I first contacted Brothers in August 2011 to get an estimate to have the work on the floors done. The person, who came to provide the estimate, Chuck, was very friendly and prompt. We discussed everything I wanted done to the floors in detail. He asked if I had considered remodeling the kitchen so we discussed that too. He took measurements of all of the rooms and took pictures of the kitchen. We agreed that he would give me two separate estimates, one for the floors and one for the kitchen. A week or so later he provided me two estimates. I noted that the estimates did not accurately describe the work to be done. He told me not to worry; he would be on the job and would ensure everything we discussed would be done. We met again in September for me to sign the contracts and to review the plans for the kitchen and for me to pick out the kitchen cabinets. I asked when they would be able to start and he said in early October and he would get back to me with a start date. In mid October I had not heard back from him, so I called him and left a message. A very nice woman called me back and said they wouldn't be starting until early to mid November. In mid November I still did not have a start date and had not heard back from Brothers, so I called again and left a message. Finally, towards the end of November they called and gave me a start date, Monday December 5th. On the morning of December 5th, I received a call from Brothers that the entire crew was out sick and they would not be there that day, but someone would be there on the 6th. On the morning of the sixth one guy showed up and he could hardly walk because he threw his back out. He stayed about an hour and tore up about six vinyl tiles. The next day, December 7th, no one showed up, so I called and left a message. I received a call the morning of the 8th and was informed that two people were on their way, but no one showed up, so I called again and left a message. I received a call on the morning of the 9th and was informed that someone named Eric would be there at 8:30 a.m. Eric did show up, but he had no clue what he was supposed to do. I explained what was supposed to be done. He got about 1/3 of the vinyl flooring torn up that day. Monday, December 12th, Chuck finally showed up on the job to help Eric tear out the kitchen cabinets and remove the appliances. This is when Chuck informed me he was leaving Brothers to start his own business, but he would be there till the job was done. Oh by the way, I forgot to mention I was told that the whole job would only take a few weeks. That's how the job started and it only got worse. Everything that was torn out of the kitchen was moved out on to my deck. My contract said that all debris would be removed daily; it took a month for Brothers to remove the stuff from my deck and that was only because I complained about it several times. On the 13th Eric extended the wall between the kitchen and family room and it looked awful; it was not plum. On the 14th Kitchens by QBI came to install the new cabinets, but couldn't because the work on the wall wasn't done and the texture had not been removed from the kitchen ceiling. Chuck decided it would be easier to cover the ceiling with drywall instead of removing the textured ceiling. The new drywall looked terrible, the holes for the lights did not match up exactly and weren't round and the drywall was cut too short in many places. I told Chuck it looked terrible and he said not to worry they would fix it. He asked if I would like to have crown molding in the dining room and kitchen. I agreed to the crown molding. On the 15th Kitchens by QBI came back to install the cabinets, unfortunately the wall did not get fixed before they installed the cabinets. Over the next few days, Eric finished working on the ceiling; he didn't bother putting up plastic and I ended up with drywall dust everywhere. He also finished tearing up the vinyl flooring and the carpeting and was ready to install the slate tile. Eric and I discussed how the slate tile was to be installed and he began installing it. He laid the tile in the bathroom crooked and it had to be torn up, unfortunately, there weren't enough slate tiles to redo the bathroom and I couldn't get any more of it. So he laid wood flooring which I didn't really want. Eric somehow managed to knock my 30 day school house pendulum clock off of the wall in the family room and didn't even let me know about it. He just hung it back up on the wall. When I notice it was broken I asked him about it and he said he accidently hit it with the broom handle and broke the glass and that he was looking for new glass for it. I asked if it fell to the floor and he finally admitted that it had. I took it to a clock shop to find out how much it would cost to get it fixed. It was going to cost over $300 to get it fixed, about $50 more that what it was worth before it was broken. Not only was the glass broken, but the wooden box was cracked and the stem for the hands was bent. Chuck replaced the seal plate at the front door and messed it up; it was too high and I could hardly get the door open and shut. By the time it was fixed the door was messed up by being forced open and closed and it still doesn't shut right. Eric started to lay the engineered wood flooring which was being glued down. He messed this up too. There was supposed to be a 6 inch border around the tile, but since Eric didn't feel like cutting the tile in some places he left no room for the border and in other places it was less than six inches. The corners of the wood border were supposed to be cut at 45 degree angles, but he left them straight with