MidAtlantic Deck and Fence surprised me - a good way - from the first day they came out to give me an estimate. Steve met me at my house and worked up an estimate, all while making suggestions for how to make it look as nice as possible and maximize the size of the enclosure while staying within budget. The cost he worked up ended up being slightly higher than my other two estimates from other companies. I was very impressed however with Steve's attention to detail and his honesty about the company. Also the fact that they are a local company and not a national chain earned them a few brownie points too. I mentioned to him that he was higher than two competitors. He rounded the total price down so that it matched my mid-priced estimate. Ultimately, I went with MidAtlantic. They were willing to bring their price down in order to be competitive in my decision making process, the information and detail that Steve used with drawing up the estimate was much more thorough than the other estimates, and I just had a really good feeling about them. Before work could start, we had to wait for our Home Owners Association to approve the design. After that paperwork came back, we were able to schedule the work. They had estimated 2 days for the work. Here's where they surprised me again. They showed up early on Friday morning, got to work right away, and when I came back to the house that evening, they were completely finished and cleaned everything up. They finished a day ahead of schedule, and it looks amazing. I can't say enough good things about the quality of the workmanship.

Even though they were about 8% higher in price for similar (although maybe not completely apples-apples) suppliers, we went with MAD&F because of their customer service marks here and in other review forums. Not much significant to report - quote was a little slow in arriving but not terribly slow. Originally scheduled for May 9 - moved up to April 29 because I guess they got ahead of schedule. Work crew arrived at exactly 8am as predicted and started immediately. Great team work was apparent throughout the day. I think they were done and cleaned up and gone by 2pm.

The cost was okay. They were efficient and they did the job as described. It came down to the quote for the scope of the work that needed to be done and they were able to get it done in a day.

My experience with them was excellent. This is a four storey condo building. Our building had a trash crown put up which is the place where they keep the recycling. It was about 12 feet by 15 feet. I was in charge of arranging it. They even gave me the $100 discount from Angie's List even though we were an organization.

Not interested in this company when other estimates are free.

Their customer service was great. They completed the entire job- removing the old fence and putting up the new within one day. They left extra fence caps for me to use just in case I needed them. We had great communication. They weren’t the cheapest option, but they were wonderful to work with.

Mid-Atlantic did a great job, they were always in communication with me from beginning to end. Everyone did a great job and worked with my budget. They even matched a competitor in order so that they could complete both my deck and fence. Everyone was quick and professional. both the deck and fence look better then I had hoped. I've already recommend them to friends and will use them again in the future.

The work was done quickly and very professionally. The job was expected to be done in a single day, but the team had to come back on a 2nd day, which was no trouble at all. They did a very fine job. Their price for "stick built" (totally custom) fence wasn't appreciably more than their competitors who only offered to install pre-built sections of fencing, which would have been a much less satisfactory product. Some competitors actively lied to me during estimates, claiming that no company in the area would give me a "stick built" fence, and insisted that all companies would only install the pre-built sections. My only negative comment is that several of the boards of the fence are already showing signs of age. I was assured that I wouldn't need to weather treat them for a half year or more, but they already show some mildew and discoloration. Additionally, the latch of the gate seems to have shifted and it is quite difficult to lock/unlock the gate. Overall, this is a great company that installed a high quality product at a competitive price.

There were a couple issues that occurred on the date of installation (including the workers coming 3 days earlier and over an hour earlier than I was told), but they installed the fence quickly and it looks great. I did call Mid-Atlantic with a few concerns after the installation was complete, and they sent out their Field Supervisor to come to my house and go over each of my concerns. He was extremely helpful and professional and handled each of my concerns very well. I wish I had been told in advance about one or two things that would have helped installation day be less stressful and I wouldn't have been interrupted so many times throughout the day. But, the fence does look great and they really worked to address each of my concerns which I do appreciate.

It went great! They were very helpful, I needed a particular type of fence which was uncommon for this area. He worked hard to get me what I needed. The installation crew was terrific. Very friendly. They did a good job and went the extra mile. They came back and fixed a couple aesthetic issues I had. They really were great; I was very happy with their service.

We had to wait a while due to the weather but the company installed the fence in one day and the work looks good. My only complaint was that they left a bit of a muddy mess in the driveway when they were done but other than that everything is acceptable and they have indicated that if there are any problems after everything settles they will come make it right.

