I am writing this to assist others who are new to home remodeling and contractor selection. I hope you find this helpful in your decision-making. Premier HomePro remodeled my outdated kitchen recently, and they were able to transition my home from a 1970s retro-tacky harvest embarrassment to a gorgeous up-to-date space WITHIN the confines of my budget ? no small feat. When I began planning for the project, I had (as instructed by company president Alan Stevens before our first visit) gathered pictures and images of my dream design, and I had gone to home improvement stores to find samples of finishes I wanted to use. I?ll admit I had champagne tastes nurtured by the HGTV sites I had been scouring! Upon our first meeting, however, Alan did something that won his company my business ? he was able to give me an estimated cost ON THE SPOT, he helped me fine-tune my budget explaining the costs of all aspects of the project, then he showed me how to stay WITHIN my budget while still achieving the look and feel I wanted! He kindly and respectfully educated me on the process of construction as no other contractors had taken the time to do. The people I had met with before Alan either didn?t show up or never got back to me with a bid, or they tried to convince me to exceed my budget before we even started. Alan and Premier HomePro were different. Now I will say this ? Alan doesn?t pull punches or sugarcoat things, and I could see the Marine Corps training behind his upfront approach (I?m a former military officer), but that training clearly is what keeps his crews on track and professional. All the guys knew their jobs and were efficient, careful of my things, respectful, polite, and even nice to my dogs! They seemed to realize how disruptive a kitchen makeover could be so they put one of my old cabinets and piece of countertop in the family room to make me a temporary station for my microwave and coffeemaker! A small gesture, I know, but characteristic of their attention to my needs. Mauricio, the project manager, was perhaps one of the calmest, nicest people I?ve met and was a great counterbalance to Alan?s no nonsense approach - I think they?ve got the good cop/bad cop thing perfected! The project moved along quickly and probably would have finished exactly on time, but one of the fixtures I wanted was discontinued so we had to re-order something different which took a little extra time. The kitchen, when finished, was beautiful and looked really high-end! My friends thought I had stuck with my expensive tastes and blew out my budget! That made me very happy and proud to have guests for dinner once again where the main topic of conversation will NO LONGER be my Brady Bunch kitchen. As Alan said at our first meeting, ?We?re not the cheapest guys, and we?re not the most expensive either, but we?re the RIGHT guys!? I know that this is true, and I?ve learned through discussions with friends who?ve either tried to go cheap (with non-licensed people) or friends who didn?t work with someone who respected their budgets, that I made the best investment.

Awesome client, excellent results! This client understood that there has to be a close working relationship between client and contractor in order to effectively execute the plan. Our team met with her on multiple occasions to define her selections and scope of work so when it was time, we could quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly manage the process and her expectations. Yes, the kitchen is the heart of your home and it is disruptive. Our team does whatever it can to create the best design it can, remain in your budget (If reasonable) and work to minimize delays and disruptions. Message from the President, Alan Stevens. This year I will be 55 years old. I have been building since I was 8. My dad, who was a nuclear engineer for the Navy was always doing something around the house. When he ran out of projects, we bought a new home so he could start over again. I found my first real construction job at 16 as a carpenter's apprentice and have been in and out of the trades my whole life (with a sabbatical to attend college, go into the Marines as a lieutenant, and then successfully retire from high tech). For the past 9 years, I have been running Premier HomePro which has received numerous awards, satisfied many clients and remained one of the top remodeling companies in the DC Metro Area. We are proud of our teams and remain committed to our clients. Thank you for such a glowing review. We promise to maintain that level of client satisfaction with all of our clients in 2014 and beyond. Like I said, nice people always get more! Life is about reciprocity and the nicer and more communicative our clients are, the better the relationship and outcome is. Life is short, love your contractor :-) Thank you thank you thank you!

We contacted Premier HomePro for information about remodeling our 50's style bathroom. All employees we encountered were polite and very knowledgable. Alan patiently listened to the various ideas my husband and I had concerning the overall feel we wanted to achieve. He suggested various ways of accomplishing the job while taking into account our tastes, budget, time frame, and possible future resale potential. Due to his attention to detail and overall knowledge, we know that we are ready to start this job (basically when we finally make up our minds designwise) we will be calling Premier HomePro. Thanks again for helping us make the best decision for our home.

