They were happy to refund the $444 and advised how to go about it.
Description of Work: Responded to offer for bathroom tile demolition and new flooring installed for $444. Was told company will not do my bathroom because older bathrooms had cement beneath with pipes running through and they thought this was too much.

Not True. We do all kinds of tile and floor repair. The deciding factor is how much it would cost. The special was to install 40 sq feet of tile. This project involved removing 2 inched of concrete, replacing all the galvanized plumbing, rebuilding the joist system and installing a new sub floor. All of this is required before we even open the box of tile. I Gave this customer the cost for overhauling her bathroom floor. She couldn't afford it. I agreed and that was that. Why I got a bad review is beyond me.

I had a leaky kitchen faucet and purchased a $119 coupon for $200 of plumbing services. The owner came out and looked at the leak and said the previous plumber had done a shotty job and now I had a mold infestation but not to worry he could remediate it for $2,500. I called him and asked for the estimate to fix the leak. He suggested that I have my previous plumber fix it and that I should consider him for mold remediation and remodeling. Afterall, he is a remodeler. Studpid me didn't look at his profie before to see that he was not a specialized plumber but in fact a remodeler. And he is not a mold remediation specialiist either. But, he was very good in scarring me. Once again, I explained that I wanted to know how much it would cost to fix the leak. He then sent his plumber out and plumber found another cause for the leak that had nothing to do with the previous plumber's work but an interior busted copper pipe. I called a REAL mold remediation company to come look at the situation. They said that the mold was mild and not really bad and my insurance company could cover it. After a few emails and telephone calls, I never got an estimate to fix the leak. But, you know. I'm out $119. I called my old contractor back to look at the problem and to get me a quote and I'll go from there. Maybe I should stick with the contractors I know... (?)
Description of Work: No service was performed. The whole thing was a big racket. I had a leaky kitchen faucet and purchased a $119 coupon for $200 of plumbing services. After a few emails and telephone calls, I never got an estimate to fix the leak but an estimate for mold remediation.

This was the review I was eagerly waiting to get. Not because it was going to be bad, but because it was going to be greatly distorted and untruthful. The expectations of this customer is greatly exaggerated and over the top. This is a rental property that the customer simply refused to meet us at to discuss the magnitude of the repair. She called to repair a leaky drain. I wanted to see the problem as I always do. Its customary to review the work before we settle on cost. We made the appointment and did the estimate. I looked at the leak under the kitchen sink. When I finally got to the location that was leaking I discovered that the damage was far worse. The total rear of the cabinet was saturated with water and mold. Mold was also behind the wall in the kitchen and the wall in the basement. I could literally peal the wood backing from the cabinet. In informed the customer of the extent of the damage and the cost of repair. In recommended that she come and see it first hand but never did. She told me that I was a little company advertising on Angie's list and I was creating a price for work that was not needed. I was literally amazed. None-the-less I sent the plumber and agreed to do the repair for 375.00. The plumber arrived to work as agreed. He called and told me that the leak was not in the drain but in a wate3r pipe behind the wall further up. He said that a screw from the cabinet went through a water line. Of course this would cost a little more because she had tiled walls and installed a new granite counter top. This customer ask me if I would still do the repair for the same price. I told her I couldn't because the scope changed. She didn't want to address the mold, the broken garbage disposal or the destroyed water laden cabinets. We as a company try to do quality work. When we come across situations like this we tend to give the customer space and if possible, their money back. Not every customer is our customer. I wish we could have helped this customer with her rental property because no tenant should live in conditions like this.

City Renovations provided outstanding, professional, high quality services. They were on-time and on-budge. We were so impressed that we will continue to use them for all of our work.
Description of Work: Having interviewed a number of contractors identified from Angies' List, I selected City Renovations and Remodeling. We needed a number of repairs done to our home, including the fixing of a main structural beam located in the crawl space and correcting and fixing ventilation in two bathrooms. Mike Wiggs, owner of the company, arrived on-time, was professional and courteous. He provided a detailed quote of the needed repairs. When the repairs were schedule, Mike and his team arrived on-time and completed the work in the duration estimated. Mike and his team left the house spotless and clean. My wife and I were very impressed with the quality of work. Having started off with smaller projects, we are now moving on to larger ones. City Renovations and Remodeling exceeded our expectations and we will continue using Mike and his team for all of our remaining projects.

