The work was actually performed last December (2013). The owner, Dave Irwin, was prompt in coming out for an estimate--not the lowest, but reasonable. Dave also took time to understand what we wanted and was very knowledgeable about possible plants (shade & deer issues) as well as what could be done with our retaining wall extension. The work was performed on schedule, and everything was completed to our satisfaction (including clean up). Dave guaranteed the plantings for 1 year. It snowed 4 days after the job was complete, and the cold winter set in. Fast forward to June 2014. Six perennials didn't make it, and I send Dave an e-mail asking him to come out and take a look. Even though this is an exceptionally busy time of the year for landscapers. he got back to me quickly, and a few days later, he replaced the plants with new ones (seven actually).. It's great to see someone who stands behind his work. We would highly recommend DCI Landscaping,
Description of Work: Reconfigured and extended retaining wall; removed some old plants; planted new plants and trees; installed stone rings around old and new trees; mulched.

I do stop booking appointments when I get very busy a couple weeks a year. The volume of inquiries at peak seasons is more than I can handle and overbooking only compounds the matter. I always recommend contacting me via email if possible. I have a note on my voice mail asking to email also. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Despite the lack of cooperation from the weather, the job went very well. In total, the job took a total of 3 days of work done over the course of 1 week (after the first day the Baltimore area got nearly 2+ inches of rain in one to two days causing the progress to be delayed for 4 days). Dave and his crew did a great job and were very professional.
Description of Work: Prepared yard and installed sod for front and back yards (~4000 sq, ft), buried down spouts and installed pop-up drains, and prepared a storage shed pad area.

I tried to reach Mr Irwin for 2 weeks to come out and assess a drainage problem in my yard. I had read wonderful reviews on Angies list about his company. When he finally answered my email we emailed back and forth several times to set up a date, which he had to change, which I only found out about when I emailed him the day before to confirm. He was supposed to show up today and never did. He did not call or email, either. I think that is rude and unprofessional, to say the least. I find it difficult to believe that his lack of professionalism and courtesy just happened.

[member name removed] and I had exchanged emails. I offer appointment times to several people at a time and the first to respond get the time they wanted. So I had to move her times as the time she wanted had already been taken. I expected a confirmation on an appointment time I had sent. I did not get it. I think [member name removed] is frustrated by the difficulty of getting an appointment scheduled for drainage work after very heavy rain recently. To her I appear rude and unprofessional. This time of year we are very busy and it is not always easy get an appointment scheduled. especially when the flexibility of the client is limited(eve or early morning) Estimates are free and we do the best we can in a very busy time with it being Spring and the heavy rains adding to our volume because we specialize in drainage. I am sorry for the scheduling difficulty.

Called several vendors I found on Angie's list that had excellent reviews and had performed work in the local area. David Irwin from DCI Landscaping was prompt to respond and provided a reasonable estimate. We met briefly and he suggested some changes to my original concept on how to do the job. His suggestions made sense and I agreed to all his recommendations. His team arrived on time, worked quietly and efficiently, and cleaned up the worksite before they left. I was able to inspect the job the following day and was delighted with the walkway and the retaining wall. I did however have some concerns where the old wall had joined the back of the house and emailed my concerns to David. After several emails, Mr. Irwin agreed to come back and mortar up the joint area. By this time, the weather had changed and it was impossible to do the remaining work. Several weeks ago I noticed that the wall had been repaired just as the vendor had promised. Overall, I was quite pleased with the workmanship and professionalism of DCI and would both recommend them to others and contact them for future work. Update July 2014. I emailed DCI to ask for a quote on some additional work. Unfortunately, they do not perform the services I needed, but suggested another contractor. I called the other vendor and wound up doing business with them. I appreciate David suggesting someone else, rather than simply saying he couldn't do the work. Shows a sense of customer service that will bring me back to him for additional work.
Description of Work: Needed a short retaining wall replaced and a walkway between the porch stairs and existing concrete pad.

I need a new landscaper as the one I had been using for the last seven years was going out of business. The first thing I did was look on Angie's list. I found several landscapers that seemed to be right and contacted them. David (DCI) had recently had a really good review in Bel Air Maryland where I'm located so I contacted him. After not receiving a return call I contacted him again and the girl that answered the phone said that they had been busy with all the snow recently and I understood. She had David contact me for a walk through and estimate of my property. I have a very, very, large property that's extensively landscaped and requires someone that knows a lot about perennials and annuals. David responded promptly to meet me early prior to me leaving for work. We began to walk the property for the purposes of a quote. During our walk through it was apparent that David was very knowledgeable regarding plants, trees and landscaping in general. As we continued I told David that I would be doing some of the cleanup and cutting back of the annuals prior to him arriving. He encouraged me to allow him to cutback the annuals and do the cleanup. I have to admit due to the complexity of the property I was skeptical but agreed to allow him complete the project. His crew arrived promptly and began immediately. By the end of the day they had cutback, cleaned and Mulched the entire property. The guys worked so hard a consistently that we tipped each of them for a job well done. David and his crew are the best landscapers we have had in the last 7 years. I wish I could attach pics of the work so you can see the complexity of the project. If your looking for a prompt, hardworking, and experienced landscaper give this guy a call. I hope he will he available to do my property each year. Great job DCI keep up the great work. Excellent. I sent DCI Landscaping an email asking for a quote to do a 'small job'. Some of the pavers in a step has 'sunk' during this winter's freeze/thaw cycle. David promptly responded with a reply email that it was warranty work and he'd fix it. The next Saturday morning, David and an assistant did the repairs and cleaned-up the site at no additional cost.

