I had a leak in my ceiling and my plumber thought it had to do with the roof. Steve examined the roof, the ceiling, and ultimately shared multiple paths for me to choose from to help us continue to resolve or diagnose the issue. He was kind, thorough, and wasn't too pushy. I had asked for a similar diagnosis from another company and they suggested I get my roof replaced completely. It's nice to know that Shanco is on your side and not just seeking to maximize revenue, helps me feel like I can trust Shanco.

Shanco did an amazing job replacing my roof due to storm damage. Justin Venegas and Dylan Murray were amazing to work with. With me every step of the way. Tristan, their project manager was very good as well and their entire team did an amazing job. Love my new roof! Highly recommend!

The company did awsome work! They showed up when they said they would, the repair man did a great, professional job and they cleaned up after themselves! I certainly will call them again if I have any issues with my roof! Great service!

It went very well. they were very professional and willing to go over everything with you from a to z, they have their own dedicated crew which is a plus.

Roof replacement. On August 29th a terrible windstorm that was caused by hurricane from the south came through Columbia Maryland. Consequently the wind blew up some of the shingles and caused damage to my roof. I really didn’t pay any attention at first until I saw my neighbors getting that roof inspected and many cases repaired and replaced so I began to talk to one of the salesman who is serving as a contractor. He suggested that I call my insurance company and have the roof inspected he stayed with the inspector and noted many other things that the insurance inspector did not do. The insurance company turned down my Claim and said that the roof did not need to be repaired or replaced. My contractor did not agree Jeff Youngman Was this fantastic and unbelievable contractor/salesman. Jeff worked with the insurance company and explained and documented all the things that was wrong with the roof and consequently insurance company agreed to replace the roof Shanco is very lucky to have Jeff. He worked and worked for many many weeks with the insurance company to get the claim approved I could not have done it without Jeff. 1000 million thanks Jeff Youngman for my new well-done roof

Shanco replaced my roof about 5 years ago. Recently a piece of shingle fell of the roof. I called and reported the issue. The technician came in two days and replaced the shingle without any charge since the roof is still under warranty. The customer service manager Chrissie Bartlett is very professional and responsive. I am happy with their service now, the same as 5 years ago.

I can't say enough for Steve at Shanco. I first hired him for a roof repair a decade ago before he was at Shanco. Others told me I needed a new roof, he said a simple repair would suffice - we went with him and he ended up being right. I've used him several times since then, including at a new house after he got to Shanco. He was just here to diagnose some siding and roofing issues and as always was completely honest (even if it costs him work) and provided a lot of information about what he is seeing, our options, and why he is recommending we do or don't do something. I expect to use Shanco for a new roof soon.

Steve explained the work well and after getting 3 more opinions, I hired him. He matched the lowest price and came and installed the gutters.

Shanco - Totally Roof Replacement 04-28-2020 In late March 2020 I contacted a number of roofing companies due to a roof leak near skylight. Shanco (Steve Harman) had the best response and arrived within 2-3 days to investigate water leak and while here performed complete roof inspection. He gave what I thought was a thorough assessment of the primary roof issue regarding water leak and when he thought a total roof replacement may be needed. There was no sales pressuring by Shanco/Steve H. to do work required to properly address the water leak or total roof replacement which Steve clearing stated may not need to be done for another couple of 2-years. Shanco immediately provided the pricing and contract details for repair roof around skylight and total roof replacement. I opted to replace the entire roof rather repair of one large area that would likely have to be torn-up in a few years down the road when full replacement is needed. Following are a few bullet points regarding the work performed and interactions with Shanco: • Shanco - Steve Harman is highly professional and, in my opinion, very knowledgeable regarding roof replacement and repair. There were only minor interactions with any other Shanco office admin persons however, again very professional. • The project cost was approx. 14k and included replacement of two skylights. My house is 3,100 sq-feet. There may be cheaper deals out there but please do appropriate research regarding shingle type and installation process. I purchased GAF Timberline HD® lifetime architectural shingles and two Velux Skylights. • Roofing materials were delivered a day in advance and the roof was completely installed the next day between the hours of 7am-2:30pm. Shanco Rep stated that they have a long standing and exclusive partnership with a team of roofers trained to perform work to the manufactory's and Shanco standard. (Basically, a Sub-Contractor) This initially concerned me a bit but turned out not to be an issue at all. • In my opinion a highly professional group of workers and a Shanco Rep arrived at my house at approx. 6:45am. They took great care in assuring all areas around the house were protected and conducted thorough cleaning of the property at end of job. At my request they provided pictures of all stages of the roof work. • The Shanco Rep/Foreman left after project was well underway and returned again at some point midway. I had a few questions during the process and reached out to both the roofing crew Foreman on site and Shanco Steve Harman. Both responded in a timely manner and answered all questions. • Job was completed with no significant issues. At my request Shanco Steve Harman inspected the completed job the next day. • I should also note that interior dry repair and painting was need where the skylights were installed. This is not part of the primary contract. However, Shanco will do the work at an additional cost. My interior work was roughly estimated at $200. Due to COVID 19 Shanco could not immediately do the interior work. As a result, I did it myself to include trim/molding and it turned out great! That It – Hope it helps & Good luck

