Overall, great experience from start to finish. Quote: The quote we received was conservative (i.e. they quoted us 6-7 hrs and the movers ended up taking 5 hrs). The sales representative was responsive and clear with all the charges, including a 5% Angie's List discount. Two days before moving, a sales representative called to make sure no changes were needed with the move. Just in case we needed boxes, they decided to bring boxes in the truck at no cost to us. Moving Day: Carlos, Emilio, and Reuben were fantastic. They arrived exactly on time (8:30 am) and immediately got to work surveying the move and how well the boxes were packed. Subsequently, the allocated roles and the rest was history. The move out took approximately 3 hrs, while the move in took approximately 2 hrs. The crew was very courteous, professional, and efficient. My wife was pregnant and they would NOT let her do anything...in one case, they moved a couch on which she was sitting, only to replace it with anoth chair. Scored lots of points for that. Thus far, nothing was broken, all screws were intact, and they had no problem putting back together any of the furniture they had to break down (this has not always been the case with other moves we have had). Summary: Great move, very professional, and price competitive. I highly recommended Town & Country.
Description of Work: Town & Country provided me with a local move. We packed primarily all the boxes and thus the movers were only required to load the boxes along with some furniture into their truck and then unload at the destination point.

They were fantastic. The rep that came to give the estimate was extremely friendly and patient with my thousands of questions. The day of the move, the guys showed up right on time and worked hard all day. I couldn't get them to take a break--they were very focused and professional. And they were very understanding when there was a mix-up with the loading dock area of my apartment building and they had to move the truck in the middle of loading it. There were no complaints or even groans when they discovered my new apartment was a 3rd floor walk-up (no elevator). They also were really nice about helping me get my furnture just where I wanted it in my new place. Everything arrived in perfect condition. The entire event (from start of packing to completion) took just 7 hours. The actual cost ended up being about $300 less than the original estimate. It was the best moving experience ever.
Description of Work: They packed my entire 600 sqft apartment and moved everything to a new apartment (local move).

The estimate was within normal range and done promptly. We selected them based on the rave reviews on Angies List and were not disappointed. After I received the estimate, we decided to give some of our furniture to a neighbor whose house had burned to the ground. Town & Country agreed to move the donated furniture and items to their temporary rental house the following day at a minimal charge, despite the 20+ mile distance of the additional location. Jose and his crew arrived the day before the move and packed up our entire house in 4 hours - these guys never took a break! They packed everything so beautifully that not a single item was affected at all by the move. The day of the move they arrived promptly at 8:30am, and carefully sealed and protected our furniture. They did not scratch a single piece of furniture or even brush up against the walls of either house when removing and placing the furniture. They were especially careful of the refinished wood floors in the new house - they picked everything up carefully and placed it where I asked them to - not a scrape or scratch on my new floors. I have never seen such hard-working people - they moved steadily and finished the entire move by 3pm. In that time they also assembled our beds and unpcked our TVs to make sure all was well. They were patient when I was indecisive about where I wanted furniture or items placed, and asked me to double check to make sure everything was placed where I wanted it before they left. The cost was exactly as estimated - no surprises. Best of all, after the move was complete and I signed off the paperwork and written the check,my daughter arrived home from high school - her car piled high with belongings she kept apart so she could move them herself. Despite being off-the-clock, the crew offered to help us with moving her things - definitely above and beyond what anyone could expect. What a terrific experience!
Description of Work: Packed up 4-bedroom colonial home and moved us to another house about 10 miles away. Also moved additional items to another home about 20 miles away.

The movers were courteous, helpful (I was still packing odds and ends when they arrived), and professional. They took care with the boxes, and nothing was broken. Even though this move was not a great distance, it involved many boxes and a fair amount of furniture. They disassembled and reassembled beds expertly and double checked to see where everything should go. It was a very positive experience.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from the company to move a four bedroom house to a town house with three bedrooms. I asked the agent to have the movers at my home by 12 noon. They came promptly at 11:50 am. I had packed everything prior to their arrival, so that their loading the truck, driving about five miles to the new house, and unloading the boxes took between four and a half to five hours.

The Town & Country sales rep came by about a week before the move and provided a price quote and scheduled the move. The crew from Town & Country arrived promptly on moving day and immediately went to work packing two trucks. All the furniture was wrapped and placed in the truck to avoid damage. The piano was fully wrapped and carefully moved. Everything was moved to the destination and properly placed without any damage. The crew did some additional packing at the old house and a tight staircase to the basement at the destination slowed the move somewhat. so it actually took about 1.5 hours more that the estimate. The price was great and the service was outstanding. I would use Town & Country again and I certainly recommend them to any doing a local move in the DC area.