The owner is very responsive. He answered all my emails within hours of being sent. He was the first person to respond to my phone call looking for a quote. I had receive five quotes before I made my decision. He was the only one who encourage me to go look at the products. Once I looked at what I had chosen from the catalog I realize I hated the color. Dave was very patient with all my changes. They did an excellent job with my patio. I would highly recommend DCI Landscaping. He also came back on a Saturday and filled in the rest of my walkway with sand. We plan on fixing the steps to our front door and I wouldn't want anyone else to do the work.

I called DCI Landscaping on Thursday 4/10/14, and scheduled an appointment for them to come to my house today, 4/17 at 7am. I took off from work this morning to meet with them. At 7am I called the number (443) 552 8920 and was prompted to leave a message. I left a message asking them to please call me and let me know that they are on their way. I called back a second time but got the response that the mailbox is full and no message can be accepted. They never called back and they never showed up. I will not be using this company for obvious reasons.

We are very sorry this customer had a missed appointment. We had our Thursdays crossed. We went to this location the Thursday before when no one was home. We thought it was a no show, which is not that unusual. We do not reach out to the no shows because they very often do not answer or have usually found another contractor. We take this seriously and apologize for any confusion.

Dave arrived on time and immediately began to remove our old , rotting wood retaining wall. It was quite involved as the railroad ties were heavily bolted down. After removal the area was cleaned up, new protective sheeting was installed and a truckload of stones were delivered. After the bottom layer of stones were in placed, gravel was dropped in between the driveway and the large stones. The crew work very hard. They were neat, clean and courteous. The price was competitive. When I was not sure what I wanted as a replacement for the retaining wall, Dave offered suggestions based on my needs. I would use this company again without hesitation.
Description of Work: Removed current wood retaining wall on two sides of driveway and discarded material. Installed new EP Henry Diamond Pro Retaining to replace removed wood wall. Surface drains were installed above wall and release through wall to grass area.

Dave was fantastic! Came by and did an estimate, and clearly knew what he was doing. He took care of my water issue where water would pool up by the side door and go into the basement. He also made the outside of my house from an eyesore to a beutifully landscaped area. His responsiveness and sheer honesty, along with the fact that he was NOT fly by night and instead did amazing work, makes him simply unbeatable. The best part is that he upholds that if what he did does NOT fix the issue, then he will come out and modify as needed free of charge to make it right. His crew of guys were very very respectful, FAST, and hard working. This was a fantastic experience all around!

Dave and his crew were the ultimate professionals. They were here when the said they would be, they finished the job in a timely fashion and they were neat and clean in their work. Dave was here on and off during the entire job, and he and his crew communicated effectively in accomplishing what we wanted. Dave's price was very competitive and he offered great advice on plants and which type of stone to use, as well as the short walls we were having built around the gardens. I would recommend to DCI Landscaping to anyone with !00% confidence that they would do a great job at a reasonable price. We interviewed four landscape companies, and DCI was, by far, the most knowledgable and the quickest to respond with a quote and a timeline for completion. All around great people to work with.
Description of Work: Landscaping, stone patio, and stone border in front and back of our villa home.
I contacted Dave Irwin, the owner, several months before the work was done to inquire about remedying a long-standing issue with poor drainage around the house. My basement was having some moisture seeping around window wells. Because my house is in the middle of a slanting block , many neighbors also have had "water issues." Dave was very confident he could remedy the situation, and after assessing the yards, he proposed installation of a pipe system that also involved the downspouts both front and back. To access the window wells in the rear of the yard, he and his guys actually had to remove some planks from the existing deck, because getting underneath the deck was impossible, as well as install new plastic window wells there, too. Others who had come out to estimate the work (and I think I had 5 over the past 2 years!) had all sorts of exotic solutions, including digging down into the foundation several feet. A couple guys didn't even know how to approach the problem, so Dave's confidence was refreshing, as well as positive reviews from other Angie's List customers who needed to have drainage addressed. All work was completed within two days, except for the deck issue. They installed the pipes in front and back yards, re-seeded the lawn, and cleaned up. After pulling up the deck planks, I asked Dave to have his guys restain the planks, since the deck had been totally refinished the previous fall. However, when I came home that afternoon, they had done a hurry-up job, slapping on the stain, and not sanding down some splinters or nailheads. I called Dave, and he came over personally the next day to take a look. Subsequently, his guys returned, replaced one of the split planks, and restained the entire area. It wasn't perfect, but acceptable. Now that the snow thaw is beginning (it is Feb. 18th), we will see how all the new drainage holds up. I am sure it will be fine.
Description of Work: They remedied poor drainage around house and installed pipes to divert water to pop-ups near front curb as well as in back of yard. They worked in front and in back yard. They broke up cracked concrete in front, designed a curving walk and put in pavers. They replanted some small bushes that had to be removed due to the paver work. They also planted small laurels under picture window in front. They also dug out window wells front and back and installed new plastic covers.

