Mid-Atlantic Deck & Fence Co

We got estimates from 3 fence contractors back in May. We decided on Mid Atlantic because of references and also had seen a lot of their work from driving around and paying attention to other people's fences. Because we are in a cul-de-sac our yard is an odd shape, and the amount of fencing is more than a typical yard. Ryan was very willing to work with us, and came back several times to measure due to possible change in scope of the project. We finally settled on what exactly we wanted, negotiated a price, and scheduled the work. I was told it would take 1 day, possibly 2. The crew showed up exactly on time and got right to work. The foreman was there and worked out some of the finer details with us while the crew started removing the old fence. The vinyl rails for the basement weren't included with the rest of the materials, but he was able to get them delivered and installed that morning. They worked from 8:30 AM until 8:30 PM and finished the entire project. It looks amazing! It makes the yard look so much nicer, and bigger. They did a great job cleaning up too, we found nothing left behind. All in all it was a great experience working with Mid Atlantic and I'd recommend them to friends/family/coworkers.

Marlowe and his crew arrived at around 7 o'clock am each day. They worked hard and did quality work. I was impressed with how they made sure everything fit together seamlessly. Cleaned up the area when they were .finished. I am very pleased with the end result. One proviso. I highly recommend going over the details of what is to be done and making sure plans agree with what you wanted and where you wanted items. Having an advance copy of the drawing would certainly help to avoid any misunderstandings and extra costs. Would definitely use them again.

The work crew showed up at 8 am as scheduled and finished by noon. The crew was courteous and efficient. The supervisor consulted with me about location. The job was finished in four hours and they cleaned up the area. I would use Mid-Atlantic again.

We are extremely satisfied with the work Mid-Atlantic did! Jon gave us a very professional proposal (unlike the other 2 companies we asked for quotes) then he gave us a great financing option through BB&T, and even gave me extra drawings to appease our HOA. His builders worked EXTREMELY hard, and finished 2 days ahead of schedule.

The estimator, Ryan responded quickly to my request for an estimate. He gave an honest opinion about my options and dd not try to sell me the most expensive fence. His responsiveness and honesty set him apart from his primary competitor. The fence installation went well. The finished product is beautiful and the talk to the subdivision.

I saw an ad for Mid Atlantic Deck & Fence Co so I called for an estimate to install a black aluminum fence around my pool. Steve Crabb came out and was very helpful in all aspects of planning, design, and materials. He was very responsive to all my communications and sent out someone to fix a gate alignment issue (due to ground settling). Fencing went fine. In our opinion, worst deck construction ever for the price paid. Would not ever hire this companyagain. Would never recommend them to anyone.

Prompt with estimate, priced reasonably, Mike Schenck the salesman was very responsive, immediately answering emailed questions even on weekends. He came by twice during construction to be sure everything was going well. Construction crew was on-time and well prepared, brought the correct type and amount of materials, dealt pleasantly and competently with problems (roots, trees, rocks, shells), worked very hard to finish the job in the the estimated time, but also very careful to pay attention to details and to be sure the work was done correctly.

The estimate went very well. Because of my job I was unable to be home to meet with the rep so my wife dealt with him each time he came to the house. I met him once when he stopped by to pick up our down payment. My wife was more than pleased with the estimate and process. The rep was honest, up front and offered suggestions on some placement of the fence to help with blind spots in the back and to save us money. He also obtained the permit for us. The crew showed up on time and got to work ASAP. By the end of the day all but one section of the fence was completed due to the fact that they were short on material. (This is the only part I was upset with) I was left with an approximate 6 foot gap in my fence for 2 days before they were able to come back and finish which was not conducive with my two dogs. Ultimately, the fence was finished and my wife and I (and the dogs) are more than happy. I am probably calling them back for an estimate on adding a deck to my newly fenced back yard. Their fence price beat the next closest price by $1,500.

Fantastic job! The crew actually arrived a little earlier than I thought. Work was done very systematically. They had to remove my old fence and then do new posts, etc. Very personable foreman, nice work, super pleased with the result! So glad I thought to look on Angie's List! (Have even been getting compliments from the neighbors on the great job!)

I solicited two bids, one from Mid-Atlantic Deck & Fence and one from another competitor. The Mid-Atlantic estimator came out as scheduled and provide a detailed written estimate within a couple of days. We selected Mid-Atlantic as low bidder and because of their impressive Angies List performance record. The installation was scheduled at our convenience and we received a call about four days before to confirm the date and time the work would begin. Two men showed up as scheduled and confirmed the fence location prior to beginning. They then installed the fence in about four hours. The job was completed as expected including cleaning up the work site. The fence looks great!

