Mr DeBaldo promptly returned my call and showed up the very next day on time. He thoroughly assessed the stumps, explained what needed to be done, and provided an on the spot estimate. He performed the work the very same day and finished up the next day. Once he got into the stumps, he ended up doing more work than he thought and did not charge any more. He was very professional and I would highly recommend him.

A Stump Removal Only Company provided professional, fast, and quality work. I hired the company after two previous tree services were unable and/or only partially able to complete the job. One of the companies described the job as "impossible to complete on such a steep grade." A Stump Removal Only Company made an assessment and completed the job on the same day describing the project as "a challenge, but nothing that we can't complete." The company has equipment that allows for complicated jobs and the knowledge to find creative solutions to difficult stump removal problems. The owner has years of experience in not only stump removal, but also landscaping. This experience helps in making decisions not only for the immediate removal of the stump, but also for future projects that may be involved in the area such as retaining walls or patios. All such issues are taken into consideration when conducting business with A Stump Removal Only Company. There was professionalism and great service from start to finish to the point the owner offered to remove a small stump at the corner of the property free of charge since the equipment was there and it would save me a few hours of digging. I highly recommend A Stump Removal Only Company for any and all stump jobs. Don't waste your time with landscaping groups. When you need a stump removed, go to the specialists. You won't regret it.
Description of Work: The service entailed removing a the stump and associated surface roots of a 4 foot in diameter silver maple located on significant slope in the backyard. The entire surface area for removal was approximately 6 ft wide by 5 ft wide by 2 ft deep.

Working with Ed and his son was a great experience from start to finish. After calling Ed on the telephone he returned my call promptly and kept calling until we connected. Ed and his son did a great job removing a stump from the side of my house at a very reasonable price. I talked to Ed on the telephone a few times and he first made sure that he knew whether there were any utility lines under the stump, which I though exhibited good judgment and careful and cautious planning. After the utilities were dealt with he came over to remove the stump. It was halfway between my property and the neighbor's, and had uprooted both my chain link fence and the neighbor's wood fence. Ed was able to completly remove the fairly large stump and to fix the fences as much as humanly possible. When i returned home after Ed was finished it looked as if the stump had never been there. I also though Ed's price was very reasonable considering the size of the stump. Ed also gave me some good advice about my lawn problems ( he used to take care of lawns in a previous life.) I would most definitely use Ed again for any services that he had to offer. It is nice to find an honest and competent man these days.

It overall went perfectly. He worked to understand the larger scope of the project we were doing and took time to allow coordination from our contractor. Frank was interested in our long-term success of the project, and made efforts to ensure that. Not only did he get the job done, he saved our project schedule.
Description of Work: We called Frank on a Friday afternoon - our contractor was stopped due to a tree stump below grade that we were previously unaware of. Frank called us back on Friday night, and agreed to come by the next day. He came as agreed, we immediately agreed upon a price and he began work immediately. The scope of our project was more than originally anticipated. Due to our membership on Angie's list, Frank held the price as much as possible, resulting in an effective discount. We will absolutely use Frank again for this service - his services and prompt response enabled our grading project to continue on schedule.

I called and left a message for Frank on a Friday afternoon not expecting to hear from him until the next week. He called that evening and said they would be able to come the next day. Once at my place he saw he wouldn't be able to get the grinder to the stump due to the steep slope but he and his son would be able to take it down to the ground by hand. They worked until dark with chainsaws and hand tools and removed the stump and the fence. The next morning they were back to remove all the debris. I am very happy with their work and highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Frank and his son removed a difficult stump in my yard. It was 4 feet tall, 5 feet in diameter, on a steep slope with a fence embedded in it! Nobody else wanted to touch it.

When I first spoke with Frank on the phone, I was very impressed with his extensive knowledge and experience. He asked a lot of specific questions about my stumps that I would not have thought of on my own, like, what was I planning to do with the space after the stumps were removed. Most other companies don't bother with such details, but most other companies won't do more than shave the stump down to slightly below the ground level. My stumps, which I originally counted as 4, were scattered in my backyard of a home we'd moved into just over a year ago. We really wanted to improve the look of our yard by taking them out, and possibly planting new trees, so having the stumps taken out right was important to us. When Frank came to do them, we had an interesting tour of my yard. It turned out that there were many more stumps!! They were clustered near the others, and were shaved off at ground level, but were still there, and would impede my gardening plans. Frank also helped me identify a choke-cherrry tree that was in trouble, showed me how it was dying, and taught me about the species. (His background is in landscaping, so he's very knowledgeable!). I opted to take the tree out and have the stump removed at the same time, which was handled with ease. He did not have the space in his truck to remove the tree branches (it was a small tree), and he warned me of that before he got started, which I appreciated. He also warned me that the stump grinding will generate big piles of wood chips, which he could also not remove. I was glad for the warning, but am also happy to compost them locally. In the end, the job was much bigger than Frank was expected from what I described as "four stumps", especially because I didn't mention that one of the stumps was as big as it was! (It was obscured partially under the choke-cherry branches, and I didn't see some of the other smaller stumps.) When he calculated how much it would cost, I was very happy. I know stump work is expensive, and from other estimates from companies that would only shave a stump to ground level, I was expecting to pay at least $1000. Frank was willing to grind out the 4 stumps completely, roots and all, take down 2 choke-cherry trees, and grind out the additional 5 stumps that we found for $1500. Considering the size of the job, I was thrilled!! I feel like I got a wonderful value for my money. After we agreed, Frank set to work. He and his son worked very professionally, and safely. They used barriers to keep the rest of my yard and neighbor's property clean and safe. His equipment did not damage my lawn at all. And even though the job turned out to be much bigger in scope and work than what he was expecting from our initial phone discussion, they stayed late to finish in one day. They even took pictures of the enormous stump, and emailed them to me. I am very pleased with the workmanship, and the results. My neighbors have already commented to me how much better my yard looks without the hulking stumps. I would recommend Frank highly to anyone that needs to have stumps removed. He's a stump miracle worker!!
Description of Work: Nine stumps, including a 14 foot wide stump were removed. The root systems were all dug out as well, so we can plant in the same spaces. One of the stumps was near a fence and a garden, and Frank was able to dig the stump out without harming either. They worked very cleanly and safely, erecting barriers around the edges of the work sites to keep debris from flying all over my yard. Overall, I'm extremely pleased. The work exceeded my expectations, and my backyard looks great now.

