Movers arrived at 7 AM. Start time was moved up a couple of hours because of very hot weather forecast that day (almost 100 degrees). Upon arrival and reviewing the items to be moved, the foreman advised that they wouldn't move plants or pictures despite the fact that these items were specifically pointed out to the salesman when he surveyed and estimated the job. After I called the salesman to report the problem the items were eventually moved (but even then the foreman was not happy about it). About 90 minutes into the move I observed that a significant amount of oil and other fluids were leaking from the truck's engine onto our driveway and sidewalk. I pointed this out to the foreman and he said the truck had been in the shop but that "it was supposed to be fixed". Cardboard was placed under the engine but the damage was already done to the asphalt and concrete. I called the salesman to report the damage and he asked to talk to the foreman - the foreman told him "the mechanics never listen to us." It is incomprehensible that a reputable firm would send a leaking truck to a customer's property and not ensure that the leaks were fixed (how hard would it have been to place the cardboard under it upon arrival to ensure that it wasn't leaking, and why wasn't it checked after arrival?). Damage was done to the asphalt and concrete at the house as well as at the storage unit and the condo where furniture was ultimately delivered. The damages were not properly repaired/stains removed - when I advised the company rep he said it would be referred to claims, but I never received a call back from them. Movers had difficulty lifting furniture down the stairs (furniture was dropped on each step as they came down). Perhaps the hot weather sapped their energy, but this same furniture had been easily moved up the stairs several years earlier. Some of the crew had a very limited understanding of English. Paid for 30-45 minute lunch break by movers (@ $220/hr). None of the furniture was broken.
Description of Work: Moved household furnishings from a single family home in Olney, MD to 2-BR condo in Rockville, MD. Furnishings comprised 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room and den furnishings. Dropped 4 items off at storage unit en route to the condo.

We got 3 bids and just couldn't decide which one was best. That's when we joined Angie's list. One bidder was ranked a "C", another one was ranked "B". Town & Country was ranked "A" so we chose them even though they cost the most. We don't regret paying more for the quality work that was done. There were 3 packers, even though we were told 4 would show up. And there should have been 4 packers on the packing day. that made the day longer for the 3. There where 4 movers on the move day. The same team of 3 was with us both days. And I really mean TEAM. They work together and you could really tell they enjoyed each others company. The team leader was just that a leader. It was very obvious that he was respected and liked. Not many people can say that about their managers. It was unbelievably hot, (90's) on the day of the move but there were no complaints and they worked very hard at a steady pace. Having owned a business I would have been happy to have had this team of guys working for me. We have already recommended this firm to others preparing to move.

We have used Town & Country for two moves and could not be happier with their services. Their prices are incredibly reasonable and the movers are efficient and helpful. They helped us with a broken closet door and put pads under legs of furniture that was on the hardwood floor in addition to moving all of our furniture and belongings. The company is always responsive and helpful on the phone as well. If we were moving again we would definitely call them and would recommend them to anyone.

We came to know them from a real estate agent. We had a wonderful moving crew. They were very nice and well mannered men. They were quite good and so was the estimator. They had the best price of all the people that we had interviewed. We would certainly interview them in the future if we were going to move.

