Their representative, Jackie Davis, is great. She knows her job and is available for any and all questions and concerns. Since we hadn't moved in 20 years and the last move had be arranged by our employer, I felt a bit uncertain about this project. The "can do" attitude, friendliness and responsiveness of all the Town & Country personnel was very reassuring. The packing team did a great job of packing and marking the boxes. We had very few "mystery boxes" to unpack. I have no complaints. The entire job was conducted with, to quote an e-mail from Jackie Davis, "I will try to accommodate you in any way I can."
Description of Work: We were moving from Northern VA to South Carolina and needed to put everything in storage for 2 - 3 months. 60 days out from our move I got estimates from 3 companies I found on Angie's List. Town & Country was the best price, most professional and friendliest. Our household contents were packed and crated, the crates loaded on the truck and taken to the Town & Country storage unit. They were competent, on schedule, professional. When the house was packed they went with us to the storage unit where we had stored items while selling our house and loaded those on the truck, also. Our household goods were in storage for 3 months. They requested 3 weeks notice for delivery in S.C. When we were ready for delivery a delivery window of two days was arranged promptly. As arranged, the driver called from the road 24 hours in advance to notify us when he would arrive. He arrived on time. Everything was placed in the house where we want it.

They gave me a 3 hour window of when they would arrive, and they did arrive in that time frame. They packed everything up and there were probably three or four men. They put everything in a small van and then put it in a large van for the cross country move. They moved a grand piano. They wrapped up pictures carefully and had hanging boxes for clothes. They did break one lamp in the move. It was a metal rod sort of lamp, which they did replaced it before they even got here; I was satisfied with that. They had 2 guys unloading and unpacking. Everything seems to be here that was supposed to have been moved. I am happy with the experience.

Movers showed up before 9:30 AM, asked what needed to be moved and proceeded to do just that. Furniture was wrapped for protection and if it was needed to be broken down, it was re-assembled later. We even stopped by a home improvement store to pick up a shed and still finished on time.

Their people mishandled my belongings and they dragged their feet for over 7 months before making things right.
Description of Work: They damaged my property and gave me the run around for 7 months before reimbursing me per the insurance provisions of the moving contract. I had to call the owner on several occasions and threaten to go to consumer affairs in order to get things moving forward.

Salesman Blair Parler came to the apartment and looked at everything we were moving and gave an estimate. He was extremely helpful and professional. We had a total of 3 companies give us an estimate. We checked with Angie's List and Town & Country got a high rating, so we selected them. Movers, under the supervision of Paul Zuniga, arrived at the apartment to load the truck at the appointed time, were extremely pleasant and efficient. Paul drove the truck to Melbourne and arrived at the new home at the appointed time with local help. They unloaded the truck quickly and efficiently and placed items where I needed them. Everything arrived in the same shape it left the apartment. We were extremely pleased and would use again and/or recommend Town & Country to anyone.

A wonderful experience for an extremely stressful situation.
Description of Work: Town & Country Movers provided an estimate for moving our household from Washington, DC to Charlotte, NC. We packed boxes ourselves, too. The estimate was for loading and unloading the van and transporting household goods. The price was very fair and the estimator was professional. They did an excellent job! The moving van arrived on time and 3 men worked all day loading the truck. They took only a short break for lunch during the 100 degree day. All our goods were transported safely and arrived at the scheduled time. I could not have asked for better service.

Two people arrived to pack us on day 1. Because they had fewer people than they estimated, they came an hour early. Still, they were very efficient and had our entire house packed by the early afternoon. Everything was packed with care; we indicated several things that we were concerned about due to fragility, age, and/or value, and they were very careful with everything. A different crew came on day 2 to move us. This also went just fine. The most complicated part during this stage was that we have a baby grand piano which needed some disassembly before loading on the truck. All in all they were careful and fast. We had had the new house painted and refinished the floors, and they left no scratches or dings that needed touch-up. Because they needed less materials for packing and less time for moving than the original estimate, the final price was lower than the estimate.
Description of Work: Town and Country packed our family and moved us to our new home, which was about a 10 minute drive away. They packed all of our belongings including fragile dishes and glassware, and moved everything including our piano. The entire process took 2 days.

