Spoke to Paco who said to take pictures and e-mail it to him. So I did and heard nothing back. I followed with them by phone and still never heard back. If the pre-sales service is this bad imagine how it will be if something goes wrong!

Although they are not inexpensive, they did an absolutely beautiful job & completed the work within 2 days. Now, I have the most sturdy, reinforced drawer that will never come apart again, at least not in this lifetime!
Description of Work: I had a middle desk drawer that constantly came apart from its original gluing, plus the pencil tray fell apart with the end of the drawer. I took it to Harry C. Johnson & Son Inc. & they did an absolutely wonderful job!

It went great. I have used this company so much in the past, I think they can read my mind. I just ask them to do something for me and they know what questions to ask to accomplish the task. They came to my place. Took some measurements, and pictures and then went back to the workshop and created the perfect item for me.

They did a very nice job! We were very satisfied with their work. They estimated it would take a couple weeks and they completed within the expected time frame.

I am surprised by this request as I have already done one months ago. Bottom line is the desk was picked up & taken to their workroom, then returned in beautiful condition. Looked better than I had ever seen it. Also had a table leaf reenforced.

The provider did not do anything.
Description of Work: I contacted this company because of the good reviews it seems to have on Angie's list. I sent pictures of the piece of furniture I needed to get repaired (as I'd like to try to sell it), and the provider decided, based on the pictures sent, that the cost of repair was going to exceed the cost of the furniture itself. While I appreciated the honesty of the provider, and I admit that we were not talking about a nice antique piece here, I still did not appreciate the assumption from this provider that the furniture was not worth to bother with. The provider had no idea of the value of the furniture, decided from the start that it was a piece of crap, and basically was not interested in helping. When I wrote to the provider, I also mentioned that I had other pieces in my home that would need repair (including some antiques which I inherited from my parents from France), but that did not seem worth for the provider to inquire about. I assume that this company does not need new clients. In that economy, they are lucky... I will then go to the competitors to get that job done.

Excellent. Table surface was badly damaged by leaking solvent material, Harry C. Johnson & Son Company was able to refinish the table surface to perfectly match the rest of the dining room ensemble. Table looks better than it did when we first purchased it. Appointments for estimate, pickup, and delivery when completed were right on time. Work was completed ahead of time. Pickup and delivery was very professional with extraordinary care demonstrated for both the table and the other furniture and surfaces going out and coming into the house. This is the second time we've used this firm and would readily do so in the future. Highly recommend them.

My chairs are not priceless antiques but they have family associations and are important to me. Two black painted Hitchcock chairs had white paint adhering to the backs from being pushed against a painted wall (no chair rail). Also white spots from a previous wall paint job. The victorian chair belonged to my grandmother, and my aunt (now deceased) did the needlepoint cover, so I wanted to reuse it if possible. I don't know who the workman was but s/he did a wonderful job. The victorian chair no longer wobbles or comes apart in your hands, and the two Hitchcocks are almost like new. Paint was matched perfectly. I will use them again and I would recommend them to anyone. Maybe a bit pricey but if you care about your pieces it's worth it.

We are delighted with the results. The chair is sturdy, the table looks brand new. We had no idea the floral inlay is beautifully colored! The veneer repairs are undetectable. The overall finish is now gleaming and uniform. If only we had had this done years ago! We had some sticker-shock over the price, but given the cost of a (less interesting) replacement piece, we went ahead with the repair and feel we got lasting value for our investment--something to pass on to our kids. The service was informative, professional, and prompt. The work was completed ahead of schedule (though the original quoted time was pretty generous).
Description of Work: 1. Repaired, stripped, and refinished a small, somewhat ornate, inherited, wood coffee table, which has a framed glass cover over a patterned veneer top that is centered with a floral inlay design. Liquids, unknown decades ago, had obviously seeped beneath the glass and stained the veneer, some of which had lifted up, some chipped away. Overall finish had gotten damaged, scuffed, faded, uneven. 2. Re-glued legs on antique Windsor chair.

