Very good experience. Clear estimate, good phone service, polite and courteous assistance. Had to delay for rain and was called promptly. Service workers were polite, clean and conscientious at the scene.

It was a great experience. The initial meeting for the estimate went very well; the representative was very knowledgable and professional. He answered all my questions and explained everything. They worked with my irregular schedule. After the job was done, when I found a loose board, they were out the next day and fixed it!

Excellent service from all parties including estimator technicians and office staff. Beautiful results. This is an update - 3/26/12 - to a previous report. We had an old deck complete tear-down, and a new complete deck installed in 2000. Every 3-4 years we arranged for the deck to be cleaned and stained/sealed professionally. We found DeckMaster in Angie's list and proceeded with work (previously reported on in an earlier report). We need to put forth additional comments. The deck looks beautiful - actually looks like new. It is by far the best job we've ever had on the deck. Our satisfaction is then additionally increased by the many, many unsolicited comments that we receive every time family or friends view the deck and comment on how beautiful the deck looks. Great job - and highly recommended!

DeckMaster convinced us that we should replaced aging, splintering deck floor. They came and did the job in about 2 days, and tooka way all the waste. They did not sand the boards or rails.

The 3 people with whom I interacted were all very professional, knowledgeable, punctual and helpful. The deck looks great. Water does not bead tightly on all parts, which makes me wonder how uniformly the seal was applied. However, the problematic spots are sufficiently small that I chose to reseal them myself rather than ask the company to return.
Description of Work: Deck was washed and then sealed. This required two separate service visits. The weather was not cooperative, so we had to reschedule these visits. However, the company was quite effective at doing this.

The water beading effect normally comes from using waxes and silicone. These chemicals are normally found in inexpensive water sealers from you local store. The stains that we use are made of Alkyd/acrylic formulation which does not necessarily bead up the water. Even though the wood has to be sealed to prevent water damage, it is important that the finish applied has breathing capabilities. In other words, the wood must be able to breath and the moisture to escape. Otherwise other issues such as wood checking is possible. So if you don't see a lot of water beading is perfectly normal. However, if you have any concerns about the finish, you can always call our office to schedule an appointment to have one of our managers come and inspect it just to make sure everything is fine. We don't expect you to do anything by yourself. As a matter of fact, if you try to touch it up yourself, you may make it worse or may even void the company warranty. There are a lot of variation on deck finishing. For example weather can play an important role in this. That's why we have to look at it to make sure that the finish has not been compromise. Again, please call us at your earliest convenience and we would be more than glad to inspect it at no charge to you. Thank you for the feedback and hope you have a nice holiday. They were fine, but did not explain that the few boards that we elected to have changed would be a different color (pine yellow) than the cedar-colored stained porch/deck.

On October 31, 2011 I came out and spoke your wife, regarding your complain about 3 new floor boards not being stained and the rail caps not being sanded. I re-evaluated the deck and everything was fine. The boards were stained but did not match with the deck because of the difference in the PH of the wood, and the color of the new boards showing through the transparent stain. The stringers that were installed for the security of the step ware very effective, and our technicians had accomplished a 60-80% improvement on your cap rails. Before leaving, I reminded your wife of the conversation that we had when I first came out to do the estimate, and she recalled everything. I reminded her that the sanding was not part of the package you chose. It was something I did out of courtesy, because you had declined to replace the cap rails. I had given you both a verbal estimate to replace the cap rails and I warned you about the discoloration then. She recalled the conversation and apologized for making me come out to your home again. She said she was very happy with our work, that she would give us a good report, and that she would recommend us to anyone she knew needed help with their decks. I thought this issue was resolved, so this comes as a surprise to us. I just want to make sure we clarify things and if there is anything else I can do for you please feel free to give us a call.

, Hard working, punctual crew. The deck looked beautiful when completed. The one negative was that, when power washing the chemical used to strip the original deck, the crew did not protect my windows. A light brown film covered each window pane. During the period betwenn stripping and staining, I cleaned the deck-level windows twice to remove the film .. The firm cleaned the second floor windows and did a fairly good job.
Description of Work: Deckmasters cleaned/stripped my deck down to the grain. It applied a cedar stain to every spindle pole and slat of the deck and the arbor above - a lot of detail work.