The first and the fourth moves were a lot better than the second and third moves in terms of professionalism of the movers, but overall everything was okay. As far as I know, at this point, nothing was damaged (although I haven't unpacked anything from the storage units). The main benefit of using Town & Country was that they were willing to work with me to do some of the moves on very short notice. Some of the drawbacks were that I did not have the sense that the customer service representatives were familiar with my locations even though I had used the company multiple times within a short time-frame; they sent out different moving crews for all four moves; and the moving crew for the third move got seriously lost coming to the house (I found out that this was because they had spelled my house street address incorrectly on their work order, even though they had just been to the house a few weeks earlier). However, these issues are quite minor in comparison to problems that I have had with other moving companies I have used in the past. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with Town & Country's service, they are solid movers who do a decent job. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I hired Town & Country Movers four times in the last two months. The first time involved moving some stuff from a house to an apartment, the second time involved moving from one apartment to another apartment in the same building, the third time involved moving some boxes from a house to a storage facility, and the fourth time involved packing up and moving items from a house to another storage facility. All of the moves were done on an hourly basis, ending up at about $3000 total (not including tips).

The whole process went more quickly and smoothly than expected.
Description of Work: My friend was emptying her aunt's apartment, with various items being delivered to various locations. I was the last of the delivery addresses. The crew was amazingly well trained and worked together with incredible efficiency. They arrived on schedule, loaded everything quickly and were finished with the last delivery in less than four hours. They placed items in different ares of my house, unwrapped the plastic which had been protecting the pieces of furniture, and had everything in place and cleaned up in no time. I did not pay the movers, my friend did, so I am guessing at the cost because the website won't accept my report without a number.

FANTASTIC! John Grimsley, Jr. came to the condo to give us an estimate. He was a very pleasant man and explained their services quite well. After meeting and talking with John and reading the reports on Angie's List, we decided not to ask for other estimates. Their reports all looked very positive and we felt that we would be in good hands. Moving day arrived and 5 pleasant, hard-working men entered our condo. They never stopped; they were constantly wrapping furniture, staging it in the long hallway and putting things into the elevator to take down to the awaiting truck(s). They began working about 9:30 am and they didn't finish until about 12 hours later. All 5 men working constantly and they worked hard all day long. And, they remained very pleasant and very courteous. They were absolutely wonderful. I have a jewelry armoire that holds my mother's jewelry and I just never dealt with sorting through that after her death. I removed the drawers and left the chains/necklaces hanging and told the movers it would be fine because it would be wrapped and padding would be used. At the end of a very long day, the mover in charge noticed that the jewelry that remained in the armoire became tangled and he felt bad and wanted to try to untangle it. I thanked him for everything he and the others had done for us that day and bid him good night. Can you believe that after 12 hours of lifting, moving, packing, sweating, he still wanted to stay and help us untangle jewelry? I can't say enough about Town & Country Movers, Inc. THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB FROM START TO FINISH and we really, really appreciated everything. There was not anything broken or damaged. They were AWESOME!

When another moving company stood us up on a move on a Sunday, totally messing up our lives and schedules, we contacted Town & Country Movers on Monday based on their Angie's List ratings and reports and they arranged for service on Tuesday. The crew of 3 showed up promptly, worked efficiently and courteously, and made the move expeditiously. This crew didn't handle furniture with quite the delicacy and TLC I've seen from other moving crews, but nothing was damaged. The crew only did a minimal amount of wrapping and padding, and I was disappointed that they removed almost all of the wrappings when putting items away in the storage locker, even though I was being charged for the service and cost of that wrapping. The protective wraps should have been left on to protect the items. I've read here on Angie's List of crew who took that kind of care when moving items to a storage locker. I would have given the company straight "A's" but felt that these few small issues were enough to give them the "B's" so they know it is an area that could stand some improvement or quality control.