The initial quote was for $3300, which included all packing. I ended up packing all items myself and saved, with another discount, about $700. From the first call, the company was responsive, helpful and always puntucal. The moving team was excellent and they had my furnishings in Florida on the fourth day. With any move (and I've had many) there are always a few items that are damaged with a scratch or a break. On this one, there were only a few very minor items damaged, but it was so insignificant it wasn't worth my time to bother with. T&C did an outstanding job and I highly recommend them based on price and service.

I first met with Mark G. for an in-house estimate. Mark was very friendly and easy to talk to. On the day of the move, the crew of 3, lead my Carlos I believe, arrived at 9:05 AM. I was still scrambling to finish packing. I met them outside and brought them up to my apartment, and gave them the lay of the land. They got started immediately. They wrapped all of my wooden furniture with blankets and plastic wrap. I don't remember if the leather couch and recliner were wrapped or not, but I did request it to make sure it did not get dirty. The finished loading their truck at 9:35, then followed me up to the new place. They finished unloading at 1:35, 30 mins faster than the estimate. Overall everything went smooth, I noticed some small marks on a couple of items, but I don't fault them, it's just part of the move, as I have moved myself and my sister more times than I can remember. The crew were very fast, efficient, and hard working. I will definitely recommend them to everyone and will use them again whenever I move from my current place. I would like to thank Mark, his office workers, and Carlos and his guys for everything and making a stressful day less stressful.
Description of Work: I had my one bedroom apartment moved from Alexandria, VA to Gaithersburg, MD. Everything was packed by me, the movers wrapped and loaded their truck, then unloaded and unwrapped. Total time involved 4.5 hrs.

The crew arrived on the scheduled time and day and unloaded our entire household of belongings from 4 storage units onto their moving truck. The crew arrived at our new home in Maine exactly on time and had the entire truck unpacked in under 6 hours. We found the crew to be very professional, courteous, and easy to work with. They treated our expensive furniture, artwork, and numerous other fragile objects with great care. We would not hesitate to recommend Town and Country Movers to anyone seeking great service at a reasonable price. :-)

We had a great experience. From the start, we had one point of contact, Blair Parler, whose weight estimate came in almost right on the nose. Packing materials arrived within 24 hours of our calls. The packers and movers arrived on-time and ready to work. Blair also recommended an experienced senior moving management service, Transitional Assistance and Design, Gaithersburg, MD, to organize our move, develop a floor plan, code and tag furniture going into the new house according to the plan, and coordinate packing with the movers. The moving manager and T&C worked quickly and smoothly together. The movers packed the insured breakables and TAD took care of the non-breakables. They used mountains of recyclable paper and other packing materials. To save time and money, we packed our own books and some personal things. The only broken item was one we packed ourselves. Without Blair's recommendation, we would have had no idea that such moving management services existed. If you cannot lift heavy stuff on your own and can afford it, it makes the difference between being merely totally overwhelmed at the enormity of leaving a house after thirty years and having a complete collapse. We had a second senior organizer on the NC end, Moving Elders with Ease, owned by Susan Stanhope, Raleigh, NC, directing the movers according to the floor plan and providing a team to unpack and organize garage and attic storage. They got estimates for shutters, termite system, etc, before we arrived, bought and assembled garage storage units, and left us more settled than we could have expected after three days of constant work. They were incredibly hardworking, upbeat and thoughtful. All this help was not inexpensive. Altogether, we spent about $17,000 for the entire move, but we would have needed to pay for additional services from Town & Country without it. Not quite a wash, but an acceptable tradeoff, given the size of the move. We would recommend Town & Country without hesitation. They are honest, reliable, and pleasant. The on-site manager, Blas, was extremely personable, as well as efficient. He meticulously inventoried everything that went on the truck in Bethesda and off in NC. The only criticism I could make is that only two T&C movers traveled to NC. They picked up two contract workers on the NC end, who spoke no English and misplaced some of the carefully-tagged furniture and boxes, thus requiring additional time and effort by Susan and her crew after the movers left. This would have been a huge problem if we had been left without any lifting help. An additional T&C mover or better screening would have helped.
Description of Work: T&C moved us from Bethesda, MD to the Chapel Hill, NC, area. It was a large move (22,000 pounds) and included a grand piano. We had estimates from two other companies. T&C was in the middle, but was the only one that guaranteed an upper cost limit. T&C provided an extra-large van, insurance, a senior discount, all kinds of packing materials and wardrobes, packing of breakables, an on-site supervisor who inventoried and oversaw the loading and traveled in the van to NC over a weekend to supervise the unloading following an early Monday a.m. closing. They coordinated on both ends with specialized.moving managers for seniors, who, on the basis of their their recommendation, provided comprehensive organizing, tagging and design services on both ends of the move.

