Now, we are back where we started! With no air! I should have said no to the service because the tech did not guarantee the freon--that should have been indicative that it wasn't going to work. It feels like we just handed them $450 without receiving anything in return. In my opinion, he should have told us that there was no certainty that the freon was going to work at all so I could have made a more informed decision. Also, I wanted to note that this office has the WORST customer service. I say this because I asked Patrick on the initial visit to let me know ALL of his findings in writing and that did not occur. He just wrote on the ticket that he found a leak. All of the additional information he provided wasn't even noted on the ticket/invoice. Two days later, my husband called the office to have them send a tech to give an estimate on A/C units so they sent Patrick again this week. Again, he gave my husband a verbal description of what he found wrong with our A/C unit. My husband asked him to provide the description in writing and he stated he would via email. Again, we didn't receive anything. Patrick only gave ONE estimate upon his return to our home and stated the office would send the others. That visit was a waste especially because we were willing to order the A/C unit at that moment. And so, the waiting began. To date, we haven't received anything from this company via email. I called the office yesterday (5/24/13) and spoke to the secretary who is/was the most difficult person to explain our problem to. She acted as though she could not comprehend a word I was saying to her which was entirely frustrating to me, the customer. All I am asking from this company is to give me the straight forward, honest approach and quote time. If you state that you are going to provide me with information about my defecticve unit--PROVIDE IT TO ME. If I ask for something as simple as a few estimates---PROVIDE IT TO ME. At one point during the conversation the secretary put the phone down on her desk so that she could ignore my request. She wasn't compassionate or caring as a front line person. She made it quite clear that this company doesn't NEED my business. When I asked to speak to a manager, she told me that I would have to speak to Patrick, the technician. I had to ask her 5 times for a managers name before she would provide it. Then she said the manager would side with her anyways and talking to her would be a waste of my time. I told her I would take that chance. The secretary is I & I. Ineffective and inefficient. She didn't even make an attempt to contact the HVAC tech, Patrick, to determine what he told us. In my opinion, any company that can not provide details of any problems/issues that are found, in writing to the customer, do not completely stand by the quality of service/work that they provide. I will definately pass the word on to my friends via facebook, etc to not use this company. Give your money to a company that thrives to make certain ALL of the customers are satisfied. It was a complete waste of my time, patience and energy. You have been forewarned!
Description of Work: Upstairs A/C unit was not blowing cold air. Patrick, HVAC technician, told me and my brother that the A/C unit had a slow leak that has been in existence for a long time and the pan had rusted out. He told us the unit was completely out of freon. He said he could not repair the leak but could fill it with freon until we determined when it would be feasible to purchase another A/C unit. He filled the unit with freon and it only cooled the house for 1 day.

In response to your dissatisfaction with the service that our technician Patrick provided you on 5/17/13 let me begin with an apology. It is our goal to satisfy each and every customer within our ability and within reason. Patrick came out to your house and diagnosed the system as being out of refrigerant (freon). This is the only problem he found with the system. He did note that there was rust on the emergency drain pan due to either the coil drain pan over flowing previously or due to the coil previously freezing up. Patrick performed a leak test (normally $150.00 additional charge) at no additional charge and found that the indoor coil located in the attic of the house had a refrigerant leak. After conversing with [member name removed], Patrick was advised to add freon to the system. Since freon is a gas and not a part there is no warranty. There is also no possible way to determine the length in which freon would last in the system, since it has a leak. Patrick returned two days later to provide an estimate on replacing the heat pump system. Again, Patrick gave the information to [member name removed]. The secretary emailed all three proposals to [member name removed]. When [member name removed] called our office it appeared as though he had in fact received the proposals in question since the secretary went over the information with him and answered his questions. The secratary later spoke with you and offered to have Patrick call to discuss and answer any additional questions, and offered to have the owner call you on Tuesday when she returned to the office. You told the secretary that you would call back. Again I appologize for your dissatisfaction with the service. If there is anything further we can do for you please feel free to contact me directly. The oil burner was opened up, and the plugging material removed. The nozzle and oil filter were replaced. All the soot was removed and the burner was put back together. Everything was cleaned up. I have high confidence in this company

The service person did a diagnostic test on the system, checked the furnace and cleaned the system before leaving. Also, looked at the air conditioning sytem in the back of the house. Was very informative regarding how to save energy and installing a better operating system. The current system is about 40 years old.
Description of Work: Furnace was not working earlier in the week; but service person found nothing wrong. Service person cleaned the system and informed me of other potential problems. He would later send an estimate for replacing air conditioning system.

The receptionist was helpful in explaining the limits of a "check up" as opposed to a "tune-up." To start, I opted for the check up. I was given a choice of the 4 hour morning window or 4 hour afternoon window. I chose the 12-4pm window. Patrick showed up at 3pm and introduced himself. He checked the operation of the furnace. I have an oil burning furnace so very few companies will service these. He was knowledgable about the model which also runs with a heat pump. Since I have only used gas or electric baseboard heat in the past, I never felt I was being taken advantage of because of my unfamiliarity with this type of heating unit. Patrick was always professional and never tried to talk above me or down to me. He explained that the heat pump was out of freon and may have a leak since he found two kinks in the line. I was given a low and high figure for a repair depending on whether the unit only required freon or whether it would also require the lines replace, which he recommended. I was very pleased with the service provided and will use this company again.