We did all of our own packing, but Town and Country sent three trucks and 6 men over to move our household. They arrived on time and went right to work. The move was complicated because my husband has an extensive woodworking shop as well as mechanical shop. The day was the hottest of the year so far and when we arrived at the new home there was no power. The foreman of the job immediately had his men working to empty the truck that contained our generator so we could provide power to several other workman on the property. Our belongings were treated with care, the men were clean, helpful, polite, and FAST. They finished the job 3 hours earlier than expected so the move cost $900 less than estimated. Obviously, we tipped them generously. We had considered going with another company whose estimate was cheaper but decided on Town and Country based on the Angie's List reviews and we ended up actually saving money!

Overall, it was a great experience. We had heard a number of moving horror stories. We had also been recently swindled by a carpet salesman so wanted to make sure we did business w/an honest and reputable company. We obtained estimates from 5 moving companies total (2 independents and 3 van lines). T&C's quote was competitive. Blair, our estimator, was extremely professional and a main reason we chose T&C. He was honest, down to earth, and was willing to put in writing everything he told me verbally. He was accessible via cell phone throughout the entire process. He was also the only estimator who told me that I could come witness the weighing if I wanted. In addition to Blair, other staff at T&C were very impressive. Lynda Rothschild responded promptly to all my phone inquires and emails. She was friendly and knowledgeable. Eduardo, the dispatcher, also took my phone calls and was very polite and professional. Even before the truck arrived, we felt good about choosing T&C. The truck arrived on time on the scheduled day. The driver (Jay) and Co-driver (Steve) were polite, professional, and very hard workers. There were 3 other guys to help load the truck, and they too were polite, professional and diligent. What was a nice surprise was that Jay asked if we'd be willing to take our shipment a day early. We had scheduled to have the truck arrive at our new home on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. However, Jay said he could unload on Memorial Day if that worked for us. That worked great for us. Jay and Steve arrived on time and unloaded the truck by themselves. They worked efficiently and had the job done in around 7 hours. The unloading went very smoothly. The only minor issue was that when our bikes were loaded they guy who was in charge of arranging items in the truck took off the back wheels. Jay and Steve, however, were not able to get them back on correctly. We don't fault them. I think the loader should not have taken the back wheels off in the first place. Throughout the entire process we kept saying, "We're glad we chose T&C." They made a very stressful process as smooth as it could be.
Description of Work: Received in home estimate for a long distance move. Estimator walked through the house and asked questions about what was being moved and what wouldn't be moved. We did the packing ourselves. On moving day movers came, inventoried all items, and loaded them into truck. More delicate items were pad wrapped and shrink wrapped. Our antique china cabinet was also wrapped with cardboard and the glass was noted. Beds, crib, and giant desk were disassembled. Everything went smoothly except for two small dings in our walls that I patched quickly w/ drywall compound and touch up painted. Loading was completed in around 6 hours. Driver called while on the road to confirm delivery date. Shipment arrived as scheduled. Driver and co-driver unloaded in around 7 hours. Reassembled all items that needed assembling. Did great job.

All went very well. I had done considerable research on this company, and from start to finish they were professional, careful, courteous. The final bill came in $695 less than the binding estimate. Although their initial estimate was not the lowest, the final bill was lower than the other estimates I had gotten. They showed up on time, worked diligently, quietly, neatly and were done quickly. I had many valuable and delicate things to be packed and moved, including a baby grand piano and several pieces of antique furniture and they handled everything with care. Everything was delivered to the appointed place on time and was unloaded quickly. I have not unpacked the dishes and other breakables so I don't know if anything was broken, but no furniture or large items were mishandled or broken and I've every reason to think that my things are in good condition.

Two things really stand out for the moving crew: (1) Their lead managed to disassemble a Bowflex training machine that I thought I was going to have to mess with, and (2) they moved that and several heavy pieces up to a third floor without ANY complaints. The crew were diligent and worked quickly and quietly and (more important for my wife) did NOT make any marks on any walls moving into the new house. I would definitely call them again.
Description of Work: Here are the highlights. Although the price they quoted me was slightly higher than both Two Guys and a Truck and an individual mover, the coordinator they sent out was the only one who did not "creep me out." He also offered me the 5% discount for Angie's List customers in the form of free $20k insurance coverage (clever, rather than give up money, he offered something that, if his guys did their job properly he would never be at risk for paying). They movers arrived on time and were very efficient. The movers disassembled key pieces of furniture and wrapped things in plastic as was promised, however the wrapping could have been better. Fortunately for us, it was a nice sunny day on the day of the move (no danger of the elements getting past the plastic). The quote given me was for over $1000. Since we had packed most of our things ourselves for a short move, I was happily surprised to get handed a bill that was over $100 LESS than anticipated.

