The owner was very friendly and helpful, providing insightful information about other projects I am contemplating. I would have rated them an A, however, they arrived 30 minutes late without calling me which is unprofessional. All said and done, I would use them again because the work was completed to my satisfaction.
no comment.
"We did all that was requested. I have no idea why the review score is so low, but we will reach out to see what we could have done better. This was great customer."
"Great Customers like this make my day"
"Thank-you. I'm concerned, we have uniforms. I will with the technician."
I have forgotten the electrician's name which is a shame because he was terrific! He arrived promptly, worked efficiently, and was polite throughout. The work did take longer than I had paid for and when it reached that time limit, Michael called the electrician and quite loudly told him he had to get me to pay for more time or leave immediately. I could hear him yelling through the phone as I was standing next to the gentleman. I did pay for two additional hours and the work was completed within that timeline.
I am very pleased with the quality of the work and with the professionalism of the electrician who was in my home. For that reason, I would recommend the company. However, the interactions with Michael himself were somewhat uncomfortable from the delay in contact to the hard sell on his club to witnessing his yelling at a staff member.
"[Member name removed], I am amazed at your portrayal of my communication with my electrician and how you distorted the truth. However this is your observation. None the less, there was not yelling, or degrading the electrician. For your information, I am well liked by all my employees. I am animated and direct with the work and handling of the customers. What you overheard, was me talking to Fletcher in a noisy background. All you had to do was ask him of my demeanor. God forbid you have a conversations that you have problems getting your point across and someone interprets your conversations about you to someone else. As to the club, I own a company and you seemed interested upon introduction. Boy was I fooled. You didn't say the part about me asking you to visit my web-sight and the other things we offer. With all do respect we appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your needs, However, your depictions of me and my communications (which was grossly misinterpret) with my employees is really, not what you are supposed to review. The questions is did we provide a service art a rate, time, and with professionalism that you expected. By the way, Fletcher has been with me for more than 10 years and is like family. You should have asked him about the call, he would have tole you. I showed him you re review and he laughed. Thank you for giving me more insight to this experience as interpreted by you."
Having an older home, something always needs fixing or updating. City Renovations will be my first call when starting any search for repair or renovation.
Michael's contractor showed up exactly on time, worked diligently to remove the mirror (and clean up all bits of glass), and finally patched up the drywall that was left behind.
A bit of plaster and a couple coats of primer and it was like the mirror was never there.
All in all, a very professional company and friendly, prompt service has made City Renovations my first point of contact for handyman jobs and above.
"Mr [removed member name] is a great person to work for. His dedication is what we need more of."
"This is amazing. This is a prime example of doing a little extra does not pay off. When customers complain about pricing and how they could have gotten a better price, it irritates me a little. This job was replacement of around 6 fence panels, repair of a rotted out doorway and the opening of a area under the house where someone closed of plumbing under the home in an area where the pipes could freeze and the repair of the front porch and railing. We did all of that and more. I have no control over material. We found the stockade fence in a Home Depot in Annandale VA. but I recommended she don't use it because it was weathered. So we had to wait for another delivery, No Home Depot had enough fence for her job and we communicated that to her. By the way, I didn't say she increased the job and we added 30 feet of fence work for free. We repaired the interior of the home but could not repair the door because the wall that the door was attached to was literally rotted out and she couldn't afford to replace the wall. The bottom of trhe wall was literally detached from the base. You could kick the bottom of the wall and it would move. We installed over 150 feet the contractual fence with new post and additional lattes fence and a custom gate at no additional charge. We also repaired the porch to our best ability when we recommended the whole porch be torn down. The break down came when she kept asking for more work for free. We give work away on a regular basis, but enough is enough. She wanted us to rake her back yard, clean up all the debris from under her rear deck porch that had been accumulating for years. If anyone inquires, I can send you the pics of the beautiful fence we constructed for her that she is allegedly unhappy with. The truthful side of this response is that we didn't charge her what the total job was worth, but we gave her a quality job anyway with the limitations we had to over come. The construction that we tried to remedy was a horrible mix of home neglect and inexperienced subcontractors piecing her home together. Lastly, this job concluded in April 2014. If we were so bad, why wait so long?"
My first appointment began with Mike. He went over all of my wants and needs and explained everything that the company would do to make sure that my job was completed in a professional and orderly manner. He also explained that my job would be completed in one week.
I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of this company. A lock box was set up so that the workmen were able to come in a without disturbing me. There was such attention to detail shown. The room was always cleaned up at the end on the day and no remanents of their presence was left anywhere else in the house.