Mike was excellent and very helpful during the planning process working with my neighbors and I to ensure everyone was happy. He helped make sure we followed our community guidelines. The crew was prompt and professional and had to improvise a little due to a foundation issue but they provided a great solution. Overall a job well done!

The Estimator on the original evaluation for the deck replacement was excellent, professional, and completely thorough. Cost: There is an old adage, "you only get what you pay for" - believe me, we got our monies worth as Mid Atlantic Deck and Fence Company did an excellent job. During the evaluation process in seeking a company to do the replacement of our deck, we had several companies that came to give us estimates, and to define the process of replacing the deck. There is no question in our mind, this job was completely thorough from start to finish. The estimate of the deck was NOT the least expensive, but it was certainly worth the extra money. In short, we really got our monies worth. The final result is an excellent example of quality workmanship. We are totally and completely 100% satisfied with our low maintenance, beautiful deck! We are already the talk of our neighborhood about the quality of work. To my knowledge, one of our neighbors has already called for an estimator because they are so pleased with the final result of our deck. We would highly recommend this company to do any deck, fence or other household project. Additionally, the county we reside in required a permit. The deck passed, on the final inspection, with flying colors!

For the must part the installation went smoothly. There were a few things that needed to be adjusted. Such as, there was to much space left between the house and the fence on one side and to much space between the neighbors fence and ours. However it was correctable.

Fences were installed exactly as requested. Job was completed quickly and professionally. Job site was left clean and in order. Crew spread extra soil as requested. Salesman (Mike) explained entire project very clearly and answered our several questions. He was patient and accommodated our needs. Price was also less than other quotes from competitors. The outcome was fabulous! Job is rated A for Awesome!

When I called to schedule an estimate, they said that they were very backed up as it was the start of the summer. The estimator insisted that he could come out and give me an estimate without me there. I received the estimate within a week. It seemed kind of low compared to the other estimates, so I thought that we should meet to discuss. The estimator was late for the meeting. The reason the estimate was so low was because he only quoted me to replace half my currently existing fence. Why would I only want to replace half of my 15 year old, falling apart fence? I feel like he wasted my time, which irritated me. I went with another company.

We talked to two local fencing contractors about replacing our fence. Both seemed to be good choices, but we went with Mid-Atlantic because a) their estimator/sales guy was very responsive when we contacted him with follow-up questions, b) they gave us a good price on installing a cedar fence, and c) they thought they could do the job in two days as opposed to three or four. They couldn't do the job right away (summer backlog), but they let us know several days in advance when they were coming. The fencing crew was both professional and methodical. The foreman went over the fence layout plan with me to make sure he understood what we wanted (since the new fence was going to cover a smaller area than the old one). The fact that the utility company had failed to come and mark the underground wires didn't throw things off-schedule: they simply called the office to get that taken care of and worked on removing the old fence and setting the lines for the new one. Any time they had a question about how something should be done, like whether we wanted the fence gates to be arched or not or to swing inward or outward, they asked (I work from home, so I was available to them): I appreciated the care they took to get it right. They worked from 9am to dusk (almost 8pm) the first day, returned the second day around 8am, and were done around 3:30pm the second day. The fence looks incredible. Overall, it was a great, stress-free experience with an outcome I couldn't be happier with, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to add or replace a fence.

I got three estimates on this backyard fence job and went with Mid-Atlantic. Their representative (Frank) came out first and the level and depth of information he shared allowed me to better evaluate the subsequent vendor proposals. Their bid was slightly more expensive, but certainly within a reasonable range. Everything went well with the installation. My yard posed several challenges (a large grape vine that sat upon the fence, a neighbor's tree trunk along the property line...) and the install crew (with Eric in the lead position) came up with smart solutions. The crew worked hard and were pleasant to deal with. I will recommend them to friends (as I am now!) and check with them later in the year when I'm ready for a new deck!

The guys arrived on time and worked diligently until complete. They were patient while I asked questions and was very willing to install the fence to my satisfaction (evenness, height from ground, etc.)