I contacted Mike Wiggins around noon and he asked that I call him back around 8pm. I explained the problem to him about my shower leaking, he immediately jumped into the price on Angie's List would not apply because the part (shower diverter) would be $375 for the part alone, so the $119 special would not work and after Angie got her piece, he would get even less. I checked and the part is no where near that price. Mike showed up on time, we looked at the shower (of which he NEVER turned on) and proceeded to tell me how and why i was having a leak because my builder did not add the proper ventilation and did not add durock and how he would have to tear out my bathroom shower wall and that is would cost me $1660 for all that needed to be done. I had another estimate from a service on Angie's List and they came out right after Mike. The estimate was $325. There was a pin sized whole in the shower hose which was shooting water directly on the wall that Mike said needed to be torn out. They cut out the damaged parts, I replaced my shower head, they replastered and I was good as new. FYI - Mike told me about another client who also had a leak and how he would need to demolition her wall also - sounds like a pattern forming. Mike's estimate was to demo and rebuild wall around shower wall. Apply durock base and a laminate cover for smoothness. Prime and Paint shower area, site work-optional (apply membrane between durock & laminate layer of sheetrock. And all it cost was a new shower head and a little plaster.

I am floored by this report. First and foremost the deverter was the problem discussed over the phone a day before the visit. This customer wanted a leak fixed. When I arrived (on time and was rated a "B") we immediately went upstairs to the bathroom. Now I cannot remember every telephone review so I expect the customer to refresh my memory because I do at least three a day and manage a great crew of 15 people. When we entered the bathroom I was first a little concerned with the cleanliness but I soon got past that. We stood in front of the shower and she started to talk about the shower wall and how the paper and sheetrock was pealing away. I did a visual survey to see why this type of erosion was taking place. I discovered that there was no ventilation in the main steam room (a common problem). We further discussed replacing the wall. Never at any time did we talk about the deverter on the visit that's why I didn't turn the shower on. After reading her distorted response I do remember talking about the deverter over the phone. I told her the cost to replace would be 375.00 labor not cost of diverter. How would I know which diverter she wanted to give her a price? It was her interpretation that she would get the deverter changed for 119.00. That would be a great deal! I told her that her balance would be 175.00. If the customer read the coupon, she would have seen that we don't provide material so there was no way I priced a deverter. When I arrived she talked and showed me everything but the deverter. So I answered her questions and gave her a ball park estimate to remove the shower enclosure, fix the wall and reinstall the enclosure. This was no ordinary enclosure. It was a one piece. She talked about her plans to renovate the whole bath but was concerned about the walls in the shower. I showed her how the steam was damaging the ceiling and the wall paper in her shower. I was surprised that there was a visible infestation on the ceiling. I have no problem letting the customer know what damage has already happened and how to prevent it. I see the same thing in most damaged baths, no ventilation and ceiling that is going bad. It not my nitch, its a common fact. In her own words the water was spraying on the wall behind the diverter. Where do you think all that extra water went? To the floor. These are the type of repairs we avoid doing because the long term effect is more damaging, Mold and structural damage. Why do you think the insurance company send in a restoration company when there is a broken pipe. to prevent MOLD. The environment between the walls is perfect for mold. No attention was paid to drying out the floor where the water went. We just don't sloppy work. I stand behind the fact that the shower needed to be removed to dry out the lower floor and under the shower. I constantly try to educate customers about the dangers of water. Some battles I win others I loose because cost is the driving factor. Secondly, we don't use Durock. When we renovate a bathroom we attach a 5yr guarantee against any water, tile or structural damage. Providing an unfavorable review for an estimate and scope is a little extreme. None-the-less, her 375.00 repair will come back to haunt her. I've seen it far too often in my 37yrs of experience. I'm also an inspector and a certified mold Remediation Supervisor and soon to be certified in Infra Red technology level 1 inspector just for these situations. .And to think, I just gave her a verbal estimate. All I can say is WOW! In reading her review, the only thing she had a problem with was the pricing and scope. But in her eagerness to defame me she rated me poorly in everything else when price should have been the only bad rate. Again, WOW! I will use this platform to say that there is s similar customer that will also rate Us badly because of a huge amount of mold and our inability to resolve the problem because it would involve the demo of a newly tiled wall. The culprit is he contractor that hung the cabinets. They drove a screw through a water line and its been leaking for several weeks. Black mold is everywhere between the walls and the base cabinet is so saturated with water that I can peal the wood from it with my bare hands. She wants us to demo the tile wall, remove the cabinets to look for the leak for 119.00, Incredible. She needs air scrubbers, demo and removal of everything wet, drying equipment and fungicide and the area quarantined from her tenants. I'm waiting on her bad review on pricing. I hope the reader walks away from this response with one thing. Water is the worst thing to ignore in your home.

