Shanco Gaithersburg

I hired Shanco Companies to put a chimney cap on. There had already been one on. They said they wanted to take the one that was broken back with them and charge me for a new one. But when I looked at it, it wasn't broken, so I was not happy with them at all. I was disappointed with them. I had used them previously to clean my chimney and they were fine for that. When they told me that I needed a chimney cap, I believed them, only to find out that there was a good one on there already. I thought it was a scam. They tried to sell me something that I didn't need and then proceeded to ask me if they could take back the cap, which supposedly wasn't there in the first place.

They took a while to get back to me on some issues, but the job was done pretty well. I have no complaints.

Both he estimate and the repair work were done quickly and professionally. The salesman was knowledgeable, helpful, and cooperative.

Dan had the old roof removed and a new roof laid in one day. Amazing. I am truly impressed with the professionalism and quality of the work. Roofers arrived early in the morning, started working just as I was leaving and had completed the job before I returned. As I arrived home, they were sweeping the area for any nails or debris to ensure they left the site clean and safe. The final work was inspected within a couple of days. I am truly satisfied.

First off, the estimator came to my home, he climbed up on the roof, he recommended we replace the old attic fans with more efficient units that would also sense humidity, no matter the attic temperature....they work great! The estimator pointed out we need to add a drip edge, on all sides. There was rot in the roof sheathing, he was very fair in accounting for the plywood, he provided a cost per sheet and promised his crew would have enough on hand or get more the same day......they did. All work was done within the promised time frame. My roof preforms great and looks great too. My wife and i are very happy with Shanco and I recommend them for residential roofing replacement.

.Shanco was responsive, punctual and friendly throughout the job. We are pleased with the results. Our only additional request would be for the downspouts to extend slightly farther from the house.

The work was performed in February between the rain storms. All the work was completed in one day. The crew worked quickly and efficiently and cleaned the yard and driveway of all nails and construction debris when they were finished. Mike Zajac supervised the project and checked in with us frequently to be sure we were happy with the project and the results. It was very easy to work with this company as they are all very professional including their office staff.

After a particularly heavy rain over a a prolonged period of time with heavy wind I discovered a water stain on the wall in my bedroom. This is the same wall where the chiminey and the fire place are. I placed a call to Shanko and spoke to someone making appointments. She listened to my issue and gave me the next available date which was approximately a week out. She was very professional and understanding. As promised, a Shanco associate arrive on time and climbed into the attic to check for leaks. He was up there for quite awhile which was no easy feat. He pulled out a camera and showed me some water stains in the general area where I had the leak on the wall in the bedroom and thought it might be the flashing around the chiminey. The fact that he used a camera to show me the affected area I felt was excellent. No other company had thought to do that. After inspecting the chiminey it was established that the sealant around the base of the chiminey was cracked and dried out. He said that he had the sealant material in his truck and he could fix the problem right then and there rather that have me make another appointment and wait for someone to come out weeks down the road. I asked him to check the seals around the vent pipes also and he reported that they were all fine. I greatly appreciated the fact that I couldn't follow him onto the roof and verifiy what he was telling me as the truth and not tack on extra money for work that wasn't necessary. I am very happy with the service that Shanco provided. They were prompt, honest and fair about their pricing and did an excellent job. As of this post there have been no more leaks. Now I just have to repaint the wall......

They did a very good job. They discussed everything with us and the foreman was very good. He was very good with communicating and keeping us up-to-date with what was going on. They also sent us a nice tin of cookies on Christmas that year.

Despite the fact that they had given me an estimate almost a year ago, Shanco honored that original estimate to replace the gutters around my home. I thought that it would be 7 to 10 days before a crew would be sent out and was surprised they called and said they had an opening the following Monday, 4 days after I had sent in my deposit. The crews were fast and efficient, courteous and clean. My new gutters look great!