Some of the delays in finishing the deck were beyond Mid-Atlantics control. But once the time allotted for my deck to be completed had passed, it was difficult to get them back out to complete the unfinished items. I called the foreman, the salesman and the "big boss" at the company on numerous occasions. The crew chief was not responsive when I pointed out the short and misplaced railing boards. I had the foreman come out and made him replace a few of them. Then as more work was done the quality of the from that point became worse. Because of the crew chiefs attitude, I requested on three occasions that he not return to my house and they need to find someone else to complete the work. I was told they had no one else to complete the work. I finally sent an email to the big boss expressing my dissatisfaction with delays, the quality of the work, and this particular crew chief. I asked him to please have a different person come out to finish the work. I made the comment that I would like be able to say good things about his company when I show off my deck. I asked what are you willing to do for me to keep me as a customer. He replied with a curt email stating only "Tim will be out Monday." Tim was the crew chief that I asked him not to send back to my house. Finally on July 4th Tim returned to my house to finish up. There was a misunderstanding about me being present while he worked. I told him he could stay on work but I had to leave. He lost his temper and demanded that I be present and authorize final payment on the deck. He pounded his fist as he talked, He slammed his truck door and He drove off. My wife and I were leaving and He blocked the road for a short time talking with his other worker in another truck so that we could not pass by in our car.. When another car came from the other direction they finally moved. I left a message with the foreman telling him there was a misunderstanding and stated that under no circumstances would I allow Tim back on my property. Finally the foreman sent another man out to finish the work. He had to straighten up the uneven rail posts and replace the majority of the top rails to make them solid. During this drawn out process They finally got the under-deck gutter put up to where it would work. They had to cut the under-deck ceiling boards way back from the gutter to keep them from getting wet. That has worked but it looks terrible. The ceiling boards on the side of the deck still get wet from water running down the side of the deck and with heavy rain I still get a little water leaking in behind the deck and running down the wall of the house. I was told these two issues could not be fixed. The connection Tim had made with downspout was not fully inserted and loose. The lower portion of the downspout fell off when I tried insert it correctly. I had to properly connect it all myself. The sanded off most of the lumber yard stamps on the deck floor boards. I had to sand off the remaining ones on the floor boards and all the ones on the railing boards myself. I had to finish filling up the large post holes myself. I've cleaned up from around the area a large saw blade, many paper tags from the lumber, small pieces of cut boards, unused pieces of the gutter, a paint can, a cement footer, and screws and nails too numerous to count. After the new guy came out and finished the top boards on the railings it was a big improvement. I figured that was about as good as I could get from them despite the remaining leaks and remaining boards cut short. I made my final payment to them this week.

They did a good job and I'm very satisfied with them. They were knowledgeable about the quotes and they did a custom work.

When the Mid Atlantic representative came to give us an estimate on construction of a new screened porch, we were not immediately impressed with the presentation. But after getting additional estimates from at least two other reputable companies, and meeting with Mid Atlantic again, it became clear that they had the best plan, the most detailed understanding of our needs, and would do everything necessary to comply with the appropriate county codes. They also provided a cost estimate that was not only comparable to others, but included details the other companies did not suggest. Mid Atlantic gave us an approximate date for starting the work on the new porch and they did start within a few days of the estimate. Everything on this job went smoothly, from the demolition of the old deck, pouring footers, inspection, and porch construction. The two carpenters on the job worked almost non-stop from 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning until at least 6:00 in the evening. On at least one occasion they worked well beyond 6:00pm to make up for time lost on the previous day. The quality of their work was outstanding. The place where the new porch ties in to existing house structure looks as though it has been there since the original construction of the house. As I have indicated in the ratings, everything about this job was outstanding and we would certainly hire Mid Atlantic for additional jobs. We originally called Mid Atlantic because they constructed a new deck for our neighbors and came highly recommended. We have since recommended them to several friends and other neighbors

Outstanding! The crew showed up first thing in the morning, right on time. Worked throughout the day and were packing up before it got dark. They did an incredible job and I could not be happier with my fence. It's perfect for my dog and to define my yard. There is no comparison between my fence and the others in the neighborhood. Definitely splurge for the cedar vs. pressure treated wood. It's worth it.

Replaced a split rail fence. They had best estimate; they honored it although it was more than 30 days when we accepted it (homeowner association approval delay). Company was easy to contact and communicate with. Work was scheduled within a reasonable time frame and completed in one day. Clean up was good. Materials and workmanship seem good.

The crew arrived on time each day. They were professional,efficient,and very hard workers. We were impressed with their pride in workmanship. Every contact with the main office was pleasant. Customer service is excellent.
