That worked very well. There was a little bit of check and the boiler worked again and then stopped. It was two to three weeks while the diagnostics were going and then they replaced on of the parts so its working now. Its working well. They were quite responsive although sometimes I had to call them myself instead of them calling me informing about the state of things. They had to order the spare parts and the lever and then make an appointment so I had to call them my self to check to what extent otherwise its fine. The service man can and technician and did the job. They are quite expensive. Responsiveness could be better. The technician was quite on time.

I had my heater inspected/diagnosed by another known HVAC Company. I paid $89.xx to this HVAC company...I wish I had discovered Angie's list prior to this. So this service call for Harvey is more of a second opinion. On December 27-Saturday my cousin and her husband came over to my house for a visit. Prior to this visit I had sent him the report I received from the HVAC Company. My cousin's husband inspected my heating unit and told me that I only need to replace my capacitor not the motor. He even showed me how to replace the capacitor. It is easy actually. Since I already paid and the $20 is not really much... I did not cancel my Dec. 29 appointment with Harvey. Harvey Company called me early in the morning to say that the tech assigned to come to my place that morning called in-sick. They wanted to reschedule...I was disappointed at first for I had this day as my day-off. The good thing was they rescheduled on the same day...instead of morning their another tech came in the afternoon. So what I did, I bought the parts-capacitor at Tribles in Rockville that morning. I got it for less than $10. I knew about Tribles thru my cousin's husband. After he read the report I sent him, he advised me to inquire about the cost of the motor and capacitor. After knowing the price of the parts which I thought I needed based on the report from that HVAC Company, I delayed calling back this HVAC Company to do the work. This HVAC Company gave me a very high quote. December 29-Monday, the Harvey tech came over, his name is Scott. He had with him his tools/gadget but did not really used it for he said he was in my house only for second opinion after all. He did some visual and manual check. He pushed the motor then told me that I only need a capacitor. I asked him some questions to test his honesty. And yes...SCOTT is HONEST and I would like to say that he is an ASSET to HARVEY W. HOTTEL, INC. I will surely use this provider in the future.
Description of Work: installed the capacitor I supplied.

We got five different work proposals for our HVAC replacement, and it was surprising how much variation there was in terms of the equipment recommended. Harvey Hottel recommended a lower powered system than the others saying that was all that was needed and we need to be careful to not stress our older ductwork. I appreciate that they didn't try to sell an over-powered system. They were professional and a pleasure to deal with.

came and never looked at the inside system or freon charge so did not do a full diagnostic said needed a capacitor, didn't have right one so put together two smaller ones with zip tie and left it hanging in outside unit looked up part and found average cost was $20.00 so they charged me $367.00 to put in different than what was recommended by manufacturer which should have taken all of 5 minutes

The service tech came out on time, and next day. Other companies were not as available. The tech diagnosed a broken blower motor, and quoted me $1800 to fix. He recommended replacing the whole unit for $5,200. He said that the new unit would be more efficient than the old unit. A guy that I know who used to work in the HVAC industry told me a new motor with controller should be $500 max at the local supplier. He told me that the Hottel tech was just trying to sell me a new unit. The motor was $750 online and the controller module was $300. I took the motor out, tested the windings and found that they were fine. I just replaced the electronic controller module rather than the whole motor, so the total cost was $300. It now works fine. I was hoping to pay Hottel a fair price to come out and change the part, because I am not local and Carrier/Bryant dealers will not sell parts to consumers. The efficiency of my current unit is 14SEER, and the blower comes on slowly and quietly. The new unit that they were trying to sell me was 13SEER, and the blower comes on suddenly and is louder. So, the new unit would presumably last longer, but it is not as good as the old unit. I called Hottel to see if they would refund part of the diagnostic fee, which was $130. They did not do it. The person on the phone said that they always change the whole motor, because otherwise, the part may fail again soon. To sum it up, Hottel wanted to charge 6 times the price I paid to fix it. They tried to sell me a new system, and incorrectly told me that the new unit would be more efficient than the old one. They charge a premium for the diagnostic fee, so I tried to get it reduced based on the quality of service. They would not reduce the charge. I'll work on finding a better local HVAC guy to deal with, so that I'm not stuck next time something happens.

Response from Harvey W Hottel Inc
Our job is to fix issue and offer options. In this case the technician with years of experience found a defective blower and recommended it be replaced. He also gave the option of replacing the entire system. The price quoted to complete the repair included all parts and labor to guarantee the problem is fixed right the first. If the technician had mis-diagnosed or failed to diagnosed the issue we would have refunded the full amount. In this case the technician correctly diagnosed the problem and offered multiple solutions. After the technician informed the owner of the options he was able to buy replacement parts and fix the problem himself, without a correct diagnosis this would not have been possible. It is unfortunate that a bad review has been posted given the details.