Overall, doing business with Mid Atlantic was a good experience. What made the sale for us was Steve. We was very personable and helpful. After a brief phone call he took the initiative and sent us a packet of information about composite decks. We appreciated the attentiveness; and because of his extra time spent sending us information, we made the trip out to mid-Atlantic's show room. Steve was very patient with us picking out our decking products and design. We were shopping for deck before our new house was completed, so our ideas went back and forth a bit. Steve responded promptly and professionally with a new design after every discussion. The quote was very reasonable and straightforward. After we decided to hire mid-Atlantic, Steve had to wait two months to get a property layout for permits. This was something we couldn't help due to the new construction timeline, and Steve was very understanding about it. Once we had a site survey, Steve had permits in order very quickly. Within a week of the information, the construction was set to go. The builders arrived promptly and worked quickly. They were watching the weather reports and worked longer hours upfront to get to get the foundational struts in before freezing rain/snow. After a day of work most of the deck was complete, which we are appreciative. Weather permitting, they put up the railings and lighting throughout the rest of the week. The deck is perfect. We love how it looks and enjoy the lights. Two items occurred during construction: building materials on the curb and lighting set-up. Boards were placed at our curb during and shortly after construction. We had concern about the material placement due to snow and plowing in the area. The issue was easily resolved via a phone call and we appreciate their responsiveness. For our lighting solution, we had not fully envisioned what the lighting box would like. The lighting is fully functional and creates a nice environment. Through clarification, we realize the awkward plug is normal, and we can adjust it ourselves to look more appealing. We thank you for a good product, my husband has waited five years to have his own deck. This has satisfied his goal.

Everything went very smoothly and the installers were very knowledgeable and helpful. Very happy with the work that was done and would hire them again in a heartbeat

Price was OK but price per foot for short fence was way way higher than price per foot for a longer fence. So much so that the longer fence was about the same price as for the short fence. I called to talk and someone just said "That is the way it is". I asked for someone else to call but no one ever did.

2 guys came and planned to build the deck in 1 day, which they could have if it wasn't for the decking material that was provided. All material was fine except for the 2x6 decking, which was very knotty, discolored and just plain garbage. The lead guy and the company were very accommodative with finding a solution. We ended up going to Lowe's and purchasing totally clear 5/4 x 6 decking. In the end I was very happy.

The install crew showed up earlier than we figured (7 AM) on and started to remove the old 3 rail split rail fence. They then installed the new 3 rail paddock cedar fence. They finish earlier than the sales person said. He originally said that it might take two days but they were done and cleaned up very well by 4 PM. We are pleased with the fence and the job performed, and the professionalism of the Sales person who gave us all the particulars (price etc.). We would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a new or replacement fence.

Very courteous and professional. Very understanding of the budget. The workers came to house on time, very courteous. Job was completed within time frame. Crew cleaned up and took care not to disrupt the existing shrubs and yard.

Frank showed up on time. He took all the measurements and told me he would fax or email my quote by that evening. I never did hear back from them. I called them due to the ratings on Angies List. I just went back and reread one that stated Frank did not contact them back either. Needless to say, I didn't use them but called two others on angies list that were very responsive and quick with their quotes. In response to your comment (from the company) Frank knew it needed to be fixed but bottom line he never called or faxed me a quote. Bad business I didn't even get an apology

The crew of three arrived early in the morning with a company flatbed truck filled with supplies and one personal truck. They complained that the front flower box hadn't been removed, although that wasn't something I'd discussed with the sales representative. They also complained about a couple of stumps growing along the fence line, but the stumps were small (1 foot tall, less than 1 foot in diameter) rotten, so they were easy to remove. Once they accepted the flower box and stumps, work proceeded quickly, with few additional questions. However, they all left around 2 p.m. One worker returned in his own car around 4 but waited in his car until one other worker returned (also in his own vehicle). He returned around 5:30, after sunset but still with some light in the sky. They finished the job in this minimal light, and the crew leader took me on the tour afterward. That weekend I realized why. They had buried a lot of yard waste and the wood fence debris in the backyard, behind the shed and under a pile of leaves. It was highly unprofessional; the contract stipulated that they would dispose of all waste and the old fence. I had to hire a trash hauler to take away all the items they left behind. Too bad. The salesman was knowledgeable and helpful. The fence itself looks good. The crew really dragged down the overall score for this job.