From initial visit for estimate through scheduling to installation of our new roof, everything went exceptionally well. Communication from the office was superb and timely. The on-site crew was very careful and worked hard. The quality of materials was great. What I especially liked was how well they cleaned up the yard throughout the installation and on completion. I definitely would recommend Shanco to anyone.

Very flakey company! We wanted to have our 27-year-old roof replaced on our townhome. I called Shanco and scheduled a quote. Two weeks out was the earliest they could see me (mid-Nov.), but that was fine as our roof didn’t have any current issues beyond its age. Two weeks go by and Mike Hilderband (our sales rep.) contacts us the day before (at the end of the day) to reschedule because “something came up.” He wanted to come by the following morning, but that was too soon for me to take off work as I had just left for the day. I said I could do any other day during the week, which wasn’t good for him. We then agreed that he would stop by the morning in which he was free to look at the roof, and then email us the quote. However, he never would give us a quote. He only stopped by rang the doorbell and gave my wife a sales packet and left (the usual stuff - product information, references, but no quote). He never came inside to look at the roof from the attic. He never did email the quote. I reached out to Mike about a week later to say that I didn’t receive the quote as promised… He didn’t know what happened, but would look into it. Never did hear back. We then decided to push the roof into the spring as I’m a Federal worker and cash was becoming tight due to the government shutdown. I decided to give him once more chance and call him once we reopened. I got the same response of not sure what happened, but I’ll look into it and get back to you… Two weeks later and no quote, we’re moving on as it is apparent that they will never give us a quote. Complete waste of time. All they did was jerk my chain and lie to me the next several months until I moved on. I suspect that my roof replacement was not viewed as a high priority as it is a one-day-5k project. So, you may have better luck if you have a larger project. However, it would be nice if they would be straight with me, rather than giving me the ring-around over the past several months. I would be wary when choosing Shanco as your contractor. I’m not sure I would trust them for your project if their sales reps. are any indication of the company as a whole. Otherwise, be prepared for the possibility of flake-outs and broken promises. They’ll get to it when they get to it I guess… If they even get to it…

The company did excellent work: high quality, on schedule and careful/neat workmanship to replace rotted roofing and install a GAF warrantied roof. The job was specified and itemized clearly and the price was lower than other GAF “President’s Club” companies in the area. Also installed warrantied Velux skylights and removed a brick chimney to below roofline. Company took before and after photos to document the work

When we called to get the estimate for the roof replacement, they were very honest about the timing and what to expect. The estimate was reasonable and the final cost was on par with the quoted price. The workers were very patient with all of the questions my husband was asking. They provided regular updates on the work as it progressed. It was a pleasure working with them and if needed, I know we will go back to them for additional work.

My original review was less than stellar due to the lack of responsiveness from the representative with whom I was working. After posting my review, I was immediately contacted by the company wanting to know what happened. The representative, Chrissie, listened to what had happened, apologized profusely, and promised to make things right. Within a few days the repair was done. Amazing! Throughout the process, Chrissie kept me informed at every step and was genuinely concerned with my satisfaction. I was given a great price due to my inconvenience and I couldn't be happier with the work. Every company should have a "Chrissie" working for them. I only wish I had contacted the company (circumventing my unresponsive point of contact) before posting on Angie's List. Thanks Shanco, and Chrissie, for making things right.

This was our second time hiring Shanco for a home improvement project. As expected, they did a fantastic job from start to finish. Dan did an excellent job helping us with selecting the right windows, Eddie did great with the real measurements, and the whole crew did a fantastic job with the rip out and installation, including 1 rather tricky window where the previous homeowner had built the deck so that the railing was blocking the window! I thought for sure they would be having to take the railing down, but they didn't, and it's no worse for wear. The windows themselves are a dream to operate, and no drafts! Once again, Shanco delivered a great product, and top notch customer service at all levels for an unbelievable price. We will definitely be coming back to them whenever we need exterior work done in the future.

I chose Shanco because their price was similar to other estimates, but they were they only company I interviewed that recognized the origin AND could fix it. The siding had been poorly installed and was the likely origin of the roof leak. Steve also knew the exact materials he needed to match, reflecting his obvious experience. They were very prompt in coming out for an estimate and providing the proposal. However, the work wasn't within their 3-5 week window (starting with the date of deposit). I realize that there had been storms during that time, making them busy, but that is something that can always occur and should be taken into account in scheduling. The work itself looks to be of high quality. The workers arrived on time, were courteous, and did a great job, including clean up, in very hot weather. My main complaint was the lack of response to my phone calls and emails about scheduling. I either got no reply or little information until I contacted the sales representative directly.

