Jim Stanley Asphalt

Unlike another company which I had previously used, he came ahead of the main treatment and filled the cracks. He returned a few days later and sealed the entire driveway. I was very happy with the work, particularly his handling of the cracks in the driveway, and also did a better job than the previous company which is highly rated. He was prompt and reliable and I would highly recommend him.

Mike was a pleasure to work with. He was honest and professional from start to finish. The driveway looks great and we had no issues. We would use them again for sure.

This was an excellent experience. Mike Stanley provided prompt estimate with very professional assessment of the problems and suggested solutions. He kept me informed as to when the work would be done and he and his team arrived on time. They did a great job (I have an in-house expert who highly approved !), cleaned everything up and clearly took pride in doing a good job. Our driveway looks wonderful and we would definitely consider them for a paving job for another property we own. We highly recommend them.

This was a big job, which meant a big price tag. The estimate provided by Jim Stanley Asphalt was comparable to another estimate we rec'd. The crew arrived the day before the job to do some prep work. They arrived on time the day of the job. We thought the estimate included the parking area, but it did not. We were not upset about this b/c the parking spot was not readily identifiable given its location and the overgrowth of some weeds. Mike Stanley and my husband marked out the additional area to be paved, and Mike added the cost to our bill. The work went smoothly. The crew was professional and courteous. They finished within the expected time frame. We are delighted with our finished driveway! One of our neighbors stopped to say how nice it looked (especially in contrast to how bad our previous driveway looked). My only suggestion for improvement is more timely communication. When I sent in the signed proposal, I was told that we would be put on the schedule for paving in 2 wks. We waited 2 wks and didn't hear from them, so I called to make sure everything was OK; at that point, I was told that we would be put on the schedule in another week or two. This didn't present any problems for us, but it would have been nice if they had called us to let us know of the delay in scheduling. But this is a minor point for a company doing a lot of work that is affected by weather conditions. Overall, we would definitely go w/ Mike Stanley Asphalt again.

Stanley Asphalt came promptly when we called for an estimate. The estimate was fair and they were able to schedule our job quickly. They arrived at our home at the time they promised and completed the job in the time estimated. Stanley Asphalt did a great job. Mr. Stanley led the crew and supervised the entire job. He was also very accommodating with some special requests we had about our driveway. We had just had a new retaining wall built and Stanley Asphalt was very careful when preparing the area around the wall. The entire crew was very pleasant and polite. We can highly recommend Stanley Asphalt.

There was a dip in the driveway where it was sinking. I was told that sinkholes were usually caused my erosion due to a water leak. I had the water company come out and they looked with a camera to check for a leak, they did not find a leak or backup of any sort. After studying the problem I hired Jim Stanley Asphalt. He patched the dip, but I don't think he went deep enough because it has sunk again. The original dip was repaired in April, by July it started to sink again. He said the work was under warranty but he charged me $200.00 to open up the hole. I now have two large holes in the driveway and am going to have to find someone else to repair the problem. I think this problem is beyond his expertise. They found that the hole was extremely deep and extending up the driveway.

I have been trying for two years to find somebody realiable to seal our driveway. Finally got two names from Angie's List and Mike Stanley (the son) handled the job from start to finish. He returned my calls promptly, came on the scheduled day for the estimate and he was very professional. I received a less expense bid from another company recommended on Angie's List, but decided to go with Stanley because they just "felt" better. Job was delayed during August due to rain, but finally got it schedule for Sept. 4. They arrived on time, did very neat work and applied a heavy coat of sealer. I feel like we got our money's worth and would recommend them to anyone on Angie's List.

They did the work fast and were very thorough about hauling away the junk.

I liked the way he came off at first, but when I asked him to come back to do the work and was willing to pay, but he said he could no longer do the work.

Called Mike at the end of April 2010 and yes as previous reviews indicated it was a couple of days before he called back and as the other review indicated, well worth the wait! Stanley Asphalt is in Maryland, we are in Virginia. I hesitated in calling an out of state company but the reviews were so positive and since so many homes were involved I had to ask. He did service areas of Northern Virginia and agreed to come out an inspect the driveways. I was impressed with the presentation of his bid as it was done very professionally and he personally dropped off each in the respective mailboxes on a Saturday. The turnaround time from first talking to him to getting the estimates was only a day or two. His bids were very competitive. Scheduling seven homes for resurfacing and one for resealing with summer coming up proved to be a slight challenge but Mike was able to accommodate all of our needs and began work on June 3rd and just finished on the 7th. He arrived when he said he was going to and addressed any concerns we had. He was on site every day and even helped with the jobs, very hands on. The crew did a fantastic job on every single driveway, very neat and cleaned up after each job. It was a pleasure working with this gentleman. He was friendly, professional and did everything he said he was going to do. We are so thankful for finding a paving company that obviously takes pride in their work and reputation. I highly recommend this company and if you have to wait for his services I would strongly advise doing so. I don?t think you will be disappointed and Thank You Angies List for giving us the opportunity for finding companies like Stanley Asphalt. They are one of a kind..

Mike came to the house to provide the estimate the same day I phoned. The proposal was very professionally presented and included photos of other completed work. Due to home improvememt projects being done inside our house, I needed to reschedule the paving appointment at least 3 times. This was no problem for Stanley Asphalt and they accomodated my rescheduling each time without complaint. The completed driveway is a first class job. We would not hesitate to use Stanley Asphalt again should the need arise nor would we hesitate to recommend them to our friends.

It went really well. Mike Stanley is hard to get a hold of at times but I can understand that he balances being on jobs during the day and returning phone calls at night. He came out and gave me an estimate pretty promptly and was really thorough in his suggestions and explanation of what he thought needed to be done. The paving was a bit more complicated because it is a driveway that I share will a neighbor and they had to demolish and resurface around drains that I have embedded in the asphalt. In addition they had to hand tamp around the house because the surface is sloped to improve water run off. They were very courteous, neat and efficient. Mike stayed on the job working and supervising the whole process.