Jose Ugalde, the owner of Deck Master, was very good and did not try to sell us anything we didn't need. Two other contractors said we needed to replace the joists because they probably were not in good condition after 22 years. Jose said that the joists most likely do not need to be replaced, but the deck installers would look at them when the wood deck was removed. As it turned out, we did not need to replace the joists. We wanted the same color, Redland Rose, on the stair risers and banboards on the deck perimeter as the deck itself . My husband had understood from Jose that these would be the same color and was included in the price. Jose, in the contract, wrote white vinyl and said the same color as the deck was an additional cost. However, Jose said he would give us the color we wanted at no additional cost. The deck was wet when the installers left and we did not notice until the deck dried that there was a scratch across 5 boards to the left of the deck, about 5 inches from the side. It was not a deep scratch, more like the depth of a key that had been scratched on a car. Jose and Mauricio from the lumber company came to look at it. Almost all the deck boards would have to be removed to replace these 5 boards and we decided not to do it because more damage could be done to the other deck boards and the railing when they were removed and reinstalled. Jose had asked us at one point when we were trying to decide what we wanted to do, if we wanted monetary compensation for the scratch, but it would come out of the pay of the head installer. We decided not to pursue this. The person from the lumber yard thought that perhaps there was a screw which scratched the deck.

I found DeckMaster Inc on Angie's List and liked the reviews. Had them come out and give me an estimate to replace the post and some planks and to clean and stain the deck. The work required 3 trips, 1 to do the repair work, 1 to clean everything and 1 to stain everything. On each trip the workmen were ontime and took great care to do the work correctly and to clean up. My deck looks wonderful, even nicer than when it was first installed. I will definitely be using DeckMaster Inc again.

Overall, the job went well. The workers were prompt and the quality of the work was good. The estimate included No. 1 quality wood which we learned had a more knots then we would have liked. We did not know that a higher quality grade called Select was available until the job had begun. The vendor was willing to redo the work with Select at extra cost. The modification would have significantly reduced his profit on the job. We opted to stay with the No. 1 grade wood. My only complaint is that the vinyl siding J channel adjacent to the deck flooring was left pulled out a bit.

The company representative who conducted the actual estimate was familiar with proper deck construction and suggested some needed repairs without "overselling". He answered each of my questions with clear answers that I understood. He also gave a quick demonstration of their method for cleaning and refurbishing the deck. Follow-up questions to Deckmaster were answered promptly and on point by office management staff that demonstrated that they have good inner communications and are likely very reliable. Although I did not select them to do the repairs, I would recommend them to others and plan to have them refurbish our deck some time next year.
Description of Work: Deckmaster gave an estimate for repairs needed on our six year old Trex deck. They were very well organized and provided a telephonic reminder of the impending appointment. In additon to the deck repair estimate they offered to provide an estimate for cleaning and reconditioning our deck which I accepted.

Very well. The Pros - The estimator came out and looked at my deck and gave a demonstration of how their deck cleaning system works. He told me the manager would have to give the estimate based on the evaluation made by him. (My deck is in generally good condition - just need maintenance) I got an estimate within two days. The price was far better than the other companies I got quotes from, one of which I had used several times. Once I placed a deposit after receiving the agreement a date was set. What impressed me the most about Deckmasters was their communication with the customer about delays. My past experiences with other contractors was no call, no show and then lame excuses for why they did not come or call. When it came time to do the work the weather was not cooperative and I was informed promptly of having to re-schedule the service. After two reschedulings due to stormy weather they came the day and time they said they would and did the job in 4 hours. They had to come back after letting the deck dry out thoroughly to seal the deck a couple of days later. They came out and finished it up as promised on the day they say they would. My deck has never looked this good in the ten years I;ve lived in this house. The roof looks almost new and all of the moss was removed.

It started out well. Received an estimate for the work that needed to be done. We have a pressure treated deck and cedar superstructures (railing, arbor, etc). We were told that they don't pressure wash as this harms the wood itself. Estimate was high, but after the lousy job the last company did, we decided to go for it. The only thing that concerned me was that I was told all the plants directly in front of the raised deck might go dormant and not flower for the rest of the season because of the amount of water that they use. I was also told the price was high because they would have to hand sand all the support structure. They came out within a week and removed the old stain. My husband had rigged up plastic sheeting to protect the flowers and plants which worked out well. I just don't understand how they say they don't powerwash...sure looked like it to me. Then came the waiting game. They wait 48 hours to stain. It took weeks because we had rain periodically and they were getting backed up. This was even though we had set up both appointments in advance. The reason I would use them again is because the deck looks great even though we went through most of the summer waiting. My biggest problem is that they did not sand all the areas they said they would. There is quite a bit of furring on the cedar still. Also, when they power sprayed, they got all the old stain on everything around the deck...windows, fencing, house, etc. and I had to ask them to clean it up. They did clean up some of it, but I was out there with a scrub brush and bucket to get the rest. I had just had the windows cleaned and didn't expect the side windows and screens to get such a mess. It was very hard to rate them as some of what they did was great...some of it not so much. I do think they use a good product, just not sure their follow-up is all it could be. Also, I think they should honor their appointments. Why make an appoinment if they aren't going to come out then...always stating that they were backed up with other people. Clean up could be much improved and if they state they will sand all the superstructure by hand, why didn't they?

