First off, this place is very expensive and has a high minimum. They arrived late in the window and were very brusque. They badly scratched my media console and didn't both to acknowledge it. They seemed very put out whenever I wanted to add a small item to the truck even though we used only 2 hours of the 4 hour minimum we were paying for. I was told these movers were excellent, but they are far from it. Way overrated.
Description of Work: I had a couch, coffee table, small dining room table, desk and a couple of chairs that needed to be moved one mile from my old condo to a new house.

I was very unhappy that they treated it as business as usual.
Description of Work: The van broke down during the move and the back area where everything was stored leaked water. I had to throw away a mattress that had dirty water on it. After about a year of going back and fourth, they finally got someone to restore several antiques that had water damage. They were supposed to put furniture back together, and they had left some things undone.

We had a great experience we had with Town and Country Movers. Mike Corrado came out to our house to provide an estimate and it was spot on in terms of time and space they needed with trucks. He walked us through different options and when we had to quickly shift dates and the unload location since our first new home fell through and we bought a different house, he made it smooth and easy to adjust the dates and location and walked us through different possibilities and costs if the company had to hold our stuff for additional time. He also told us it was no problem to have the movers also pick up our stuff that we had in storage, giving us a vey accurate and reasonable price. The movers (Rene Ruiz and his crew of Emik Borjas, Francisco Jose Quinteros, and Ricardo V) were fabulous. They were prompt. They also were careful yet efficient and super cheerful! It's hard work and they seemed to make it fun with consistently pleasant interactions. On the delivery day they ran into a problem with one of the trucks springing a leak and they communicated clearly, we're still close to on time, and still came in under the estimated time even though it was a whole lot more work for Rene who had to move the furniture onto a new truck and they were great about making sure the price was fair and we did not incur any of the costs for the extra time for moving our stuff to a new truck. We really appreciate their excellent work and customer- focused attitude.
Description of Work: We had to move from Gaithersburg to Great Falls, including having our stuff held for two nights before delivery so we could settle on the new house.

It went great! Estimator was honest and spot on. Moving staff arrived on time and worked until was completed. Did so with not complaints and in 108 degree humid heat. They did not damage either home despite a lot to twists and steps. They were kind, professional and courteous. A great company.

Very, very well! The move included packing dishes and fragile personal items, expensive furniture, electronics, etc. Town and Country was very careful in packing and wrapping our belongings, as well as loading and unloading them (I was there at both ends). They responded very pleasantly and professionally to my numerous questions, and did not become annoyed when I asked them to make several changes during our multi-stop move. I am a fussy person and expected that there would be some problems with the move, but there were none. Town and Country was very professional throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend Town and Country to anyone, including close friends and family.

Mr. Plummer was not only on time, he was early. He was excellent at communication and a skilled estimator. The company's pricing policy was basically why I chose another company. The other company guaranteed that price of the move to be the same as the estimate or less if it took less time and materials. T&C's estimate could go up my 10% or down (unlimited) based on the time and materials used. Also, their estimate was the highest (but not by a lot) of the three companies who bid. I also had a tremendous recommendation from my nephew regarding the company I ultimately selected. Having said that, I have used T&C before (about 17 years ago) and they were fine. However, my nephew was able to give me a more current assessment of the company I selected. It was a very hard decision to make.
Description of Work: Chris Plummer estimated the cost of my move and was extremely professional and timely.

Beware of this company and their disregard for their liability for your property. If you do contract with them, be sure to purchase insurance on your goods. The owner of this company, Mr. Kevin Bass, does not believe he has any liability for the damage his employees render to your personal property. He adheres to his 5-day rule for claiming damage. There was no way I could unpack, set-up, and discover damage to a 5-bedroom, 2,800 square-foot home in 5 days all by myself. When I did discover that my grandfather clock and tiffany clock were broken and not working, it was well past my 5-day limit. I had my grandfather clock fixed and submitted my claim. Of the $950 bill, Mr. Bass decided that he would pay me only $250. I didn't list all the broken items in the move or all the nicks and scratches. I only cared about my German grandfather clock. Which, by the way, survived three other moves without a scratch or dysfunction. But, unfortunately, this particular crew definitely did not know how to pack and move clocks. I'm only sorry I gave them such a healthy tip in the end. It could have been used for the repair of my clocks.
Description of Work: Town & Country Movers packed some, not all, of my 5-bedroom house and moved me across town. I packed and moved all the kitchen goods, linens and bedding, all of the bathroom goods, lamps, and most of the pictures and figurines. I packed all of the books, and disassembled all of the electronic equipment.