The service technician checked the thermostate and then went in the furnace room to clean and check the furnace for proper working condition. Came back and discussed what he cleaned and that it was documented on the service invoice. All ok. The visit was great and no repairs were needed.
Description of Work: Check and clean furnace for winter. Signed up for a 1 year maintenance schedule, which will take care of my air conditioning check and clean in the spring.

Everything went very well with the technician arriving within time frame given, was immediately able to figure out the problem and fix it. Left everything in good condition, cleaned up behind himself.

Called prior to arrival for scheduled appointment. Upon arrival, conducted himself (Gerald) in a very professional manner. Explained everything he was doing and made several suggestions with regard to care of the heating systems, placement of CO detectors, and items to keep an eye on. Was very thorough and completed the job promptly. Was very happy with the HVAC service provided by Gerald, and will certainly use D**** in the future. Thank You Gerald.

Description of Work: The main gas line into the house was leaking and the emergency Washington Gas workcrew did respond immediately and fix the leak. When relighting the furnace pilot, we were told our furnace needed service. I called Dick's Heating as they are on Angie's list. They were prompt, courteous and checked the heater thoroughly and advised the heater was fine. The serviceman did clean the gas vents and checked the heater once he turned the heat back on. He was thorough and polite

I had made an appointment with Dick's for the upcoming Thursday ( 10/11/12) to do seasonal maintenance on my gas furnace. It turned cold early so I turned on the furnace on Monday (10/08/12). The furnace turned on but shut down without turning on the blower motor. I called Dick's and they sent a repair person (Patrick) that day. He diagnosed the problem and repaired the furnace. Both the companies response and Patrick's work were outstanding.

Called and got same day appointment. A/C was not blowing cold air. I was told I needed to replace a part, I was low on freon and I had a leak in my system. He said he added two pounds of freon. My air blew cold for two days and I was right back where I started. I honestly don't believe he put two pounds in.

The $69.00 Pre-Season maintenance coupon is honored during the pre-season months for the heating and cooling seasons. Such as September through the end of October for heating and April through the end of May for the cooling systems. If you are having a problem with your system then there a diagnostic fee of $90.00 plus repair. Sorry you were not happy with the response you received from our office.

Late last year water was coming out of the overflow pipe from my upstairs AC unit. I wasn't an Angie member so I called a company advertising on the local TV station. They sent a technician whose did some repairs but did not correct the problem because water was still come from the overflow pipe that evening. They sent another tech out the next day who?s said that the problem was fixed but that there was residual water in the system would eventually drain out or evaporate. Short time there after air conditioning season was over so I didn't pay much attention to it. I learned later that the leaking only occurred when the AC was running. To my dismay the system was leaking again at the start of this year's AC season. I waited awhile before getting concern based on advice from the tech about residual water remaining in the system. After several days and the appearance that the leaking was getting worse, I call the company that did the original repair. They were reluctant to coming out free of charge because it was over 30 days. They did offer to waive the standard come-out fee if they determined the current issue was related to the previous. By that time, I had joined Angie's list and decided to forgo the previous company for Dick's. Dick's technician was outstanding. He determined the problem cause immediately upon first glance at the system. I wished that I had known about Dick's before getting the other company

Overall I was not pleased with the service. I was informed by another company that there are universal parts that could be used. I think very little effort was made to completely service my fireplace.
Description of Work: Called Dick's to service/repair an old-modeled gas fireplace. The pilot light was out...he was able to light the pilot but it did not stay on. He tinkered around with the fireplace for about 45 minutes, but in the end he did not repair it. The repairman (Pat) indicated that he had not heard of the company that manufactured the fireplace. He said that he would return to the office to research the parts and contact me with the results. He did not contact me the next day (Fri)...so I contacted the company on Mon 1/30/2012, Pat was not available but did call me later. He said that they could not find the parts on the internet. I don't believe any work was done to locate the appropriate part. He indicated that I should contact a company that handled only gas fireplaces.

I called Dick's and they answered the phone promptly and were very polite. They were able to schedule me quickly. I received the morning window for arrival per my request. I received a call from their scheduler about 30 minutes prior to the technician arriving, which was a nice courtesy. They were prompt and arrived right in the middle of the schedule window. The technician was professional and to the point. He also offered some advice on some questions I had about the existing electronic air filter and humidifier. I asked for the angie's list coupon pre-season special so the pricing was very good. I would recommend trying to get any preventative maintenace or other issues done before the peak season as the price will probably double from my experience in general as demand will increase sharply in the winter time, and consequently in the summer as well. I have had some less than ideal hvac contractors in the past on my previous home and in contrast my impression of Dick's is that they are professional and no nonsense. I will be using them in the future. Overall: recommended.
Description of Work: called Dick's HVAC for an annual preventative maintenance. I asked for the pre-season angie's list coupon special, for what looks to be about 50% off. I wanted my heat pump checked out an any preventative items corrected, and any issues identified.

