothers is one of those rare finds that you want to hold on to in case you need anything in the future. Last but not least, when they arrived, our house was covered with tarps from roof to ground so nothing would tear a screen or squash our flowers. I have seen other roofing jobs and can tell you they don't do half of what Brothers did to protect my house and yard. When they were done and gone, I could not find any evidence that they had been there except for our great looking new roof!! Thank you Brothers, we will highly recommend you to our friends, neighbors and family. You truly provide a level of customer service that is not often seen any more.

They were patient with us through the process of evaluating which siding plan we wanted to implement. The different job managers were very communicative and professional throughout the project. The finished job looks wonderful and our neighbors say it looks like we have a new house!

We stopped by the Brothers showroom in Columbia, MD to get some ideas for remodeling our master bath. Walked away with an appointment to have someone come by to give us an estimate. We were given a three hour window (11 AM to 1 PM) for the estimator to arrive. At 1:10 PM the day of the meeting the estimator called to say he was on his way and was nearly one hour away. Once he arrived (an hour late for the three hour window!) I spent about 90 minutes walking him through the project and discussing what we'd like done. We then setup a follow-up meeting two weeks later to review what I though would be an actual cost estimate. During those two weeks I received no further communications to confirm any project details. This meeting was set for 10:00 AM and the estimator called at 10:02 AM to state he was about 45 minutes away. Based on the punctuality of the estimator it was clear that the value of my time was of no importance to this firm. While on the phone I stated I had another appointment later that morning and I asked the estimator if he could just email me their proposal and we could discuss it on the phone. He then revealed that he did not have any cost figures, but that this latest meeting was to discuss what we had already covered so that another person could come by at a later time to do a full inspection. It would only be after that time that we would receive a cost estimate. In other words, I would need to devote 9 to 10 hours of my time (much of it waiting for someone to show up late) in three separate meetings before I even knew what they planned to charge for the work. All this for relatively simple work to remove a vanity, sink-top, toilet, bathtub, and floor & wall tiles for a 6 x 10 foot bathroom. A separate quote was requested to install new sheetrock in tub area and install a new tub and plumbing for the tub. No other work was requested. In contrast, three other contractors were able to provide estimates after one meeting and a couple of emails to confirm the details. I had selected Brothers based on some positive Angie's List reviews and their overall marketing efforts (TV spots, local showroom, etc.). Unfortunately they are very cumbersome to work with, they appear to have a lot of extra overhead costs, and they do not seem to value punctuality nor their customers' time. Not recommended.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate to perform demolition work in preparation to remodel master bathroom. They were late for two separate appointments and it would take at least three meetings or more just to get a cost estimate. We halted further communications because they were just too cumbersome to work with. Their argument was that they wanted to understand our needs and get it right, but this was a very simple job that did not need hours and hours of discussion to develop a project scope and proposal.

Response from Brothers Services Company
We pride ourselves on our reputation for punctuality on all appointments we schedule, we apologize that our consultant was late on 2 occasions. In performing an internal review this was more a reflection of a very busy schedule for this particular consultant than either trending pattern for our company as a whole. We appreciate the fact that he did reach out to the customer and advise him that he would be late, however it does not minimize the inconvenience placed on the customer. In discussing this situation with the client there appears to be a miscommunication as well. Our consultant was prepared to present some cost figures during his second appointment, the customer asked for the "estimate" to be e-mailed. Our almost 30 years of serving home owners has taught us that is best for the customer to have any remodeling project proposal presented in person, this allows for a clear presentation of the size and scope of the project. This allows plenty of opportunity for all partied involved in the project to ask questions and seek 100% clarity of the project, this just cannot be achieved through an e-mailed "estimate". We recognized we did fall short of this customer's expectations by being on late for 2 scheduled appointments and have addressed this issue with our scheduling and sales teams.