The condo board cannot speak for what occurred in the individual condo owner's unit. This report deals only with what occurred in the condominium's common areas -- namely the hallway and freight elevator. When the Town and Country movers arrived around 10 a.m. on February 4, the front desk clerk reminded them to place a protective covering over the hallway carpets. The movers responded that they would do so once they were actually ready to start moving boxes out of the unit. Three hours later, the same front desk clerk went up to the 5th floor to check, and when she did not see any protective floorboards, tarp or dropcloths, she knocked on the door of the unit. The T&C mover who answered told her that they would put down a protective covering in a little while. An hour later she went to the unit again, but was told the movers still weren't ready to lay the protective covering. At about 3 p.m., the front desk clerk received a report (which she confirmed) that the movers were moving heavy trolleys down the 5th floor corridor with only a single layer of a single width (about two feet wide) of shrink wrap covering the floor. There is no traction for shrink wrap on carpeting, and the packing tape that was being used to tape it down to the carpet was causing the thin layer to split and shred. Two trolleys were passing each other in the hallway -- neither one on "protective covering". At this point, the condo board had to get involved. Two condo board members rang the unit's doorbell untl a T&C mover answered. They asked to speak to whoever was in charge. The man replied that he was the supervisor. The condo board members introduced themselves and said T&C had to put down an appropriate protective covering on the carpets. This supervisor responded that T&C did not have any coverings, and besides if the carpets were that valuable, the condominium itself should provide the covering. The board members were surprised and said professional moving companies always carried plywood planks, tarp, drop cloths or rolls of felt carpeting with them to protect floors and carpets. One of the board members asked the supervisor for his name. He refused to give it. We asked him to please call his home office so that we could speak with someone there. He refused, claiming he had no cell phone. The other board member said she would use her cellphone, if he would give her the phone number. The supervisor then said T&C had no main number to call. This supervisor continued to insist his crew had nothing to cover the carpet with, except a single roll of shrink wrap. After about 20 minutes of discussing this -- during which time the supervisor spoke in Spanish to the other mover and said "don't worry, these women will go away just like the fat one who kept coming earlier" -- we told our front desk clerk to shut down the freight elevator and that nothing was to be moved out of the condo unit. Our clerk went down to tell the other workers in the truck, returning with another T&C employee. We introduced ourselves and asked who he was. He said that HE was the supervisor. So we looked at the other guy and asked, well then who is he? This second "supervisor" just shrugged. We asked this second supervisor for his name. He refused. We asked for a phone number to call. He refused to give one. Finally, the board told T&C and the condo owner that there would be no move until an appropriate protective covering was placed over the 75 feet of hallway carpeting. Things came to a standstill, until a third worker (i.e. not one of the two "supervisors") started breaking down cardboard boxes and taping them to the carpet. There was already a dirty grease mark where one of the trolleys had been standing. We thanked him for trying to solve the problem. At that point, the second supervisor went with our front desk clerk down to the loading dock. The first supervisor continued to harangue the board members for not knowing what they were talking about, for being pushy, etc. In between, he was also speaking Spanish to his colleague who was laying down the cardboard covering -- thinking we did not understand what he was saying. About 15 minutes later, the second supervisor returned with -- lo and behold -- an armful of felt runners and drop cloths! T&C had had these in their truck the entire time. All Town and Country had been asked to do since 10 a.m. that morning was produce these protective coverings. An hour of everyone's time wouldn't have been wasted, and the board members wouldn't have had to listen to a bunch of offensive remarks in Spanish. As a Spanish speaker, I admit that once this unpleasant episode was over with, I told the supposed first supervisor that he could insult motherhood all he wanted, because clearly he was merely a mean son of a b****. I understand that Town and Country enjoys an excellent reputation. Maybe everybody was just having a bad hair day. Nonetheless, based on what our front desk clerks and two board members experienced, Town and Country will not be welcome in this building again. Any company which sends out a crew with no names, employees who impersonate supervisors, who lie about there being no phone numbers at the main office, employees who are crude in their native language when they think others don't understand, and who insist they have no protective carpet coverings when in fact they do, etc. needs to take a serious look at its hiring and training practices.
Description of Work: Town and Country movers were hired by an individual owner at a condo building where I am the chairman of the board. T&C was to pack personal items, artwork, and furniture from this unit, place the boxes on trolleys, take them approximately 75 feet down the hallway, and load them onto a freight elevator. The condo board only had to get involved after the T&C crew refused requests from both front desk clerks to place a protective covering over the hallways carpet. Not only did the Town and Country employees refuse to give their names, two different men claimed to be the crew supervisor, but neither would call the home office ("we have no cell phones") or give the board members the phone number to call on their own cell phones. It required three "visits" to the unit and two prolonged, unpleasant negotiations before one of the movers finally went down to the truck and came up with appropriate hallway coverings -- which they had had all along. Town and Country will not be welcome in this building again.