I emailed the company with pictures of the pedestals and the damage. He gave me a quote of $475-$600. I took the pedestals in and the office manager looked at it and said it would be $600. I asked her about how long it would take and she said about 10-15 days, again no problem. They contacted me a week later and said it was done. The pedestals looked great and the legs are sturdy. I couldn't even tell were the cracks were on the pedestal. This is my first time having something restored but I think the price may have been a little high. I had another quote, where I had emailed pictures and they said $475 with the possibility it could be higher but it felt like they may have stayed closer to the $475 (I know that's speculation but it's the feeling I had). I chose Harry C Johnson & Sons because they were closer to my work and I could go there during lunch. With that said, since this was my first time doing any restoration, it's possible their pricing is spot on. They did stay in the range they quoted me. Their communication was great and The work was great. You could tell that the person that did the repairs took pride in his work and it shows. I would use them again.

These guys are fantastic - I highly recommend them for the quality of their work, very quick service and customer service overall. We moved over the summer and the moving company broke the leg off an antique desk that was given to me by my parents. (What was worse was that the moving crew threw away the leg, so it couldn't be reattached.) I was very worried that I wouldn't be able to get it fixed. But I called Johnson & Sons and sent them a few pictures. They responded right away that they could fix it by building a replacement leg and attaching it to the desk. Within a week, they came out, took measurements and then two weeks later returned with an exact replica of the old leg. They did such a fantastic job that you can't even tell the difference between the replacement and the other legs. I am so grateful that they were able to help, and $650 seemed like a bargain for the quality and craftsmanship of the work they did.

They did fantastic work. The table looks new again, the leafs extend easily, and the chairs are solid. I could not believe the difference. Paco was extremely responsive. He invited me to come and see the table after the original finish was removed, and demonstrated how different stains would look. He appreciated that it was a sentimental piece, and offered suggestions and input without being pushy. Pickup and delivery were very prompt. The estimate ended up being accurate. The price is high, but you get what you pay for. I recommend them 100% and without reservation.
Description of Work: I have a dining table set that has been in my family for more than 50 years. By the time I inherited it, it was in rough shape. They refinished and restored the table, cleaned the and adjusted the leaf extender mechanism, and reglued and refinished the chairs (including one that had literally fallen apart).

Nick was very accommodating and took into consideration my being chemically sensitive. He used water based products that we new for him, and when they impacted the outcome of the top, he made me a new one, without any extra charge! This way, there was minimal off-gassing for me in my home. So all in all, although the project was slowed down by the making of a second top, it went exceedingly well!
Description of Work: They sent me a expert cabinet maker to retrofit a vintage credenza, so that it could be used as an entertainment center. Nick custom made a top, where this credenza was missing one, so that we could run wires in and out, without it being an eye-sore. In addition he used levelers to raise the piece off the floor just enough so that the wires from inside the cabinet could be threaded through holes he created (fitted with grommets), thus keeping the beautiful wood of this cabinet in tact. The holes were in the bottom and not visible. He also repaired the latches, and fitted the cabinet with the surge protectors I provided. He also very kindly connected the new tv we bought to the cable, and hid the wires as described. He was a pleasure to have around, worked slowly and carefully, and with great attention to detail. I was thrilled with the finished product.

Our initial call was returned within the hour and the furniture repairman was informative. He offered to do the repair that day and quoted the minimum price on that first call. We have never needed to have wooden furniture repaired previously. The price of $80.00 seemed high to us, so we did not use their services. Since then, we found that, in this area and for those services, the amount quoted is an appropriate rate.
Description of Work: The service that we needed was to replace the bottom in a file-sized wooden desk drawer. The drawer was overloaded and fell into pieces when opened.

