The salesman was low key and effective. The work was done in one week as promised. The countertop (Counter Intellligence Inc.) was done efficiently and we are pleased with the quality. The Kitchen Magic technician was excellent. All materials arrived on time and were correctly measured. The technician was neat and tidy. We are very pleased with the kitchen. Kitchen Magic returned 9/9/08 to tighted the loose faucet and adjust the sticking cabinet doors. They also returned 3/18/11 to adjust sticking cabinet doors. We are very pleased with Kitchen Magic's work.

See my comments above. Can't say it again. Kitchen Magic is the best alternative to replacing cabinets.
Description of Work: I was not able to replace my cabinets because I had already installed granite. I contacted Kitchen Magic, and they provided a great alternative to new cabinets. I went from a dark, dreary 80's oak kitchen to a bright white wonderful, amazing kitchen. I highly recommend this company. They were on time, finished before their estimated finish time, and were professional throughout. I had a small defect and called them about it. They were here in less then 48 hours to fix the problem. You can't go wrong with Kitchen Magic.

Work went well overall. They put up protective barrier to contain dust. They made a mistake on the doors over the 2 new cabinets above the refrigerator. They made 1 big door instead of 2 but they corrected this. Also, we asked for 2 pull out drawers in front of the sink but they were only going to put in 1. So, make sure you have all the fine details in writing in the contract. The quality of the work was good and we are pleased with the result. It has helped our house recently sell.
Description of Work: Had our kitchen cabinets resurfaced, installed sliding drawers in lower cabinets, lighting under cabinets, pull out pockets in front of sink, built new cabinet over refrigerator.

See above, pretty much great throughout.
Description of Work: Had kitchen refaced, small lights installed over sink area, also had 1/2 bath cabinets redone and additional cabinet installed. Some of the kitchen cabinets were modified to make area more functional. They did a great job. Only surprise was that we used credit card for deposit, were planning on using it for the other two payments, but remaining payments they would only take cash or check, so that had us paying for the whole project a bit faster than we anticipated. They said our kitchen is twice the size of normal kitchen, not sure it's that big. I think the price is a bit high, but they had the whole project done in a week, a demo and replacement would of been months. They still look as good as they did when they finished and it's been done for over a year now.

It's always good to get more than one estimate. It's always good to see samples of the actual materials that will be used, not just pictures. I did both.
Description of Work: Kitchen cabinets were completely refaced with solid birch doors and drawers replaced with birch drawers which glide nicely. Minor details needed to be attended to, and they were at a later date. One cabinet was finished with glass doors and looks especially lovely. Interior lighting was added there in the interior, with glass shelving to show off my stemware. In addition we added under cabinet lighting ("puck lights") They are very helpful and look good. I bought my own hard ware and it was installed nicely. All work was neatly done. Earl was in charge and he was extremely competent. His experience and care was evident in everything he did. When one cabinet door was a bit darker, Ken came out and took photos and got it replaced by one that matched better. I am very pleased with the job done for me by this company.

Refacing was okay, but that's where the positives ended. Co. sent one guy to wear all the specialty hats rather than sending professionals in electrical and plumbing. Was obvious that guy was no electrician nor plumber. New over the sink and under cabinet lights were installed in a shoddy manner and never worked. Ordered new custom drawer that never fit and had to get installed on my own at additional cost. After the majority of the contract's price was paid, everything turned into a battle in order to get what was paid for. I found the owner to be condescending, rude and obnoxious. Obvious things that any reputable contractor should know were not addressed or possibly just plain ignored. Owner doesn't seem to cotton to women speaking up about anything - the school of thought that they should be seen/not heard, even when it's their money and house on the line. Similar comment below regarding the tactic of threatening to pull out everything already installed was also my experience. Of course, this was after all my old cabinet doors and drawer fronts had already been demolished and dumped, so pretty much my kitchen would have been left with no usable cabinets, drawers, or countertops and in a worse condition than KM found it. This kind of headache not worth it at any price. Update on March 10, 2013: Owner of KMR should learn that the tactic of and quot;Killing the Messengerand quot; is not effective. Address the message. Time would be better spent proving the license status of his subcontractors and that his employees sent to your home is licensed and competent to do the job. Businesses do not make nor accept a settlement unless there was something valid in the complaint to begin with. To the owner of KMR, if you want women to trust you in their homes, around their children, and seek their money, stop your 1950's thinking, and consider that along with taking our money comes your responsibility to simply deliver what we paid for.

