Frank's work was excellent. He and his son did an outstanding job removing an old underground stump from our backyard. The ground around the stump was sinking and some of the stump was beginning to come above ground, creating a hazard. I considered doing the work myself and even priced the rental of a grinder from Home Depot. Thank goodness I did not go that route. The work was much more intensive than I had anticipated and I don't believe I could have done the job myself. Frank and his son worked on the stump for over 3 hours with various tools, including a large grinder, a saws-all, picks, and an axe. Much of the work was by hand, digging and cutting various pieces out. The work was very hard and they were able to remove a substantial stump and root system. Throughout the job they were professional, transparent, on-task, and easy to work with. I wish all the service providers out there could be as good as these guys! Well done, Frank, thank you for such a well done job. It was a pleasure working with you.

Frank was thorough. Dug a test hole to make sure that no utility lines would be compromised. Completed the work quickly and thoroughly. It appeared that the job was a good deal more complicated than anticipated but the work was completed at the price promised.

We have called Frank out a few times since living at our present home to do stump and root removal. He will be one guy you'll want to put in your Rolodex when future stump/root work is needed! He knows his field, is a great communicator, and won't proceed with a job without running things with Miss Utility, which is a win-win for the homeowner and himself/business. After setting up the appointment, Frank did as I asked by giving me friendly reminder calls a day in advance of reporting to the job site -- how about that for service! He reported on time, gave a fair total, performed the work including tiding up, reported back full-circled after the work had been done, and showed me pictures of the roots he had worked on. Frank was on time, gave me an estimate and did the job as promised (16+ stumps!!) He found a couple extra stumps, but didn't increase his price. I didn't get other estimates, so don't know how his price compares.

A couple years ago, we started noticing an odor of natural gas near the curb of our property, right where a mature, 20-foot high maple tree stood. Though we called Washington Gas, they couldn't find the cause of the odor - so they did nothing further. Which was a mistake, as you'll soon read. Eventually the tree died, and this past Spring it was cut down by Montgomery County (since it was on their right-of-way). But the County would not grind the stump for another two to three years. I thought about grinding it down myself, and even had Miss Utility come out to mark the lines, but soon realized that this was a job for a professional. That's how I found Frank DeBaldo on Angie's List. Frank came out to my property on a Thursday afternoon. Miss Utility had marked the gas line passing under one of the roots, but it was 33" below the surface, so Frank's grinder shouldn't come close to hitting it. Nevertheless, Frank was extremely cautious, and left the machine on the truck while he probed and dug around the stump with a mattock, just to make sure that it was safe to grind. And it wasn't, because Miss Utility had missed a small gas feeder line that ran directly under the stump to a long-gone lamppost. Unhappily, Frank's mattock found it and punctured it, resulting in a loud hissing noise as natural gas came streaming out of the small pipe. He immediately stopped working, and I ran inside to call Washington Gas. A gas company technician arrived in just a few minutes, and had to shut off the entire gas service to my house at the street. Soon thereafter a construction crew arrived, but when they saw that they needed to excavate under the stump, they asked Frank to go ahead and grind it down for them. So Frank brought his grinder off the truck and began setting up. He was very careful to place three-foot-high plywood barriers around the stump, to prevent debris from being flung everywhere. Then he started to work. Because stump was so large, it took quite a while to get it ground down. Dusk came, then sundown, but Frank just attached a big light to the top of his rig and kept on grinding. It was an impressive spectacle to see thousands of wood chips flying under the light. After all that work, Washington Gas decided they didn't want to fix the existing line, and would just run a new gas line into my house from the main line 10 feet away. Which is what they should have done originally, back when we first started smelling gas. Frank DeBaldo is a master of his craft. He has seen it all in his 30+ years of stump grinding, and there is no job that is beyond his skills. Frank enjoys talking about his work, and I enjoyed listening to his stories about past jobs. And I'm confident that he will never forget that stump over the gas line on Bucknell Drive.