We arrived with everything intact, but it was not always a smooth process. Prior to the actual moving day, the people we worked with to schedule the move were responsive and professional. The movers themselves, somewhat less so -- but that's probably fairly typical; they're not hired for their charm and wit. My biggest complaint has to do with timing. The movers did not arrive until half an hour after the end of the estimated arrival time, and that can be a big problem when moving into or out of a large apartment building, where scheduling for loading docks and freight elevators can be very tight. When the move started to spill over into other residents' reserved time, we tried to get the movers to pull the truck out of the loading bay and finish the move on the street, but they shrugged it off. Only our negotiations with the driver on the other moving team (who was more professional than our team) prevented a potentially uncomfortable conflict with the other residents and their movers.

From the very beginning, Amy from TheTeam came to the house and did a inperson estimate and explained the process and what they do. The packers arrived right on time and swiftly pack the house in a efficient manner. The movers also did a superb job. Town and Country stored or items on their truck since we had about 2 weeks before we moved into the new house, that got pricey but was unavoidable and still cheaper than having it all moved into storage and out. This was my 1st time ever using movers and IF I move again, we will surely use Town & Country.

The overall experience was not good. The packing and loading went well but it was downhill from there. The driver assured us that a local moving company would check out the access to the first delivery address and provide helpers to unload. Neither happened so the driver had to park the rig in a lower parking lot and it took him and his lone helper 12 hours to unload, all the while treating us as if it were our fault. At the second destination the next day, they were so anxious to get out of town that they rushed everything and damaged two beautiful tilt-top tables. From that point, it took over five months to get the tables repaired under our zero-deductible coverage. Even with periodic prodding, the claim was "in process" for most of that time, which can only mean it was sitting in a pile somewhere. During this whole process, no one from the company ever offered even a hint of apology for the poor service.

The company did an excellent job. One person came to my home a few weeks before the move to give me an estimate for the cost of moving my furnishings, and discussed the different options I had. They were also helpful in getting me the instructions for obtaining parking permits for the moving truck. When I had a problem with the closing on my new home, the movers were flexible about having to schedule the move on a different day (a few weeks later). The movers came at the time scheduled and were amazing about lifting the furniture and wrapping it all to protect it. There were a few scratches on the bed frame, when the had to remove some wood plugs to be able to disassemble it, but no damage to other materials moved, including a heavy glass hutch. The size of the couch was also a problem, as it was too large to fit out of the door. Not only did they have to remove the couch legs, but they also needed to remove the door to get the couch out of the apartment. They had all of the moving done within the scheduled time. They didn't take any breaks until they finished it all. I would definitely use them again in the future, and recommend them to others.

This is our 2nd time working with Steve Morgan, and we highly recommend him. He was extremely flexible in accommodating our move date request which changed 2-3 times. The moving crew of three, led by Freddy, were EXCELLENT -- punctual, polite, and very efficient. We have very difficult and heavy steel furniture and they handled it professionally and with a good sense of humor. We will definitely use this company again, especially because of Steve and Freddy. My crew showed up as close to on time as possible on the day of my move. It was raining, so there was traffic, but they were still at my apartment by 9:15 in the morning. Juan, Emilio and the other crew member (whose name escapes me) got right to work. I walked through my apartment with them. There wasn't really that much left for them to move. I was moving only 1/2 mile, so I had packed and moved all I could already. Once I walked them through, they started wrapping and taking my things out to the truck. they had everything packed in about ninety minutes. Since the move was so close, they followed me to the new location. Again, we walked through, so I could tell them where I wanted everything. Once we did that, they went right to it. Other than about a fifteen minute break, they were working and moving the entire time they were with me. They were done earlier than the estimator had expected - in four hours rather than six - but, again, I think that's because I moved so much stuff myself. The guys were very careful with my things. Nothing was damaged, and when, a week later, I realized they had forgotten to apply the Angie's List member discount to my bill, I called the office and was told the refund should be processed in 48 to 72 hours. I'll update this review if it doesn't appear on my credit card.