We got an entirely new roof with 10 sheets of plywood repaired. They did the full GAF roofing system with a full warranty. They're good at staying in contact over phone and email and were very clear and fair with the pricing. The crew did a great job of material removal and cleanup. I think I've found 2 nails total in the yard after all of that work. The new roof looks great. The whole process was no hassle for me, which was great. Dan was a great sales guy and John, the project manager, knew every aspect of what would be happening on the roof.

Oh, I so wanted this to work out well. I've ready so many great reviews of Shanco on here, so they were 100% my top choice for our damaged roof repair or replacement. The TL;DR of the below is that after multiple follow ups with Shanco to even get an estimate after they sent someone out to review our work, we gave up and went somewhere else. We got off to an inauspicious start, and I should have seen a red flag there. We called to schedule an appointment for an estimate and were told we'd be called right back, but apparently we have differing definitions of "right" than Shanco, and we ended up having to call again to get an appointment on the books. I figured our sense of urgency must have driven the difference... after all, our roof was actively leaking. But then... redemption! Mike called the day of our scheduled estimate to let us know that he had a conflict and ask to change times to a later time the same day. Totally fine. We appreciated the communication, and looked forward to the appointment later that day. He came and informed us that a simple repair of the leaking area of our roof was likely not sufficient based on the decay he saw. BUT (and we were so impressed by this), he did tell us that we might not have to replace the entire roof at once, that we could do maybe half now (the other half had about five years left on it, he estimated), and then the second half a bit down the road. He explained warranty limitations, etc., or proceeding that way, and then told us we'd have an estimate for three different options--repair, half replace, full replace--on Monday (the next business day). Great! This is off to a great start! The other company we had come that day didn't mention a half roof or anything... so... super exciting that they told us we could maybe do that!! But... the fun ends there. Literally. Monday came and went. Not estimate. We called. The call was pass along. Tuesday. No estimate. Worry sets in. If it is this hard to communicate just to get an estimate, what would the work actually be like? Wednesday we called again, and the new story was that they had been waiting for satellite imagery, which had just come in, and we'd have an estimate the next day (why couldn't they tell us that on one of our previous calls?). Thursday: no estimate. Friday: no estimate. Multiple calls. Finally, on my last call, a WEEK after the satellite imagery supposedly came in, and almost two weeks after the initial meeting, I called again, and was again told that my call would be passed on. I was clear that at this point I didn't want another call back promising me an estimate "tomorrow," but that when I get a call back, it needed to include numbers. Guess what? Never got a call. I'll say here the same thing I said in that last call: We're not replacing our roof for fun. This is a necessary and urgent project that, like many homeowners, we hadn't anticipated at this time. Urgent being an operative word. Shanco was our top choice to work with, and we're actively trying (via multiple phone calls) to figure out how much money you need from us so that we can give you our business. If we can't even clearly communicate around the timing of an estimate (read: you keep telling me it's coming and then it never comes), I'm not sure how much I can trust the team with a big job. The business was Shanco's for the taking based on my research and the recommendations of friends in the area. But I can't give business if I can't get an estimate in a timely fashion (or, you know... at all). We've since signed a contract with someone else.

December 11th the SHANCO crew arrived in the morning to replace (2) attic windows. The crew installed (2) Sunrise window vinyl replacement windows. Also clad the exterior trim using premium Alside G8 white aluminum trim and caulk using white OSI exterior sealant. The crew completed the job in the afternoon, which included removing the existing (2) old attic windows, cleaning up the exterior work area and hauling away the old windows.

It went perfectly. Every aspect of my experience with them was ideal. Every person with whom I had contact, from the initial estimate visit through the billing office, responded courteously, professionally and expertly. The quality of the work done on our house was first-rate. The price for the job was fair and considerably lower than price estimates provided by the other contractors with whom I dealt.

Everything went smoothly and nicely. High efficient and nice professionals! I'm so glad that I choose them. Highly recommended.

The specialist spent a good amount of time looking at my roof (flat roof). He could not find anything that needed immediate attention. He did find "ponding" on the roof but said there wasn't sufficient evidence to indicate the roof needed to be fixed - that any fixes would require they strip it down to the wood and rebuild it. I asked him to send me an estimate for that work and he did. Shanco has looked at my roof before. They are one of the few companies that will work on flat roofs/cedar shakes. I have found them to be professional and responsive. They are honest. Their estimates are in alignment with other companies.