We located this company by searching on Angie's list. Michael gave us a time window of two hours, and arrived at the appropriate time. He explained exactly what he was doing so that we would be able to perform the job ourselves if the problem occurred in another faucet. We were missing some tubing, so he went to the store and purchased the necessary materials. He was very efficient and accomplished the work quickly. He also left us a tool in case anything had to be done to the faucet later, and he labeled it and taped it under the kitchen sink where we could find it again. We would definitely recommend him and intend to get an estimate from him on a job involving drywalling and insulating a beamed ceiling later this year.

While his price was higher than other contractors, his work was exceptional and he was pleasant to deal with. I feel that I could have had the work done cheaper, but it was worth paying more for the piece of mind of knowing I had a reliable contractor. I would definitely use Mike Wiggs again.

Mike and the team from City Renovations were truly amazing! Once Mike was told of the leak, he dropped everything and came right over. He quickly found the cause of the leak, stopped it, and worked with the water mitigation team to ensure the house was going to be dry prior to any other work that was needed. He actually ended up supervising the water mitigation team my insurance company sent to the house and suggested ways they could prevent more damage and save an entire day waiting for the wood in the floor, ceiling, and walls to dry. Once dry, his team expertly match the hardwood floor and discovered some shortcuts the previous renovators had taken once they removed our standing cabinets in the kitchen. They also discovered black mold on the walls behind the cabinets. Once the mold was discovered, the City Renovation team covered the entire wall to prevent the spread of spores. My insurance company came out to inspect the mold and, once again, Mike and his team led the way on how to best remove the molded wall and inspect further to ensure it wasn't spread in other areas. I was concerned about the noise, timing, and dust from the project - not only did my wife and I have an anniversary in 10 days, we also had a newborn. The team at City Renovations walked us through the entire process, they were at the house at the crack of dawn every day and worked on Saturdays too to undertake a large job in such a short time. Mike made many suggestions on ways to improve upon our home. Everything from braided tubes that automatically shut-off to prevent future flood damage, to better lighting and shelving ideas in the basement were suggested and our house is better than ever. Not only did the team work non-stop, they were friendly, professional, and completed the job on time. I will always keep City Renovations number on my speed dial and recommend Mike and the rest of the team, without any hesitation. They are truly the best - even though it was our first time meeting Mike it was like meeting family!!
Description of Work: My family came home from a long weekend trip to find our finished basement had water pouring from the basement ceiling. It was caused from a leak upstairs behind the refrigerator and a large portion of the basement ceiling, basement walls, as well as the hard wood floors in the kitchen and parts of the dining room. While removing the standing cabinets that were in the kitchen so the floor could completely dry, black mold was discovered behind the cabinets. The mold was from a time before we purchased the house. Mike and the great team from City Renovations matched and replaced the hardwood floors and fully renovated our basement (dry wall, plaster, paint, light fixtures, etc).

