Shanco Gaithersburg

Very good overall. Had a total of about 6-7 companies come over for about a year, narrowed it down to 2 at the end. The final 2 were very similar, Shanco just happened to be the "last one in the door". Decent price, somewhere in the low to mid range of prior estimates. (had some extremely high estimates from some of the very large companies around here, had some very low estimates from some small "one man" operations). It all seems way to high to me, hence the B for price. How can roofing be this expensive? Anyway, the salespeople were knowledgeable. Note that they are not present during installation. I was assigned a foreman, but he only stopped by occasionally. I was originally a bit put off by this, however after a couple of days I realized the crew was pretty competent and efficient working on their own. My only regret is that I didn't ask for an even higher sloping tapered insulation system. But, it was too late once it was here and being installed. Of course, it would have cost even more. Some of the other estimates were for an even lower slope. Apparently this is a big part of the cost. There was one minor problem with the drip edge after completion, and the promptly returned with a fix.

Great experience from the sales person, Dan, to the schedulers and installation crew. Courteous, honest and thorough. Competitive pricing.

Like many home improvement jobs, it's difficult to judge quality in terms of how long a job will last until a lot of time has elapsed. However, to my eyes the work was well done. The estimator, Dan, was personable, helpful, and explained everything to me fully. The office staff is efficient and responsive and keeps you informed. The workers came when I was told they would and finished promptly without leaving any trace of their presence (think roofing nails!). I also recommended them to my daughter and she was very happy with their work, and was glad to hear that her townhouse roof would not need to be replaced for several more years. I would definitely use Shanco again.

Thought we'd have trouble getting it scheduled the date we needed, but all worked out well. They were here early, and were finished quickly. New roof looks great, and no mess was left over. Rep came over to inspect and thy was it. They were great .

The crew came out a few weeks after the contract had been signed, and replaced the shingles, re-caulked the vent boots, attached the drip edge, and put of the screens all in a few hours. I wasn't quite satisfied with how the drip edge had been attached, and after sending a few pictures and talking with the company on the phone, they sent out a crew the next day to put some more nails into the drip edge. I am happy with the fix, and have respect for them that they followed through with a call-back to correct the issue. I would recommend them to other homeowners. Also, the estimator, Dan, was good to work with. He assessed the damage and gave me a straightforward price and schedule. He worked with me to modify the contract a few days after he came out to visit the house. I also asked him about the expected remaining life of the roof and what the cost of replacement was, and he gave me a rough estimate.

They were really great to work with. They were timely and professional. When they did have a schedule conflict they contacted me promptly. The staff was great. And the provided excellent work.

Went well. We got multiple quotes a few months ago, picked Shanco, coordinated with some other renovations inside for the skylights and Shanco worked well with the other contractor and installed the roof in one day without any issues. Very pleased with our new roof - looks great!

I got three estimates and they were within range. They accidentally broke a window and they fixed it right away.

We used Shanco before and had again a very good overall experience from the very informative, quick and no pressure estimate to the installation. The workers seemed very skilled, were quick and did a great job cleaning up after they were done. I feel like I got a good product installed for a reasonable price.

We found them through Angie's List. My experience was fantastic. Their price was the mid-range from what we looked at.

I did my home work prior to calling contractors as I had read about a GAF certified roof. A GAF certified roof uses a much better quality permanent, breathable, underlayment, a six nail method of nailing down the shingles (to protect the shingles from up to an 130mph wind) as well as ridge guards, a factory drip edge and factory starter shingles. The caveat was that it had to be emplaced by a GAF Master Roofer of which there are only a few in Montgomery County. I called up Shanco and Dan Haske gave me an estimate. I compared Shanco's price to other companies and I found that it was an extremely competitive price and only slightly higher than the companies that tried to sell me on a standard 'felt paper' underlayment roof with no special drip edge and ridge protection. The project took one full day and several hours the next day to finish the project. Dan was great in that he pointed out, without any pressure, that my skylight should be replaced too with a Velux skylight. I knew my gutters were shot so Dan made a good deal with me to both replace the gutters and install a permanent 'Leaf Relief' gutter guard system as part of the whole package. Both the labor and materials are guaranteed for 10 years and the shingles are guaranteed for 30 years. I felt I got a very good price overall and in addition I got a $250 'Roofs for Troops' rebate from GAF.

They were prompt on getting things done. The salesmen was knowledgeable and knew his business well. The crew that did the work were efficient. They had good clean up after wards, also.

All of the people we interacted with were very professional. The job was completed quickly and cleanly. One contractor who was fixing our gutter noticed a problem with the wood underneath and alerted us immediately. It turns out, we had termites! He could have just covered this over and not told us, but he took the extra time and I appreciated it. I only marked them down on responsiveness because it took several weeks from the time we signed the contract to the time the project was started. It was a bit longer than we were originally quoted and other quotes we received were more in the 1-2 week start range. Otherwise I would highly recommend them!