I was told that everything was great except for the capacitor the first time someone came, but the second guy said that sometimes they just don’t tighten up the bolts enough. I don’t know if that happened or if it was just a coincidence. Also, I asked if they would check my roof fan because it wasn’t working after I had the roof replaced. When he came out, he acted like he didn’t want to do it and said he didn’t have a good ladder. I don’t know if I’ll use them again. I bought a service contract when they were out the first time so I got a discount the second time they came out. The guys were really nice although the first guy that came out jerry-rigged a part because he didn’t have the part in his truck. They charge by the job rather than by the hour which I think is really good. They were here the same day I called and the technicians always call about ten minutes before they are here.
Description of Work: Dicks Air Conditioning & Heating came out because a capacitor in the heating wasn’t working. They came out again not long after because I needed Freon in my AC.

Originally, I called to see about having the 23 year old unit replaced, but Patrick suggested I try repair as a way to save money. He identified the problem asap, had all parts on his truck. I called the company around 9am, Patrick came around 11:15, my air was up and singing by 1:15pm. I received discount from Angie's List.

After a couple of months of getting no traction with my home warranty company in repairing my a/c-heat pump, I contacted Dick's A/C & Heating to see about repairing the unit. I was thoroughly surprised to have Gerald at my door step the very same day only a couple of hours after I called. It took him no time flat to assess the unit and explain to me the gravity of the situation. He walked through in layman terms and also advised me to contact a couple of manufacturers of a/c units (e.g., Trane, Carrier) so that I would not just take his word. Bless his heart he did not even charge me the fee for coming out. He told me in no uncertain terms this was more than a worst case scenario. Moreover, Linda worked with Gerald to draft a letter containing their assessment and the best way to address the issue and mailed it to me within a couple of days. Needless to say I went back to my home warranty armed with the letter and information garnered from my conversations with Trane & Carrier. The folks at Dick's have aided me without charge and without knowing whether or not they will get any business from me. Dick's A/C & Heating is the sort of business that others should strive to emulate. No doubt I will be using their services in the future and will recommend them to people I know.

He was wonderful. He was prompt, he called before he arrived, he figured out what was wrong quickly, and the rates were reasonable. The service technician was very friendly and professional. They had to schedule a service call to come back once the parts came in, but that was only a few days later. Everything has been working fine since he was here. They did everything I could have asked for.

I called Dick's because my AC unit was leaking and the air temperature was too warm. They quoted me the lowest price for a service call, so I went with them. I was very pleased with the service. The technician showed up on time, gave me a complete and thorough explanation of the problem, explained exactly what he would do to make the repairs, and what I needed to look for as the summer progresses. I was impressed that though he diagonsed the source of my problem to be a freon leak, he did not pressure me to have the system tested for the leak. He instead explained that the testing would be expensive and that it might yield the size/source of the leak. He instead sold me a couple of pounds of freon and recommended that I monitor the air temp in the house for the remainder of the summer, and elect to have the system tested if the air temp warmed up again. He also took the time to tell me that the freon for my system has been banned by the EPA, and the existing stock that's still available would increase in price for the next few years before eventually drying up, and that if planned to stay in my home for a long time, I would need to consider replacing the unit altogether.

I spoke with Lisa at Dick's Heating and Air Conditioning before noon and requested a phone estimate for a service visit to a family member's house and possible freon replacement charges. She gave me a quote and advised me that a technician would be able to handle my repair request some time today. Also explained that the technician had several jobs scheduled and it was quite possible that my repair job would be at the end of today. "Great", I said, happy to be scheduled the same day as request and appreciated that I could pay by credit card over the phone. However I was ecstatic when I received a call within the hour from the technician who at the service address.!!! He professionally explained the repair situation and gave me options to correct the problem. After choosing the option that fit my budget, the air conditioning unit was working beautifully within minutes. Ths is my second time using Dick's Air Conditioning and Heating and I will recommend this company to anyone! Thanks Dick's your'e the BEST and I appreciate the 10% Angie's List Member discount !!!!
Description of Work: Technician checked thermostat, furnace and outdoor unit. Then he determined problem was lack of Freon in a/c unit. Freon added. Tech also advised there is a leak and suggested a new unit. However the addition of freon should last 2 years. At new unit is eventually, forthcoming, as for now we went with the adding freon to get immediate relief..

It went really well. They estimated 3 to 4 days and they were done in 3. The air conditioning is working well throughout the house. The ductwork had to be put in the basement and garage and is neat and well hidden where possible.
Description of Work: Furnished and installed heat pump, air handler, digital thermostat, ductwork, registers, circuit breakers, etc for older house with out central heat and AC. The system was started and tested before the installers left.