I have a basement apartment in my house and needed to get it set-up and ready for the next tenant. I originally sent them en e-mail with a list of the work I needed to get done. I did not get a response to the first, second or third email sent, so I called them personally. I finally got them to come out and when I advised the gentleman I had purchased two deals from Angie’s List he was appalled and I got the impression that he did not want to do the work at all. He was nasty, combative and unpleasantly rude. Made it sound as though my business was not worth the money or his time. It was a terrible first impression and he was unhappy that I had purchased a coupon and tried to redeem it. He did not appreciate my business as did not even attempt to retain me as a customer and I told him I would rather find someone else to do the work.

This comment raises to the level of slander. This customer called me on the phone to set up an appointment after I missed her email. I saw the list. she informed me that she purchased two 3 hour handyman deals. I told her that she could not use two deals together at the same time. I ask why didn't she purchase the 6 hour deal. She told me that she didn't see it. I said we would try to do the work. She was raving about how he would give me a good review if I did the work. The two deals were 229.00 per. I made the appointment and met with her. I knew about the floor, touch up items and so forth. When I arrived the first thing that she showed me was a custom front door Slab that she wanted installed. I immediately told her that we could not do that with the coupon. I tried to explain that the coupon was for light around the house work not anything major. She said "I don't want to use you because I feel you have been abusive to me get out" I proceeded to leave because I didn't want to try to reason with her because the atmosphere was already charged. I expected a unsavory review but not fabrications. All that she said is not in any previous reviews because it not my nature to be combative, rude or disrespectful to anyone. But it is my nature to leave when told to do so. This review in its current for should not be allowed to stand. . I understand that this is a customer based forum and the integrity of the company is to allow customers to post there comments, but when they become inflammatory abusive, and slanderous there should be actions taken. I understand that the customer is the driving factor but we as contractors, workers and service providers are an integral part of your success also. I've posted responses to comment in the past and I have not seen them post. Whats the reason for posting a reply if both sides of the comment cannot be reviewed?

I went to do a simple replacement of the washer on the hot water tap for our 2nd bathroom. I shut off the water at the water and went to work. When we turned the shut-off valve back-on it started to leak. It continued to leak in any position so we had to shut off the water at the meter as well. He got a plumber out to me same day. The B for responsiveness and professionalism is for after the fact related to billing. I had paid for an Angie's deal for a discount price on the plumbing. The work required more time than the deal covered so I owed some additional cost, but it took a week and several emails back and forth to get the cost correct. A few weeks later I received a follow-up that I owed a balance and it took a bit more correspondence to sort out.

The service professional that represented City Renovations and Remodeling was Fletcher Stewart. He came prepared to get to work immediately. He was prompt, professional and courteous. After spending a few moments asking me about the scope of the work, he then prioritized everything by my most important needs. I call Mr. Michael on Friday morning January 4, 2013 and left a message on his voicemail and he responded in a timely manner, I explained to him that my Moen kitchen faucet was leaking and wanted to know if I could get it repaired and he stated that this type of faucet needed to replaced instead of repaired, in which he was right (because I had been trying to repair it for about a week). He told me to purchase the faucet and that he could do the work on the following Saturday, January 5, which is their off day. He came on that saturday morning in a professional, pleasant and polite manner did the work in a timely manner and also show me how to install/replace if needed to do so for myself in the future(in which I appreciated this information). The price and the additional discount was worth the service. I would highly recommend and use "City Renovations and Remodeling" serivce again. Thanks Mr. Michael!!

