Used them twice within two weeks. Once to replace plywood subflooring and the second to replace rotted wood behind the gutter and do some brick repair work on the chimney. Work was scheduled immediately. Both times the costs were as estimated and the handyman (Trey) was very prompt and professional. Had used then years before and will use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced plywood sub flooring and sealed it against moisture. Replaced rotten wood behind gutter and pointed bricks on chimney.

My half bath had developed a serious mold problem on one wall - a problem no one could give me an answer to. I called Ed and he had someone out to my place within days (might have been sooner but my work schedule is difficult). John arrived about 10 minutes early and was able to diagnose the problem in about 20 minutes. He discussed options with me about fixing the problem and helped me decided the best and least expensive option for me. I never felt taken advantage of and it was clear John was very capable and knew what he was doing. The final result is wonderful and it looks like the problem is solved. I'll definitely use them again for future repairs/remodels.

Just fine. the packing of the newly installed valve needed tightening once a hose w/ nozzle was attached due to back pressure. Called handyman matters and they offered help over the phone and ensured me they would send someone back if the phone help did not solve the issue. They solved it over the phone quickly and were exteremely helpful. They even called back to follow up to see if someone needed to return even though I said the problem was fixed. Great customer service.

They didn't show up the day they said they would. My husband took the day off from work to stay home and wait for them. My husband finally got in touch with him and he said they would come on Monday. He didn't seem to concerned about wasting my husbands time and said that he didn't need to be there when he worked. We are not to impressed.

The handyman showed up on time and performed a variety of repairs on our sidewalk, front door, and screen door. Other individuals quoted very high prices, but the handyman from Handyman Matters was able to figure out some very clever ways to use the materials that we already had and saved us significant money. I highly recommend them.

OUTSTANDING! Keith created and installed a custom solution to our noise problem. Never used Angie's list until we relocated to an area we did not know anyone! We are very happy with the finished product. Looks great! The price was a little higher than we budgeted because we added a few things but we were pleased with the work done. The contractor was very frinedly and easy to work with. Clean up was done well.

The worker who came was pre-occupied. I have to keep pointing out items he missed. Lacks attentiveness and focus, but he was very nice. Also, he did not clean up the sink he used to mix the spackle. There were a couple of issues on arranging a follow-up appointment. First time was a miscommunication (owner scheduled a specific time when he did not get confirmation from me). Subsequently tried to re-arrange other date but I kept getting bumped off. Will not use this company again.

I contact Handyman Matters via the Angie's List contact feature. I got a call from the company the following morning. We set an appointment for that Friday for the work to be done and was given a ball-park estimate over the phone. Later that day, the actual team that does the work called me and said they are running ahead of schedule and can come out the next day if I wanted, two days ahead of schedule. I accepted. The work team called me when they showed up, firmed up the estimate, and got my approval to start work. They called later that same day letting me know the work was done and right on estimate! I went up to the house the following day and found the work was complete, done right, and everything nice and clean. This company works really well for us, as this is not our primary home and we cant be up there very often to supervise work. I was able to give them my credit card number and they did not need me up there to sign anything (no taking off work, no lost pay). They even used the card number to purchase the materials they needed for our job (paint and a fence board). I like that they operate on an hourly rate, 15 minute segments after 1st hour. The end results leads to actual total being closer to estimate than methods used by others. We are 100% happy with this transaction and are making a list of the things we would like done by Handyman Matters.

Keith was prompt, curteous and professional. He helped evaluate the situation and develop a plan to fix it that we both agreed with. He had good time management and he had some professional products that made the job go faster. I took a few points off for the quality of the work itself because the surface of the ceiling did not end up flat - it had sort of an inverted hump in it. [I think his wide blade which he used to spread the goop didn't stay straight.] It is not so bad that we can't live with it because hardly anybody could notice it in this location unless you climbed a ladder. I finished the job with sanding, priming and painting which was OK with me (that was part of our plan) . My wife is happy so I am too.

Keith did a fantastic job. The caulking was done perfectly. The storm door completely meets the door frame, and there is no longer a perceptible draft. Keith also took the time to provide me with a careful estimate of the grouting job and his ideas to replace the towel bar that was missing. He even wrote the measurements down in case he wasn't the person the company sent for installation. He was unable to complete the kitchen cabinet repair due to a part that he needed to locate and purchase. He made note of the part, so it would be available on the follow-up visit for the grouting job.
Description of Work: First, I had to have a bathtub and kitchen sink recaulked. Second, I had a storm door fixed due to an ineffective seal with the frame. Third, I had to get a kitchen cabinet glass frame reseated. Last, I wanted an estimate to regrout an upstairs bath.

The scheduling office made me aware that there would be a minimum charge and our job wouldn't take very long at all, so they encouraged me to find something else for their guy to do! It was insurance work, and all I had at the time. They came out as scheduled and took care of the shutter-- looks just as it should. The office called later to make sure all went well. That was a nice touch. Only thing I would have liked better would have been for Handyman Matters to order the shutter for me. I had to get it and have it on hand for their guy to install.
Description of Work: Had one of the handymen out to replace a broken shutter on our 2nd floor.

