Description of Work: We had JK pack and move us interstate (100 miles). They packed one day, loaded truck the next and delivered on the third day. We had the same crew load and unload so they knew what pieces needed to be reassembled. The staff was friendly, professional and worked hard. We would give an A+.

Description of Work: I hired JK Moving to help move some of my Mom's household goods to Chicago from my home. It was a small move, <1,000 pounds, but included a number of fragile items like glass top tables and pictures. All arrived safely in her Chicago apartment, despite horrible snow in the city. They had to shuttle from large truck into a moving van to the building, and it went smoothly for our family. Our move coordinator was quick to respond to my questions and easy to get ahold of through email. I really appreciate their service.

+ -1 moreThe big items of my house and boxes that were packed were moved. I had some additional packing to finish and ended up moving the rest of my belongings myself during the next week. The men worked hard but took breaks throughout the day that I paid for.
Description of Work: I was very unhappy with my exerperience with JK Movers, primarily because of deception about their prices. I would not use them again or recommend them to anyone I know. I called a month before I was going to move and requested a price quote to compare them to other movers. I told them I needed the largest truck they had, that I had 2 full bedrooms, a living room, dinning room, kitchen and lots of boxes from storage that would need to be moved. Without coming to my house or even making an offer to come, I was given a price quote of $1,000. I checked with another mover, "Two Men and a Truck" and they told me it would cost me $1200. Based on the quote I was given and a review by Clarke Mahek that "Two Men and a Truck hire ex-cons, and this company is being bought out by J&K Movers because they are going bankrupt." I chose to go with J&K Movers. They showed up on time but took breaks throughout the day that I ended up paying for. The final price I was charged was $1776.00 almost double the price I was quoted when I called them. The extra $776.00 was money I needed for other expenses. When I called Clarke Mahek to discuss the bill after I already paid, he said, " There is nothing I can do about it, you won't be getting any refund. You should have had us come to your house to look at your belongings." One of the worker also made inappropriate flirty and personal comments to me through out the day. I do not recommend them unless you want to pay double the price you are quoted. I also had some damage to my belongs, dented file cabinet, paint scraped off of my metal bed and a few broken glass items. It was not worth the trouble to get reimbursed for these damages even though I bought insurance. I felt ripped off, if I had know I would be charged $1776.00 I would have chosen another mover.

+ -1 moreIt was a 103 degrees on Friday, 23 July 2010 (moving day), and the four man team had great attitudes and did a fine job. The foreman called for a small truck to load the few items that did not fit into the first truck. We moved out of a 5 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom townhome. Only a cheap bookcase and a cheap 30 year old desk were damaged. I am not worried about either items. The big, glass china cabinet and piano and all the other furniture was well paded and packed for protection. I provided lunch, lots of water and a tip for each of the four men at the end of the 10 hour day. I was quoted for 8 hours for the move and an hour in transit, so the estimator was a little off. By the way the estimator was very professional and efficient. Though I cannot write about moving out of the area this local move went well.

The only thing is that the representative we met with at our house who came with his printer and laptop said we could get ahold of him anytime by email, but twice since that time he never returned my email. We got a slight discount because they were recommended to us.

+ -1 moreI contacted Joe Pence and made an appointment to have him give me an estimate on our move. The day of the appointment he was late but called me a number of times to update his ETA and ask if I wanted to reschedule. He spent a lot of time with me figuring out how much we had to move (we were moving from an apartment AND a storage unit) and how long it would take. His estimate was was reasonable, and he explained that he may have added an hour or two extra but that if the move took less time we would only pay for the hours worked. As it turned out, our original estimate was $1500 but the guys finished early so we were only charged $1000. What a happy surprise! JK kept in touch with us during the process of the move and Michael and his crew were excellent. They worked continually and quickly, yet were careful with our possessions and very polite and accommodating. Our house is multi-leveled, and they managed to put everything in its place without damaging anything. We were extremely pleased, as we had a bad experience with another moving company recently. I would recommend JK Moving to anyone, and would definitely use them again.
