I happened to contact them only after I'd already obtained a couple of estimates for geothermal heat pump installation, and I'm leaving this review because Patrick Murphy at Hottel spent a good 10-15 minutes on the phone with me going through all the pros and cons of different geothermal brands (CM, WF, Hydron Module) even though I had not hired them yet. Really appreciate the sage and unbiased advice he gave me over the phone, this is not easy to get!

On Tuesday, 5/24/16 I scheduled an appointment to have a tech come out, run a diagnostics test on my AC because my unit stopped working. The customer service lady said she would have a tech come out on Thursday between 1pm and 4 pm. I called them around 3:30 because time was running out and I was concerned that I hadn't heard from anyone. I was then informed that Hottel had sold their residential division to CropMetcalfe. The customer service lady for CropMetcalfe said they had NO VISIBILITY INTO THE APPOINTMENTS THAT WERE SCHEDULED BY HOTTEL! No one even tried to call me or my wife to let us know there might be a problem. I took off of work for a 1/2 day so I could be here within the timeframe those turkeys specified! These clowns are amateurs and DO NOT deserve anyone's business!

It went as expected. No surprises.

They were very attentive to our observations of what happened when the furnace failed. This helped to quickly diagnois the problem and secure a replacement part in a hurry. The part may have been the most expensive part of the furnace to break. They were patient with us and advised how we can make phased in repairs within our budget. Very professional!

He said my furnace is dying and will need replacement in the near future. Meanwhile it runs, for which I am grateful

We were very interested in getting the geothermal because of the 30 percent tax credit (because we are renovating a 1949 house and making a two story addition and finishing the attic). They dealt with us in a professional manner, and were to provide state-of-the-art equipment which gets great reviews, and we spoke to a few of their digging subcontractor--Connolly-- clients which had very positive reviews. However, we ended up going with regular HVAC because geothermal was not estimated to give us significant savings until 15 years from now.

The technician was prompt and properly diagnosed and repaired the leak at a very reasonable cost. No issues with the company or service.

I am very unhappy with the service and scheduling of Harvey Hottel. Three years ago, we installed a $15,000 ~ +/- system by Hottel. We did so based on solid reviews here on Angies List. The deal came with a free annual service contract for 10 years. Unfortunately, the scheduling is no where near as quick for service as for when I bought the system. I called today for my summer maintenance, and was told there are no appointments until end of July! That is more than 45 days from now - and when summer is nearly over. That is completely unacceptable. You cannot take more than $10,000 in earnings, and then not be prompt in repair or maintenance. Buyer beware..........................

After buying Angies List deal, I called to schedule an appointment for a diagnosis. Clearly Angies List people are put in a different group as only one person could schedule this and the first available appointment was 10 days out. I was given a window from 12-5pm for the technician to arrive. The day of the service, the technician called at 3:25pm and said he would be there within the hour. He showed up at 4:55pm. I told him the issue that I was having and he went out to test the pressure. Without ever attempting to turn on the system, he came back and suggested refrigerant recharge and a dye to determine where the leak was if the system was leaking. I asked about the warranty/guarantee on the service and he said there was none. So I said after you leave today, you're not responsible for anything and he said yes. While he suggested there might be a leak, further technicians from a different organization who did further diagnosis were sure there was a leak. So essentially they wanted me to spend at least $700 with no guarantee on anything that would only buy them a much more expensive trip to look for the dye, fix the leak, and add refrigerant to the system. When I declined all the services, the technician took a long time to leave my house, answering phone calls about other jobs and writing down notes, which was particularly offensive since he did not show up till the last five minutes of the 5 hour window to begin with and now was 30 minutes past the end of the window. Simply put, don't waste your time and money with this company. Follow-Up to HWH's comments: The other organization that came AFTER Hottel could tell there was a leak without using dye to determine if there was a leak. They used an alternative method and solved the problem while Hottel's method would have leaked out all the freon and then I would have had to spend a great deal more money on a second trip.

I bought the Angie's list deal to have A/C cleaning and check-up. It's indicated on the deal that the company serves PG county in MD. However when I called to set up the appointment, the person took the called told me that they don't serve PG county any more. I was trying to explain to her how much inconvenience this is causing me, she rudely cut me off, and saying she knew where the city where my property is at, and it's not worth it for them to come to provide the service. I am very disappointed by this experience and now I need to figure out how to get my money back.

The serviceman was very knowledgeable. I would use them again.

Sprinkler pipe burst in utility closet. Swamped furnace. Tech came out, and repaired the furnace in a jiffy.

The service was okay. We paid more than the $28 Big Deal because we had other repairs and there was a charge for parts. The furnace has been working pretty well since then. The part itself was not that expensive, but it was the labor that was the most expensive. They arrived on time, knew exactly what was wrong with the unit, and got it fixed. What I like the most was the fact that they fixed it right the first time. I think they are a little pricey. They were right on-time.

It was fine. The workers were very nice and professional.

They did not say anything about my humidifier being covered. When I brought that up to him, Wayne said the humidifier worked fine. Now it is going to cost me $500.00 to fix it, yet it is still under warranty. In the service contract, it did not say anything about the humidifier not being covered.

For ten (10) years, we had low flow (what most people incorrectly call "low water pressure") at my house in DC. The symptoms were that the water flow would drop when more than one fixture was in use. For example, if someone used the kitchen faucet to rinse dishes while someone else was taking a shower, the flow at the faucet and shower would be very low. I had at least four plumbers and two DC Water representatives check the problem through two renovations. I replaced the water supply lines in the house and all the way to the meter, which is NOT CHEAP. After a decent experience with Harvey Hottell's boiler service tech, I contacted their plumbing department about this problem. The plumber came out on schedule, diagnosed the problem as being a DC Water problem (at the tap). When I told him they denied it was a problem, he scheduled a meeting with a DC Water representative and explained to him why it was a problem with DC Water's tap of the water main (basically, he turned on the water in the house and explained that the noise coming from the tap at the main underground was turbulence indicating reduced flow). This demonstration was enough to convince DC Water--finally, after 10 years and two other tap replacements--that they were doing something wrong. DC Water promptly fixed the problem thanks to Harvey Hottell's diagnosis and persistence when other plumber's had failed. Thank you, Todd!

It turned out good. No problem at all. They showed up on time. They made a call to me when they were at the door and not 20-30 minutes before. But they were in the time limit that they said they were going to be. He waited patiently there. The service was performed flawless. These are brand new units, so I just wanted somebody else to take a look at it and give an opinion. With regard to price, it looks like the $48 was a great price. But it was probably only an introductory price. When I asked them for the regular price, they are in the same range as the other ones, but I think it's still a little bit on the high side. Maybe, I would use them again in the future after I compare them with other services. I need to first compare the regular prices what they would charge. He was the first service provider which I used for this kind of heating. I have to see how much other service providers charge for the same service.

My appointment went well. The technicians were very professional and honest about the issues with my system and what was necessary to improve efficiency. The techs provided several options and approximate costs associated with each and spent time to talk with me about the pros and cons of each option. I certainly feel more comfortable working with this company now that I have had this initial consult.
