The Davey Tree Expert Company

It went fast. If youhave dead spruce trees to be removed fast this company might excel like they did for me. The removed the trees and the stumps. The only regret I have about the job is that they did not leave good top soil spread over the area with grass seed like I had asked them to do. But, they were under direct contract with DuPont and their contract might not have obligated them to do that. I asked them to plant grass seed and they said that they would come the next day to plant seed. No one showed up the next day nor did anyone contact me about it. That's why they do not get an A grade overall.

My experience with them went very well. They told me when they were going to come out. They came out on time. Once we agreed to do the work, they came when they said they would come and they did exactly what I had requested. Their price was second best price quoted. However, the reason I went with them over the cheaper one was because they did respond quicker.

From time to time I've compared their cost with others. They may be a little higher, but they're very dependable. Some of the other companies are individuals and wouldn't allow me to pay with a credit card. When we had a storm I called them and they were at my house long before others had service. Their prices for yard work are reasonable, but the tree removal is expensive.

My huge almost 100-year old elm (I'm not good at estimating heights but it towered over my three story house and it had four major leaders) died and needed to be removed. The backyard is tight so they weren't able to use big machinery, but had four or five (six?) workers who came and removed it manually piece by piece. They were very skillful, efficient--and pleasant--and they brought the tree down in two days just before our winter storm was due. They took a lot of care to protect my other plants as well as the lawn and lawn furniture. They also cleaned up beautifully after themselves. They had a worker come back today to grind up the stump. They needed to wait several days because the ground was wet after last week's rain and snow, and someone came by each day and checked the condition of the ground. It had dried out enough today to proceed, and their employee got here today before nine, and finished mid-afternoon. It looks great. Again, he took great care with the bushes and lawn, even covering the lawn with a wooden walkway so the grass wouldn't get torn up, and was also very pleasant to deal with. The pricing was ballpark, but they gave me a 10% discount for doing the work in the winter, so they also were my low bid. Very happy with their work. Would use them again and recommend them to anyone for the quality of the work, reasonable price, and the pleasantness of the staff.

The arborist who handled my account was professional, knowledgeable and punctual. The information I received about the care of my trees was balanced. I had a tree that is sick and I asked about the likelihood of saving it. He was up front in saying it was a 50/50 chance of saving it if I purchased the pesticide and fertilizer applications. I felt like I was able to make an informed decision based on his assessment.

Requested a quote for tree pruning a massive Mulberry and pruning a massive Black Walnut with storm damage. They had someone come out the next day. He was a very knowledgeable certified arborist. He provided recommendations about other elements of the lot as well as the trees in question. He wrote up a lengthy quote, and said something to the effect 'all that writing...for nothing" or something similar, and I was a little puzzled about the comment. I evaluated the quote and thought it was reasonable. A few minutes later my neighbor flagged me down and we discussed the storm damaged tree. My neighbor said it was their tree (I recently bought the property and part of the property line was ambiguous). I sent the arborist an email explaining that I would require a revised quote as the storm damaged tree was not mine. I followed up with a voicemail a few hours later. After two days, I did not hear anything back. I ended up going with another provider and had the Mulberry and one small tree cut down and stumps grinded. The Mulberry was overhanging electrical wires and ended up getting damaged by another storm. So I spend a few thousand $$ that Davey Tree missed out on due to their questionable comments and lack of responsiveness after providing a quote.

I am very happy with the experience. They have done a great job. The pricing is quite fair.

I called and made an appointment for 9/21/12. Andrew came out and gave an estimate. He was prompt and was really knowledgeable. He said that he would call to schedule. I waited but did not receive a call so I called and left messages for him. After several attempts, he finally called me back and scheduled a day. I called the day before and was told that I was not on the schedule. Andrew called me back and said he could come a Saturday in December. I told him that we would not be home and he said that was okay but we were not comfortable with that. I called him to reschedule for a weekday. He said that since I couldn't do a weekend it may take longer. I just want to say that when I first talked to him in September he never mentioned this. I told him that, and he said they could come another day. I said either Dec 12 or Jan but really at that point I was tired of waiting. They came on Dec 12 and were on time and very professional. They did a great job. The bottom line is it took 3 months to schedule and complete this job. In Andrew's defense, he said that a lot of big jobs were scheduled but why wasn't I told in September or October or November that I would need to wait? When I talked to him in September we discussed scheduling the job right away.

An estimator looked over all my trees and bushes and gave me his recommendation on what work needed to be done. He provided an excellent rationale for all his recommendations, and answered all my questions. I was very impressed with his professional qualities. Once I accepted his estimate, the workmen came and performed the work just as he had described it.

Have used Care of Trees before and will use them again. Asked Andy if he'd come out this spring to give us an estimate on pruning a tree and remove a plastic bag that was stuck high up in another tree. His estimate was great (we plan on having them do the work soon) and he was kind enough to come out to remove the annoying plastic bag free of charge.