Frank and his son did a great job removing the roots, which there were many large ones.. I was very clear on what I wanted done and I was impressed with his work. He is a pleasure to talk to and he explains in detail the whole job. I gave all the wood to a relative, so I had no trouble getting rid of the roots, including the mulch.
Description of Work: Tree roots from 6 silver maples and 2 small stumps were removed, some had to be grinded out, located on the back and sides of the property. The job took most of the day to complete due to the many roots above and below ground.

Frank DeBaldo has an unusual approach to providing estimates and service. He prefers to provide the last 'free on-site consultative estimate' and claims a 94 percent success rate. It 's hard to appreciate how this approach can work so well, unless you factor in Frank's confidence in his ability to please the client with a thoughful analysis of the client's requirements. He offers options and explanations and draws on many years of experience with both his trade and personal approach. Frank loves to talk but also loves to do an exceptionally good job. On the down side, Frank had limited space on his truck for debris removal. He gave a high price estimate for debris removal, and so, we chose not to include it. We are very pleased with Frank's service.
Description of Work: A silver maple tree stump and immediately adjoining flare roots (about six feet in diameter) were ground to a depth of six inches. The resulting wood mulch was left in a neat pile. Also, two planting holes were dug to a depth of 1 foot. One right next to the stump was 3 feet in diameter and the other, about eight feet away, was 2 feet in diameter.

Frank and his son did a great job grinding out a large stump in a tricky spot (in a fence corner on a DC alley). After learning I wanted to replant there, they made the extra effort to get out the large roots and get deeper than normal, which will make all the difference. They explained what they were doing at every step, moved a lot of mulch back and forth (like I said, it was a big stump), cleaned up the site thoroughly, and basically did a fantastic job. I had initially contracted with a general tree company who totally put me on the backburner after the recent storms, and I'm glad they did -- I'm sure I got a much better effort from A Stump Removal Only. The name kind of says it all: they only do stumps and do them very well in my experience.

My experience with "A Stump Removal Only" was 100% positive. Frank was extremely responsive, courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. Frank was very thorough, asking questions that no other competitors knew, or thought, to ask. He was very careful to make sure all of my power lines and gas lines wouldn't be affected by his work. He arranged for the gas and utility companies to come to the site and mark the lines. He told me he wouldn't be the cheapest but he would do the best job, which was true. Frank was only slightly higher that the cheapest of the eight prices quotes that I did get. He was very up front with all of the options. He was friendly, responsive and professional. I cannot image that anyone else could do a better job. I will definitley use him again!

I had called another company first, and their price was a good bit lower than what Frank charged, but then again I left messages with that company and they never did respond even after I told them I was willing to have the work done. Not only that, but after talking with Frank, I found out they should have let me know that Miss Utility needed to be involved. Turns out that several of the stumps were right over gas lines by the side of my house. Maybe that company realized that they had underbid for the amount of work they would have to do? Frank and his son did a very nice job. Prior to coming out to give an estimate he took care of calling Miss Utility so that the yard was marked. I had told them I had 10 medium to small sized stumps. My mistake, in retrospect, because three of them were actually very large. Frank also found another stump that I had missed. Despite my incorrect description of the stump sizes, they gave me an estimate and I gave the go-ahead to do the work. They did a nice, neat job grinding the stumps down with minimal mess and no damage to the yard, and no damage to any of the utilities. Not only that, but they were friendly and pleasant to deal with, which is a plus. Took them until dark to get the job done, but I didn't feel they were in a rush. Overall a good experience and I recommend them!
Description of Work: Ground down 11 stumps, well 9 of them were stumps and 2 were more like leftover roots that had been in the yard for years.