the ends butted together. He didn't put enough glue down in the kitchen and along some of the border. The floor popped and move when you walked across it. I complained to Chuck about it and his supervisor Dave came out to look at what had been done. We discussed what would be done to correct the floor. Chuck said he would find slate tile for the bathroom to match the other slate tile. Dave marked all of the places the floor needed to be fixed. Eric tore up the wood flooring he laid in the bathroom. Chuck and Eric removed the border and ended up having to cut the tile to make room for the 6 inch border. The border was relayed with the corners cut at a 45 degree angle. Eric started laying the floor in the living room and dining room. He was almost done and he ran out of wood flooring. I went out of town for a few days, when I got back I found a piece of glass and a pill on the floor. I set them on the table and was going to say something to Eric in the morning, but he came late. When I got home at the end of the day, the glass and pill were gone. Eric had knocked a basket of supplements off the table and one of the bottles broke. He swept up the mess and didn't say a thing about it. By this time it was January and Chuck was gone. Eric picked up more wood flooring, twice. He finally finished the floor in the living room and dining room and moved the furniture back. This was the firsts I was actually able to look at the floors in those rooms. What I saw was not good. There where gaps between a lot of the board and in some places he filled the gaps with the putty I bought to fill nail holes in the shoe molding around the fire place. Needless to say I was not happy. I took some pictures and emailed them to Dave. Dave pulled Eric off the job and sent two new guys, Jeff and Steve, to fix the floors. They ended up having Dave and someone else come out and look at the floors. They all agreed the only thing that could be done was tear up the baseboard and flooring in the living room and dining room, and in the kitchen too since it still hadn't been fixed. More wood flooring was ordered; it was out of stock and on backorder. I made a list of everything that was not right or not finished; it was quite a lengthy list. Over the next two months Jeff and Steve worked on redoing the floors, including the bathroom floor, and correcting/finishing everything on the list I gave them. When I originally talked with Chuck about what I wanted done, I said I didn't want shoe molding unless it was needed. I had the same discussion with Dave when he came out to look at the floor. Both times it was agreed that the shoe molding would be installed if it was needed; I would purchase it and Brothers would install it no extra charge. When the floors were finally done, it was apparent shoe molding was needed. I mentioned this to Jeff and Steve who relayed it to Dave. Dave told them they weren't installing shoe molding. When they finally finished everything on my list, Jeff gave me a business card with a dollar amount on the back. Josh asked him to give it to me; he said it was what I owed. I didn't agree with the amount written on the business card, so I tried called Dave to talk to him about it and about the shoe molding; I got his voice mail and left him a message, but he didn't call me back. I called again a few days later and spoke with Josh. He said he would talk to Dave. A few days later I receive a not so friendly email from Dave that said they weren't installing the shoe molding, they were done, I owed them money, and how much I owed. I agreed with this amount. I called Dave again and got his voice mail, so I sent him an email stating I agreed with what he said I owed, but they still needed to install shoe molding. Several days later, Dave sent me another email stating they had done everything they were contracted to do and then some and that they were not installing the shoe molding, the contact said they were to install new wood molding and they installed wood baseboard which fulfilled the contract. I sent another email to Dave stating I disagreed with him but I was going to pay them, but would not do business with them again or recommend them to anyone. Brothers did buy me a new clock and reimbursed me for the bottle of supplements.
Description of Work: I had two contracts with Brothers Services Co. One contract was for the removal and replacement all of the flooring on my first floor. My house is on a concrete slab. The flooring in the family room, kitchen, hallway, foyer, half bath, and laundry room was vinyl/linoleum (individual glued down squares) and the flooring in the dining room and kitchen was carpet. The old flooring in the foyer, hallway, half bath, and laundry room was being replaced with black slate tile with a six inch engineering hardwood border. The old flooring in the kitchen, family room, dining room, and living room was being replaced with engineering hardwood. All of the baseboard was being removed and replaced with new 6 inch baseboard. I was provided the slate tile, engineered hardwood, and baseboard. The toilet and vanity were also being removed and a new toilet and pedestal sink which I provided were being installed. The other contract was for the removal and replacement of my kitchen cabinets and appliances, extending the wall between the kitchen and family room by 2 feet, and removal of the texture on the kitchen and dining room ceiling. The installation of the new kitchen cabinets and counter top was subcontracted by Brothers Services Co to Kitchens by QBI. The cabinets, counter top, and sink were purchased through Kitchens by QBI. I provided the new appliances.