They courteous, professional, on time and did stuff when they said they would do it.

I can't be more impressed with Shanco and how they operate. A very professional organization at every step of the way. The dude who gave me the estimate was fair, honest, straightforward. Shanco replaced an old gutter and downspout that wasn't able to handle the volume needed, which was causing water issues below. I can now say over a season of heavy rains the gutter is doing the job. After the big trees dumped all their leaves, the leaf guard held up wonderfully. I am most impressed with how the office communicated everything so clearly through email: scheduling, billing, and following up to make sure the work was done right. They even gave me an honest assessment on my roof's status.

We have used Shanco before with good results, and this time was no different. Good communication. It took a little longer than originally scheduled to start and complete the job - partially because we choose a non-standard color that took longer to order. They have different crews for each portion of the job and each crew always at least one member who speaks very good English. Plus, they sent a tin of cookies when the job was done & paid. Nice (& sweet) touch. We plan to use them again as needed.

Mike came by early due to the potential of rain. He couldn't determine the problem from the ground and had to diagnose it from the roof. He noticed that the siding had come apart. He promptly repaired it. He showed me the before and after pics and there was a slight gap in the siding. He didn't charge me for the work, which I appreciated. Needles to say, I will be leveraging Shanco for all my roofing/siding/gutter issues.

They come and looked at our roof and promised to send an estimate the same day.We did't receive it. They called 3 days later and asked us if we received estimates from other companies. We asked them to please send the estimate since we were still evaluating other estimates. We eventuely got their estimate

This company is excellent, and I have used them for several projects in the past and will use them again in the the future!

The people who clean our gutters indicated over the last few years that there were some soft spots on the roof. We decided it was time to get a roofing professional to look at it. We scheduled an appointment with 3 different contractors to get an inspection and an estimate. Brad Young showed up on time and was very professional. He inspected the exterior roof and he was the only person who wanted to inspect inside via the attic. It was determined that the boards were dry rotting and not in very good shape. Shanco came in just slightly under the other estimates. An appointment was set for less than two weeks later. The office staff was very courteous and they worked closely with me regarding any scheduling conflicts that I had. Mike Zajac, Roofing Manager and the crew showed up between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM. Shortly after that the material was delivered. The whole thing was very well organized and the crew worked extremely hard to be finished by 2:00 PM. They thoroughly cleaned up the area before leaving. Mike inspected the work and performed a magnetic sweep. I am very happy with the results.

Got a quick estimate on a small roof repair. Unlike one other company, Shanco did not pressure us into replacing the entire roof. They also installed a gizmo to prevent leaf buildup in the future. While doing the job, one of the workers accidentally put their foot through our carport ceiling. Shanco did a great repair job of our ceiling quickly and at no cost to us. When we need a roof job, we will definitely seek them out again.

They were very professional. They were in the ball park as I got a different estimate to. We weren't there when they did the siding but my neighbors said they did the job very quickly and well.

Shanco was very professional. They arrived on time and completed the work in 1 and 1/2 days. They did a great job and I'm very pleased with how my roof work was performed. I would not hesitate to hire them again for other work around my house. I would recommend Shanco to all my friends. I got quotes from 10 other companies and Shanco had the best price for the materials and service provided.

They are too busy for new customers.

Shanco scheduled the job in a timely fashion (and rescheduled as necessary, in response to weather changes, etc.) Shanco first sent a crew to cut into the fascia board of the soffit and install wire mesh vents. This job took about 2 work days. The method used preserved the "Colorado style" eaves of my house in Montgomery Village, and followed from a discussion that I had with the Shanco representative before the job started. Compared to other proposals that I had for this job, this was by far the least expensive and least intrusive soffiting solution. Next, Shanco scheduled the roof replacement. This required removing two plies of of old roofing material and replacing a few sheets of decking, installation of GAF DeckArmor, leak barriers at the eaves, new flashing around chimneys, ridge vents and Hickory Timberline Hickory GAF textured roofing material. This work was completed in one very long, hot day by a dedicated crew. They completely cleaned up after themselves, including a magnetic sweep of the lawn to retrieve nails, etc. Shanco returned for a separate appointment to remove the old gutters and to replace them with 5-in seamless aluminum new ones having a color that was an excellent match to the color scheme of my house, as required by the covenant in Montgomery Village. During the work, a representative from Shanco came by on each occasion to inspect how it was going and to interact with me with regard to any ongoing concerns. The work crews were very professional, dedicated and courteous. The interaction with Shanco office personnel by telephone and email was also very professional and courteous.
