High's Chimney Service

I had three contractors provide estimates for the work. High's was not low bidder, though they were within a couple hundred dollars. I liked their manner the most and they gave me a stronger sense of trust in their workmanship than the others. I asked if they would match the lowest bid and they agreed so I gave them a deposit over the phone. They came out the following day at 8 a.m. on the button to perform the work and finished by mid-afternoon. The chimney looks great and they were careful not to damage our bushes and flower garden. They cleaned up the work area well and neatly coiled up my garden hose and extension cord. They called the next day to see if I was pleased with the work. I said "yes" and paid the balance over the phone.

Quick picture if cracked lining. Chimney guys arrived on time. Hispanic by one out of the three guys spoke English very well.

They were punctual, polite, neat and in the same price range as 2 others. Let me take their boxes for the preschool! Quality of work will become obvious at next big rainstorm (old pipe leaked interior). Otherwise, I'm not climbing to the roof to check.

The job included replacing the chimney caps and waterproofing the outside of the chimney and installing a stainless steel liner. It was done in a few hours. The workers came the next day and arrived promptly and took away all old parts and left the area clean. I was pleased. I can't rate the price because I didn't comparison shop. Both Angie's List and my roofer recommended High's.

Work progressed as stated in estimate, however work crew was constantly pointing out extra items "missed" by the original estimator, in spite of the estimator having seen and inspected all the areas in question. Seemed a number of items that were overlooked by the estimator according to the crew chief could "cause fires in the house" or allow water to "flood the attic." This was the reason to bring them out in the first place! Wasn't sure who to believe the estimator with "10 yrs experience in the business" or his crew chief. In spite of the pressure tactics to sell more work, the crew was neat and finished the work as scheduled, workmanship seemed to be fine for the repairs and work done.

They were friendly and did the work quickly without any mess.

They arrived 15 minutes early, were extremely efficient and finished in about 15-20 minutes. They were very polite. The only problem was that I believe they blew a fuse in the basement. No real problem because I just had to flip the breaker switch, but it annoyed my 14 year old son who got cut off from his computer game. He survived.

High pressure sales tactics, discovering additional work that was required in the middle of the project, extending the time required, and changing crews mid-course distinguished my experience with High's Chimney.

High's provided a three-hour window, and the repairmen showed up within that time-frame. Based on their inspection, they said that liner wear and tear was commensurate with the age of our house, and that within several years, we'd probably need to replace the liner. After inspection of the exterior, they felt that we needed to replace the cap, which showed deterioration from age, and replace several bricks, also damaged from age and excessive strain from water. They provided an estimate that was about 1/4 of what the first company provided, and the other company basically recommended tearing down and rebuilding the chimney, inside and outside. We felt far more comfortable with High's inspection and their estimate since we can hold off on some repairs until next year, we'll schedule the repairs for Spring 2007. We built our first fire in the fireplace last night, it was wonderful!

I wanted the fireplace cleaned, and the dryer vent checked and cleaned. The fireplace cleaning went well. The Tech indicated that the dryer vent needed cleaning and repair. Which I agreed it was extremely dirty. The Tech recommended that I replace the dryer pipe/hose with a steel one at a cost of $600. He said it would be easier to clean later. Stupid me said yes and scheduled another visit for the work. Luckily a general contractor friend advised me that this was ridiculous, etc. I canceled. On the good side the Tech noticed I didn't have a chimney cap and I agreed to have one added at a cost of $159.

The Techs were on time. It took a bit to hook up their equipment. They are professional. Didn't clean a duct that was above the stairs because they had no equipment to reach it. I had a skylight that had a lot of dust on a screen. I asked them to clean it, which they were not going to. Clearly it was a vent to the house of some kind. They did it for me. Didn't get it all, but most of it.

Very well. They reminded me to have my chimney cleaned more often to avoid risk of fire.

High's service was prompt and courteous. They took care to not damage and work around two large holly bushes that were against the chimney. Work was done in one day and they cleaned up nicely after themselves. The repairs look great and they did a nice job matching the color of the old mortar.

They did everything they said they would do.

Overall the experience was good. (I won't know if it all worked until the next heavy rain.) The original person came out for the estimate, etc, within an hour of when I called. The work was scheduled for only three days later. The worker (Angel) was prompt and completed the work in about 3 hours, well less than the original estimate. The work in the basement for the flue liner appeared to be well done. I talked to Angel about the construction and was convinced it was correct. I did not inspect the top of the chimney. They cleaned up well.

A bit pricey $139 for each chimney and $100 for the dryer vent. BUT they came early; called ahead as I had requested; cleaned up very well after themselves. Very Personable. Let me know that repairs were needed (new crowns). Will have to check to see if that is the case.

High's personnel were polite and prompt, and they seemed to work diligently. It should be noted High's employees do not work Tuesdays as the company does not pay overtime. (It has something to do with their pay periods). The job took two full days; and I felt it was reasonably priced.

High's started the job promptly, were professional, gave me a list of other repair sites to investigate before work commenced, & sent a highly skilled brick mason & assistant to make repairs. I was very pleased with the results. Their price was one of the lowest of the estimates I received from competing companies. Clean up job was entirely adequate.

They arrived on time., had courteous service, and seemed very competent. The flue working well now. They worked almost all day, finished the job as promised and did good clean-up.

I HAVE A WOOD STOVE INSERT IN MY DOWNSTAIRS FIREPLACE. I BURN TWO CORDS OF WOOD EACH WINTER. I GET THE CHIMNEY SWEPT AFTER EACH CORD OF WOOD. I ALWAYS CALL HIGHS. THEY ARE PUNCTUAL, POLITE AND CLEAN. THE PRICE IS GOOD TOO.

OUR EXPERIENCE WAS THAT THE COMPANY ARRIVED ON TIME AND PERFORMED A QUALITY SERVICE. IT HAS BEEN A FEW YEARS SINCE THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED, BUT I RECALL THAT THEY DID AN EXCELLENT OVERALL JOB, RESULTING IN US FEELING THAT WE CAN SAFELY USE OUR FIREPLACE.

WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE CHIMNEY CLEANING & REPAIR WORK, & THE TIME SPENT IN EXPLAINING TO US WHY THE REPAIR WORK WAS NECESSARY. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED WHEN WE WERE PROMISED IT WOULD BE & DESPITE BEING A MESSY JOB, GREAT CARE WAS TAKEN NOT TO CREATE A MESS DURING THE CHIMNEY CLEANING.

EASY TO MAKE A TIMED APPOINTMENT WITH THE PHONE STAFF. TECHNICIAN ARRIVED PROMPTLY AND PERFORMED WORK IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER. TECHNICIAN ANSWERED ALL QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS TO MY SATISFACTION

THEY WERE ON TIME, CLEANED SOOT, LEFT AREA AROUND FIRE PLACE CLEAN. THEY WERE POLITE.

THE WORKERS WERE RIGHT ON TIME AND DID A GREAT JOB. I WATCHED THEM TAKE ALL THE LINT OUT OF THE VENTS AND THEY CLEANED EVERYTHING UP BEFORE THEY LEFT.