The move was a really tough one. My condo was in a garden style building with no elevator and of course I was on the top floor. The person who came to provide an estimate arrived when scheduled and was very professional (Blair). He used a tablet to enter the information and provided a quote on the spot then emailed it to me. I wasn't sure of my move date at that time and when I called to schedule it I had no problem getting the date I requested. The movers arrived as scheduled and were professional and friendly. It rained ALL day on my move day. The movers kept working and were fantastic. It took many hours to move everything from the condo. I had some big, heavy furniture and they wrapped everything to minimize damage and exposure to the rain. They did a great job! The move foreman was Freddy R. and he was terrific. Even after a really long day he asked me if everything was in the house in the right place and room. There were several things I needed moved either a little bit over in the same room or to another room. They moved everything with no fuss. Their goal was to make sure I was satisfied even as tired as they must have been. I would use Town and Country again if I ever move again and would not hesitate to recommend them to others. I can't say enough of how wonderful they were. Their attitude and calm professionalism made a stressful day much easier.

We use T&C Movers for all of our clients' projects because they are so careful and professional. Our clients love this company and several have hired T&C Movers for other projects (including by one couple that needed an enormous and terribly heavy object moved up several flights of stairs but whose previously-hired company could not take care of for them). The location of this project is our office address (I am not able to post our client's addresses online).
Description of Work: Moved a set of very high end-cabinetry and appliances up to 4th story rooftop kitchen we were constructing for one of our clients. The Items were very large, heavy and the home's interior was freshly painted and could not be scratched. T&C Movers took care of it easily for us.

Hi [member name removed], I apologize for your negative experience with our company. We understand that you did write a yelp review as well, but you had made no comment about the driver being late or being rude in that review, but we pulled your file and will reprimand the driver for this 2014 move for $570.00. In addition, I did notice that you purchased additional coverage for the move but did not notify us of the damage until recently. We only wish you had let us know about the damage soon after the move so we could have repaired/replaced the item, especially considering that you did pay for the additional liability. Unfortunately, we would be unable to do anything at this point 19 months after the move since so much time has passed and the damage could have taken place any time since then.

Every aspect was top-notch from start to finish. They came on-site to provide a free estimate (another service provider just asked me to list everything we have over the phone). We wanted them to pack as well as move, and they did just that. The team of 4 arrived on time first thing in the morning and got to work. They packed everything, pausing only to ask an occasional question. They had everything in our condo packed and loaded in 5 hours, then went to the offsite storage unit and packed/loaded that stuff. They were done and on their way by 4PM. On the delivery side, the guys were incredible - professional, personable, and thorough. They took great care with our belongings, and with our new place. We genuinely enjoyed their company while they worked. Everything arrived safely and was well accounted for. Moving is a stressful process - especially interstate moves. Town & Country made it as smooth a process as it could be. If we could do it over again, we would still choose them to move us.