I chose Town and Country Movers because they had a four hour minimum, rather than other companies I researched which had a five hour minimum. They quoted me $130 per hour for four hours over the phone. My one bedroom isn't large and I agreed that would probably be enough time. It ended up taking five hours and I happily paid the extra hour. The original quote for 4 hours at $130 per hour was for $520 and with the extra hour it cost $650. So, when I was presented with a total bill for $920 I was pretty shocked. Other than the price, the service was very good however. The bed was put into a bag and the clothes were put into wardrobe boxes at no extra charge. Some of the other companies I researched were charging $2 each for boxes and tape and that sort of thing. So it was a relief not to have to think about that with this company and know it was all included.

These movers were a dream come true. They showed up at the appointed day and time with their large truck. It turned out that there wasn't enough room for turning on my street so they brought down a smaller truck. Jose, the man in charge was excellent, he took notes and marked all items, then had them wrapped and moved onto the truck. They were loaded up in 3 1/2 hours. Then they went to our storage facility to pick up additional items and from there went back to their own facility to load everything onto the large truck, including one of our cars. This was on the 22nd of March. We requested to have our furniture delivered on the 28th in Austin, TX. Jose called us on the evening of the 27th to make sure we were ready and arrived at our new house on the 28th at 8:30 AM. Everything was in the same condition upon arrival as it was when picked up. Nothing was broken or scratched. We could not have asked for a better mover.

Overall, it went well. The movers showed up on time, they were respectful & helpful. They broke two (inexpensive) lamps and slightly damaged one piece of furniture but otherwise they did a fine job with the furniture & car. The load arrived one day late, which posed a problem in that I had reserved an elevator, especially since I had to track them down to find this out.

Extremely pleased with the experience - packing the truck from both locations took about 5 hours, and was very efficient. They were flexible enough to take a queen mattress and box spring from the first location to exchange it with the one we wanted to take with us, located at the second pick up house. As mentioned, the supervisor was on site both days, he spoke excellent English, and answered any questions I had. The men were very well trained in wrapping the furniture to protect it, very careful about not hitting doorways or nicking things, nothing dropped, and everything arrived in the same condition it left. At the destination in Pittsburgh, they took about 4 hours to unpack, and were again flexible to help figure out furniture arrangements, put boxes in various rooms as directed, etc. I was recommended this company and would myself recommend them as well. The price was no higher or lower than other companies who also bid on the job.
Description of Work: Company had to pick up our furniture and prepacked boxes from two locations, to move us from Chevy Chase and Northwest DC to Pittsburgh. Unlike other companies, they agreed to pack the truck one day and deliver our goods the next day. The same supervisor handled the pickup as well as the driving and delivery the following day (Ronnie).

The movers were helpful and courteous. The team leader was a bit brusque and demanding, asserting that I was wrong about something fitting into a spot even though I told him I had measured. Of course, I was wrong about another item that DIDN'T fit, but what happened to "the customer is always right"? Or at least politeness? They were very careful of walls (we had just painted, I told them) and other objects. The leader also assumed we would be taking care of some things like dismantling the stereos, TVs, etc. but was somewhat impatient with the speed of our work. We suspect he was trying to hurry to not exceed the estimate, but we agreed there was more work than they had anticipated.
Description of Work: Moved furniture, etc. from an apartment to a house. Moved furniture already in the house around to accommodate the apartment furnishings. (Merging two persons' homes). They then moved bedroom furniture from the house to a local relative's home. They did have a lot of moving within the house and took longer than they had planned (may have been poor communication or underestimating on our parts when we talked to their office person who wrote up the contract). They worked without a break from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They worked speedily; the "team leader" spoke English but the other two workers did not seem to understand. This was sometimes a bit of a problem.
