Description of Work: Jesse, the owner, came to estimate the job for my Big Deal purchase of 6 hours of master carpentry work for $299. I had a long list of projects ready, with pictures and descriptions. I had thought a carpenter would be coming to estimate. Jesse didn't seem to know much about carpentry. He said I couldn't get anything on my list completed for $299. It would cost me an extra $106/man/hour to finish any work started. He said they do not do any job for a fixed price; rather, they charge everything by the hour. This is a challenge to work around as a consumer. In addition, his ballpark estimate for an under-deck screen was outrageous. After hearing that the job is always billed hourly, I threw out my slightly more complicated projects (a mantel and faux coffered ceiling) and asked for a simple 3 1/2 inch crown moulding installation in a few small rooms. Jesse told me that I may be able to get one room done (by two guys, in three hours) for my $299. I questioned him asking why it would take two master carpenters three hours to install one-layer crown in one room. He didn't have an answer, other than the guys would need time to set up, get supplies, eat lunch. I think I could do this crown installation in three hours- and I don't need to pay them to eat lunch. Even after I voiced that I was frustrated by not being able to complete any project with the Deal, I still felt pressured by Jesse to go ahead and make the appt. In fact, he called the scheduling office from my house to make the appt. I do feel that this is not a good deal, and I don't want to be charged for carpentry work on an hourly basis.

Description of Work: We contacted the company, but they could not even do an estimate for over a week, and then service would be another full week after that, at the earliest.

Description of Work: I wrote down the time and date options when filling out the Angies Deal purchase request. I followed up with JW Home as I did not hear from them to confirm one of the dates submitted. JW Home Improvement said they do not follow Angies List customer appointment schedules and could not accommodate on any of the days I had available. They did not seem interested and made no effort to work out a date. I would advise people not to pay in advance for a "Angie's Deal." A customer should be charged only if work is complete. I would appreciate it if you credit my card back.

Description of Work: As requested after paying for the voucher, I listed three possible dates to schedule the service with my phone number. No one ever called. I sent them an email and someone finally called. They said an estimator had to come first to do an estimate; they said their estimator was in my area (Fairfax) on Wednesdays. I told them that I have a work commitment on Wednesdays. They were unwilling/unable to give me any other day to be home to meet the estimator...no flexibility at all. That doesn't work well for those of us with jobs! Requesting a refund and will contact another company on Angie's list first to see what their availability is.

Description of Work: After several attempts to schedule a visit we had a technician make a call. The technician inspected both wine refrigerators and stated they would need parts. There was no follow up. After contacting the provider they said the technician was out but when he returned from vacation he would provide details. It took several calls and attempts to get details on what was required to get the items repaired. We were told we would need to order the parts ourselves (control boards) and they would supply the specific details. They have yet to provide the part number or details. Overall the worst customer service we have experienced.

Description of Work: The repaired grout in my shower, installed a new shelf in the shower and installed a new plug and cable outlet for mounting my TV in the bedroom. I bought the Big Deal $199 for 4 hours of handyman and paid for an additional 3.25 hours.

Description of Work: Twenty three year old house has two garage doors. A spring on one of the doors broke. Given the age, we decided to call JW Home Improvement and have all four springs replaced. We had used JW for a garage door opener in the past and was very pleased with their work. Mike came out right on schedule, replaced the springs and balanced the doors. He was very professional, explained what was being done, and cleaned up after. JW Home Improvement is an excellent service provider.

Description of Work: Gene replaced some washers in our bathroom faucets. The faucets were very old probably originals (1965). Gene was very professional and very helpful. I had purchased the 2 hour $150.00 certificate. It didn't take more than 1/2 hour. Gene asked if he could fix anything else as I had paid for 2 hours.

Description of Work: Needed 5 doors shaved at the bottom because we had new carpet installed and the doors were rubbing. Had a light replaced over the back door. Tim was on time, very thorough and attentive to detail. He kept me informed on what he was doing, to be sure it was what I wanted. Very pleased with his work.