We were extremely satisfied with the company. This is a small business and the owner takes great pride in his work. This alone means a lot to us as homeowners and consumers. As a small business there will be times when they are pretty busy, so I advise you to be patient as needed because the service is well worth the wait. And be prepared to make a decision the day the consultation is done - time is money for everyone - especially a small company! Be respectful of that. Larger companies may be able to have more flexibility but I seriously doubt that you will get the same level of care in your project. The company hit all of the marks for us - COMPETENT, THOROUGH, professional, knowledgeable and fair. We had about 5 or 6 small to medium stumps to be removed. The job was efficient and very well done. The space is now cleared and ready for the next step in our plans. We would absolutely use this company again!

Frank did an awesome job removing our tree stumps and surrounding roots as promised. We have a good size hill in our backyard with three very large tree stumps that needed to be removed. We needed them removed at least 3" below grade and all ground roots as well. Last year, I hired two different companies to try and come in and do the same job, but the others couldn't do the job as promised. The first stump remover rolled his machine down our hill and never came back to finish the job. The second stump remover promised to remove all of the stump, ground roots and debris. He didn't complete the job and never returned our calls. Luckily, we found Frank and we finally have a backyard ready for some grass! Frank took great pride in his job and did everything he promised and more. He called in miss utility to make sure they wouldn't hit any lines- since they actually planned to dig down deep enough to do the job correctly! He also took the time to dig down, follow the roots and agree upon everything that needed to be taken out. After two other contractors failed, I was very happy to have Frank do the work, since he really knew what he was doing. He and his son took the time to do it right, didn't have to removed or damage any of our fence or surrounding plants. He was a pleasure to work with and I would hire him again and again! He was a very hard worker, I never even saw him take a break and I know that the work was very challenging! I know that our hill and stumps posed a challenge, but he was the only one who could handle it and get it done in half a day!

Arrived as promised on the date arranged. Removed very large oak tree stump (over 3 feet in diameter) with a minimum of disturbance to the surrounding landscape. Except for the removal of the stump, you would not have known he had been here. I am very pleased with the job and his professionalism and will certainly use him again in the future.

Frank came out to the property to assess the job and give us an estimate. The three stumps were in rough shape as the property's previous owner was not able to tend to her yard for some time. One of the stumps was also on a slope. His price was very fair for the work we needed done. One of the things I appreciated most about the whole experience was that they never tried to over-sell us on services. Everything was very straightforward and honest. We just needed the stumps dealt with not a complex, multi step, expensive arrangement like some other vendors tried to sell us. Frank's honesty is somewhat rare even among Angie's List vendors (I'm sorry to say). The work was completed on time as promised and on budget. We could not be happier with the results. This company is one of the good and honest ones. Frank sold me what I needed for the right price and never tried to up-sell me. These are very valuable qualities to find when sorting through the haze of reviews on Angie's List. I am so happy to have been connected with them. Further down the road we will need to have more stumps removed once we address the fence. We will definitely use Frank and his company again.

.Frank arrived on time and ready to work. I showed him the stumps and he asked that I not watch around the stumps. When I looked out of the window I saw why. He built a wall using three sheets of plywood that stopped any shavings from leaving the area. He went to work and wasted no time. He removed the stumps and used a rake when he was finished to make sure the area was clean and neat. I was very satisfied with the work. I highly recommend him. He was very careful not to make ruts on the ground with his equipment. Neat, clean, fast and friendly. What else could you want?

The stumps were removed manually since they were unable to get their automated stump grinder into my backyard due to the terrain. The stumps were removed and the area cleaned. STUMP REMOVAL ONLY was able to give me an estimate immediate after reviewing the job. Work was completed the same day as the estimate.

Wow! What an excellent job. He is not cheap, but the stump guy knows what he is doing. After several phone conversations, he offered to work on a Sunday. He presented what the work would entail, told me what he would do and offered a quote. Honestly, it was more than twice what another firm had quoted, but I went with Stump Removal Only. The reason? He mentioned all the things that I would have to make sure that the other company did. I am not one to micro manage a professional. I have neither the time or desire to do so. He took care to protect the surrounding vehicles and fencing. He used a pick axe, chainsaw and stump grinder. He cleaned up the yard, sidewalk and street area and hauled the debri away. He worked until after sunset. The deep stump is gone, the roots are gone. The ground was completely ready to be sodded. Great Job.

The price is higher than I like, but they are experts in having stumps removed. My experience with them was good.