The staff beginning with the office manager, were always positive and helpful and I cannot say enough about their professionalism, timliness and craftsmanship. I have and will continue to recommend them to anyone in the United States as it would be worth driving even a long distance to save any piece of furniture that you care about. I want to attach pictures of the before and after of the table, but was unable to find a way to do that on this form.
Description of Work: I inherited a 1920's Duncan Phyfe drum side table from my mother several years ago when I lived in Orlando, Florida. I moved to Baltimore, Maryland a few months ago and this month turned the heater on as it was so cold. One morning, I went into my living room and found the drum table badly damaged from moisture loss. I called all around and no one was willing to even attempt to repair it. Finally, I looked on Angie's List and saw the reviews for Harry C. Johnson & Sons furniture repair and refinishing company which is located approximately 45 minutes away. I sent him pictures of the damaged table and he e-mailed me back that he could help me but he wasn't certain if he would be able to save the original embossed leather top. Mr. Montrose, the owner, called me and told me that he would be able to save the original leather top and that saved me a great deal of money. When I picked the table up yesterday, I could not believe the miracle he had performed. The painstaking work he and his staff did is remarkable. They had to carefully remove each layer of veneer, steam the wood and re-install it on the table with new glue. The time and effort they took in saving my mother's table means a lot to me. It has been in the family ever since I can remember and will remain so now that Mr. Montrose and his staff have saved it using the original wood and veneers.

This is about the fifth or sixth time this year that I had them work on some of my furniture and I am always amazed at the finished product. The job was fantastic! I have learned to just tell them what I would like and let them do the magic. They are the experts and they do an expert job. In fact, I just sent them another group of items to work on.
Description of Work: I had a number of antiques repaired, restored, and worked on. Items included re-building the feet of a china cabinet, replacement of missing barrel stays, tightening some furniture and removing some gauges. Then I had the items cleaned but not refinished.

It was one of the most perfect experiences that I have had with furniture refinishing. They picked up the pieces. Told me the cost and anticipated return date. They delivered the furniture in perfect condition, put it in place. And to top it all off - they finished the job in record time (early).
Description of Work: I have been using Harry C Johnson & Son all year long working on various projects. The most current project was to restore a four piece antique bedroom set. It was a bear to get out of the house. Each piece was sun bleached, dirty, scratched, etc. I just got the suite back today and it looks fantastic. It really does look like a bedroom suite - all the pieces match. It has been cleaned, and broken pieces repaired. It looks better than new! And the original finish is still there.

All I can say is that based on past work done by Harry C Johnson & Co., I knew what to expect when I got my furniture back - but I have to tell you that I was more than surprised at the finished job. Both sets of chairs look fantastic. I trust the company to do the best job possible and they did/do. They scheduled a pick up time and took the furniture. I told them what I would like done. They gave me a good price and told me when to expect the items back. Each time, they exceed my expectations.
Description of Work: I had sent a set of dining room chairs as well as a set of living room chairs (at two different times) to be cleaned, restored and upholstered. The set of living room chairs were sent first, followed a few weeks later by the dining room chairs. I just received both sets back today and was very, very pleased. The dining room chairs have not looked this good since they were bought, and that was around the1880's. The dining room chairs look fantastic. They needed tightening and upholstered. They came back looking like new. Both sets were wood. You can now see the wonderful grain.

There really is not too much to tell. I knew right away that the staff really did know their stuff. I got a strong feeling of trust and professionalism. So, all I did is tell Paco what I wanted don and what I expected and he delivered. The furniture went out in bad shape and came back to me totally restored. In fact the experience was so fantastic, I sent out more items to be refinished/restored upon the delivery of the first finished load. They are now working on my third order and I have two - three more projects for them to work on. While there are other great companies to work with, you would be foolish to ignore this company. They do fantastic work at a great price. They really know their business.
Description of Work: I had a number of antique items rebulit, refinished, and restored. One item (a small desk) was falling apart and missing some pieces. You would never know the condition upon seeing the finished product. A chair that I had repaired looks as good as new.
