Description of Work: I found this service provider on Angie's List and contacted him to do some masonry repair work on steps and the front brick wall of my house. We spoke on May 21st and I followed up with an email and pictures of some of the brick area needing repair. I specifically asked Michael to please let me know when he saw the job whether or not he was interested in doing the work. I followed up with another email on May 28th asking for his quote and haven't heard a word from him. This has wasted more than 2 weeks of my time!!!!! He is very unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

Description of Work: The experience, from start to finish, was a great one. I had lots of problems with my brick stairs. The owner returned my email the same day and was out to look at the stairs within days. The work was done on time and was done cleanly and without any issues at all. I will certainly use them again.

Description of Work: I've been emailing him back and forth since 5/27/15. The last few times he did not reply. He said he would come and give me an estimate on my steps but it never materialized. I would rather hear "I'm too busy right now to give you an estimate".

Description of Work: My front steps needed to be re-pointed. Mr Breslin called me promptly and came by at a very convenient hour in order to assess the job. He was able to give me a quote right then and there. He also noticed that the last time somebody had attempted to re-point the steps they used the wrong color cement and the job was very poorly done. Probably by the past homeowner. He removed that cement and repointed with the right color cement and the job was absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend Mr. Breslin and would have him do masonry work at my house again in the future.

Response from Breslin Masonry
I regret that I might be unable to provide this customer with the service that he is looking for. His attempt to contact me via email was not successful as his message was delivered to my junk inbox. This is an unusual occurence for an Angies List Request. I was taken aback by this customer's unhappiness largely because I had never seen his name or his request for contact. I take pride in distinguishing myself from other contractors by responding to every request for contact. I have a record of well-earned customer satisfaction. This may be a kind of cautionary tale to other prospective customers to not rely so heavily on the impersonal nature of email. Sound business principles are rooted in personal contact, communication, and the intention to connect with each other. In this respect this failure to connect is most regrettable because it was entirely avoidable and could have been easily handled by simply placing a phone call. I invite this customer to initiate contact again if he wishes. I am supremely confident in my ability to perform any kind of masonry work that this customer should need. Moreover, my commitment to good customer relations ensures that there is clarity, integrity, and the highest standards of professionalism in every project that I do. Sincerly Michael Breslin

Easy to contact and arrange for a quick visit to determine the extent of work required. Received a cost estimate within one day. Very prompt scheduling to satisfy the settlement deadline. Showed up on time with all the necessary materials, ladders, and tools. A skilled masonry craftsman who was completely knowledgeable about what was needed to satisfactory complete the job, Baltimore City permits and job site and traffic requirements. Placed tarps to protect sidewalk and porch. Did an outstanding job. Thoroughly cleaned up after job completion. Superior contractor.
Description of Work: Repointed mortar joints on the front of a Federal Hill house on a very narrow street with a confined work space in response to home inspection report with a very tight settlement deadline.

Overall it went very well with no surprises.
Description of Work: Mike rebuilt the brick top of our front porch and tore down and rebuilt a brick step for the porch. Also, he demolished two sections of side walk and poured and finished new ones. The work was excellent and looks great. We are selling the house and I am sure his work helped to give a good impression to the buyers. The realtors have had people asking them for the name of the contractor who did the work. He is a nice guy and gave me the impression of someone who is honest in his dealings with people.

They were professional and we plan on using them. It is an indoor project so we are waiting for a rainy day because it will be cheaper. They were knowledgeable and they worked with us on the options and prices.

The yard areas were pointed up first. Since we had just agreed on pointing up the 'worst' areas, it's all relative so we worked together to determine where he would grind out the joints and make repairs. Afterward I asked him to address several additional areas I felt were in need of help which he took care of without complaint. The mortar he used matches the rest of the yard and the repaired areas were done professionally and give me confidence that they'll hold up for years to come. The caps Mike helped pick out were Tennessee sandstone and really dress up the rock porch area. The caps look great and will help protect the flagstone pillars underneath them. Mike had to make cuts on several pieces of the sandstone to match specific angles on the wall that was capped. Unfortunately, his saw broke partway through, which set him back a few days getting it repaired. The glass block and surrounding brick were used to replace some jalicy windows that were in bad shape. the corner window area is now solid and helps support the weight of the porch properly. The brick matches the porch and looks absolutely fantastic. Thanks for all the great work Mike, we'll do business again soon!
Description of Work: I had Mike install some replacement caps for several rock pillars and walls around my back porch, install glass block windows in three areas under the porch, and point up the worst spots in my flagstone yard and porch with fresh mortar.

Michael met me to look at the job and discuss what we wanted done. I explained to him that we wanted the most urgent areas done immediately with the hopes of repointing the entire front of the building in the next 1-2 years. We just didn't have the budget to do it this year. He talked with me for almost 45 minutes, and I was impressed with his knowledge and investment in the job. He came up with an estimate that was very reasonable and provided me with a couple of references that checked out. Everyone said that he was a "craftsman" and did excellent work. He took a while to start the job, and then he proceeded very piecemeal until it was "finished." Technically, he fulfilled his contract, but I was not impressed with his work ethic, his communication, and the quality of the work was fine. He seemed to be a lot of talk and not much work. He even filled in some mortar on the front of the building where we have marble instead of brick, but used the same red/brown mortar that he used for the brick! It looked messy and was not at all what I would have expected from a "craftsman." He also erected a scaffold, but never moved the scaffold to work underneath two of the three windows on the second floor. Now, he told me that the other bricks didn't need immediate attention, but after seeing how he worked, it made me wonder if he just didn't want to take the time and effort to move his scaffold. All in all, the work he did was fine, but I was very disappointed with the fact that he did not work full days and was off a couple of times for "personal" reasons. He just wasn't very reliable. He did eventually change the mortar color on the marble, but it took him a WEEK to come back and do it. We don't fee comfortable hiring him again.
Description of Work: We asked Michael to take care of some brickwork on the front of our building in Bolton Hill. There were several areas on the front of the building where the mortar was missing or in bad shape. There were also several cracked bricks in need of being replaced.

My experience with them was great. He is a nice christian man. He is very nice and very, very quiet. He was just starting out at the time and desperate for work. He was very inexpensive at that time. He has integrity. He is very honest, almost too honest, and not a jerk. He is a very religious man.

My house is 24 years old. The front 1 step porch is brick as is the walkway. Years of ice and rain had caused the ledge of the front porch to come loose; bricks had just fallen off. Mike removed the whole first row and the support row of bricks underneath (which were old, flaking and deteriorating) and replaced them. He also ground out all of the joints in the brick walkway, matched the custom color grout and redid all of the joint work. The bluestone patio is is 10 years old. Mike is the contractor who built the patio (like a piece of art). A few of the stones on the edges were loose. He removed them., cleaned the foundation underneath, put down new cement, reset the stones and redid the mortar joints. He also redid the mortar joints between the stone bench slabs and fixed the angled brick over the garage doors. He did the work for 1/2 of what the other estimates were. He is very quiet but very meticulous and artful in his masonry work. Totally honest and on the level; hardworking.
Description of Work: The brick ledge of my 24 year old brick porch had come off. The brick sidewalk had much of the mortar joint missing. There were some loose stones on the bluestone patio.