I called Mr. Wigg's number listed on Angie's List and we had a great conversation about work that needed to be done and he gave great advice about my pending roofing job of which I selected Complete Roofing to complete the work and he gave suggestions. I talked about the work that needed to be done and we agreed that he would meet me at my house on Tuesday to discuss what needed to be one and give me a quote and date to start the job. His professionalism was really good. However, his responsiveness was not good at all for follow-up post conversation. He never showed up or called or sent an email saying that he needed to cancel or reschedule. No alternative person was designated to arrive or service my quote for work requested. I was ready to hire based upon Angie's List member reviews and even gave the owner recommendations on what to do to fix his website. I'm a pretty easy going guy so receiving an email almost 2 weeks later was complete oversight I think. Personal observation: Plagued by common project management issues of a small business. They lack the implemented techology to properly and in a timely manner service customer's. Recommendations: Use technology to help them run their business so they don't miss opportunities or turn off customers: 1. Lighting in one room was not working and I had problems with my door bell. It was recommended that I use a wireless system that I could install myself. The advice saved me some money. Didn't have enough work for the 2 hours that I purchased, so the owner offered to install another lighting fixture to make up for the rest of the 2 hours. The electrician came back to install the lighting fixture after I purchased, which was about 3-4 days later. The owner called to ensure that the work was performed to my satisfaction. He went beyond and above what was required which made me very appreciative. Excellent service.
Description of Work: Lighting switch wasn't working in basement and initially needed my door bell fixed. Installed lighting fixtures in basement.

Electrician came when he said he would. Work took longer than I expected, but was informed beforehand that it would take longer. Even attached my remote control to the wall. Very pleased with job done.

Overall, all work was done as promised. Mike was present as the electrician performed his job,. Mike considers himself an artist creating a picture-perfect layout. He did the spackeling as each section was completed. While the electrician was working, Mike even fixed my front storm door and adjusted the locking of my rear door. Mike had the presence of mind to take one of the disks cut out of the ceiling to find a paint color that exactly matched the existing color. The next day his painter was supposed to come to do my ceiling, but was in a car accident that morning. Mike put aside some personal time that he planned to take that afternoon to go to the painter's house, pick up all the materials, and come to my house to do the painting himself. Mike is a perfectionist and carefully covered the whole ceiling. While the first coat dried he offered to do any odd jobs for the next half hour. I took full advantage of his offer. When I pointed out some plumbing problems, Mike told me how to fix 2 toilets myself, instead of paying him to do it. Mike also did some paint touch-ups around the kitchen. All of this work was done on cloudy, rainy days with only artificial light in the room. The next day the sun came out and I could not see one missed spot in the ceiling. Everything was impeccable. In summary, the work was perfect and Mike was a pleasure to have in my home. I could not be happier. I would give an A+ if it were an option.
Description of Work: City Renovations and Remodeling is much, much more than a handyman, even though it is listed as such. It is virtually a one-stop shopping company providing every kind of service for your home you can imagine. The CEO, Michael Wiggs, has expert servicemen employed exclusively by his company, including electricians, plumbers, painters, roofers, HVAC specialists and much more. Mike is fully capable of doing any of these jobs himself, as I discovered first-hand. Mike holds his staff to the highest level of professionalism imaginable. He personally treats his clients with utmost respect and service and expects no less from his employees. Mike ensures that his customers receive absolutely full value for their money, with excellent utilization of time. The service City Renovations performed for me was the removal of an original fixture in my kitchen and the installation of 4 recessed lights in the ceiling. This required the cutout of 4 holes in the ceiling, proper placement of electrical wires, spackeling of the ceiling, painting of the entire ceiling to maintain an even color and insertion of the lights. In addition, a dimmer switch was installed. The electrician added an outlet for my wall phone which had to be moved due to the dimmer placement.

I purchased a 2 hour deal, and I had a great experience with City Renovations and Remodeling. Their electrician Fletcher called and scheduled an appointment in advance, and arrived to our appointment promptly. He called from the driveway at 8AM on the dot. Immediately I knew he was very friendly and knew exactly what he was doing. He worked quickly and provided me lots of advice about the GFI outlets, and my future electrical needs. No pressure, or up-selling. At the end of the service appointment, Flethcher's supervisor asked to speak with me via phone, and asked me if I was satisfied with the services provided. I was! From my experience, this seems to be a good company who values their customers and establishing/maintaining a great reputation.
Description of Work: Install GFI Outlets in bathrooms and Kitchen, and install 2 exterior lights.