Do NOT use this company if at all possible. We hired this company based on their excellent reviews for an interstate move from Virginia to Massachusetts in July. We had a horrendous experience with them that continues to haunt us to this day. When they came to do an initial assessment, the representative guaranteed us that our belongings would be put on a "straight truck", meaning they would not be touched or removed any time between loading in Virginia and unloading in Massachusetts. Additionally, we purchased the company's full replacement value coverage policy to ensure that our belongings were safe with a $250 deductible. When our belongings arrived in Massachusetts several days later on a different (much larger) truck, we learned they'd been moved to a bigger truck with someone else's belongings and that the other person's stuff had been unloaded first, so everything that belonged to us had basically been crushed when the load inside shifted. The moving team foreman himself apologized for the shoddy work. Our boxes were all crushed and our furniture was scratched and destroyed. We were already stressed due to having a 5 month old child in tow and having to find a new place to live within 48 hours of arriving in Massachusetts when our lease fell through. Additionally we were concerned about having to have our goods delivered to a storage unit until our new home was ready to move into because we knew that it would be difficult to identify damage. The unloading experience was also extremely stressful. The team unloading was moving as fast as they possibly could, making it very difficult to keep up with checking for damage and confirming all of our boxes were received. We immediately reached out to the customer service people by phone at the company and were assured that they would make it right and that we just needed to submit a claim form and had up to 9 months to do so, so we could take our time and evaluate and note all the damage once we were unpacked. We expressed from the beginning of the claims process our concern about not being able to evaluate the damage until we moved out of the storage unit and into the new home. We were assured (verbally) by their lead claims analyst that they would waive our damage deductible and would have plenty of time to document all of the damage. We returned the claim form within a month to the tune of $1600 worth of damage, which included damage to major furniture pieces including a crib, couch, dresser, chair, tv stand etc. and absolutely destroyed items including two bookcases and a vacuum. Originally the company agreed to pay this amount to make it right and gave us a settlement offer in writing, however they then attempted to withdraw the offer, claiming that because they delivered to a storage unit we couldn't prove that they in fact did the damage and had no recollection of the verbal assurances to review the damage once the items were out of storage. Unfortunately, we spent more on them than some of the other moving company quotes we received because of the previous good reviews. Update: After a lengthy conversation with the company's president in which we again had to explain the entire situation and argue our case, the president finally agreed to uphold the written settlement offer that the company had previously sent us. He also said that we did not receive the straight truck was promised by the sales consultant during our consultation due to "carrier convenience" (to save the company money so that it could send one truck north instead of two). The impression this statement gave us was that cost was valued more highly than their company's word/verbal contract. Furthermore, while he told us that it's "always unfortunate when a customer has a bad experience", what was notably missing from the entire conversation was an actual apology for the damage and stress that his company caused. A simple apology would have gone a long way towards restoring my opinion of this company. Although we did receive money to replace our damaged items in the end, the amount of arguing and aggravation required to get it, in addition to the amount of heartache caused by the moving problems/damage initally, make me unable to recommend this company to anyone else.
Description of Work: Town and Country Movers packed our dishware, furniture and TVs and loaded all of our personal goods into their moving truck. We had packed the rest of our items prior to their arrival. They then moved our goods from Virginia to Massachusetts.

We requested a binding estimate for moving a single family home from one location to another in Virginia. The representative showed up on time and was polite and professional. We went through each room of the house and garage together. We specifically requested a binding estimate and we received shortly after the provider left a non-binding estimate. I emailed the representative noting that we wanted a binding estimate. His response was that we would have to first move out all of the things we did not want moved and then he would come back and go through the house again and provide a binding estimate. He was polite, prompt, and professional but ultimately did not provide what we asked for.

Hi (Removed member name), We apologize for not providing a binding estimate as requested. The reason being is that a majority of your items were not moving and your estimator was not able to provide that binding estimate due to that fact. If we had provided a binding estimate on not moving everything, and you then decide to take everything when we show up on move day, it does affect the whole move process in terms of labor, preparation, dispatch, delivery, and sometimes switches to a non-binding charge if the variance is that great. In this case, your estimator did do the right thing to protect you as a consumer from being overcharged if we showed up and had to move more as initially thought. We do our best to provide binding estimates on every in-home estimate we do for Intra-VA and Interstate moves, but sometimes there are cases where moving companies prefer to do non-binding estimates to prevent any problems on move day. In addition, according to your review, services were performed. No service was performed in this case and you are currently not scheduled to move with Town & Country. We had only given you an estimate. We do wish you good luck on your move and your new home!

