salesman/owner came out in advance and spoke with my wife and was only concerned with increasing the price. He would not even give a list of supplies needed to the techs who came out a couple of weeks later so they were prepared.

I bought voucher from angies list and it says clearly that balance I need to pay at the time of task. But these people asked me to pay balance before even schedule and appointment. How can I pay $200 before even getting an estimate? What if I do not want to proceed after knowing the total cost of job? Am I going to lose my $200? Final word, I cancelled the voucher.

Per Angie, a customer service representative, I was told that since I was an Angie's List customer, I would only have to pay the consultation fee of $130 and any materials necessary to install the doors. I was also informed that I could either have the contractors purchase the materials or purchase them myself. She also said I could also go with contractors to the store to get the materials; this was my preference. On October 20th at the time that the contractor/representative was to arrive, I looked out my front door and saw an individual taking pictures of my house. As I went outside to inquire as to why he was doing this, he introduced himself and told me that he had already taken several pictures showing various repairs that were needed to my house. I was extremely puzzled because this is not what I had requested of the company. He asked if he could go in my backyard to conduct further inspection of my house, I gave him permission and accompanied him on his tour. He proceeded to take several more pictures and "attempted" to explain to me the importance of getting everything done as soon as possible because this area, Washington, DC was expecting one of the worst winters we have experienced in years and it was of most importance that I take care of the exterior. 'm not sure what weather forecasting he was quoting, but meteorologists from all the local channels are predicting a very mild and warm winter. He further stated that most customers are very surprised when told of various exterior problems and that on average, it usually cost customers around $7,000.00. He stated that based on all the things he saw regarding my house, it would cost me in excess of $15,000 and even told me the options available to pay for the service and how long it would take to complete everything. As he proceeded to try and sell me on this service, I told him that I have one of the strictest HOAs in the county and never was I contacted about any of the work which he said was needed. My HOA complains if a weed is in the front yard! I finally decided to redirect the conversation and inquired as to the reason why I had consulted with this company. I showed him where I wanted the french-doors installed and also showed him the doors which had already been purchased. He said, if the doors don't fit, I guess you want us to purchase some more for you. I replied, that the only thing needed was the framing because the doors had been properly measured. RIP OFF! At no time did the representative provide me with an estimate for materials, nor did he take any measurements. He was only interested in trying to sell me on getting the exterior taken care of first and then install the doors later because the outside was more important. I told him I would think about it and needed a couple of days; he assured me that he would contact me to finalize the contract. I just told him this because I wanted to get him out of my house as quickly as possible and I knew I had no intentions of doing any work with this company. As a result of this experience, I have decided to discontinue my association with Angie's List. I have found a reputable contractor who has installed my doors and they look fabulous!!

Good for the most part. But some of the cabinets that were repaired broke again quickly.

Buyer-Beware. I purchased the "$49 for $149 worth of handyman work (3-hours of labor)" deal off Angie's List. Despite the fine print which clearly states, "The remaining balance of $100 is due to the service provider prior to work commencement," the receptionist could not, and would not, schedule an estimate unless I paid the $100 balance. Why would I go all in and pay $149 before even getting an estimate? The receptionist tried to explain that "prior to work commencement" included the act of providing an estimate, which doesn't pass the common sense test. I was transferred to a manager who offered to make things right, but when I was transferred back to the receptionist to schedule the estimate, she asked me to go on a "brief" hold. After a few minutes, I realized that if a company is trying to nickel dime you right out of the gate, it's probably not a good sign. I hung up and got a refund on the deal. I see that this company has high marks for workmanship, but I wasn't able to get over the lack of common sense from the receptionist. I'll take my business elsewhere.

Work was completed. Contractor did an estimate to replace planks and return to do refinishing. The new planks were installed with labels face up. Not sure if that was a lack of attention to detail or not. I do not know how much that matters once the project is complete. Contractor also left behind his blower. After I called the company to let them know, they said they would have someone contact me to arrange to pick it up but no one ever did. It's still in my backyard sitting there under the tarp.

The quality of the work was fine, although since it hasn't rained much since the gutter work was completed, it's hard to know. However, the company quoted me an "estimated" price that was to be based on the actual number of hours it took to complete the work. It took fewer hours, primarily because the second guy who was supposed to be there the whole time was only there about half the time.Then the company charged me for both guys to be there the whole time -- an overcharge of hundreds of dollars. (When I complained, they promptly took $700 out of the bill, so I have no complaints about the final price.) I think the two guys who were doing the work were actually putting one over on their employer by saying they were working when they were not (resulting in the overcharge to me) but it appears there was no supervision or review of what they were doing or how long it was taking. One of the guys also tried to sell me on doing some other work that "wouldn't be covered by the company" but would be charged through the company. In other words, he would perform the work, on company time, and the time charges would show up on my invoice, but since the work was not described in the company's estimate, the company would not stand behind it. It would be an understatement to say that the professionalism left a lot to be desired.

We were so satisfied with Cesar's work. He worked for 8 hours and got everything on our checklist completed. I don't even think he took a lunch break. He was very friendly and competent. I asked him about a few projects we are saving for a later date and he gave us some helpful advice. We will definitely use JW again and will request Cesar come back.

The two men arrived promptly as promised. They worked on a variety of small projects from patching and painting a wall to replacing leaky faucets. All my "chores" were completed within the estimated time.

Deck waterproofed unevenly with a few spots missed

One light was very difficult to be done by a single handyman; therefore the company had to send another person to assist. They were very professional throughout the entire time and the office staff very professional and responsive to my concerns as project went over allotted time.

Great! Oscar was punctual and neat. He was very careful with my schoolhouse lights. Two are pendant fixtures. He noticed that one was a little wobbly and he fixed it. One of the outdoor lights was a mess as bugs had gotten inside and died. He cleaned it out so it looks great now. He also fixed my garbage disposal which was not on the "to do" list. I had thought I would need to replace the disposal. His work exceeded my expectations. For this job I purchased an Angie's List deal that gave 4 hours of work for the price of two. The work was completed in three hours.

The work went well. However, the handyman stopped early due to thunderstorms and I had to call back four times to get the work rescheduled. Once the owner got involved, they were out very quickly.

The team JW Home Improvement sent to my house did a terrific job and went above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend JW and will use it again. A little pricey, perhaps, but JW more than earned my money.

Workers prompt and efficient. Extremely proficient. Small problem I will report later. This was my 3rd project and I would use JW Home Improvement again.

Very pleased with preview inspection and workers. One door a bit off kilter that I did not notice because I forgot to close while workers were still here. Living with it as my problem for forgetting to reschedule return. Neat, organized, careful of my home. The one odd cut was only problem. Four 38 yr old wood doors removed and replaced with white wood doors and handicap knobs. (Computer and Angie's page not compatible so original review never accepted/posted.)

I think the work was fine, but the (free) estimate was under half of the actual final cost.

AWESOME! Chris was on time, professional, answered all of my questions and very neat. The repairs look so good and clean. Every interaction with company was great. Very satisfied with the service.

The handyman, Chris Brown, was very nice, worked quickly, and cleaned up after himself. He got finished early and gave me a hand w/another small project.