We give Town & Country the highest marks for professionalism, courtesy, efficiency and customer service. When we looked through Angie?s List for movers, we emailed several prospective companies explaining that our requirements were a bit unusual. Even though we only had a two-bedroom apartment, we had been in it more than 20 years and had an extensive collection of books, LPs, figurines and art to be moved along with our furniture. Every other company we contacted ignored our information and sent a boilerplate reply saying that a two-bedroom apartment could be moved in four hours; only Town & Country replied saying they would send someone to see our place and give us a personalized estimate. Once they had done so, they quoted us a much more reasonable estimate of 8-9 hours and gave us a very affordable price. They were also already familiar with our new building and were able to give us advice and tips on moving in, reserving the freight elevators and so on. On moving day they arrived exactly on time, moved out our things with unbelievable efficiency and speed (carrying three book boxes at a time!), took one brief lunch break and moved us in just as smoothly. They took our furniture into our rooms for us and made sure it was where we wanted it, and even carried my rosebushes onto the balcony for me. The crew was polite, careful, pleasant to deal with, and made a stressful situation much easier. I?m glad we chose Town & Country and would recommend this company to anyone without hesitation.

The move went very smoothly. The men were very professional and well trained. The driver of the truck was in charge of the workers at both the pick-up and delivery site. He was very personable and organized. He made sure that all items were packed and accounted for at delivery. He put together everything, including an adjustable bed, computer desk set-up, and large flat screen tv and the media cabinet. Everything arrived safely, including the many boxes and plastic containers that we had packed. I was very pleased with the service. The bid by this company was based on estimate of weight and the estimate was binding. I didn't feel that we had the total weight as the company estimated but we felt we would receive the best service from Town and Country Movers. We did receive excellent service.

The movers arrived on time (I think there were 3 or 4 guys). They wrapped furniture to protect it and provided wardrobe boxes (a nice touch!). They were extremely nice and professional. We booked with them very late, but they have a big fleet of trucks apparently and could accommodate us. I was surprised, because it was so close to Christmas. They quoted a price around $850, which I thought was expensive. However, it didn't take them as long to move the stuff as they anticipated, and they automatically adjusted the price downward--which I was super pleased over (I've had other companies stretch out the work to get every last cent they quoted me). They were quick, efficient, and careful with her stuff. I couldn't have been happier.

We hired two movers to help us unload SAMs (like PODS) at our new house. I had expected the job to take at least 6 hours; these guys finished in 3.....they were *fast*. They were so fast that they also then helped us unload a U-Haul and did that under an hour. I called around and while Town and Country wasn't the cheapest option, I couldn't be happier with how quickly these guys worked or how professional they were.

Mark came to the house, gave me an estimate of how many boxes we would need and an estimate for the move itself. He was very friendly, and made jokes the whole time to put me at ease. We ended up buying the boxes from them, which were delivered about a week before the move, packed ourselves, and then had the Town and Country crew do the actual move. The price for the boxes and the move actually came in under estimate, and we didn't have to pay for unused boxes. The move itself was the best reason to use Town and Country. The three man crew was great. They moved fast and professionally and wrapped all of the furniture in blankets and shrink wrap. I don't think that they took a single break. When we hit an unexpected snag - the box spring for our queen-sized bed wouldn't fit up the stairs in the new house, the crew went out of their way to help, taking the fabric off of the box spring, cutting the frame enough to bend it, getting it upstairs, and then providing brackets to screw the whole thing back together again. Needless to say, we were pathetically grateful. Throughout the experience, everyone I dealt with was helpful, polite, and on time. I would definitely recommend and use Town and Country again.
Description of Work: We moved from an two bed apartment in Gaithersburg to a three bed townhouse in Germantown. Town & Country provided an in-house estimate, delivered boxes and packing supplies, and a three-man crew on moving day. They took away all of the unused boxes at the end.

Overall, the move was significantly easier than we expected. We had packed all of our possessions, and moved a few carloads of breakables ahead of time. All told, we had about 50 boxes plus all of our furniture to move. The movers arrived at the appointed time and got to work immediately. The three guys had a great system going that made the loading very quick. Once they were done loading, they drove up to the new place and immediately got to work unloading. They made sure to ask where we wanted everything, and only a few boxes were in the wrong place once it was all finished. Nothing was broken, and nothing damaged - though again, we took framed prints, crystal items, and similar breakables on our own. They charged us for one hour of travel (which I was told in advance), and the time spent loading and unloading. They worked so quickly that the cost at the end was less than we had budgeted - probably the only thing related to buying a house, moving, and furnishing said house that came in below our penciled-in estimate. Simply put, I wouldn't hesitate to hire Town and Country again. I just hope I won't have to move again for a long, long time.

