Description of Work: We bought 3 hours of handyman time. Roberto showed up within the allotted time and was extremely professional. He caulked a shower, fixed a door trim and wall chewed away by our dog, fixed a broken bathroom vanity and toilet paper holder, and hung a bathroom cabinet. He was incredible! He even gave us pointers to improve the seal around the shower doors.

Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for a handymen from them. I had a lot of small jobs done, they recaulked my bathroom and shower, installed new faucets in a couple of bathrooms, and hung some heavy paintings for me. They actually finished the painting job the last provider did not.

Description of Work: I was putting a house onto the market and sought help getting things fixed that my realtor identified as needing some work. Having used JW in the past with satisfaction to mend a fence that had blown over, I contacted them again. This time, they asked me to provide pictures of the work that needed to be done before they would provide a quote, I thought this was odd since I had purchased a deal from A.L. - a quote wouldn't be needed. In any case, though, I drove on out to the property and took the requested pictures, then I emailed them as requested. This took me about two hours (driving back and forth and taking the pictures). I included in the subject line of my email the name of the person that I had spoken with before, as they requested that I do, and included my name and property address (again as they requested). I never heard back from JW. With the timeline getting shorter and shorter to get the house on the market, I ended up having to do the work myself. I had to go out and rent tools and buy supplies, including a 32' extension ladder, which I then had to cram into my nice car (not a work/construction vehicle). What would have taken an experienced hand to do in a normal work day took me three days to do on my own.

Description of Work: On Sunday, May 12 at approximately 1650 hours, I became a member of Angie's List. I was looking for a recommended company to put in two ceiling fans. I did not get a call until Tuesday late morning about someone would need to call me to go over the estimate to do the repair. The representative from the company stated that this estimator would call me the next day, Wednesday, in the morning. I waiting until around noon and no one called. I went about my daily business. I didn't receive a voice mail until late afternoon from the estimator. It was too late to call the company. I called Thursday morning and explained to the representative what happened. She said she would forward this information to her manager. It is now Tuesday afternoon on May 21st and I still haven't received a call. I would like a refund of the $167.00.

Description of Work: When I called, I was immediately asked was I restricting myself to 3 hours? I had never said that to anyone but I soon got the impression that the provider wanted more work than 3 hours. It would take a month or more to get on the schedule, etc. Just seemed like he wanted more than I thought.

Description of Work: They were very nice and very clear about the situation. They did their best to be accomodating, saying that if there is a lot of rain, then they might be able to get to my job (which is inside) earlier but warning that they might well not get to it until the week of June 10 - which is too late for me.

Description of Work: Tuned up the garage door and replaced the rollers. Also saw a problem in the drive to door attachment and replaced it with a better connector.

Description of Work: The company was helpful on the phone evaluating what needed to be done prior to sending a man out to the house. The handyman did a number of small jobs, replacing plumbing in toilets and recaulking some crown molding in our family room, among other things. He was efficient, knowledgeable, and courteous. I would definitely call this company again.

Description of Work: I purchased a 3 hour handyman Big Deal to get some base board molding installed and painted in my kitchen. I called JW on 5/7/13 to schedule the work to be completed. After providing the customer service rep with my customer number, contact information and a description of the work to be completed, she wouldn't let me lock in a date for the work to be completed. She told me an estimator would contact me in about a week to talk about the job. This didn't make much sense to me so I asked more questions. After pausing to talk to her manager, she came back on the phone and told me I could send some pictures of the work that was needed, but I could not schedule a date for the work to be completed unless I provided a $200 deposit. This sounded even more ridiculous to me so I asked to speak to her manager. I told him that I already paid for the work to be completed and just wanted to schedule a time to have it done. He said you paid AngiesList not JW so without the deposit they would not schedule the work. At this point it was clear to me that this Big Deal was a Big Scam and I wanted my money back.

Description of Work: Built my gas grill and other miscellaneous work needed around our home such as putting up light fixtures.

Description of Work: I simply wanted to install a very small backsplash. JW Home Improvement indicated it would take well more than 6 hours and that I'd be responsible for paying $88/hour to complete the job. I asked how long they estimated it would take & he (Jessie) said he didn't know...maybe up to 1.5 days. I said I'd purchase another Big Deal for an additional 3 hours & he said I could not combine two Big Deals. He suggested I request a refund & go with another contractor.

Description of Work: I purchased the 3 hour big deal special from JW Home Improvement. The company warned me ahead of time, that if I needed the handyman beyond the 3 hour coupon I had purchased, I would pay the regular hourly rate for extra time. I had several tasks, including installing glass shelves in the kitchen, replacing undercabinet lighting, installing smoke detectors, replacing outdoor lights. The handyman arrived on time, was very professional and pleasant, and began to work immediately. He did a good job, redoing the shelving when my first choice of placement proved to be less than ideal. He was patient with the problem and fixed it perfectly. The undercabinet lighting was also tricky, but he provided solutions that worked. We got through the repair list faster than expected, and I spent the last 15 minutes of our session picking his brain about solutions to future projects and repairs I had to do, while we had a quick snack. The whole experience was excellent and I would hire these people again.

Description of Work: It was my first time to use Angies list. I am very careful to read the small print. Since I live out in upper Montgomery County I wanted to be sure that they would come to Clarksburg and do the work that I needed - an easy job hanging up pictures in the home that I just moved into. I planned my afternoon off from work - paid for the work in advance - they noted that I could have that day as it was available. Then when they got my address they noted that they would not come out that far. I was left with less than 48 hours to contract with someone else - plus it took a few weeks to get my funds reimbursed from Angies list accounting.

Description of Work: Needed service promptly (3-5) hours work duration according to RS Means. Setup appointment with JW Company. PErson was very professional but could not commit to a firm-fixed price contract. Wanted an open-ended contract. I was not interested on that type of contract. Hired another contractor.

Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal offer for 3 hours of handyman service from JW Home Improvements for $149 Jan 31, 2013. I asked for two quotes for a couple small jobs at my rental home. 1. Drywall patch and prime 2. Caulking of bathrooms The quote I received was open ended for $74/man-hr above the 3 hours of service purchase with a minimum per job of $450. I feel this is a bait and switch offer from JW and is does not meet the my expectations or what was advertised. Their "quote" is attached. I refused their terms as it is an open ended contract.

Description of Work: Needed garage door tune up. They responded quickly, were punctual. Did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. In fact, he showed me why my garage door remote was not working.

Description of Work: I didn't know a garage door needs a tune-up, but it does! The door works much better now, and with less noise, than it did before. I was very pleased

Description of Work: They replaced some rotting wood in our carport. The estimator arrived at the scheduled time, and was knowledgable and helpful. It took a little longer than expected to schedule the service, but the guys arrived on time and did a great job. Would definitely hire again.

Description of Work: Very punctual and very friendly service. Hw was very friendly to my dogs, which is always a plus!!!!