What a transformation! We had a 20 year plus old stockade put up by previous owner that was worn, and gray, and needed to go! I decided to work with Mike S. @ Mid Atlantic Fence and Deck after meeting with him to discuss our options. Mike was great to work with. He gave me a cost effective plan, and made the process to move forward easy. After getting the necessary permits to do the work, the crew was set to arrive about 3 weeks later. Team leader, Nelson was very professional, and his crew congenial, and hard working. I was impressed by the craftsmanship that went into making the fence. They also used their skills to find good solutions in tight spots. I love the rich color of the cedar, the quality of the wood they used, and the style, all which makes it beautiful! It all went well, and even with a few brief showers, the fence went up in one day. Overall, I would recommend Mid Atlantic Deck and Fence, and I will call them again in the future.

In search of a good deck, fence, and patio company, I called the provider the week of July 22, 2013 (based on their good Angie's List rating), to schedule an estimate at the site of the home my wife and I are building in Montgomery County, Silver Spring, MD. A representative took my call, asked for some information, and had a sales rep named Frank Gibson promptly call me back to schedule the appointment. Frank and I scheduled the appointment for the morning of July 27, 2013. Frank was on time and had earlier given me a call to give me his ETA, which was appreciated. Upon meeting onsite, Frank, my wife, and I discussed various options for the deck, fence, and patio we were envisioning. Frank seemed very knowledgeable and advised us of several things to consider in our selection process (e.g., noting that certain fences would leave gaps at the base where a small dog like one of ours could escape, and what nice, but expensive add-ons could be done later). Frank promised to deliver a quote by the beginning of the following week (the week of July 29). The timing of our project would be mid- to late September. My wife and I left the appointment feeling very good about Frank and his company's ability to potentially deliver something we would like. The week of July 29 came and went. No word from Frank. I followed up with him via e-mail on Monday, August 5. No immediate response. I called his office on Thursday, August 8. A receptionist answered and offered to give me Frank's cell phone number. I told her I already had it. She took my contact information. Shortly thereafter, Frank sent me an e-mail stating the following: "...we will have to pass on the opportunity to build your deck project. Were [sic] based out of A.A. county. We are backed up on projects. We are not taking on any more decks in Montgomery Co. sorry about that hope you understand. Thanks Frank" Needless to say, my wife and I were disappointed to get the update, not only because Frank did not give us any indication that his company would not be able to do the project at our estimate meeting, but also because we had to chase Frank down for the status report. This was a gross error in communication on the provider's part. This news should have been delivered much earlier without us having to follow up and by phone. I sent Frank a reply e-mail expressing our frustration and letting him know we would be letting the Angie's List community know about the poor handling of this situation. He offered this explanation, which somewhat takes the sting out of the situation, but still does not excuse it: "Sorry you dont undettered [sic] [assume he meant "understand"]. We had a meeting in regards to the back log of deck projects. Which was delayed in me responding back to you [sic]. truly weren't trying to take on more than we can handle. So we can keep our reputation. Hopefully you can a [sic] least respect or [sic] dission [assume he meant "decision"]. Once again I apologize for the delayed response. thanks" Let's attribute the typos and grammatical errors to Frank trying to type using a cell phone with small keys. Anyway, these are the facts. Take them for what they're worth. We probably would have never heard back from this provider, but for our follow up.

Great! The sales guy was very knowledgeable about our options and was patient and worked with us through all of our questions. Once we put the deposit down and signed the contract it took several weeks to obtain the permits. That was the longest part of the project. Karen who works in the office there was very helpful. I called her once a week checking on the status and she was very friendly and patient. Once our permits were in place, they placed us on the schedule which was only 1 week out. They delivered the materials on Friday and arrived very early Saturday morning. Tim and Marty (another member of their team was not working that day) got right to work. I am amazed by their efficiency. My husband and I spied on them almost the entire time because we were so impressed on how quickly they were assembling our deck. They finally took a lunch break at 4pm and then came back and finished the deck around 7 or so. Great job during all parts of the process! I will definitely recommend this company to others.

Very quick to respond and seemed professional with a detailed quote but quote price was very expensive.