Good Morning, My name is Michael Tich and I am the Director of Sales at Brothers Services. I would like to first let you know that I have met with Dave M at my office and have talked about your job. Part of the issue is that Chuck no longer works at Brothers and much of this was what he verbally told you. Without Chuck, we are left to look at the contract. In looking at the contract, we have exceeded what we were to do. If the quality is a problem, we will stand behind it 100%. Please give me a call to discuss. Mike Tich 443-507-1021
They weren't the cheapest. However they were neat and immaculate. I couldn't even tell that they were here when they left. They were on time every day, and did high quality work. I felt everything went perfectly, and they went above and beyond.
Description of Work: They replaced roofing, siding, windows, gutters, and our front door.

I contacted Brothers for and estimate to up date my existing deck and build a new lower deck. The Tech came out at the date and time scheduled. The meeting went very well. The tech said he was going to training so it may be a week before I received an estimate. Plus they wanted to draw a conceptual design. I received a follow-up call from the office several days later to ask if I had received an estimate. I told them I hadn't. They said they would have the tech contact me.He didn't. I called him 3 times and the office 1 time. It has been 39 days and I still have not heard from the Tech. Very disappointing.

We could not be happier with the entire process of initial consultation through to completion of the job with Brothers Services. The salesman went through multiple meetings and renderings of the new entry door and consulted with Provia several times to ensure we would be delighted with the new appearance of the front entry. The job foreman then came out to take the measurements to ensure the new windows and door system would fit perfectly. We needed most of the work completed prior to year end to obtain the Federal energy credit. Our selection process took us into early December before the orders could be placed. To meet our deadline, Brothers hired a truck to transport the windows from the factory as the factory transport service shut down with the impending Christmas holidays. The installation crew arrived exactly on time each day. They were extremely courteous, committed to excellent installation and kept my home completely clean as they went from room to room with the installation. All precautions were taken to ensure nothing was damaged. We were also consulted with several times each day to ensure we were completely satisified with the on-going work. We will have Brothers Services back to replace the remaining doors and windows. After the terrific experience, we fully trust Brothers Services with our replacement/remodeling projects. Our Provia entry door and Owings Corning V-Class windows have already made our home warmer. We will also be using these products for the remaining windows and doors.
Description of Work: Brothers Services replaced approximately half of the windows on our home with Owings Corning V-Class Solace windows. They also helped us select a new Provia entry door system which required reframing the existing entry to accomodate an 8 foot door and sidelites and removal of a transom window. They also installed new locks on two other entry doors.

Overall the roof is fine, but the lack of response to our phone calls and e-mails is frustrating.
Description of Work: The company did a good job of replacing our roof, however, they have yet to come back and replace the siding that was broken during the job. They have not responded to our e-mails or phone calls. It has been 2 months of trying to get a hold of them and no response. I don't consider the job complete until they replace what was broken during the service.

We had a storm last night and the problem was much improved. I have already referred them to a friend. They actually came out early because they had someone else cancel. This was great because you never know when you'll have bad weather. I also like how they made sure the right person came out to look at my problem who was familiar with the issue I was having instead of just sending out anyone.
Description of Work: I was having trouble with water cascading down the house. It was even worse when it snowed and I had a lot of ice bridging. They put in a special kind of foam so that the gutters are covered but water would still run in them without it running over the gutter. So they replaced a section of the gutter and put the gutter protection stuff on it.