I contact several movers to get competitive prices, etc. The office folks were responsive and prompt. The company representative came out to survey our office and provide a quote. Very professional. Gave me a verbal quote and followed up with a written quote the next day (as promised). Our current landlord had several 'hurdles' for movers -- they could only move after hours (after 5pm on weekdays or on weekends), -- movers needed to provide a certificate of insurance (COI), and -- movers needed to put protective materials on common-area floors and walls. All of these items were handled with no problem. The quote was for two 26' trucks and a crew of 4 people (one working supervisor). They said they could get the job done in ~5 hours. Their price was competitive. On the day of the move, a crew of 4 people (one was a working supervisor) showed up about 15 minutes early to survey the area. They worked with the building manager to get access to the loading dock, etc. After that, they put material on the floors, walls and inside the elevator. The load-out was done in about 2 hours. At the last minute, we asked them to take a couple of extra items, which they handled with no problem. When they were done loading the trucks (one full, on about half-full), they retrieved all of their material from the floors and walls, and left the place clean. The new location was on the second floor, and there was no elevator. The heavier items (computer rack, big copier/printer) were a struggle to get up the stairs. The team was careful with all of our stuff up the stairs and not hit wall, etc. They always asked were I wanted the bigger pieces, and moved them into position. In the end, it took about 2.5 hours to unload. A couple of points I'd like to stress. The entire outfit appears very well run. I've moved on several occasions, and these folks were one of the better companies I have dealt with. Also, the building manager of the building we were moving out of commented to me that these were the best movers he seen in the 5 years he'd been working at this building.
Description of Work: They moved our (small) office of furniture (desks, bookshelves, boxes) and computer equipment (desktop PCs, monitors, one computer rack, servers (in boxes)) to a new location.

Town and Country Movers were incredible. From the second they came to my house to pack my breakables, until the moment they were finished moving the last piece of furniture into my new house. They were so professional, neat and careful with all of my things.Everything they packed was done so carefully, I could never have done it like that myself. When I went to unpack all the things they packed for me, the boxes were labeled so clearly and left in all the proper rooms, it made my life so much easier. They took so much care with all my furniture. I watched so much of what they were doing and they were so careful moving around corners, in confined spaces and going through doorways not to leave any marks. They made sure all furniture was placed in the proper rooms in mynew house and arranged it where I asked them too. My old house was left in beautiful condition and my new house was also left as perfect as it was before they came. Louis Martinez, my head mover, was absolutely amazing. He even unpacked all my wall pictures, which were bulky and heavy. He was so nice, friendly and trustworthy. I would recommend Town and Country to anyone looking for a mover who is professional, punctual, trustworthy, immaculate, careful and just overall fabulous. I really can't say enough about how great they are!!
Description of Work: I used Town and Country Movers to pack my breakables which included my dishes, glasses, silverware, pictures, and any other glass items. They also moved all my furniture. I moved to a different state. They came early one morning, at the exact time they told me they would arrive. Started by packing all of my breakables. They were very quick and efficient. Then they moved all my furniture. They wrapped everything in cellophane which was wonderful, so nothing would get dirty. This took quite a bit of time, as they took wonderful care of my things. They loaded up the truck. The next morning they brought the truck to my new house and unloaded everything. Undid the cellophane, placed the funiture where I asked them too. They brought the boxes into my house and put them into the rooms that were labeled on the boxes. They were very neat, as boxes and cellophane were removed from furniture, they threw the trash away immediately. Once they were done, my house was left in perfect condition.

Description of Work: Company packed my apartment in Bethesda, and moved all contents (not appliances which belonged to apartment), and my office at the NIH to our home in upstate New York. They were right on time in Bethesda, packed quickly and well, locaed truck. Extremelly polite and courteous. Scheduled to arrive at 8 a.m. in New York and the door bell rang exactly at 8 a.m. in pouring rain. Unloaded quickly--got a thick king-sized mattress up the spiral staricase. Could not have been more accurate, polite and on time. Not one single little trinket or dish was scraped or damaged. They were so great it almost makes me want to move again to use them! If they are available, nobody should use anybody else!

