They were prompt and did a good job on the chairs. I thought the price was a little high partricularly since they didn't go the extra mile and clean the chairs.
Description of Work: We had six wood dinning chairs that were falling apart. They basically rebuilt them and now they are sturdy and better than new.

I contacted the business by phone to get directions, hours of operation, and to give them an approximate time of arrival. Letting them know in advance of your arrival is recommended since the doors are always locked and you have to bang h****** the doors to get someone's attention inside the warehouse. An employee gave me an estimate and time for completion of the project. They delivered the bench in good condition with the repairs I had requested within a week. It was a small job but I was appreciative of the quick turnaround. The cost seemed high but the quality of the repair was good. I would recommend getting more than one estimate to compare prices.

I called Harry Johnson based on reviews I found in Angie's List. They were polite and asked that I bring the chairs by for inspection. The estimate was done rapidly and professionally and I was told it would take 3-4 weeks due to a backlog of work (no problem for me). I was called in about 3 weeks to come pick up the repaired chairs. The chairs now have very nice looking fine mesh bottoms which were stained in order to match the chair color. I am pleased with the quality of work and the price. The only negative is that the office is not always manned. You have to call to be sure someone will be available in the office at a certain time.
Description of Work: The mesh bottoms of two chairs needed replacement.

We have two pieces of furniture we inherited over 30 years ago from my grandaunt. I always wanted to have the dresser and wine table professionally redone but never got around to it. While searching Angie's List one day, I came across the reports on Harry C Johnson and was delighted to find it was close to our home. I contacted them for an estimate via e-mail and they responded immediately. They asked me to send photos of the pieces in order to provide an estimate. They responded the same day with an e-mail quote. I admit I was a bit apprehensive about having someone I didn't know come and take my treasures away. These pieces have sentimental value being the only family heirlooms we have. I had a good feeling about this so I called the office to make arrangements for pick up. They came as scheduled and picked up the pieces commenting on what nice pieces they were. Within 2 weeks, Paco contacted me asking that I stop by the shop to see their progress. Each piece was hand stripped, and we discussed finishing options. The furniture was returned to our home 4 weeks later, being placed in their original places. Paco was a pleasure to work with. We are so happy with the results and highly recommend Paco and Harry Johnson & Sons.
Description of Work: Harry C. Johnson & Son refinished a wine table and a dresser circa 1930. They picked up the pieces (the dresser from an upstairs bedroom), hand stripped and stained them, and then delivered the pieces back to my home.

The company responded promptly to my initial request and subsequent emails, provided a quote, made special arrangements for me to drop the chair off, and then finished the repair within a few days. The repair itself was great, and the chair is as good as new.

The woman with whom I first had contact at the company was polite and informative. She set a date for a company representative to come to my home and make an estimate. He arrived at the scheduled time, having called 30 minutes before arriving to let me know he was on the way. He was punctual, courteous, and businesslike. The company performed the work well and efficiently. I have no complaints whatsoever.
Description of Work: The company repaired a dining room chair, the arm of which had been severed, repaired a desk drawer, the front of which refused to stay connected to the structure, repaired a desk chair, the arm of which was loose, and repaired four wobbly kitchen dining chairs.

1 week after pickup, I called them since they had not called me back -- to get the estimate for the stiching. I had to leave a message - they called back to tell me that the stiching would be another $120 (which was ok), and that it would be another week to pick up the loveseat. I had to call them again to schedule the dropoff and pay by creditcard before I even received the loveseat back (and was able to see everything fixed). That made me nervous because I was paying the $520 before I got my furniture back and could tell that the work was done well. I recevied the loveseat the next week - and everything was fine. They were always prompt and the fix was great. They were very professional also and were very good at explaining what they were going to do to fix my furniture. I would use them again - I would only caution people to make sure you follow up with them, as they are not really good with following up with you.
Description of Work: Had an antique loveseat that had a broken leg. Called and they scheduled a time to come to my home to look at it, estimate the price and pick up the loveseat. When they came they told me what they would have to do to fix it, that it would be $400, as well they noticed that some of the stiching that needed to be fixed (its silk). They took the loveseat away and told me they would call when repaired as well as call with an estimate to repair the stiching. At that time, they said it would be ready the following week and they could drop it off on Wed or Thur within my schedule.

