The men came a day earlier to clean deck, but a week later to stain the deck to due the weather conditions (rain).
The results look good.
Update 7/18/14: Deck Master redid my deck this week and it went smoothly. I am pleased with the results and happy to know that I still have 2 more years of warranty, which I certainly hope I won't need. It's still a mystery to me what caused the issue (mold/mildew?) in the first place. There was a significant improvement in their communication efforts (keeping me informed) and their willingness to resolve the issue.
"I just spoke with customer and explained to her that the reason of the cancellation is because the wood had to be dry. We did call to cancel because of the weather and I rescheduled appointment for Saturday morning. Either way customer has a warranty for 4 years which no other company provides. I explained to the customer that regardless of her review she has the warranty and that we would come back to evaluate what the issue is. We still don't know whether it is company error or just normal water stain deposits as the stain gets dirty. The customer told us that after we take care of the problem she would revise the review. As I explained to her, she just had to call the office to let me know of her concerns and I would have taken care of it right away. So technically speaking there was no need for the review since we never had any intention of not responding or taking care of the problem. We always take care of our customers no matter what and this is not the exception. Let us know if you have any further questions and see you tomorrow. Thank you Best Regards, Jose Ugalde DeckMaster, Inc."
5/12. They called me the evening of 5/8 and asked if they could come out the following day. Great, yes, I was glad. The contractors arrived around 11am, I happen to be home and after some confusion about what the estimate actually was for,
and after having to tell a rather portly contractor to get down from sitting on my railing of my deck?yes, he was sitting on the railing of my deck! The power wash was done. Unfortunately, there was not good weather the following week so I called that Monday 5/12 and asked to be put on the Saturday schedule. They told me they were scheduling me on Wednesday 5/14 but I firmly asked to be put on Saturday since I knew it would be raining all week and they agreed. I called the morning of Friday 5/16 to confirm they would be coming out on Saturday, and was told yes, I was on the schedule for the morning.
Saturday came, and around 10am I called and spoke with the manager, who said I was not on the Saturday schedule. He seemed fixated on a name of who I spoke with the day prior, like that would have changed the fact that I wasn?t on the schedule. I expressed my frustration with their customer service, not following up to let me know when and if they would come out. I was promised I would get a call either way if they would be able to make it out on Sunday.
I was pleasantly surprised when the contractors came out later that day. In the end, I feel that they went out of their way to satisfy me as a customer. I just felt a little frustrated getting to that point is all.
"Thank you for your feeback and I'm glad everything turned out fine at the end and I apologize for the scheduling frustration. As the owner of DeckMaster one of the hardest things we deal with is dealing with the weather. The schedule is nicely organized and coordinated and all of a sudden you get 3-4 days of rain and everything has to be pushed back and therefore it is also frustrating not only for the customer but also for ourselves. That's the reason why we over emphazise on the weather issue everytime we sell a job since we know that there's a hight probability of that happening. I even have it on writing under the terms and conditions in the estimate that "we reserve the right to reschedule based on weather or reasons beyond our control". This year the weather has been impossible to deal with and everybody in the industry is going to the same thing. So my advice to future and prospect customers is to be flexible on the weather and expect delays. This is the reason why we don't require our customers to be home because we need flexibility to come out on a short notice to take advantage of the weather. And yes, 1 hour of rain can ruin a whole day's schedule dramatically. I can't have my technicians waiting for hours until it stops raining. We also work on a first come first basis so our goal is always to try to please everybody and give priority to those who have been waiting longer. Some years when the weather is better, our schedule runs a lot smoother. Anyway your stain is gauranteed for 4 years so we look forward to be of service again for next time. Thank you and let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your business and your review. Best Regards, Jose Ugalde DeckMaster, Inc."
"We don't provide estimates to competitors posing as customers. Therefore, I will contact Angie's List to report this fraudulent review. Best Regards, Jose Ugalde President, DeckMaster, Inc."
"Thank you for your feedback. We respect and accept all complaints and opinions equally whether they're negative or positive. However, it is dissapointing when you get a bad review when you were not even given the opportunity to do the work since we know you were going to be thrilled with our service just like all the other satisfied clients we have. I have to say that the information supplied is not correct, first of all we did not cancel the appointment, we simply just called you and asked respectfully and politely the day before the appointment if it would be too much trouble to move the appointment to a later day since there was a schedule conflict and that is common every now and then because of weather issues. However, the gentleman who answered the phone inmediately covered the phone with his hand and talked to someone and then told me to cancel it without even giving us the opportunity to tell him that it was ok to come if it was too much trouble. Anyway we were just asking if it was ok with customer but they already had made up their mind. Anyway, I hope you can get a good service from the other company. And if there's anything we can do to help you in the future, please do so and I personally will take care of you. Best Regards, Jose Ugalde Project Manager"