Came out, gave me a bunch of reasons why I shouldn't do my project, talked ad nauseum about other stuff, took multiple cell phone calls during the consult, then decided he wanted to bid on the project, told me he would check on a zoning question and get back to me, never heard back. In short, a complete and utter waste of my time. *****************Update to your response: "Hoarded possesions"? If by that you mean things moved and gathered from one spot of the house to another in order to accomodate work being done, then sure. In any event, if you had an issue with anything, you were in my home for the better part of an hour and could have said so to my face, and saved me part of my evening. Instead, you chose to tell me you were going to do something, never followed up, and then made a wise comment on here only when my review prompted you. My warning to other potential customers is that if these guys are indirect and mealy mouthed during the simple consultation/estimate phase, I'd hate to see them exhibit those same traits during the project execution phase. Feel free to call me on 619-550-8093 if you would like to dicuss further. Something tells me I will not be getting a phone call. *******************Second update. The company owner did reach out and give me a phone call to discuss, which I appreciate.

We had a horrible experience with a prior contractor which we had to fire and Premier HomePro was night and day in comparison. Alan Stevens was flexible when we had renovation surprises and was very easy to work with. In addition his team did excellent work and were a pleasure to have around the house. When it is time for the next round of renovations on my home I will definitely go back to Alan for the work.

I have been considering Premier Home Pro for several large renovation projects for my home in Germantown, Maryland. They have been prompt in their responses so far. I am also considering using the 'Tile Center' in Gaithersburg and 'Kitchen and Bath Depot' in Rockville as well as some other local remodeling companies. I will update my posts as the process develops. Having worked in construction I am fairly familiar with how these projects work. So far I have been impressed by the Alan's attentiveness to detail. I will title my updates with 'Germantown home remodel project' to let everyone on Angie's List know whom I picked to do the jobs and exactly why I did so.

Alan Stevens did a major remodel in my 100 Year old co-op near Dupont Circle. I now have central air, magnificent new wood floors and a beautiful magazine quality kitchen. Coffered ceilings carried the central air conditioning plus the wires for the in house media equipment in my kitchen. Due to the fact that my building is a historical property with many strict regulations, this was no small feat. Tearing up the original floors with the sub structure of cracked stone and rock was a major undertaking. Once we started to remove the walls in the kitchen it became evident that it was necessary to remove everything down to the brick exterior, then insulation could be added to what was previously a very weather sensitive room. The result was immediate. The one thing I liked in particular was that his team took care of all of the small details at the end. In most renovations, getting the last ten percent taken care of is all but impossible. That was not the case here. Everything last little thing was attended to. They told me they would and they followed through. I would recommend them for any project.

Some clients become extra special and in this case, we spent over a year and a half working out the design aspects of this clients kitchen and custom made trim and fixtures. When a client has the money and the time to create ornate space, we are the team to make it a reality, From our first contact all the way to the final installation, we worked with all of our team partners in a variety of trades to deliver the perfect kitchen in her price range. Photos of this kitchen will be found on my facebook page cause they are awesome. First we went to Montgomery Kitchens to utilize the strength of Keith Hudson;s design team who spent months working out the details and placement of the mini key components. Some of the old space had to be renovated into space within 1/8 of an inch of accurate to enssure the entire wall unit fit,. ' From Start to finish this job was managed by our first class senior field manager Mauricio Saravia who does a magnificent job interfacing with the clients and managing the staff which in turn holds the fabric of the company together, We are swamped with calls but everyone seems to think that remodeling should be purchased cheaply. I disagree, This client spent over $230,000 on a beautiful kitchen because she WANTED to ENJOY her home. When your house becomes your home it becomes inviting, a place to gather and to entertain and of course relax in. We build beauty. We are a company that offers superior services and has a crew of raving fans to prove it. Three years in a row and soon to be FOUR, we have received the TOP ANGIE'S LIST AWARDS for a reason, We care about our clients and we don't cut corners. If you know a skilled craftsman who wants to join a team of winners, have them call Alan Stevens, Owner for an interview. Truly, this couple was a joy to work with. Let me start by saying NICE PEOPLE GET MORE! If you are a easy going person, we would love to be your contractor! Imagine you are out buying a car or few nice pieces of furniture. You shop until you find the one that you like, apply for financing, do the paperwork, pay the merchant and then become the proud owner of a new vehicle or a bedroom suite. Well, remodeling is totally different. First you find the right contractor. Then you create a concept of the project within your budget range. Then you give the contractor a small deposit and roll the dice to make sure it gets done correctly. With Premier HomePro, our list of "A" Ratings from people we actually did work for is impressive. We care for our clients, their needs and their homes. We have been in business for years making sure we do the best we can for those who can afford our services and we are proud of each and every job we do. We are the right choice for many but not for all who call us. As President and COO, I run an organization that is licensed, bonded and insured to do work in DC and MD with excellent references. Our clients consider that Premier HomePro offers excellent value for our services. We have upgraded our services to mid to high end and are the best value for the money in our price range which is mid to high end. Once again I want to extend a hearty thank you to another client who had a very positive relationship with us and look forward to completing the next job in October which will be the addition of a new bathroom in the basement. Thanks for your business. Alan Stevens President Premier HomePro This young couple were first time home buyers who found a great home in Fort Washington with a scenic view of the Potomac from the second story deck which was sagging. The home was in relatively good shape but had been in foreclosure and needed to be repaired in numerous areas. Unfortunately for them, their FHA 203K remodeling loan only covered certain items and their needs outweighed their budget. So, with the help of a consultant and their loan officer, we went to work at prioritizing and came up with a list of the most important items. One of which included the repair of that second story deck overlooking the Potomac which was built out of code and was a danger to anyone who walked on it, Today, their home shines with the pride of ownership. We worked miracles by researching alternative materials to give them the look and feel they wanted yet keeping in mind their strict budget range. Now, they are ready to move into beautiful space that will serve as the building blocks for their new life together in a wonderful setting surrounded by trees, deer, and a spectacular view of National Harbor from their newly remodeled deck.

