Can't say enough good things about Mike Breslin, owner of Breslin Masonry. He was recommended by Harting & Sons Building Supply. I saw some of his work in pictures and around Baltimore and hired him. Mike was on time, professional and his workmanship was amazing. I was thrilled with how the wall turned out, it was better than I ever expected and hoped. Highly recommend Mike.

Mr. Breslin brought mortar samples out to match the existing mortar and came out a second time to do the job. Both times arriving as promised. The new mortar seams are an exact match to the older work and as Fall now approaches, the mice will be forced to try and find another way in. Success all around !
Description of Work: I needed a seam mortared closed in my home's brick veneer that mice were using to gain access to my attic.

Mr. Breslin responded to my inquiry within a day or two and visited my home within another day or two to give me an estimate. He emailed an estimate shortly after his visit and was able to fit my project into his schedule the following week. I appreciated his professionalism, written estimate, and punctuality. He was very reliable and did a wonderful job on the project. His estimate was a little bit higher than another estimate that I received, which is why I gave him a B, but he really did quality work and sometimes it's better to pay a bit more to get the job done right! I will definitely use him again for future projects.

Mr. Breslin came and looked at the job and emailed me a price that I agreed to pay. After a number of attempts to contact him about scheduling the work he gave ma a date to which I agreed. I asked him the confirm the start a week before the date to which he agreed to do. However, he did not fulfill this commitment so over the four days before the agreed to date I sent him a number of text messages and called him to confirm the start date. He responded to none of them and when the agreed to date arrived he was a no show! Unprofessional and inconsiderate are the two best things I can say about him.
Description of Work: The work consisted of relaying the brick landing at my front door and repointing the remainder of the steps.

Called and he returned my call 2 weeks later. He said he would come and take a look at my job ( I only live 10 minutes away) and would call me when he was coming out. Three weeks without a call. I called again and left a message. Again no response. Took my business elsewhere.

Michael was professional, thorough, and knowledgeable. Our home is an older brick home, he knew just the right mortar for the job and did a fantastic job repointing our home. The wall looks gorgeous, the new mortar blends seamlessly with the old. I would highly recommend Michael for any masonry project and will use him again should the need ever arise again without hesitation.

We received 4 quotes for this work and Michael was the most thorough when he came out for the estimate. We felt that he seemed more knowledgeable because of this and had greater trust in his quality of workmanship. The project ended up taking three days and Michael showed up on time every day. There was a little bit of lack of communication regarding what days the work would be done, but overall it went smoothly and the schedule worked out fine. Micheal was very professional and comfortable to work with, which was the reason we decided to have him do the work in the first place. Michael cleaned up the space when he left each day. The completed work looks professional and he did a nice job matching the bricks to our existing brick siding. Overall the experience was very positive and I would recommend Breslin Masonry.
Description of Work: The work included grinding out and repointing failed mortar joints, removing an existing steel lintel, installing a new lintel, installing PVC flashing over the lintel, installing weep holes, and resetting bricks.

It went great ! We had 3 solutions offered to fix the entrance which included having to make up for the steps having settled to create a too high for code top step. One offer was for covering steps with pavers, priced at over 4,000.00 and not including covering the sides. The bricks on the sides were the ones with holes showing that are concrete filled - quite ugly. The second proposal was to remove the brick rows on the landing, cut down some of the concrete center of the landing and rebuild that top layer with a slightly pitched layer which would bring the height of the last step into the house to the code required height. Again there was no replacement of the side bricks. Michael said the only answer he had was to remove and replace at a price of $2,250.00, about the same as proposal #2. Michael was right. The steps look great and the sides are now solid brick, much more attractive and all is now up to code. He was timely, punctual, and the job was done in about a week with weather knocking out a couple of days. I'd recommend Michael Breslin with great confidence based on what he accomplished for us and would not hesitate to use his services again.