The company said that they could not make any guarantees about the quality or success of the repair that they would attempt to make but, in fact, the table was repaired to a "as good as new" condition. I plan on taking all of my furniture repairs to this company in the future and recommend them without hesitation. You need look no further.

I found the company on Angie's List, called and left a message - they responded quickly - they picked up the chair when they said they would and delivered it back to me when promised - it was an expensive repair but the chair is a leather Hancock & Moore recliner and it cost a lot of money to begin with so it was worth it.

Contacted the company based on Angie's list reviews. The chairs were in bad condition, wooden chairs with many loose joints and seat upholstery with holes - they weren't useable but are antiques that we wanted to recondition. A couple of the chairs also had split wood that needed to be replaced. Met with representative at convenient time for me shortly after I called, got a detailed estimate, dropped off all eight chairs, fabulous work performed, job completed within 2 weeks as promised. pleasant and courteous. Seemed a bit expensive at about $150 per chair, but well worth it and I didn't comparison shop so this may be a very reasonable price. I will definitely use this provider again.

Unfortunately, my set of art deco dinner table chairs is suspectable to breakage if not used carefully, and this is the third time I have had a broken chair. It is not easy to find specials in this area who are able to do this work. I began using Harry Johnson for a previous repair when the company I previously used for furniture work, Apple, disappeared from the local scene. Johnson performed the repair within a week. The work appears to be of good quality and one would not know that the chair was broken. They have also strengthened the chair underneath to make future breakage less likely. I am quite satisfied with the quality of the work, however, the price of $200.00 was to be considerably more than I paid for identical work in 2007 when I paid $125.00. The lack of competition would seem to be a possible explanation for this price increase.

Excellent - very professional. The dining set I had done is about 50 years old and pretty damaged (it got a lot of use over those years). They took the set apart and refinished all sides of the wood by hand. The chairs, at a minimum, needed to be re-glued; one required a couple of new spindles to be turned. Now they are safe to sit on! The set looks beautiful, as does the repair to the library table - I couldn't have been more pleased with the work.

We had a kitchen drawer that fell to the floor and fell apart. We took the drawer to the Harry C. Johnson & Son shop for an estimate. She gave us the estimate, told us how the repair would be done, and because we needed the drawer told us we could come back for it in a couple of days. The shop called us the next day, and when we picked up the drawer, it was better than new, completely rebuilt and reinforced so that it will stay together in the future.

I brought the chair to the company (they do have pickup and delivery services, but the chair was easy to transport), explained what I wanted, and picked out a piece of fabric from their excess fabric bin. I only needed less than a yard. They called about 4 weeks later, having completed the work. The chair is in pristine condition; no one would know that the back had been recreated. It looks as it did the day my grandmother purchased the chair.
Description of Work: I had a mahogany desk chair purchased in early 1930s that had seen better days. The fretwork on the back was broken (pieces missing), the wood scratched and dented, and the cushion frayed and torn. I had this company create a new back, refinish, and reupholster the chair.

Everything was great. They answered the phone when I called, and when I left messages they called back and left very clear messages. They gave great directions to their shop and made very clear when they would be open or closed. They immediately knew what to do with my grandmother's stool. I didn't have a picture of how the stool looked 30 years ago, but they listened to my descriptions and they got it 100 percent right. They did by hand exactly the kind of rush work I wanted on the top of the stool, and the results are excellent. Basically, they gave the stool back to me in the exact condition it was in decades ago, and it had been stuck in a musty basement for years and got pretty battered. I'm 100 percent satisfied. Considering all the work that went into it, I think their price was reasonable. I plan to go back with another piece of very old furniture that needs to be restored. They were nice, friendly, answered all my questions, and gave good advice.
Description of Work: The people at Harry Johnson's completely restored a very old stool that belonged to my grandmother and had been in a basement for years. They stripped off the old finish, sanded it very well (it had a lot of nicks and scratches, I don't know how they got it so smooth), they made the connections in the wood strong (it had been wobbly). Then they showed it to me so I could decide on a finish, and they gave great advice on how to finish it. They applied the finish and then did some beautiful and very skilled rush work by hand to the entire top of the stool, and applied a clear finish to the rush work to make it stronger.