The service provider showed up at our home in a timely manner and supposedly finished the plans but we never received a copy. When we called the service provider, he said he had sent it by email and would re-send but we never received the documents second time either. So we spent $50 bucks and got nothing. Not sure why the service provider didn't also drop a copy in the regular mail.

Yes, we were supposed to provide plans to all 151 clients who wanted them but we were overwhelmed with this BIG DEAL that Angie's List set us up with. If we missed getting back to you, I am truly sorry. The designer has since departed and we do not have access to the record. We deserve a bad grade on this one and I appreciate your feedback. If I can make it up to you, please call me personally at 240 223 7034. Thanks, Alan Stevens, President.
I am very conflicted in this review. The quality of work was excellent, the company strives to do the best for its clients, yet there were numerous communication breakdowns during the project. Had the owner not reached out to me to explain, apologize, and rectify the situation, the review would be worse. Alan Stevens is courteous and takes pride in his company's work. The project manager met me at my home. We went over the tasks and his insights and recommendations proved useful. However, the tasks weren't communicated to the workers who came to the house. They arrived expecting to work on an exhaust and ceiling fan. Their initial work in the TV room was completely different than what I had discussed with the project manager. Scheduling was difficult as well. I had to do too much work to determine when they'd come and that they'd arrive. For instance, the project manager and I agreed that they'd finish on a Saturday yet it was never put on the schedule. I asked if they could work on a Saturday and was told that this would not be a problem. At no point did the company ask if they could work in the home while my wife and I were at work. Had the project manager communicated effectively with the workers, I would not have had a problem with this arrangement. Since this was clearly not the case, I most likely would not have agreed to this scenario. The job did not go smoothly due to their errors. When your workers spend hours constructing an entertainment center that isn't remotely close to what I described, that's on you. These snafus prolonged what should have been a short project. I appreciate their attempts to make it whole and would have to think long and hard about hiring them again. My main point of contact with the company was Brian Matthews, and his relationship with the company remains nebulous. He communicated poorly with my and the workers. Alan Stevens, the owner of the company, stated that Mr. Matthews had been fired due to his performance on this project and others. However, Mr. Matthews reemerged some time later claiming to represent the company. If your contact person is Brian Matthews, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Alan stopped by our house to look over our property and discuss possible projects. We were impressed by Alan's intelligence and enthusiasm. He understood that we just moved into our house and are getting up and running with initial home improvements/repairs. We just sold a home and purchased a new home within a short period of time. We need some things taken care of right away (e.g., painting and getting shelves up our studio/work area). However, other projects can wait a bit while we catch breath after a whirlwind of activity. We certainly plan to use Alan's company in the future. Three factors led to us deferring an immediate engagement; 1) We had already engaged another company to do a couple of projects for us. We contacted Alan's company thinking to engage him more for handyman-type work.. However, his company seems more geared to bigger projects and that is where we would use his services (e.g., finishing the part of the lower level that needs finishing/remodeling versus putting new magnets on the dining room doors to secure the open/closing mechanism). 2) Handyman-type work is something where we want to establish a relationship with someone who is a small operation (e.g., one-person shop) that we can call on for a variety of small jobs. In our previous home, we had that kind of set up and it worked great. Our former handyman even looked after our property when we travelled. Don't expect we'll find that again, but you get the idea.)
Description of Work: Initial meeting to discuss possible home improvement projects.
Very professional job. Completely gutted old kitchen - cabinets, floor, appliances. Owner Alan Stevens worked closely with me to come up with a design, colors and materials that matched my taste. The granite counter top was precisely cut and installed. The floor, installation of cabinets and appliances, and the painting and lighting were all done with great skill and care. It's exactly the kitchen I wanted!