could not get the Ato come on and stay onThe service was terrific, from the time I and quot;cold calledand quot; Harvey Hottel in panic mode through the repair. This is a long story, but I recently bought a new condo and moved in a couple of weeks ago. The previous owners had a wifi programmable thermostat. From day one I could not get the AC to come on and stay on. I first called a vendor that was listed on our Condominium's Management Vendor List (JB's AC/Heating and Plumbing Repair, in Upper Marlboro, MD). This vendor was a nightmare. He was two hours late and then when he got here he short circuited the whole system and blew out the control board. He then proceeded to and quot;go down to his truck to make a call to see if he could located another control board, he left AND NEVER CAME BACK, NOR RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS!!! Next our Building Management Office recommended that I call McCarthy Services. They first sent a guy who again said the problem was a blown circuit board and that a new one needed to be purchased and installed. By the time he arrived at my condo (1.5 hours late), and diagnosed what he thought was the problem, it was too late to reach a supply house that they use. So he promised that the next day he would go to the supply house, get the control board, and then come back to my place in the morning and install the new board. I never heard back from them until 1:30PM on the following day, to inform me that they couldn't get the circuit board and needed to order it from Texas, and given that it was the 2nd of July, they couldn't get the board until after the long 4th of July weekend. I then contacted the manufacturer ClimateMaster in Oklahoma City, OK who was able to tell me who the original purchaser of the HVAC system was in 2007. It was a local company in Hanover, MD called Chesapeake Systems. I called them and they were very nice and had 7 of the boards and would sell one to me. I drove to Chesapeake Systems (45 minutes) and picked-up the new board. I called McCarthy Services back and spoke to one of the service managers, who said that he could and quot;squeeze me inand quot; for a technician the next day (July 3rd). The technician came around 5:00PM and installed the board and seemed to get the AC system running, and left. However, after the system cooled the unit down to 72 and would never go back on as the temperature rose. I would shut the system down and restart. Again it would go on and cool the unit down to the preferred temperature, but then as the temperature rose it would not automatically come back on. A coworker recommended Harvey Hottel, as her family and next door neighbors have used Harvey Hottel for years and have been very happy with them. I called them and they were extremely customer service oriented(Terrie). She scheduled an expert technician to come to diagnose and fix my problem. This morning the technician arrived (Cliff). He asked me some history questions, and then it took him less than 5 minutes to diagnose the real problem. The problem was a water drainage problem There was a back-up in the drainage pipe which cause the water to slowly rise to a level that the sensor would sense and turn the system off. He blew out the line with nitrogen and cleaned the receptacle. He also assessment the overall and quot;healthand quot; of my unit and I had him replace a couple of parts to be safe. My AC system is working perfectly and my environmental conditions much improved!! I would whole heartedly endorse and recommend Harvey Hottel to anyone who is in need of an HVAC company. I signed-up for their annual service plan too. GREAT WORK AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPPORT!!!!

Harvey W. Hottel helped me select, and then installed, a split-unit air conditioner for the home office on the third floor of my home. (A split-unit AC is one with an outdoor compressor at ground level connected by piping to an indoor wall-mounted unit that supplies and directs the cool air to the room, with a remote control unit for various options). I was very pleased with their careful analysis of what precise unit I needed. This was not a trivial calculation, since while the office is not overly large, it is located directly under a slate roof which receives the afternoon sun. Their installers were capable workman, a pleasure to deal with, and the final result was excellent.

Purchased an and quot;Angie's Dealand quot; for a $28.00 service call. Scheduling was easy. Terri did a great job fitting my job into a busy time period for the company. I received a telephone call when the technician was en-route. He arrived on time. The technician got right to work and inspected the air handler. No repair was necessary. He provided a written assessment.

The service was good. They came out within the week after we purchased the Big Deal. It was pretty quick because of our availability. We opted for a filter change so we spent more than the price of the Big Deal we purchased. It was obviously our choice. We spent a total of $90, but we had a complicated filter that is not something you can go to Home Depot and buy. We like that they were prompt and showed up on time. They were easy to get in touch with. So, we would recommend them.

They came out to assess and determined that my condensation lines were not put in properly by our developer (one of many things, unfortunately). Harvey W Hottel's guy Kerian immediately went to work and fixed it, and that problem was solved. Unfortunately, his fix blocked the opening for putting a filter into the unit. I had to call and set another appointment to rectify this problem. They were quick in setting up the follow up and didn't charge for it, and Kerian is a nice guy. I just wish it had been done right the first time.

We began a gut rehab on our new property. The Harvey Hottel team was great from the start. They did not hesitate to answer all of our questions. The installation crew was courteous and professional. Their attention to detail was impressive! They provided a number of pricing comparisons so that we could see our costs when going with the geothermal unit. A skilled crew from office to truck. Highly recommended.

Everyone was extremely polite, from the appointment scheduler to the workmen. The first repairman examined the furnace and said it needed a replacement part, but it was not on his truck and he would have to order it and return the next day. The next day a different repairman arrived with the part, but he said the first guy had failed to clean part of the furnace to expedite the repair. That said, everything was fixed and the furnace has run smoothly since. Both men warned that the system was old and would need to be replaced and gave me a rough estimate of the replacement cost. That gives me time to prepare and I appreciate it. I've used Harvey Hottel before and would call them again and recommend them to friends.

Service was great. The inspector was very helpful in explaining to me the condition, age, and function of my system. Only problem was that the company itself was very unresponsive and slow in scheduling - I had to call three times and email - calls were not returned and I was only able to schedule when I happened to call when the right person was in the office. Appears the issue was they only have one person that handles the Angie's List scheduling. Despite this, I would use them again as the guy that came out was great.