(05/08/2010) Do not know... company did not respond to determine. Based on response, not very good at all. UPDATE (05/27/2010) Overall, the experience was good. Initially, there was a problem w/follow up. However, the son came out and made all necessary corrections and was very accommodating. Previously, was concerned about the follow up...but have since been very satisfied with the company and the work.

I call Stanley Asphalt based on their reviews and ratings on Angie's List. They were one of three vendors I contacted for estimates, all from Angie's List. Mike, the owner, was prompt in calling back and in setting an appointment to give an estimate. He arrived promptly, answered a lot of questions I had, since I know little about putting in an asphalt driveway and determining if the entire driveway needed to be replaced or just resurfaced. He provided a professional, complete and informative estimate, using a computer and printer he had in his truck. So, in addition to having an immediate estimate, it was legible and contained the complete terms of the proposal, references and pictures of the process. Very professional. The day that was set was raining, so early (before 8 am), I got a call from Mike, suggesting it would be better to wait a day, altho it could be done in the rain, he felt the customers would feel better if it was done in fair weather. That was smart, and good business, since if anything would go wrong, the rain could not be used as either an excuse by him or a reason by the customer. Needless to say, nothing went wrong. The next day, I get a call, from the road that they are on their way, but stuck in traffic on I66 eastbound. I must appreciated his keeping me informed. So, they arrived about 30 minutes late, but that was no issue for me, since I knew it. They were extremely careful in setting up for work to both make sure neighbors could get in and out, and that no roads were blocked. Plus, they took extra care not to disturb the lawn with their tools. Mike double-checked and explained what they were going to do, and how they were going to proceed. That's something I appreciated since I am one of those "what-to-be" construction guy types, who want to play with tools and machinery and learn how things are done. Mike was very accommodating. It was done in 2 and one-half hours, meticulously cleaned up, and with clear explanations of what to do now (keep cars off to 2 days) and in the future (with a new black driveway, during the hot summer, try to avoid turning the car wheels while not moving on the driveway, putting down a motorcycle kick stand. Neither will ruin the driveway, but will scuff it up.) The entire crew was polite, well-mannered, did a professional job, and pleasant to deal with. A great experience, and it was also the lowest price of the three.

Mike Stanley came to give me an estimate within three days of my phone call to him. The job was agreed upon the next day. The company was supposed to do the job on the following thursday or friday. I called them on Thursday and left a message. They called me back that evening to apologize for not getting back to me sooner, and explained that the job would be completed the following Monday due to weather problems encountered during the week. That next Monday the crew and Mike came by and completed the job. They filled in an area where there was a sharp grade with soil that had to be dug out for the job. They were polite, punctual, and completed the job in an excellent manner.

The gentlemen who came out to do the quote was very nice, very polite. The driveway came out great. I would definitely hire them again.

I contacted this company through email and using the phone number listed on their website - I never received a response from either inquiry. It appears that they are out of business.

I reached Mike Stanley on his cell and he came out to give the estimate that evening. Work was done two days later. Very professional and no problems. Price was considerably more than the "bargain" sealcoater but he was able to do the work sooner, which was important to us. This was the first time the driveway had been sealed since it was installed more than a year ago. The driveway looks like new and the job was done very neatly.

The person, I think he's one of the Stanleys (in the family of this company) was very courteous and very helpful in terms of explaining what they were going to do, and then afterwards explaining how we were to follow up on their work. They were very willing to consider coming down on their original bid somewhat in terms of the total cost. I found the experience with working with them very good.

Terrific work, good team, hard workers, quick overall results.

Mike Stanley presented a thorough proposal after one phone conversation. He covered all the details I talked to him about in the proposal, indicating that he listened to the specifics of what I was requesting. His bid was not the lowest, but he was patient and careful answering my many questions (I have never done this before and know nothing about paving), and after a couple of phone calls, I was comfortable that his company was the best one for us. He did the work requested and encountered some significant and unexpected problems. Rather than doing a less-than-excellent job, he dug up the problem area, added necessary fill and put down more asphalt than his bid indicated. He did all this to make sure the job was done right. We did discuss the extra costs and came to a mutually agreable resolution on the price.

Mike Stanley is very responsive and professional. Within a day of my initial call, he came out and gave a complete estimate. I had sought out four other estimates and his was, by a substantial margin, the lowest. On the agrreed date, the crew came and did a thoroughly professional job and Mike was there to supervise the project. The work went smoothly and I was very satisfied.

Called Mike and scheduled an estimate. He was easy to work with and his price was $400 less than another estimate I had received from a non-Angie's List company. Additionally, there is a $100 Angie's List coupon for them. We agreed to wait a few weeks until end of March for weather. Called me on 3/30/09 to schedule for 3/31...they arrived at 9:30 a.m. and were done, including clean-up by 6:30pm. I was able to easily interact with the crew and Mike and asked them various questions which they all politely answered and engaged in conversation. Just a bunch of nice guys who made it their business to be thorough, keep the sight clean, their vehicles from blocking the street and everything proceeding smoothly. Mike will make a site visit in 2-3 weeks to examine the new section to ensure that the surface has and footing has solidified properly over the clay. His final followup will be on 10/1/09 to apply sealer prior to winter.

We contacted several companies. He was the first to get back to me and to get us an estimate. It was reasonable. He was prompt to get to the job. We signed the contract and he was done with the entire job within days. The whole job looks great and we are very pleased with it.

They were on time, great equipment, and workers. The driveway looks great, and the prices were great. Good advice was the selling point on this company, not trying upsell.