DeckMaster clearly states, both in writing and verbally, that we reserve the right to re-schedule appointments base on weather. The reason we do this is because, ever if there's only a 30% chance of rain, there's a possibility that the finish may get damage after it has been done. We stay behind our work, therefore, if something happens to the finish we take full responsibility including re-doing the work again if necessary. That's why we don't take any chances. Other companies might just do the work and if it gets washed off or damaged, they would simply say that it was an act of God. Our customers trust us to make the right call for them of when to do the job to make sure it is professionally done, regardless of the waiting period. Obviously we can't do anything about the weather. When there are several days of imminent weather, we automatically put our customers on a waiting list and perform each job on a first come basis. Secondly, all of our literature clearly explains the cleaning procedure. DeckMaster uses a low pressure cleaning system to clean the wood surface. It does not say anywhere that we don't use pressure. Usually in the industry 3000 to 4000 psi of pressure is used to clean the surface without the aid of any chemicals. Our revolutionary system only uses a 1/3 of the pressure used by other competitors. The furring and fuzzing of the stain is a normal condition in cedar wood that happens when an old heavy layer of finish has been stripped. This is totally harmless and does not damage the wood nor is a safety hazard to touch. Anyway most of this furring is normally gone by the time we do the sanding process. The areas that the customer is referring as "not sanded" are probably the vertical surfaces such as railings, banboards, etc. Our Restoration package only includes sanding on all the horizontal surfaces such as floor, rail caps and stair threads. In addition, we don't hand sand anything to begin with. We use a heavy duty belt sanding machine as well as a smaller orbital sander for hard to reach areas. We start with a heavy duty sandpaper such as 36 or 50 grit followed by an 80 grit sandpaper. The purpose of the sanding is to remove the dead wood cells and to lower the raised wood grain and to improve the overall appearance of the wood. A deck is never sanded to make it smooth like a hardwood floor. It is only performed as a restoration measure. Not for esthetic purposes. As far as the appointment is concern, we schedule 2 days to do the work, but if for some reason the weather is not cooperating, there's nothing that we can do, unless the customer wants to take the chance that the deck gets ruined by rain. That's the reason why we don't require the customer to be present when we do the work. This way we give more flexibility to the customer and he/she will not waste a day off work, especially if the job is cancelled at the last minute. The overspray the customer is talking about is the wood particles that splashed everywhere during the cleaning process and accumulates in window/door screens. We accept the fact that there was clean up necessary. I'm sorry that she had to do part of it herself, but we could have taken care of it without hesitation. At the end the most important thing for us is customer satisfaction and to make sure that we fix any mistakes even if it takes for us to come back several times. We apologize if you had to wait a long time for the sealing phase, but we were just looking into your best interest. The deck is now well protected and looks great which is what matters.

Our deck presented some difficulties - 1. It was one story off the ground and screened-in (making the upmost part of the deck, 20 feet off the ground, 2. There was an outer portion that had been neglected for several years - so it was dirty, grease stained, showing the first signs of warping and the stairs were gouged from the dog's nails 3. The screens all needed to be replaced including those at the uppermost tip of the deck roof. 4. Varnish had been applied to the inner most deck railings which was difficult to remove. Yet they handled it all. Other contractors came and looked at the deck but refused to even give me an estimate. They came and gave me an estimate on the date and time agreed upon. The estimate seemed a little high but now that they've done the work, I can honestly say the amount I paid seems low based on the amount of time and effort they put into the work. The communication was excellent and any weather delays were minimal and always explained in detail. They called the day before they were to do any part of the service and on other days if there was any possibility of delays. When I had a question about the procedures or what had been completed, they always took the time to explain any details to my satisfaction. They spent an enormous amount of time on the sanding phase, making sure the inner deck and railings were as smooth as possible. Unfortunately, this wasn't always possible on the outer deck because of the amount of neglect but they did their best. The men who came were friendly and professional when completing all aspects of the job. They always cleaned up after themselves every work day and left a deck that looks like new. I am very satisfied wtih the service I recieved and would absolutely recommend them to others. I do wish they offered cabot stains even if they had to charge more but I am happy with the job they did and will have them back next time the deck needs maintenance.