I am completely satisfied with their work.

Davey's did a spectacular job in trimming, not only removing the deadwood but doing so in a way which enhanced the beauty of the trees and the yard. The estimator who came to my house was very knowledgeable, and gave me a fair estimate for the work that I had asked to be done. I did, however, have some difficulty in contacting him afterwards (I tried both phone and email) because he was so busy, but finally I did get through to schedule the work. The difficulty in being able to contact him was a bit disturbing, but the job that his crew did was so outstanding that I will want very much to use them the next time I do similar work. In short, a they were absolutely great.

The did not come on their scheduled date, but then they were busy helping us all get the electricity back on after the sudden summer thunder storm in July (it hit on Friday night and they were supposed to come on Saturday). I can forgive them for missing that appointment! They came on time for the rescheduled appointment, and even managed to work around a car my neighbor had left parked in an inconvenient spot when they went on holiday! They were polite and efficient. I will use them again.

Avoid. Will not recommend or do business ever.

Arborist, Andrew Walker, was knowledgeable, patient, honest. He doesn't give a dire picture as others did but a realistic one. He answered many many questions and didn't give a high pressure sale. High quality work - respectful of the tree health. The crew was extremely professional and they cleaned up my yard and my neighbors' yard (my tulip overhangs in neighbors's yard more than mine) very very well. They crew saw me trying to cut a thick vine root off one of my trees (not part of job I hired them for) and sawed it off without asking while I was not around. A small act but a very very considerate and appreciated. I can't say enough about the true care of my trees that they provided and the high level of professionalism by everyone. I plan to use them for future work and will recommend them to others.

We share a fence with our neighbor so they were very careful in not damaging any surrounding areas.

We liked the service. The gentlemen we worked with showed up on time. He gave us an accurate estimate. We do see an improvement in our plants. We are continued clients of theirs and are on a schedule for treatments.

I have done business with Care of Trees for several years -- since 2006 to be precise. Most recently, I arranged to have some trees pruned in my garden. In so doing, I stated very specifically that I wanted to be present when the work was done -- some of the trees are directly in front of a picture window so their appearance is important to me and my wife. The work was scheduled for Monday, April 16. I was told that I was "second in line" and that I could expect the work to begin between 10:00 and 10:30. When no one had showed up by 11:30, I called the office to see what was up and to ask for an estimate of when the workers might arrive. I was told that no estimate could be given. Several hours and phone calls later, I was told that work could not be done on that day. The company was short handed because one of their workers had had a death in the family. Had I been told this at the outset, I would have been willing to reschedule the work. But I did not learn this until the end of the day, Prior inquires to the office were met by a mixture of indifference and rudeness -- very disappointing for a long time customer.

Good job. Not cheap, but very competently executed, on time, delivered exactly what was promised. Would use again.

I have been overall satisfied with my experiences with Davey Tree Co. I have been using them for a while now. They perform very good work. They have done everything from remove limbs, clean up after storms, plant trees, and more. The work is dependable. The men are reliable. They come regularly to do maintenance for us. I plan on using the company again.

They did a great job. My tenants were not distrubed. The pricing was very competitive. I had recently moved during the time and my credit card company hadn't updated the billing address yet. They were very patient in dealing with the issue. The service was very professional. The area was totally clean and you would have never known they were there.

Nothing to add. All went well.

One of our large trees had one large dead limb that we wanted removed before it fell. The arborist, Andrew, came out and assessed our entire yard. He recommended pruning several smaller trees and provided an estimate for removing the dead limb as well as a holly tree. We had two other estimates, and The Care of Trees' was better than those because it was both comprehensive and reasonably priced. Within two weeks of receiving our 30% deposit, the crew arrived to perform the work. The three person crew and the arborist walked me through the plan and then efficiently did everything on the list. Most impressive was the pruning of two very tall trees. One man climbed to the uppermost limbs to thin the branches and to remove all dead limbs. The large dead limb came down in a controlled way that protected all landscaping below. In addition to removing all branches and debris, the crew also left the yard and driveway cleaner than when they arrived (all saw dust, leaves, and limbs were removed). The arborist also helped diagnose the prognosis of a neighbor's poorly pruned trees. We are extremely pleased with the professionalism and quality of this company!

I was very pleased to get a person when I called. She was very courteous and arranged a time for the estimate. The estimate was scheduled for a Friday and the arborist was in the area earlier and called to see if I was home. He was in the area so it only took him 2 minutes to show up at my door. He explained his company's background and gave me his opinion of what should be done and why. He provided me with an estimate (with options) and left. No pressure. I faxed in my order on a Monday and Tuesday when I got home from work, everything was done. They were very thorough and cleaned up all of the debris. I would highly recommend Davey for any tree work you may need.