I found this company on Angie’s list and decided to try it because of the good reviews. I needed to have a tree stump removed. I called and left a message and the next day got a return call from Frank the owner. I explained the problem and he gave me a price based on my description, and even discussed other options for removing the stump that might have been cheaper. He seemed genuinely interested that I understood my options even if one of those options meant his not getting the work. He agreed to take a look at the work involved, came that same day and removed the stump. I really appreciate his fairness, prompt response and fast service!

We were going to rent a stump grinder and do it ourselves, but this tree stump was huge and located in a tight space. It was less than 3 feet from the house, just inside the gate/fence, on a hill, less than 3 feet from the shed behind the house and last but not least it was over the gas line for the house. After doing the math on what we'd have to spend to do it ourselves, I started to call around to see what it would cost. When I talked with Stump Removal only, I told him I would send him some pictures if that would save him a trip out. He said it would help. Within an hour or so of sending the pictures, he called and said it would be $325 for them to remove the stump but that the price was not firm until he actually saw it in person. As soon as he got to the house he called and apologized, he had underestimated. After further discussion with a price of $450 (2 men, 2-3 hours), I told him to go ahead. When I got home 4 hours later, they were still working on it. So, 5 hours and 2 men later, they cleaned up everything and I paid them. I got a fantastic deal. The only way they had been able to get into the tight space was with an articulating arm on the stump grinder, something I couldn't have rented. If I had rented one, it probably would have rolled down the hill. Two very personable guys, professionally handled and a great job. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I chopped down a holly bush that was overgrowing the area where it was planted. It was messy and dated the house so it was time for it to go. The remaining stump had deep roots and was more of a task than I was willing or equipped to take on. I contacted several tree service providers on Sunday, April 22 and got a response from Frank DeBaldo the next day. I briefly described the scope of the problem and Frank said he would go by my house to take a look. Frank was there when i pulled up and despite the rain and cool weather wentto work as soon as we agreed upon a price. In a short time he had removed the stump and roots and had cleaned up and replaced the soil. All by himself. It was money well spent because it saved me time and effort. I would definitely hire him again.

We had a small stump from a Magnolia tree in our front yard that we needed to have removed. The stump was about one foot from the front of the house. After a bit of phone tag, Frank and I spoke and set a date for him to come out to our house. He came to our house prepared to complete the job and I told him if his price was within our budget we would be ready. He gave me an estimate of when he would be here, he arrived within that estimate and we discussed the job. Frank was very thorough in discussing the details and very happy to answer any questions I might have. Once he gave me a price and I agreed, he began the work. He was very neat and precise and did a good job of cleaning up the work area. He definitely seems to be very knowledgable in the field of trees and stump removal.
Description of Work: Frank used a chain saw to level off a stump of a Magnolia tree we had in our front yard. Then he screened the area around the stump and brought his stump grinder up to the base of the stump. He then ground up the stump and cleaned up the work area.

I called Frank Sunday and left him a message to call me Monday morning about a stump I needed removed. Sure enough 10a.m. on Monday he called asking me to describe what I had. After a conversation telling me how long he's been in the business he asked if he could come look at the stump that day. He showed up at my home around 1:30p.m. and called me at work to give me a price to do it that day. He had dug around my stump chopping roots as he went and by 6p.m. he was cleaning up. He was working till that stump was gone. He cleaned up nicely and hauled everything away. Very nice, very professional and the best money i've ever spent on a job for me!

Working with Frank was fantastic from start to finish. He is incredibly personable and professional. He took care of contacting the utility company to have the lines marked and the day after that was completed he was at my house to remove 4 stumps. I expected there to be debris left at the site but each location was completely clear and perfect looking! I wish more people were as enjoyable as Frank to work with!

When we called Frank DeBaldo to ask him to give us an estimate for removing 3 stumps from our yard in Annapolis, he said he would go by and look in the next couple of days and he did exactly that. Within 4 days we had an estimate and within one week the job was done--and he even removed another stump in the yard for no extra cost. He did a thorough job and cleaned up.He was very pleasant to deal with--we would use him again. We had contacted 2 tree removal companies before Mr. DeBaldo and had not heard back from them.

He is the only person I contacted who actually contacted the utility companies to determine where the gas line was, a clear sign of his attention to detail. He ground both stumps and removed two metal posts that were hidden in the stumps. Because I wasn't home when he did the work, he called me later that day to discuss the work to make sure I was happy; I was. I wouldm recommend Frank to my friends and neighbors.

I contacted the company to remove/grind the stump from a 10-yr. old ornamental tree along my driveway that was toppled by Hurricane Irene. Given that I needed to plant another tree in the same spot, additional work was needed to grind more deeply than usual, clean out the wood chips and debris, and back-fill the hole with dirt. I needed all of this done quickly in order to remain on the tree nursery's schedule for planting. Frank quickly called in Miss Utility to mark the site and came by a day after the marks were laid. Although it was pouring down rain, he got the job done in a couple of hours. He definitely earned his money that day! He is serious about his specialty, and he will tell you just how serious he is when you talk to him. He really helped me out in a pinch with a reasonable price, given my circumstances. I will consider him in the future as a no-nonsense stump grinder!