Response from Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc.
This past client of Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc. is blatantly trying to ruin the reputation of Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc. and any past or present employees using inaccurate information and false accusations. All issues with this client have been settled in court due to the client's breach of contract for the provided products and services. The client has specifically lied in this review as the date of the kitchen installation was not May 1, 2008 (it was in 2005 which is not within AngiesList "recent" guideline), the "Approximate Cost" was not $13,000 USD and the drawer mentioned was the correct size for the client's cabinet. Furthermore, this client has made claims that Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc.'s Salespeople and Installers are not qualified and unlicensed which is completely false. All employees who are required to have the proper certifications and licensing, do so through the Maryland Home Improvement Commission and can be viewed at any time. This review should be removed because of the aforementioned discrepancies and misuse of AngiesList policies.

Excellent! The workers were professional, talented and hard-working. They showed up and completed work on schedule. The quality of work and materials surpassed what I expected. I would highly recommend this company. It is probably the best home contracting experience I've had.
Description of Work: We had existing kitchen cabinets refaced and a new 6-drawer cabinet built. Kitchen Magic was able to do what no other refacing contractor could: They removed the unsightly soffit and built the upper cabinets to the ceiling; installed task lighting; moved an electrical outlet and a heating vent! It looks like a brand new, custom kitchen. You would never guess that it was a refacing job.

The salesperson was high pressure (but at least we received a quote from him--another VERY highly rated Angie's List refacing contractor took over a month to give a very poorly detailed quote, and did not return phone calls or e-mails). He also gave a quote, and then denied that what I had written down was the correct number. The project manager was argumentative and borderline rude on the telephone. I have a speech difficulty, and the person answering the office phone kept telling me to "speak up--I can't hear you." If I could speak up, I would--she was very rude about it. The good news is that the two gentlemen who did the work were conscientious and really pretty good. The result looks good, except for a few dings and scratches here and there--hard to avoid. The materials used are good as well, and are as advertised. At my request, they left some remaining materials behind. The old kitchen cabinets had some custom trim, which the crew were able to refinish to match the new cabinetry, which was nice. My only real complaint with the work is that the drywall work was left marginally finished--it will require a good bit of sanding and patching before it can be painted. This will be tough to do around the finished cabinet surfaces, without incurring some damage. Because of the salesperson, the project manager, and the person who answers the office phone, I would think twice about hiring them again--but if we had the same workers, I'd be much more likely to do so.
Description of Work: Kitchen cabinet refacing, some drywall work, some electrical work. Two cabinets needed resizing, and we had a bartop added to an existing island. Also some new pantry cabinets.

They did a great job. I would recommend them to others and I have as well.
Description of Work: They refaced our cabinets, put on new doors and built a new floor to ceiling cabinet to match. They added some electrical outlets. They hired someone to install the granite counter top we purchased. They also installed a new sink and faucet and when they left everything was in working order.

Very pleased with the refacing and cabinet changes. However, thought we were getting a couple more pull outs that were discussed but not written in the contract. Getting an estimate late in the evening after a long day at the office isn't always the best idea. We had a double pull out trash can set installed in the island cabinet; however, the trash pull out was not functional. You had to open both doors, reach in and pull out to be able to use. When I called to question whether we had the right style installed, Ric seemed surprised that the large set had been installed, but basically said tough. Hard to understand that after spending over $18,000 that they would not be willing to replace a $50 trash can pull out. Which I bought at Lowes and replaced with a better quality one. Bottom line, they do great work and individual that did the work was excellent. Just be sure to get every minor detail in the contract, and don't expect much support after paying the final bill.
Description of Work: Complete cabinet refacing, to include changing out several cabinet with doors into pull out drawers. Removing a center section over the desk area and installing a wine-rack. Additionally, had a cabinet installed in the bottom open desk area. Also had a bread drawer added, a pull out trash cans under the island cabinet.