I left a message for Breslin Masonry on Saturday 3/5 telling them we needed repairs on the brick surrounding our fireplace. The owner (Michael) called the next evening (Sunday 3/6) when we were out. He left a message. When I returned his call the following morning (Monday 3/7), Michael asked me to send pictures of the fireplace. He said he would review them and contact me to come out for an estimate. As soon as we hung up, I took pictures and texted them to him. When I didn't hear back in a couple of days, I left a voice message asking if anything else was needed and asking him to call. If Michael wasn't interested in our job (for whatever reason), it would have been polite to let us know. I'm very disappointed in such unprofessional behavior from a highly rated company.

Response from Breslin Masonry
My apologies to this customer. As a sole proprietor business I am often handling multiple parts of both business and personal life. My customers benefit by the hands on approach that is taken when working with them. A delay of a few days in setting up a meeting with an individual customer can happen, particularly when my practice is to provide a consultation and estimate at no charge. I prefer to combine trips to an area to hold down costs whenever possible. It is not appropriate to list here the reasons for the delay this customer has experienced. I agree that remaining in contact is highly important in business and in other more personal matters. I hold open the possibility that I can work with this customer and am certain that they will be highly pleased with the work. Again, I apologize for any hardship that I have caused . Sincerely, Michael Breslin Breslin Masonry

It's clear that Michael Breslin loves his work. From the very first (and prompt) returned phone call, his care and craftsmanship shone through. He listened to what we were looking for and was engaged and interested in our project. Before he arrived (promptly), he had walked around the neighborhood to get a sense of the surrounding architectural styles. He helped us decide on a design that would harmonize with our neighborhood overall, our ca.-1900 brick row house in general, and its particular brick and stone work in particular. Then Michael recommended specific brick and stone companies so that we could match our materials in person, which was important to us, and look at locally sourced as well as imported stone. (He matched the tinted mortar on his own!) Aesthetically and practically, the result was fantastic. Walking up and down our steps is, as Michael had said it should be, "a mindless delight": They're so even and comfortable that you don't even think about what you're doing. There's literally no need to "watch your step." Also, Michael communicated clearly and consistently throughout the project. We're delighted. People stop us on the sidewalk to compliment our steps!
Description of Work: Built lovely front steps to harmonize with our ca.-1900 row house: First demolished existing, rickety wooden front steps. Then crafted a flight of five brick steps, with limestone treads, from existing concrete landing to wooden front porch. Final piece of connecting light carpentry (basically one board, and one piece of rounded trim) required a separate carpenter for a couple of hours' work, which Michael explained upfront.

Mike was very responsive the entire time, from the initial contact through the completion of the work. His price was very competitive, not the cheapest but close to it. The work looks very high quality, with the new pointing work blending in nicely with the existing. We haven't had much rain so I can't comment on how well the water is kept out of the house. More on that later. The worksite was kept very clean and organized the entire time. I have a second chimney that will need the same work, and I expect to contract with Mike on that in the fall. 9/21/15 Update Plenty of rain to test the work done by Mike back in May. Everything looks good and the leaking has been stopped. Very pleased with the work Mike did for us.

Michael did a great job rebuilding the steps. Brick joints are well pointed. Michael found a brick color that came close to the color of the brick on the house which is 60 years old. Hard to do since bricks are natural products. It worked out very well.

Mr. Breslin responded quickly, looked at front step and provided estimate. After several other contractors were consulted it was decided to go with Mr. Breslin's suggestions as to what needed to be done. Though he had to work around the weather, the project was completed in a timely manner. Quality of work was excellent considering our request to keep the railing that was in lace on the old front porch. Would highly recommend.

Very well. Michael Breslin worked with us on our needs and came up with a very good solution. The bricks (almost tera cotta tiles, really) are probably 80+ years old and are no longer available, so doing the job without breaking them was paramount. Michael figured out a way to do the repointing with minimal breakage of the tiles. Where the existing mortar was loose he removed that by hand, but in some places where the tiles wouldn't budge it required grinding it out with a circular saw He leveled a couple sections of the walk that had heaved up over the years and straightened a section of the walk that had spread out. It looks great now, and we've received numerous compliments from neighbors on how great it looks. It took a while to get the job scheduled (early summer) because this is his busy season, but MIchael came exactly when he said he would, both for the estimate and to do the job. I'd definitely recommend him and use his services again.