I called based on reviews on Angies List and spoke with Kim to set up the appointment. She was friendly and helpful and setting up the appointment was a breeze. When Dan showed up to the house, he was punctual and professional. I ended up not needing the work completed, but through the process, their communication was sub-par. I had to ask them after the appointment for a follow up to tell me what work I may need to get completed, instead of them following up with me. I didn't end up doing any of the work they suggested (it didn't seem critical to do those items), but then reached out again for different work on a new home purchase. Sent 2 emails and had one follow up in which Kim acknowledged receipt of the email, but haven't heard back since. It's a shame, I'm not sure if they are just overwhelmingly busy or if perhaps I just fell through the cracks. I would've liked to have used them because they seemed to be a great contractor to work with, but the lack of response will send me elsewhere.

Everyone was very professional form start to finish. We were shown the product that would be used, discussed the warranties, the cost, and how long it would take. Shanco was not the lowest bid we received but they were very competitive and they were located in our community. All the work was done as promised in a timely and professional manner. The workmen cleaned up every day answered any questions we had. The project director was there every day. The job took about 4 or 5 days. I would highly recommend this company. They were very professional and there were no "surprises."

Their work and their price were very good. They were prompt and the roof has not leaked. They came out and did the work and left a receipt.

My situation was evaluated and estimate made very quickly. Two different crews performed the different tasks on different days - gutter replacement and roof repair. Everyone profesional, intelligent, helpful, competent, and efficient. A surprisingly restful experience!!

While a bit pricey - they deliverd quality on that price. The small siding repair/replace looks great, and the damaged gutter replacement looks seemless. Great job.

This company is excellent in keeping in contact and gives customers wonderful service. We will use them again and would give high recommendations. The work was done well and we are extremely satisfied.

See above. They cleaned up thoroughly and safely (without leaving nails). The got some debris in the house (removal of the skylight and in the attic after removing plywood). Their price was fair and when additions were needed you got a good explanation and it was clear they were not trying to sneak in line items. My only critique is that, although the end product is fine, the licensed roofer (project lead) was not at the project the whole time, so you got a sense that they cut costs by using less costly labor. That said, the labor was people who work for Shanco and have a lot of experience clearly at what they do.

They were superb. They did the work on budget, cleaned up very well, and were very courteous.

From the initial accurate estimate, to ordering the products I wanted, to showing up and finishing everything on schedule, this company performed very well. In particular their personal attention went way beyond what would be expected for a relatively small project--an emergency residential basement egress window. I wish I had chosen them to finish my entire basement because all of the Shanco employees I dealt with were both highly professional and skilled, and they did a beautiful job on my project. For Harry Homeowner, any of these types of projects are stressful, but much less so in this case because Bryce Blair and his colleagues responded quickly and effectively to all my requests, made my wife happy with how they carried out the project, and gave us the feeling that they sincerely cared. I highly recommend them.

Discovered a legitimate problem (roof vent heavily damaged by derecho) while giving estimate for leak in basement coming from the roof. Fixed it when and as promised with no trouble since.

Brad Young called to tell me he was on the way. Arrived exactly on time. Very professional and responsive. Went above and beyond in providing estimate. Was great experience.

I found their listing on Angie's List and scheduled an estimate. Thankfully they scheduled the estimate to be as accommodating to my work schedule as possible. Their representative, Mike I believe, was on time, and promptly completed his work. However Mike was careful to make sure that he understood what I envisioned for the project. Following the visit I received the proposal by email later that day. Mike had listed several options we had discussed. I selected the options and then emailed the document back. A few days after the estimate they came to preform the work on a day that was mutually convenient. The works were professional and efficient. Within a few hours they had completed the work, and left the property in the same condition as they found it (obvi with better gutters). Since then it has rained several times and the gutters are preforming as expected.

We liked them alot and would use them again. They were very honest and the price was fair.

Shanco is the best roofer that I have ever used. They exceeded my expectations, and they did an excellent job of installing the kind of roof that I had specifically requested. They did such a good job that several of my neighbors are doing the same kind of roof. Ultimately, we were very pleased with the results.