Within a week as promised my new room was completely finished. It turned out beautifully and I would recommend City Renovations & Remodeling for any needed project.
In addition to the responsive issues noted above, the electrician they sent was a contractor who 3/4 of the way through the job asked me why I contact Citi instead of his company. He then tried to give me his information which I declined. I work for a company that uses a large number of sub-contractors; if any of my subs tried to take business away from me like that they would be black listed by my company immediately. The whole situation made me very uncomfortable. One of the lights they swapped out wasn't grounded properly and caused the fuse to blow every time it was turned on.
"All I can say about this customer is that he was incredibly nice, kind and easy to get along with. I could use a lot more customers like him"
"We did take some lights down off the home. Some of them did get broken but we offered replace to replace them. The lights were problematic because they had been up for over 5 years according to the customer . The cords were brittle and in some cases they ran under the shingles and to a connections that we were unfamiliar with. We didn't know if we were cutting power lines or ornaments cords. getting our ladders around the landscaping was problematic also. We did cut some nights lights on the roof of which we reconnected. How do I know all about this job, I was on it. Given the enormity of the house and the pitches of the roof and the age of the lights, we did our best to keep from falling off the house and getting the lights off. The reason this customer removed the lights was because they didn't work anyway. If she had plans on installing them again, it woulds have been a bad call. I think the expectations on the life and usefulness and removal of the lights were a little high."
items that needed attention." He then gave the telephone number of his contractor to call and said he would accomodate my schedule.
I call the contractor and within an hour the gentleman showed up. He proceeded to take care of several outlets and tighthen them up. He then inspected the panel and said it was in good working order. When I asked for a receipt for the work done, he proceeded to call his office and shortly thereafter told me "they want to speak with you." The lady, who had earlier showed up at the house with the owner, proceeded to tell me that certifying that the electrical panel was working would cost me an additional $700.00, because that was not covered under the two-hour electrical Labor special. However, the Angie's List Description of the deal and what specifically included states: "This maintenance deal is for labor only, no new wiring or new plugs. Some example of proced you could use this deal for are: installing new lighting, dimmers and swtiches; installing interior or exterior outlets; installing a new ceiling fan; professional electrical inspection, and much more."
After further discussing the matter and letting the person know that I felt it was deceptive to want to charge me another $700.00 simply to state in writing that the panel was in good working order, the person argued that administrative costs, permits, and her commission were justifiable reasons for the price. Then, after she spoke with her boss, the price was lowered to $550.00. Subsequently, after further letting her know that I felt it was not good practice to state one price and then come up with additional costs, the price was further lowered to $250.00 and I was made to feel somewhat guilty by telling me that she was willing to give up her commission.
I then told her I was not going to pay anything over $200.00 and again asserted that it was unfair. When she kept saying $250.00, I informed her that I would not pay and would look for someone else to certify my electrical panel was working; which their electrician had already verbally confirmed. He did not have a Letterhead form to give me anything in writing.
As noted above, the deal references "professional electrical inspections" which was the work I was specifically asking for.
I am disappointed. At the very least, the company should specify that inspections are NOT included in these types of specials.
I am a retired police officer and federal security specialist, a former businessman, real estate agent, and I feel upset how this transaction ensued. I had two other professionals from Angies List here at my house today: a plumber and a roofer, and those two will receive A's. I'm disappointed that not all three made the grade of professionalism and fairness.
"This situation is not easy to respond to because its is a total misunderstanding of the coupon. The face of the coupon was performed. Up to two hours of electrical work for maintenance only no new wire.. Customer must supply all material. This is the coupon in general. We did that. This customer wanted a certification letter our letter head certifying that the electrical panel is in proper working order and safe. This is a long term commitment on our company if we produce this letter. We do not put the credibility of our company on any job for free. The letter is a guarantee to the customer that if we are wrong in our assessment we will correct it. Our certifications come with a master's license attached. Our cost are standard. Ir as not 700.00 it was 550. I was listening to the call. I agreed to drop it to 350.00. I did our best to help this customer who read into the coupon more than its face value and commitment. I am a little upset with the rating after meeting with the customer having a great interview and satisfying the coupon with in one hour. But this too shall pass. I am saddened that this project started off great and ended poorly because the expectations of the coupon was misread by the customer. I have rewritten these coupon several times for clarity but that is not the problem. customer expectations and interpretation cannot not be estimated or assumed. I will keep trying. I hope this customer understands the far overreaching implications of his comment when it comes to his misinterpretation of the coupon he purchased."