I am so pleased to help this client for our second project together. Back in 2007, we did a basement and bathroom remodel for her and she loved it. She searched high and low low to find my business card only to learn my number had changed. She searched the internet to find me and located us on Angie's List. We went right to work to design and install a kitchen in her price range which was around $42,000. We do high end work for a mid tier price and that's exactly what she got. We installed an Armstrong Alterna Luxury Vinyl Tile Floor, Merrilat Masterpiece cabinets, new appliances, pendant lights over the peninsula breakfast bar, under cabinet lighting, three pc crown mold and recessed lights. WOW, the colors really pop and the kitchen looks like it should be in a designer magazine. We are so pleased to have been selected twice in a row to help her improve her home and look forward to helping more good people who want the right contractor to get the job done in a professional manner. Since I get to comment on each report, sometimes I like to also throw in a few ideas of my own to anyone who is reading my response. We love our clients. We love the fact that we can help good people create and enjoy beautiful living space at an affordable price. We are however a company that does things by the book, with permits and with the law on our side at all times. Each of our workers is friendly, trained, low risk and works all day long. The other day, the neighbor of one of my clients who is getting a fire restoration job stopped in to see me as I was reviewing the days activities with the home owner. She said, "You know, my contractor has not shown up all week due to the weather. He says its way to hot to work outside but your teams are here every day, working 8 to 9 hours a day in the humidity and the heat. If my guy does not show up soon, I am cancelling my agreement with him and using your men. The work they do is outstanding and the work hard every day..... Even if you are not around to supervise them." I was flattered and told her so but more importantly I was proud. I was proud of the fact that we have a great team of carpenters, plumbers, electricians, AC guys, painters and roofers. We even have a senior mason on staff who always brags that he has a mason union gold card for 35 years of experience in the union. What a pleasure it is to work for nice people and for this client in particular. My wife and I have a saying, "Nice people simply get more." Their cooperation leads to great work and our desire to to the best we can do for them. If you are a very nice person and want a great company with a fantastic reputation to help you with your project, we would love to help you. If you have a tendency to get what you want in life by making others miserable, we are not the company for you. We are moving into higher end work for clients who appreciate it because we have the talent, the skills and the reputation to support it. As the economy heats up and the remodeling business moves into high gear, its going to be harder and harder to find qualified workers. No one I know sends their kids to a vocational school around here and honestly, I don't even know any kids who can use a circular saw with proficiency. Someday people will realize that talented, skilled labor is not a commodity but a rarity. Finding an honest company that delivers is even harder. When Premier HomePro obtains a client, we work hard from start to finish to deliver exactly what we have agreed to. With really great clients, we deliver even more. Honey gets so much more than lemon right? Anyway, I have been on my soapbox long enough but hey people, what we do is rare. What we do is special and what we really want is another year of great clients who appreciate us as much as we appreciate them. Thank you for another great review and than you Angie's List for making this forum public and helping our business grow and grow each year for the past five years. "We love you Angie!"

We were so pleased with the quality of work! The job was completed early, the finished product was better than I imagined and it was easy to work with the whole team. Mid way through the project, I discussed a number of small nitpick concerns I had with how the job would be finished and the project lead (Mauricio) had already identified these issues and developed a solution. To top everything off, they greased my front door, for free and without my asking, just because they noticed it badly needed it. For some reason, that took the customer service level over the top for me.
Description of Work: Lowered a bar area wall (removed countertop, reframed wall 4 inch shorter, replaced countertop), removed and replaced back splash in ktichen, installed undercabinet lighting and installed pocket doors in place of double doors in the den.

Working with Premier HomePro to remodel our master bathroom was a great experience. From the beginning of the project to the final product, they were very professional and courteous. They did high quality work and got the job done within the time frame and cost that they had promised. Alan (the owner) was very helpful throughout the process and helped us to get our perfect bathroom. He met with us personally several times to help us with the planning, design, and even material selection. We definitely plan to use Premier HomePro for future projects in our house.