I really, REALLY wanted to like Brothers Services. They came so highly recommended on Angie's List and from other real-world people that I was anxious to give them a try. My repair involved the cornice of my roof (decorative sill at the front of some older homes) and rebuilding a fallen terrace. I called and spoke with some very pleasant women there and my appointment was set for Good Friday, April 22, 2011. Brothers called to confirm the appointment and to also confirm that I would be at home. Later in the week, my service tech called to confirm the date/time and gave me his cell phone number. Great! Except he did not ring the doorbell or call to let me know he was there, so I had no idea if he'd actually come out that day. (Granted, you can see all the necessary repairs from outside the house and roof access is provided via the fire escape that is welded to the ground, but I took off from work to be at home for the estimate.) I called the office to ask if my tech was still coming and was informed that he had already come and gone and they would contact me with an estimate within a few days. I also called the tech on his cell phone and he also said he'd been there and was off to another appointment. One month later, still no estimate. I call the office again and speak with the several people at the office who assure me that Jonathan, my service tech, would give me a call back. Nothing. I call Jonathan and leave a message on his cell. Still nothing. More time goes by and before I realize it, it's been over 60 days with no estimate! I'm still calling and leaving messages and sending emails, so I am clearly still interested in the service, right? Finally, I get a call from Jonathan after leaving several more voicemail messages from him when his mailbox wasn't full. He tells me that I need an architectural survey done and that that is a service they do not normally provide, but it will cost around $5k. And this must be done before they can do their and quot;estimatedand quot; $10-15k worth of work. So at this point, I express my utter disappointment to Jonathan for taking over 90 days to get me this information. And to tell me that I need to spend a ton of $$ BEFORE they can even come out and do their and quot;estimatedand quot; work. and lt;sighand gt; Yeah, complete disappointment. I still feel like I'd worried everyone at Brothers Services enough that they were fine without my business and therefore just gave me an enormous estimate to get rid of me. And it worked. I'm glad so many others can give them great reviews and I wish I could've done the same. The personnel were friendly and even the tech was personable, but somewhere I no longer mattered as a potential customer and it showed.
Description of Work: My repair estimate involved the cornice of my roof (decorative sill at the front of some older homes) and rebuilding a small 5'x3' fallen terrace on the 3rd floor at the front of the house.

Brother's Services came highly recommended from Angie's list. After consultations with 5 different contractors, none of whom were able to figure out the damage to our roof, we were pleased to speak with a contractor/sales rep who actually knew what he was looking at when he looked at the damage on our roof, recognized how, exactly, we had gotten water in our home, and was able to honestly assess what needed to be done. He was extremely efficient, courteous, and quick in returning a reasonable quote for the replacement of our roof. Although it was the highest cost estimated to us by about 200$, we quickly decided that these guys knew what they were doing and that we would like them to replace our roof. Once the contract was signed and the deposit paid, things slowed down. What was suppsed to be a 5-7 day window for someone to schedule the job ended up taking two weeks, and then the scheduled date was the LAST possible day to complete the work, contractually. The day of the job, however, we were pleased; the crew that came out to do the work did a great job with the roof. When they were preparing to leave after completing their work, a ladder was dropped and broke my neighbor's flag, shattered a cap to his front railing, and splintered part of the steps. The job director was quick to address the flag and the cap -- within two hours, he had replaced them. The steps, however, required masonry work, which took more time. Despite numerous calls from us and our neighbors, it took almost 3 months for Brothers to come out to fix the damage to the porch. The work was finally done - my neighbor's porch was fixed, but it took an awfully long time to complete the process!

They came when scheduled to review my roof. I asked for an estimate for repair and replacement. Never got the estimate. I called the estimator.s cell phone and left a message asking for the estimate. I have met with our two estimators that were at the jobsite. When they got to the house there was a tarp on the roof tied into an electric line. This was a very dangerous situation. The tarp was incorrectly put up by another contractor. We let the homeowner know that our tarp fee to properly tarp the house was around $425. Which includes two tarps and the installation. The homeowner told us she would call her insurance company. We were not going to measure the roof with the tarps connected to a live wire. Please have the customer call me if there are any questions. My home was in need of a total roof replacement. Jesse Cuthbert of Brothers Services came out and gave me a thorough and professional visual and written estimate. He explained the advantages of getting the Smart Vent system installed with the roof. I had an estimate from another company but they failed to leave a written estimate. Jesse went so far as to tell me to be sure to have other companies replace wood before getting gutters installed. He never tried to secure any other work beyond the roofing project. I liked the confidence that Jesse exuded just by telling me certain things about my roof and other non- related projects that I will be getting done in the future. Jesse even showed me photos (on his laptop) of a before and after roofing project done on an end of group home in Dundalk. He assured me that the process to install my roof will be exactly like the viewed photos. During the contract signing, Jesse was patient, professional, and thorough with reviewing the whole process. The project manager ( I apologize for forgetting his name) had a very professional crew. They were diligent and efficient. I was told that some replacement wood would cost me one price, but upon further review I was told that the damage wasn' t that severe. The honesty of the manager saved me money. The clean up process was excellent! The project manager and a worker even went into my neighbor's yard to collect any wayward debris. Overall, I found the working relationship with Brothers Services to be pleasant and professional at every turn. This Business is top of the line. Thanks! Sincerely, Mark G. Maxfield