Well, my husband researched movers. He even went and looked at the facility. They were fabulous. We had to change our dates because our closing changed and they did that. The pricing was fair. The guys were professional. They packed our stuff and moved it. They did a great job. We ended up in a situation where we could not move in when we were suppose to because our closing date changed and they held our stuff in a truck for us and I think it was with no charge. The same person who packed our stuff was the one who drove down here and unpacked it. They were phenomenal. When we got here we had a problem, we could not close when we were suppose to. We had been here at 8:00 am in the morning and they had to sit outside with the truck until 1:00 pm in the afternoon that’s when we were able to finish our closing. They were great; no dance in the house and no dance on the furniture. There was no damage. The price was good. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: We used the services of Town & Country Movers Inc. The last time we used their services was in September of 2010, that’s when we moved here. It costed us $6000 for the move.

We were very fortunate to be able to use Town & Country Movers. This was the third time we used the Company for our home; and it was the fourth time I've worked with them (used them once before with an office move). The staff all customer centric. They literally amazed my family as they worked with minimal break and interruption. Loading everything on the trucks, making certain all items were placed properly and safely before transporting, and then once at our new home, taking equal care to make certain items were place where we intended for them to be located. The movers were very friendly; and it was clear they were proud to be part of the Town & County Team -- there were no slouchers, they were active as busy bees. Reasonable breaks were taken, but it wasn't for the desire to slack off, it was a hot day -- and they needed the breaks. The strength displayed was phenomenal. The training they must receive has to be top notch -- these guys carried a large refrigerator/freezer; a large filing cabinet and other large furnishings on their backs -- and nothing, not a thing, was damaged. And, finally, we had a grand piano, which requires delicate handling in all moves. As with everything else -- the Team excelled in making certain the piano was properly disassembled, moved and reassembled. The anxiety of moving is difficult for all parties. I must say, that with Town & Country not only gave us a sense of comfort, but also a sense of security as our belongings were entrusted to their able care. We recommend them to anyone contemplating a move!

Due to life craziness we needed to find movers, on Friday, that could move us on Saturday = less than 24 hours notice! Town & Country Movers quote was about the same amount as three other companies we called and was available on our unreasonable schedule. They estimated that two trucks and four people would be required to move our ~2000 sq. ft. house, and that they would arrive Saturday morning between 8:30 and 9:30am. Saturday morning at 8:00am they were at our front door apologizing for being early but they were concerned about getting done before Hurricane Irene hit the area. Four guys moved fast! They provided load/unload (we had done our own packing) for us in under 4 hours and did finish before the storm hit so nothing even really got wet from the rain. Nothing they moved was damaged and neither house was damaged. I would use them again (although I hope I never actually have to move again - but that's because moving is bad, not because they were) and tipped each worker for their effort.

The movers were professional and efficient. They did a great job wrapping our furniture. There were mix up at the apartment so we were unable to use the elevator and loading dock for the first half of the loading. The movers were nice enough to accommodate to what is available and loaded the truck quickly on a really hot day. The only thing about the movers is that they were late on the delivery date by 5 hours. The driver explained that he was sick the night before and couldn't drive earlier. I can understand that. But the additional delay was because they couldn't find a road on Long Island for trucks and he kept asking us for directions. As a professional mover, they should have prepared the route ahead of time. We don't know the routes either since we just moved here. Also, we were a little uncomfortable when we were given the impression that we didn't tip enough. We bought them lunch and water for both days and we tipped according to the representative at Town and Country. The lousy overall experience is mainly due to the argument about the price. When I contacted Town and Country, the sales rep Ryan asked me to send him a list of things that need to be moved. I don't move often so I missed some furniture and number of boxes on my list. Ryan said it's about 3000 pounds and it will be $3000. I emailed him again specifically to ask for an in-person estimate and he said it's not necessary. It turned out the estimate was way too low, the shipment is actually 4000 pounds. And it's $4300 not $3000 as quoted. I complained to the manager about this. She said it was all my fault for not sending Ryan a complete list. Also, she said that I had to move those 4000 pounds anyway so why does it matter. It matters because I budgeted for $3000, if I knew it was $4000, then I would have budgeted for that and bought less new furniture or spent less on other things. Also, the other companies I called all gave me a lower quote but I chose Town and Country because they got good reviews. The manager made me feel lousy and horrible about this whole ordeal. In the end, she took $300 off, so we paid $4000.
Description of Work: Moved from a one bedroom apartment in Rockville, Maryland to Setauket, New York. Truck was loaded on 7/1 and was delivered and unloaded on 7/2. Since it's long distance move, it's priced by pounds of shipment and not hours.