A company representative came to our house for an on site estimate. We were given a "not to exceed" estimate for $3500 for an estimated 9.5 hours of work to complete the move. We packed the smaller items which could fit into boxes ourselves. All packing materials for items which we did not pack ourselves were included in the estimate price. The movers packed all of our clothing into wardrobe boxes which was also included in the price. The movers arrived on time and comlpleted the job in 9.5 hours. They were very professional. The final charge was $3385 (below estimate). I would HIGHLY recommend them. DO NOT USE ANY COMPANY THAT DOES NOT GIVE YOU A "NOT TO EXCEED" ESTIMATE AND DOES NOT GIVE YOU AN ESTIMATE WHICH INCLUDES PACKING MATERIALS. We have had bad experiences with these type of movers. It is tempting to go with them because they tend to have lower estimates. DO NOT be tempted they will rip you off. (see my comments for Original Moving and Storage on Angies List)

Movers arrived half an hour late, but they packed everything up very efficiently. The next day they left at 4 a.m. in order to arrive at the destination by 8 a.m. Unpacking went well and they were very cooperative and helpful, especially with getting the large pieces of furniture properly leveled. However, they used a packing technique with the desk and file cabinets of stuffing paper into the drawers and then wrapping the furniture in plastic. All the furniture arrived safe and sound, including the fragile items. But the drawers were kind of helter skelter and had to be unpacked and reordered. The file cabinets were a big problem. Despite that, the service was pretty satisfactory.
Description of Work: Packed up furniture, including fragile glass cabinets, and boxes and boxes of books and loaded it all on the truck. Next day drove the four hours to destination and unpacked, placing furniture where asked. They leveled furniture where needed and unpacked some boxes, but not the boxes of books.

My mother was dying in hospice. From 700 miles away I was able to contact Town & Country, describe my needs, and receive a quote. When she passed away, T&C was able to come to her assisted living apartment within a week, and collected the important furniture. For a family with scattered members, and at a very stressful time, their responsiveness and willingness to conduct business via email was extremely important and hugely appreciated.

This is a very good company. They did the work for slightly less than the estimate. The packers took great care with all of our belongings and gave us good advice on how to group things so that we could find them upon unpacking. They were pleasant to deal with and made a stressful experience much less so with their good humor and professionalism. The next day, two moving trucks and a 5-man crew led by Orlando came and quickly moved everything. They had to disassemble several pieces of furniture to get them down from our top floor, but did so without complaining. They even moved some things down to our garage that were going to be donated to the Salvation Army. On moving in, they put everything where we asked. There were a couple of small marks made in the stairwell which I wish hadn't happened, but that was the only problem with the whole move.

I am so pleased with the service I received from Town & Country! Jackie provided me an estimate, and also gave me excellent tips on ways to cut costs (packing my things myself; purchasing my own moving boxes; creative ideas on packing pictures, etc.) The day of the move Joaquin and his crew arrived earlier than I expected - in fact I wasn't quite ready for them, but that didn't matter. Joaquin put me at ease immediately, and assured me throughout that entire day that they were there to take care of me and my things. He told me that he would probably be the one to drive the truck across the country, and that it would take 10 to 12 days. I was driving across the country myself, and 2 days before I was to arrive in California, Joaquin called to ask if I would be ready in 2 days for my stuff. YES!! I met him at my storage unit, and he recommended that I get a larger unit than I had, because while he could fit my stuff in, it would be very difficult to move around and find anything. So I did, and everything worked out quite nicely. I am so so happy with the serivce I received from Town & Country and I don't hesitate to give them an excellent reference and recommend them to anyone contemplating a move across the country!

Overall, we had a good experience with T and C. Their packers were professional and fast. They packed us up on a Thursday, and picked up the boxes on a Friday, the same day as the delivery at the new house. The unpacking went fairly smoothly, with the exception of a few scratches on the walls. Otherwise, they efficiently put together our furniture, placed it where we asked, and were respectful of the property.

The packers arrived Saturday and packed all of the belongings we hadn't already packed. Monday they returned, loaded the truck, and delivered our items to the new house. Both teams (the packers and the movers) were great. The packers were very conscientious to avoid breakage, although they overlooked packing a handful of random items. The movers were likewise cautious to avoid damage, and paid good attention to placing boxes in their designated rooms. The two teams were professional and worked hard. The final cost came in just below the estimate.
Description of Work: Moved two apartments in same building into a single family house 3 miles away.