For our recent move from Fairfax County to Loudoun County, Virginia we used Town and County movers. I highly recommend this company. My initial contact was with Kate of the team of Kate and Melissa. They were very responsive to emails, (even responding after normal business hours) and answered all questions I asked. Our move date changed since the condo did not allow Saturday moves. The address I filled out on the form was for the wrong building, my mistake. We were also originally planing to take chandeliers with us but changed our minds. All of this was relayed to Kate and Ashley but the week before the original date we got a call from an electrician wanting a time to remove the chandeliers. Then the day before the original move date we got an email giving the final contract. A call to Marvin corrected the address and the new date of the move, and deleting the chandeliers. Apologies were given and were accepted for the mis-communication. We were assured that the team they were sending would be great. And they were. The team, headed by Juan Carlos, was fantastic. They moved us out and in in record time, came in at budget, and dropped off a refrigerator to our son?s house in Chantilly. There were no nicks or scratches to anything. They sent 2 trucks and one truck came direct to the condo and started to unload while the other made the stop in Chantilly. All of the glassware they packed came through in great condition. The only things left behind were the 2 shelves to a 1920 secretary. Since the move from our old house was local and the contents still available to us we were able to retrieve the shelves. They would have stood out if all the contents were being moved, which they were not. Since our old house was a knock down and we were able to leave stuff behind, I marked all the items that were to be moved with green painters tape. This would not be necessary if the whole contents of a house was being moved. It is necessary to have more than one person in the house on the day of the move, it was hard to keep track of what was being moved and what was being left. Also, have some type of a count of the boxes being moved. A list with the boxes numbered, a rough idea of what was in each box, in hindsight, would have been very helpful. It was not necessary with the team we had but I can see it would be necessary for any disputes that might occur. Even with the mis-communication at the beginning and the 2 shelves left behind I would use this company again. The bottom line is that the move went smoothly, they set up the furniture where it was wanted, and asked several times if there was anything more they could do. They did a great job of moving us.

First, T&C rep told us that our household goods would not be palleted at the house due to the fact the items can shift during transit to the T&C storage facility (makes sense, right?). THIS was a determining factor in selecting T&C since T&C was the only mover of four that said palleting would be done once goods were at their storage facility - a LIE - goods WERE palleted at house. Second, we chose to pack our household goods for two reasons - one, so we would know what was packed, how and where and two, cost savings. Third, T&C sent 5 and 6 guys to pack up our household goods into 2 trucks. The "inventory" guy simply put a blue sticker on each item. Even though each box, bin, container was clearly marked with its contents, the "inventory" guy simply wrote on his inventory list -- small box, small container, medium box, medium container PBO (packed by owner) , etc. -- NO listing of contents. Fourth, T&C sent only TWO guys to deliver and unload our household goods which were jammed into one truck (remember goods had been initially packed into two trucks) which was filled to the roof with our "not cheap" cast aluminum patio table and chairs strapped to the back of the truck! Fifth, even though Sleep Number sales folks and T&C rep assured us that the movers would know how to set up a Sleep Number bed THESE two guys had no clue how to reassemble and set up our adjustable split bed (trial and error is what they used)! Sixth, we knew before these guys left that we were missing our cast aluminum umbrella stand which was "duly" noted. Word to the wise -- if you are going to use T&C (or any mover for that matter), you or someone (even if you have to hire that "someone") needs to be right there at that truck and not let anyone take anything into the house until you have found that "little blue numbered item" on the inventory list. Otherwise, if you haven't identified it as missing at the time of delivery and you sign off on the paperwork DO NOT EXPECT COMPENSATION from T&C. We did not receive approximately $900 worth of household goods (some of which CANNOT be replaced)! It has been 2 1/2 months since our move into our new house and after filing the required paperwork/claim, we are receiving a whopping $72.15 (for the noted missing umbrella stand). We hope to never have to move again, but should the need arise, T&C will NOT EVEN BE CONSIDERED!
Description of Work: Took household goods (majority of which were packed by owner) May 28, stored them for the month of June, and delivered them to new, out-of-state residence July 1.