I was moving with limited time and Town and Country was the only one able to accommodate my move in less than one week. I had an estimator come into my home and to be quite honest I wasn't that pleased with the estimator and was planning to go with an alternative company. Because I had limited time, Town and Country was the only one able to do it on such short notice. I had 3 movers with the lead mover being Benito. He and his crew were punctual and professional. They showed up on time, listened to my concerns and was able to move me within an hour. They never stopped moving from the time they started. They don't necessarily wrap furniture unless you ask them to which was a bit surprising as i found out half way through since I was still packing while they were actually moving. My items were brought to a storage unit approx one hour away and all went well. In terms of negatives, I would say the estimator being nonchalant including her placing advertisements around my apt unit which to me was inappropriate given that you hadn't even completed a job for me at that point, but I guess at the end of the day they are a business. Needless to say, i removed the advertisement in my building and initially was not planning to use this company. Other negatives, the company does not provide the movers with a GPS so even though the movers finished in one hour. They wanted to drive behind me to the final destination. Unfortunately, I needed to return my cable box and had to stand in a very long line which delayed the movers getting to my destination and hence increasing my bill. They had to return to their office to get directions and I suspect probably went for lunch since they still had not arrived to the final destination until almost 2 hrs after they left my apt. Even though it took one hour to move me out of the apt and 45 min to move my belongings into the storage unit, I ended up paying for 5 hours, although still a bit less than the initial estimate. In addition, I was told I had to pay for gas but called the estimator and this was subsequently removed from the bill. With that said, I still believe Benito and the other 2 movers did a wonderful job. I moved last yr and had a horrible experience where many of my furniture was destroyed, permanently lost, and it took almost 2 months and numerous calls to get my belongings from this moving company across state lines. Therefore in comparison to my prior extremely horrible experience, my experience with Town and Country was much less stressful and with the exception of doing a few things differently such as planning for minimizing down time as much as possible, I would definitely use Town and Country in the future and I think this company is extremely fortunate to have great employees such as Benito and his crew.

We were extremely disappointed by their service. For example, we had an upright piano which needed to be moved. They advertised piano moving as a specialty, but our piano arrived with 2 or 3 nicks in it. Other furniture such as tables and chairs also had dings as well. They did make good on the repairs, but the initially experience was very sad and disappointing.
Description of Work: They mainly operate in the metro area.

Response from Town & Country Movers Inc
Dear member, I am sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with our service to you 20 years ago. We have searched our records high and low to find a copy of your contract, but over time there doesn't appear to be any record of your having moved with us. We are sorry this has caused you such dismay over the past 20 years. You mentioned we took care of the issue to your satisfaction 20 years ago so I am not certain there is much more we can offer you at this time other than to apologize for the inconvenience this must have caused you. We are sincerely sorry this happened but at the same time feel this is an unfair reflection on our company today. As you can see by our ratings, we continually receive mostly A's and positive reviews. Please feel free to contact me at Town & Country Movers, Inc. I look forward to receiving a copy of your original contract. Thank You, Lynda Rothschild.

The salesman/estimator was very informative. All charges and processes were clearly explained. He offered solutions that would save us money and or time. I took the extra time to go to the headquarters in Gaithersburg to sign the papers and to leave a deposit. I found the administrative staff was well organized and they introduced me to the dispatcher as well. He further explained the process to me. On packing day a crew arrived about 1 hour late due to traffic and finished what we were unable to complete ourselves (we packed as much as we could ourselves over about 2 weeks). It took all day, but we were paying by the box, not by the hour. The next morning a different crew arrived on schedule. They explained that the driver /crew chief had emergency surgery late the previous night (he was having some pain during the previous day). A new driver / crew chief was on his way, but the dispatcher assembled and accompanied a crew to get the loading started so that we would stay on schedule for vacating our home that day. After about 3 hours, the new team arrived and took over in a seamless transfer. Two days later we met the driver at the appointed time at our new home. He had arrived about 30 minutes early. The local unloading crew arrived at about the same time and the driver walked them through the house to orient them. The truck had been loaded so that the 2/3s of our belongings that went to the house were on the back of the truck, and the 1/3 that were destined for storage were at the front. Therefore unloading was pretty quick and well organized. By the end of the day everything was where it belonged and we bid farewell to our driver. The charges for the move were correct and there were no unexpected amounts on the bill. This was the smoothest move that we have ever encountered. All of the staff of Town & Country were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Town & Country did a partial pack and full move of a large home. We filled the 18 wheeler. When the van arrived in North Carolina, they unload first to our temporary home, then put about 1/3 of the total load into storage lockers at a local storage company.

Price was reasonable. They were very professional and helpful with any questions that I had. I have had some very bad moving experiences, and this was a very good one.
Description of Work: They moved me locally. They did not pack anything, but loaded and unloaded.