I kept calling them and they said they would come out and they just never came. This happened several times, but their excuse was "we never wrote you down."
Description of Work: They were supposed to come out and give me an estimate.

In the spring we had a very bad rain and wind storm which blew off a 4 foot piece vent on my roof. I noticed the big hole in my roof at about 5pm on a Friday and was in a panic trying to find a roofer to come fix my roof as there were more storms in the forcast. My neighbor recommended Brothers and in a frenzy I gave them a call. The woman on the phone was very nice and explained she didn't think she could get someone there that day. She had me hold for a few minutes letting me know she was trying all her resourses to find someone. Sure enough she found one of her people that could come out and would be to my home in about 45 minutes. The tech called me a few minutes later to say he had to stop and pick up the part and he'd be here within 30 minutes. The tech showed up on time and repaired the roof in about 45 minutes. Couldn't be more relieved and happier. Thanks Brothers.
Description of Work: Needed emergency service to repair a vent in my roof.

When the team finally arrived 2 days AFTER the agreed upon dates, the lead indicated he was a siding and roofing guy and did not do detail wood work. His and quot;helperand quot; said he has been working for Brothers for about a month, he worked in a grocery store prior to that. So they spent three days repairing small sections of straight boards and painting, but did not do the front door and window. After I contacted the company on several occasions, to inlude a very rude and quot;managerand quot; named Dave, who did not return my call, I had to keep calling back until I caught him in his office, still no solution. So I contacted the and quot;salesmanand quot; again and told him I wanted to talk to him about the door and window. He said the materials were not included in his first estimateI so said I would work with him regarding the MATERIALS (even though I did not have to) since the contract said ALL WOOD - after all any consumer would know ALL WOOD is ALL WOOD. So they sent me another estimate for the door and window --I assumed for the materials -but when I read it they wanted $1,400 more to fix the small wood areas around my front door and windows!! I had 3 companies do estimates before selecting Brothers and all included ALL WOOD (to include the door and window area) and were around the same price before this new $1400 additional cost to do something they already contracted to do. So SOME WOOD on the exterior of my house has been repiared and painted in rather poor quality (photos also available of the terrible joints and poor paint work upon request) not ALL WOOD like the contract states so now I have no choice but to seek legal recourse. Also, when I got home and inspected the work they did complete there were still countless areas where it looked like a thin coat of white wash, not paint on the wood that they did do. This is even after the second day when I pointed out some areas that were poor quality, they only covered up the specific areas I pointed to they did not even do a quality control inspection of all of their work. So in my opinion they did not live up to their obligations and then wanted me to pay $1400 more to finish work we originally contracted. While I had hoped to work out a reasonable solution to get the work done -- Brother's, in my opinion did not meet expectations. I read the company's rebuttals on previous bad reviews so I guess they will try to belittle my input. But I have the contracts, photos and expert opinions related to their perforrmance on this job --- clearly not what I expected for my $5,500.
Description of Work: Stay Away From This Company --- I contracted them to repair and paint the exterior wood trim of my house. The estimate came in and says in the contract ALL WOOD. When the two guys came out (after rescheduling on their part from their committed date) they indicated they were not doing the areas around the front door and front window. They said they did not have the right wood or skills to do such detail work. The contract indicates repair and paint ALL WOOD (quote from the contract). This company tried to say the wood trim around my front door and window was not part of ALL WOOD (but who would contract a company to repair and paint all the wood trim EXCEPT the front door and window area??). I will gladly provide copies of the original contract (and additional cost proposal upon request).