This was one of the worst contracting experiences I have ever had. Nearly every interaction I had with this company was unpleasant in some way. Both the salesman and the manager were condescending to me as a woman; the manager actually told me he’s never known a woman “who could make up her mind”. He also called me a liar, both in reference to their estimate being twice one of my other estimates and when I described a problem with the dishwasher not closing properly. Both the salesman and the owner assured me I would not need to repair/paint after they were finished; this proved to be entirely false. The installer told me "they always say that even though they know it isn't true." Salesman, manager, and installers were very argumentative. For example, they insisted on installing a tilt drawer below my sink. I didn’t want one because I wanted to reinstall an antique bottle opener there. The salesman argued for half an hour but finally took it off the order. The manager ALSO argued with me about it and I finally agreed to it just to terminate the conversation. So I have a tilt drawer I don’t want and I can’t reinstall my bottle opener. The installers were punctual but were unable to follow directions. They came on a rainy day and I asked them to put down drop cloths in my living room and not to store wet materials on the carpet. I found piles of wet stuff on the carpet, mud tracked everywhere, and no drop cloth in sight. When I told them they could not move my kitchen island they used it as a saw table. They didn’t put up a curtain between my kitchen and the living room right away, so most of the rest of my house was very dusty. Cleanup was poor; although they did remove all the debris, they barely swept up all the sawdust and I had to spend hours cleaning up after them. They managed to get sawdust and some larger debris inside the dishwasher. When the work was done, it turned out some doors were the wrong size and there was damage to the walls. When I refused to make the last payment until the work was completed to my satisfaction and I could talk to the manager (he was conveniently on a boat out of contact for an unknown length of time), the workmen made a great show of fetching their tools from the truck so they could uninstall the work. After some negotiation, I withheld part of the payment, pending the new doors. After they left I realized that the dishwasher wouldn’t close because it was hitting the cabinets on both sides. When I called the manager about this, he said it was impossible, he’d never seen such a thing in 25 years, and in any case “it’s not the end of the world if you can’t wash a few dishes.” Over a month later (partly their fault, partly mine) they finished the work. Their warranty is horrible. Unlike every other company I contacted, Kitchen Magic’s warranty is only good for as long as I own this house. If I sell it tomorrow, none of this brand new, expensive work is covered under warranty.
Description of Work: They refaced all the cabinets in my kitchen, rebuilt all the drawers and doors, and also replaced the countertop.

The cabinets and counter tops are nice and my kitchen does look better than before but I found several problems. Kitchen Magic installed a set of rollout shelves in one cabinet; however, I realized that the rollouts could not be pulled out because the cabinet door doesn't completely open blocked in part by the kitchen window. I asked several times that the rollout shelves be taken out and put in another cabinet because I felt that Kitchen Magic's designers should have realized this problem in the first place. It took many phone calls for Kitchen Magic to agree. Second, the veneer in one section of a cabinet was already coming off and the installers had to come back and stick it back on. Third, Kitchen Magic also said that minimal touch up work would be required but I disagree. Because the back splash they installed is shorter than the original one, I now have to fill in holes that now appear and repaint the kitchen. There is space between the back splash and the kitchen wall, especially above the sink. I'm concerned about potential water damage and Kitchen Magic said it was not their responsibility. I now need to get a contractor to come and repair holes in the wall, repaint the kitchen, and see what can be done about the space between the wall and the back splash. I would have rather been told from the beginning the potential problems of simply refacing kitchen cabinets. If I had to do it over again, I would have gone with a general contractor instead.
Description of Work: The salesman visited our home in September 2008 and we signed the contract. Then another gentleman came to measure the cabinets and drew plans of our kitchen. Then a subcontractor came to measure the counter tops (Kitchen Magic purchased the counter tops from another firm). Then two installers came and completed the actual work. The work was quite messy but lasted only three days.