The two-man crew (owner and son) removed the two stumps in a 1/2 days work. They had called to have the utilities marked and were able to carefully work around the gas line as it was near both stumps. My fromt yard is about 3 feet above the sidewalk and they were able to back up their pickup over the sidewalk to unload the large, wheeled stump-removal machine. They performed excellent work and were very responsive over the phone.

Found Frank's company on Angie's List. I left him a voice mail and he returned my call promptly explaining his methods for onsite estimates the same day he does the work. He also contacted the utilities to check for under ground lines before he arrived. He was very flexible with his schedule and came on the weekend at the scheduled time. He reviewed the site and we agreed on the amount of removal/price that should be done to not hurt other nearby trees and root systems. He also setup barriers to protect the neighbor's property from debris. I would hire Frank again. He made the process very easy. One thing to note when working with Frank though is that he does the work immediately after doing the site estimate, so you should get his proof of insurance and any other estimates you might want to get for the work before scheduling Frank to come out.

True to their company name, Frank get's the job done. He and his son were a 2 man team on our job. Our maple tree stump was several years old, HUGE, and rock hard at the base but rotting on the top. Not to mention the previous owners built a deck around the stump, making extraction difficult. Price very comparable with traditional tree services, with quality of overall work superior. Frank returned my phone call same day, and due to the difficult description of our job, we provided him with email photos of our yard, deck, and the stump so that he could determine if his grinder equipment would get into our backyard. He wanted to be certain that if he arrived at our house, he would be able to do the job, and not waste our time. We setup a time to meet that worked with my schedule within a few days of our initial contact. Just as prior commenters mentioned, Frank comes to your site, provides an estimate, and gets to work immediately if you accept his proposal. He extracted our stump with no damage to our deck, which will allow us to save money overall by patching up our deck and not replacing it completely. I would highly recommend their services. No hidden costs. Honest work. Would do business with anytime.

I was very pleased with the service. Frank showed up on time, went over how the operation was going to be performed, and gave me the quote for how much it would cost. Once I agreed to the number, Frank and his son got to work immediately and were finished in a little under an hour and a half. Overall I was very pleased with the service and my backyard is now ready for some grass!

I contacted A Stump Removal Company after having several companies no-bid the job. The stumps were on a steep, ivy covered slope and access was limited. When I contacted them, Frank was not sure if his grinder would be able to get to the stumps, but that he was sure he could do it. When he arrived, he determined that he could not get his stump grinder to the stumps, but said he would use his chainsaw, and gave a very fair price. He spent the good part of a very cold afternoon working on it and because of the difficulty had to return a second day to finish the job. They cleaned up the job site upon completion, cut the wood to fireplace size, moved the wood to our wood pile, and even drilled a number of holes in the remaining stump (left flush with the ground) to aid in decomposing and to provide a foothold for the surrounding ground cover. I would highly recommend him for stump removal.

Frank provided excellent service from beginning to end. His estimate was resonable, the work was done in a timely manner, his attention to detail in protecting adjacent areas was unexpected but, most appreciated given the wooded surroundings. I had over 10 stumps of varying size , from those of 90 foot poplar trees to 30 foot pines, all work completed to above my expectations. during three seperate visits. He was promt in retuning my phone calls and prompt with arriving to the job site.

He was very friendly and efficient and did a good job for a fair price. He comes there and gives you his quote and it's kind of a take it or leave it deal and he doesn't really necessarily give you the option of having other people give an estimate. He does it or he doesn't do it, but he's not going to come back around again.

Frank was very good about calling me several times (as I was hard to reach). He managed to track me down though, and scheduled a time to come look at the stump. When he arrived he looked it over thoroughly and explained everything he would do very clearly. Then he quoted me a price, and when we agreed, he got straight to work. He did the whole job in one trip, and left the area cleaner than he found it. He was fast, friendly, and provided high-quality work. I would highly recommend him for stump removal.

Frank returned my call promptly, and came the next day to give an estimate and do the work. He was professional, prompt and left our yard clean. Frank also has landscape experience, and gave me good advice about re-planting in the area where the stump was removed.

The work was completed as promised in a very professional manner. Though there were lower estimates, this company was more thorough and did the necessary utility checks before preceding with the project. There was a gas line notated that had to be contended with. There have been no problems with the job since completed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