I thought pricing was good. They were professional , gave us a good quote and then they arranged for the roofers to come. They came and finished the work in a day and cleaned up and did a great job.
Description of Work: They replaced 2 skylights and re-roofed a section of the roof.

gutter repair, replacement windows

Brothers installed windows along with new siding and gutters. I have to say that until the end result, I was getting frustrated with the company. I had to have a lot of back and forth conversations with the office and the person in charge of the window department. But, once the day came to get the windows, I was very happy. The installers were great. Very friendly, cleaned up after themselves and did amazing work. The windows look outstanding. One window grid was wrong and Brothers replaced it without cost to me. They also did very nice trim work on the brick outside of the windows and on the inside of the house. I had them back once to make a few adjustments and now everything works perfect. They did a nice job with the gutters and downspouts, too. Price is a bit higher than others, but it is worth it for the quality of work and the quality of the windows (Owens Corning). When I see some of the window work being done at the homes of my neighbors, I can see the difference in workmanship and it doesn't come close to Brothers. Neighbors with new gutters and downspouts installed by other companies are already having issues with them coming lose and falling down. Even with the frustration, I'm glad I hired them.
Description of Work: Brothers installed windows along with new siding and gutters. For the windows they installed a 3 panel slider door, a 2 panel slider door, 2 casement windows, a slider window and a combo slider/stationary window.

I originally got an estimate from Brothers which was very much higher than other companies. After telling them what our bottom line would be, they came within a few hundred dollars and we were able to work together. Getting to the end result was often frustrating. The salesman wrote some things up wrong in the contract and left some things out, work was delayed a couple of weeks. I would defintely recommend watching and going over every detail with the siding supervisor. Have him come to your house to look at things with you, he's great and he knows what needs to be done and will make sure it gets done. When the siding and other work by the siding crew was done, I was extremely happy. The crew was great. They were very neat, didn't trample any plants, cleaned up after themselves and did fast work even in very hot weather. Their attention to detail was outstanding. They also consulted me on a couple of things that could be done different ways to see what I liked best. All of the townhouses in our neighborhood had to get new siding and I'm one of the last to get it. I can see the difference between my house and many others, little details like having caulking that matches the siding, using better insulation under the siding and other things make it all look outstanding. Even with the frustration, I am very glad that I had Brothers do the work for me. Paying a little more is worth it for the quality of work you receive from them..
Description of Work: Install vinyl siding, soffits, door surround and window headers, paint front door and install other accesories to a townhouse. They also did windows and gutters which I rated in another post.

Since roof shingles needed to be removed and replaced with new shingles after the fan was installed, I wanted an experienced roofing company to do the work. The price was higher than I expected, but I'd rather pay a bit more now than risk a faulty installation which results in a leak. The two man crew who did the installation were polite, professional, and took my old fan and shingles with them. If it ever rains again I'll let you know if there's a leak.
Description of Work: They installed a solar attic fan I had purchased seperately.

No work was done, they were not hired due to price and the lack of professionalism by the sales person.
Description of Work: Sales guy came out to provide an estimate. Was very knowledgable about the product and measuring our roof. Where he fell way short was his chatting skills. He was very impressed with himself, wife, family, etc.. once the roofing info was presented to us. He was at our house for 2.5 hours and talked more about everything else except roofing. We told him we were getting other estimates. He called back several times and we told him we were still in the process of making a decision. Once we had made the decision and I was about to call him, he called me first. When I said we decided to go with another company and told him the name, he started bad mouthing that company (who has an excellent reputation on Angie's List and actually a better customer comments page than Brothers Roofing). Then he became very unprofessional by bringing up his brother. (He had told us his brother was some big wig in management and sales and if my husband ever needed a job, he could hook him up with his big wig brother.) He started going on about helping my husband in the future, and he really thought we would choose him because his brother could really help my husband out in the future with a job. My husband has a great job, great boss, and is very happy where he is working. His voice changed over the phone and he was getting angry, so I quickly got off the phone. Bottom line is, the company who did do our roof, DWM Roofing, did such an exceptional job, we joke around the house about how easy the whole process was and will the next contractor that does work on our house measure up. Our feeling is, probably not, since DWM and their crew have been unmatched in everything they did from start to finish at our home !!!!!!!