From the time I contacted the company for an estimate, I was treated courteously and their staff was very professional. Appointments were kept and their sales person came to my home (twice) with a car load of samples. He was also a licensed contractor and his explanations were thorough and detailed. He was not pushy. He had a large portfolio of 'before/after' photos of previous jobs as well as written testimonials from previous customers. He included samples of various countertop materials as well. He coordinated with the company who provided the countertops for them to contact me for on-site measurements. That company's personnel were extremely courteous and professional as well and made several observations and suggestions which were very helpful. When a backsplash didn't fit as well as it could, they removed it, provided a new one with different dimensions and installed it for a perfect fit. The actual workman who did the cabinet refacing was professional, courteous, and careful of my house. He was friendly and answered my multiple questions and tolerant of my cats who occasionally wandered into the kitchen area. The work is messy with lots of sanding dust and in retrospect, I should have insisted on draping plastic over both kitchen entrances. He removed the old countertops, and appliances and installed the new sink, faucet, microwave and dishwasher without a fuss. Also installed the new cabinet hardware which I purchased. I would heartily recommend this company to others. The result is really beautiful, high quality, remodeled kitchen.
Description of Work: Kitchen Magic refaced every cabinet surface in my kitchen which included new solid wood doors and drawer fronts in natural cherry. They enclosed the exposed undersides of all upper cabinets as well. They reinstalled my undercabinet lighting which I preferred over their product. They also provided a custom built cabinet above the fridge area and a custom solid vertical panel to enclose that area. They contracted with another company for the Silestone countertops and backsplashes and provided project coordination. They installed my new microwave, stove and dishwasher which I had delivered earlier. The slide-in range required an adjustment to the Silestone countertop which they coordinated.

A salesman was sent with numerous samples of wood and laminate cabinet doors in different styles. I chose a cherry fruit wood with a Kona Beige Silestone countertop, stainless steel sink and faucet. All their staff were extremely professional and would offer suggestions without feeling pressured in any way. Everyone that has seen the work that they have done can't get over that these cabinets are not brand new. I feel I have gotten a first class experience which would have cost me 2 or 3 times more and the work was accomplished in 2-3/4 days. I understand a new kitchen remodeling can take months. I was so surprised that a few weeks later they sent me a beautiful floral arrangement with the nicest note to complement my new kitchen.
Description of Work: They send one person to completely reface all my kitchen cabinets and replace 2 cabinets with new. He also put in 3 recessed lights above the cabinets (which highlight little houses and greenery on top) along one wall with it's own switch and dimmer and 3 recessed lights under the same cabinets with its own switch and dimmer. The had E-counterintelligence come in and install my Silestone countertop. I felt that Steve Dodson, the installer they sent, was very meticulous and took pride in every thing he did as though it were his own home project. I couldn't have been more pleased.

The project went well. Al the salesperson, Mike the designer, and Steve the installer were all dreams to work with, the project came in earlier than anticipated and within budget. I'm planning a kitchen open house for my home owners association neighbors so they can see my kitchen and specifically my cabinets. The only downside was that I had been given an estimated install time of 10-12 weeks from the contract execution date, they installed 7 weeks from the contract execution date, this meant that I had to rush the floor install and reschedule the appliance delivery date since the cabinet refacers were installing the appliances. I didn't mind the juggling, I did mind having the company owner call me a liar when I mentioned the projected 10-12 week install date. That exchange was so unpleasant(including a weird rant about delivery!)that I didn't call the company to tell them, in advance of installation, that I wanted 3 more undercounter lights, and I still do.
Description of Work: I project managed my kitchen update. After performing due dilligence research (Angie's list, BBB, friends and neigbors) I elected to work with the contractors for flooring, cabinet refacing, silestone counters, porcelain and glass backsplash, appliances and cabinet pulls and knobs. Kitchen Magic refaced the cabinets; I chose refacing after finding out that cabinets have a life of approximately 50 years, they took my 18 year old oak cabinets, replaced the drawer fronts, cabinet doors (including a set of glass front doors), modified a base cabinet to hold recycling and trash baskets, modified an over refrigerator cabinet, installed the hardware, installed under counter lighting and veneered all other exposures. The cabinets look wonderful and I'm happy I chose refacing.

Our overall experience was horrible. Several hours with sales and technical staff requiring three visits to our house, contract written and agreed to, even pressure to move ahead and purchase appliances for the kitchen remodel, which we did. Large deposit required - nearly two weeks lost. After several days, we called to provide additional requested information and were told by a supervisor that "we can't do this job, it's not the kind of job we do." Supervisor was rude, abrupt, acting as though this misunderstanding was our fault - basically said "I don't care at all," when I asked why sales and technical were so positive and when I suggested that they needed to communicate better. They did return our check, along with a laughably badly written, and again rude, letter - no apologies, no effort at all to respect and consider us. I strongly suggest that you do not work with Kitchen Magic - this kind of experience is usually the tip of an iceberg.
Description of Work: Developed a proposal for kitchen remodel, leading to a large contract, which kitchen magic later cancelled in a rude and most unprofessional way.