It was a much more complex job than we had first imagined due to both weather delays and complications with the process. Apparently the initial cleaning was not done correctly and quite a bit of old deck stain remained. After the sealing process was rescheduled several times due to rain, a crew came to seal the deck on a Sunday morning. Upon reviewing the deck they said it hadn't been cleaned satisfactorily and they could not seal it at that time. It needed to be cleaned again. This was especially frustrating for me since I had rescheduled a family birthday party - much to the annoyance of the birthday girl - and would have to now hold the party without access to the deck since it would not be sealed in time. Both times that the deck was cleaned there was a huge amount of muck - old stain and dirt - left on my patio, and plants. My new stainless steel grill, although covered, still was spotted with splatter. They didn't adequately cover everything and some of my plants died. Not such a big deal in the long run but my dogwood looks like it's been nuked.Once they finally finished everything the deck looked wonderful. It looks they way I always envisioned it. It has a luminous shine and the wood grain is beautifully highlighted. The most annoying thing over the length of the job was that when they said it had to be recleaned they asked whether I hadn't noticed how badly it had been done. They seemed to think that I, as a nonprofessional, should know what their process is and how it should look. I trusted them as professionals and was somewhat miffed that they tried to put it off on me. Other than that, I have to say that we are quite happy with the deck and hope that it will continue to look great for several years. Also, I want to thank Victoria in their office for her kind, attentive approach during the length of the job. She is a consumate professional.
Description of Work: We had our large, eight-year-old cedar deck cleaned and resealed. The deck had been previously cleaned and sealed a couple of times but a heavy, opaque sealer was put on it and the last time it wasn't properly cleaned so there was mildew coming through the seal.

I am very happy with my experience with DeckMaster. Their prices were good for the large amount of work done and they are just so responsive and accommodating! Jose was really great. He designed a beautiful deck and he worked with my constantly changing my mind about the extra features with professional poise, patience, and responsiveness. The finished deck is even more beautiful than I imagined and I cannot wait to show it off to family and friends. I have already hired them for a second job (fixing and beautifying stairs to a side entrance of the house).

We are 100% satisfied with the company. They came and installed the lattice work first and did a great job in miserable heat. I feel comfortable saying that we have the best, and best looking lattice in the neighborhood. The cleaning and staining of the deck looked great... until an unexpected rain storm ruined the stain.Without a second thought, they had someone stop by to check on the damage and promptly rescheduled a time to re-sand and re-stain.They were prompt, courteous and thorough. One of the best experiences dealing with a contractor ever. They made our abused deck look awesome. I can't imagine using anyone else

Excellent work and Excellent Customer Service. We could not have been happier.
Description of Work: I could not have been more pleased with the work this company provided. The Project Manager, Jose Ugolde, came out first to do the estimate. After examining the deck he was not only able to find solutions to the problems and concerns that we had but also made suggestions to improve the integrity of it. The repair work and powerwashing were excellent. I strongly recommend this company.

The job that they did was okay. We just moved into the house and the deck was basically neglected; so it needed some basic care. It was a small thing. They were punctual. They did what they offered to do. They did a good job. They were a little bit pricey though. I spent around $1500. We would use them again in the future if needed, but we would shop around before we used them.
Description of Work: We used DeckMaster Inc to refurbish the deck.

DeckMasters came out to see my deck and prepare options for its refurbishment/replacement. They were on-time and very professional. The provided several options for replacement. They provided me with a two week schedule to remove and replace the existing deck. The worked diligently, cleaned up after themselves and completed all the work within schedule and budget. It was a great experience. I was not nickle and dimed to death and they did exactly what they said they would do. I am extremely happy with the results.
Description of Work: I originally called DeckMasters to refurbish my 70 foot by 30 foot deck. It turned out that the wood was exteremly worn with rotting flooring and railings. Deck Masters removed and replaced the old deck with new decking and railings.

These guys are the best. The deck looks better than new and they showed up on Memorial day to complete the work. There was a 2+ week lag between the cleaning and sealing due to the recent storms (deck as to dry for at least 2 days after the cleaning). Because of the delay in the sealing they came out a second time to rewash the deck to remove the dirt and tree sap. The technicians are extremely professional and are perfectionists when it comes to covering every area and ensuring the sealer doesn't get on the house or surrounding area. They weren't the cheapest, but very reasonable for a complicated job that involved a 3 tier deck and screened porch.
Description of Work: Deckmasters cleaned and sealed a 3 yr old deck