I hired Handyman Matters to fix a number of small carpentry-related issues. The immediate problem was an old wood plank staircase leading down to my dirt cellar - one of the plank supports had come loose and the staircase was dangerous. In addition, there was a warped bit of floor molding that needed remounting, and in my unfinished attic a number of floorboards had been removed when the central heating was installed and needed to be replaces with something more than the 1/4 plywood laid loose on the floor, so that I could use the attic for storage and install a vent fan at some later date. There were also some trim pieces missing from an old staircase in the house that I wanted to get replaced, and I've been considering doing a larger-scale renovation on that staircase since I bought the house. So I called and talked to Ed to schedule the initial consult. He described the fees and labor rates, and also offered a couple of options for buying materials to keep costs low, and we scheduled the consult. Trey arrived on time to assess the work needed. I told him my priorities for the various jobs and we discussed the house staircase at length. I was happy with the labor costs and materials estimate, so we scheduled the work to be done as two jobs - one for the cellar staircase, floor molding and attic floor, and a second for a renovation of the upper house staircase. The first part of the work has now been completed and I couldn't be happier. Trey is a workman who thinks long-term. He didn't just fix the immediate problem on the cellar stairs, he also checked every plank to make sure nothing else was working loose, and added a few nails as needed to avoid future problems. As he was laying boards in the attic he took care to make sure the seams between replacement and original boards did not become trip hazards, as we had discussed. But as he saw he was laying boards over wiring, he also decided to secure the boards with screws rather than nails, so that if an electrician someday needs to get to the wiring, it will be easy to remove and replace the boards without damaging anything. This is exactly the sort of conscientiousness and long-term thinking that I wish I could find in every service and maintenance person I work with. The staircase renovation is scheduled to start next week. We'll be pulling up carpet and we're not quite sure what we'll find underneath, but I am confident that Trey will listen to my concerns and my preferences, and recommend the best solutions for whatever we find. I'm looking forward to it.

Overall, a very positive experience. We called for an on-site estimate. We were able to have a technician come out within a few days at a time convenient to us. We got great advice that we were more than happy to pay for. We wil be using their services again.
Description of Work: We really appreciated the information we got when the technician came out for an estimate. He gave us an estimate for the services, but also explained how we could fix the problem ourselves. This time we chose that option, but we will call them again then next time we have a question.

I contacted Hanyman Matters to do some work in my home that was well over due. Trey, the worker, was approximately 15 minutes early and ready to work. After a walk through of the outside and the inside of my home, he observed that my roof cap was loose and in need of repair (My husband and I was working on getting it repair by a roofer) and offered to make the repair. I explained my financial circumstances and how many hours I can afford, which he accommodated. Trey also reccommended future home repairs. Overall I was very pleased with the standard of work performed.

Fantastic. James was the person sent out to the job. He was very careful to keep down the mess and clean up without making a mess.
Description of Work: I had an open ceiling in a 1st floor 1/2 bath due to plumbing work. The scope of the work I needed completed was to replace the drywall on the ceiling, tape and plaster the joints and some other holes made by the plumber and sand. Then I needed the ceiling to be painted on a return trip. I painted the walls myself.

James was punctual and worked well with a minimum of direction once the problems were explained to him.
Description of Work: James repaired two patio areas by replacing rotting wooden dividers between exposed aggregate concrete pads. James replaced faulty wiring connecting four low voltage outdoor lighting fixtures. He repaired or replaced wooden shade-boards above a loggia over the main entrance area. He also repaired and waterproofed part of an outdoor glass block window ledge that had water damage and replaced weather stripping on two thirty-year-old sliding glass doors.

The drywall in ceiling had to be done 3 times, the kitchen ceiling had to be painted twice and there are still spots showing through. Since I paid by the hour, it would have been cheaper to hire a professional painter to do both the kitchen and foyer. The foyer also needs to be redone as there are streaks and spots where the ladder leaned on the wall. The hanyman was very nice and didn't waste any time doing the jobs, but the fact that they had to be redone cost about $500 more than the original estimate.

Another great job by Handyman Matters. Mary is a joy to speak with from the first contact. I was able to schedule the work on a day convenient to me. I had two ceiling fans and electric installed as well as a new sump pump. I felt for Keith the contractor since he would be in the attic on a day when the temp was to hit 100 degrees. As always, the job was completed to perfection. No mess to cleanup afterwards. Just like no one had been in my home at all.....seamless. Pricing was fair and peace of mind knowing I would receive the same great service and results from beginning to end. I refer friends and family to Ed Salmon and Handyman Matters in Frederick. And their service area in NOT confined to Frederick only. What more can I say... I'm a happy lifetime customer :o)

Chad, the guy they sent, did a good job. It's not his work that I had an issue with. In my original call I also asked for work on 2 faucet leaks in addition to the other tasks. I was told they'd have someone come right out to fix the problems. When Chad arrived he told me that he was not certified to do plumbing and I'd have to make another appointment with another workman for that. I understand that but would have appreciated it if they'd told me that up front, and then I could have decided whether to wait to get it all done in one day when both guys were available. As it was, Chad had to return another day to finish what he'd started and by then I'd already taken off 2 days to be home for the work. They did offer the option to leave them once I'd let them in but I don't feel comfortable doing that with anyone. I did not follow up with them for a 3rd visit to fix the faucet leaks.

It went great. They are professional and really willing to help. Couldn't have been better.
Description of Work: We hired Handyman Matters for several jobs. They fixed drywall under the sink in our old house, patched holes in the walls left by electrician, and best of all, updated our deck in our new house. The deck is great and the price was fair. Matt worked really hard and really paid attention to the details. The price actually came in under the estimate. Their office staff was incredibly helpful and patient with all of the scheduling and the various locations. We will hire them again when we need handyman services for sure!