I have always said that it takes both parties to get the job done correctly. On our part, we deliver kitchens and bathrooms that look fantastic. The staff is wonderful to work with and our price is competitive. What makes the difference is the client = contractor relationship. When both parties are willing to communicate effectively, then projects go smoothly. These clients were easy to work with, communicated with us in a calm manner and helped the process go smooth as silk. We love clients that are positive and communicative, In an era when good contractors are so hard to find, we really try hard to be different. We are staffed with talented people are well funded and complete our jobs 100 percent and to the client's satisfaction. We try to meet our completion deadlines each time without delays (unless the inspectors are a pain to work with or the jurisdiction takes their time with permits) and help the client to stay on budget. When things do not go 100 percent, all we ask is for everyone to increase the level of communication to improve the process. Its easier that way. I want to personally thank this client for their report and look forward to earning many more from them. We are already working on the next bathroom, a sunroom/tool shed addition, new roof and a fence project with them after they gain the necessary financing for the project. The parent first informed me that the contractor was rude and angry on the phone. When the contractor came into the school he was complaining of an incident in my parking lot where a mother's car was not starting. The mother asked him for help, he said he had jumper cables, the mom said she already some, he said he couldn't help her because he would be late for an appointment. The mom got angry and then he bacame angry. When he talked about this incident several times with me, parents and my vice principal, he kept getting angry about the incident. He finished it by saying, in his "younger days he would have popped her one." The estimate was twice as much as the next highest estimate of $15,700, and the 3rd estimate was $11,900.
Description of Work: I am the principal of a school and one of my parents was my contact person with contractors for the renovation of our Technology Center. The provider spoke to the parent over the phone and came into the school to give me an estimate.

As a result of this incident, this employee has been suspended and further disciplinary action is pending. We do not tolerate this sort of behavior and have since replaced him with someone more competent. Our deepest apologies for any discomfort this person may have caused you.

We did not get the design done because this contractor is not licensed in VA. They politely informed us that they could not do the job and that Angie's list would refund the Big Deal charge for us. The big deal should have listed their area of service/license so I would have known not to choose it. Angie's list was responsive to our request to refund the Big Deal for us. Thanks!

Dear client and prospective clients This is one of the first reasonable reports we received from the Angie's List Basement design deal we posted more than a year and a half ago. Angie's List approached our firm with an advertising campaign to do basement designs normally $500 reduced to $50 for a basement design consultation. We informed Angie's List that we were not licensed in VA so please only advertise in MD and DC. Well, they sent out the advertisement to VA residents anyway and WOW, we got loads of leads...... Unfortunately, we do not do work where we are not licensed (IT IS AGAINST THE LAW) so there were lots of angry people as a result. We got slammed with "F" ratings because some folks just can't be told "No". As a result, if you see our list of ratings, we got more C-F ratings over this issue (and never met with or did work for) these angry people. THIS CLIENT WAS REASONABLE AND UNDERSTOOD THAT IT WAS AN ADVERTISING MISTAKE! I LOVE THEM!!! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR GIVING US THE "B" Rating when we explained the situation. I am planning on obtaining the class "A" license to do work in VA now that the recession is almost over and will be opening business our business there this year as we continue to grow. Premier HomePro was established in 2005 and has grown every year since its inception. We pride ourselves on doing the work on time and on budget. http://www.smartshoot.com/video/premier-homepro-bethesda-ea9c38547af050c15369e74ad1acb781#ooid=Q3NnJoYjoHhqx8vOYJVOfVyR7MgE0yFx,VhNXJoYjqaVorTNfWHtdRNR8dw8KpGJV

I guess their service was ok. They were on time and pleasant enough. I didn't really get much for my 50 bucks but when I re-read the Angies Big Deal language I got what I paid for. I guess I thought a professional consultation from design professionals would have been more detailed, insightful, or creative with interesting ideas for how to reno my space and solve reno problems I can already expect to happen. But honestly, I've gotten more interesting ideas from having friends over to hang out and tell me what they think would work for my finished basement. Maybe it's just because my friends know me better, or have more recently been renters and have lots of ideas about small space configuation as a result. To be fair, I received the service I paid for and the couple who did my consultation were nice but since I didn't have a job where I got design drawings or project management, I can't really say what they'd be like if I hired them to implement a project.
Description of Work: consultation on renovating my basement into an in-law suite.

Brian came to give an estimate and was incredibly unprofessional. First, he was supposed to call half an hour ahead of time so I could get home from work, but called 5 minutes ahead of time, so it was a good thing I was already home. He was within the agreed two-hour window. Then, after not calling, he was shocked that someone else was there at the same time. He was rude and just kept repeating how he was so experienced and had never had someone else giving a quote at the same time. It is extremely common to get multiple quotes, and if he had called as he was supposed to, I would have asked the other person to wait a few minutes. He also failed to point out several good points that the other person did. I don't have much basis for whether his price was good or not, but it didn't seem that good from the little bit of comparison I have.
Description of Work: He came to give me a quote on a small 150 sq ft deck and two side fences.

This client had very little money for a deck project that would normally cost over $15000. We hope she found a source of funds to complete the job. Thank you for contacting Permier HomePro