It was very good work. It hasn’t spilled up through hurricanes and whatnot. All 3 of the companies that did estimates said that it would be very hard because the land was very flat but this company was the one that said they think they can work with it. The work was hard because the land was flat but they did it. The price was good.

The day before the excavation and installation, the owner, David Irwin, met with the fence crew and me to review the job plan. He made several recommendations for improvements, which we agreed to. The day following the fence installation, he and his crew arrived with their materials at the agreed upon time and began work. They were very professional and efficient, doing an excellent job. David and his crew are friendly and hard working; taking care to have minimal impacts on areas surrounding their work site, they deliver a high quality product in a timely fashion. The finished work really sets off the fence and accomplishes all that I'd planned to avoid future 'fence line' maintenance. The cost was as bid.
Description of Work: Excavate 285' x 18" under fence run to a depth of ~ 3". Remove dirt and grass from job site. Install commercial grade liner in excavated area. Excavate, landscape and install 4'x3' EP Henry Devonstone Gaelic 18"'x24" landing at gate opening. Install 1-3" Delaware Valley River Rounds in prepared areas.

We have used DCI Landscaping for several years and they are Outstanding! We had our gardens cleaned and bushes trimmed. We modified a garden and some sod needed to be laid to fill in bare areas. It looks beautiful and really nice to have everything trimmed properly. I like the suggestions that David makes and he always listens to what the customer wants. He offers suggestions to improve the look of things and the plants he suggested are beautiful. We will continue to use DCI Landscaping and are always pleased with results.

Dave and his workers, trucks, plants, and equipment arrived on time ready to work. The workers were friendly and dedicated to their work. They placed the plants on the ground where they were going to go, dug out the sculpted bed, put down a weed liner, planted and then mulched the bed. It took them about 5 hours to complete the job and their clean up made it look like the bed had always been there.
Description of Work: Dave's company turned a mossy, muddy, root-bound mess beside our raised screened in porch into a beautiful sculpted perennial bed that goes from the fence on one side of the house, all the way around the deck and porch, to the gate on the other side of the house. He came back the next day to go over maintenance and care of the new plants. Thank you, Dave!

Dave Irwin, owner, came and gave me an estimate for the above work. I had 3 previous estimates for the same problem but found Dave's to be the most comprehensive and straight-forward approach to correct the problem. After a slight rain delay, the work proceeded without a hitch. The crew was polite and cleaned up after the job was complete. I would definitely recommend this company and will probably think about using them for future needs in the landscaping area.
Description of Work: Buried downspouts on side of garage and release to the front of the house. Also correct the grade so that water drains away from the house. Removed existing decking and plantings at rear of house. Remove and replace existing window wells with new taller wells sealing to the foundation. Dig drainage swale from garage wall to lower left side of rear yard, approx.. 60" wide and 12" deep, cover with commercial grade separation fabric and a mix of 1"-3" and 3"- 6" River Round Stone. Create positive grade away from the house to the installed swale. Replant, re-seed and mulch and fertilize all disturbed areas.

Although I went with another contractor DCI's approach was practical and attractive. He addressed my desire to maintain as much of my existing landscaping as possible and took the time to answer all of the questions I had between our initial contact and proposal presentation. I was especially impressed with the approach he came up with to deal with the water coming off of the back of the house both from rain/snow and outflow from my neutralizer. And if that was the only task I had DCI would have been my choice.

It went great! Dave had excellent ideas for how to maximize the usable space but keep the design of the patio very attractive. The crew was professional and courteous. The demolition portion of the job was done efficiently and well cleaned up. The stone patio which is a mosaic pattern of color and stone size was thoughtfully and beautifully installed. Dave also chose perennials for the plant beds that gave us great color all pool season long. I was very happy with the whole experience. My yard has been transformed!

(removed member name) was a tough customer. He got our name from the EP Henry ditributor in the area. We completed a small retaining wall ans walkway with plantings. We completed the job and the bill was paid. All was well. Steve called and wanted to see if we fix a couple things. I agreed event though most of the complaint was with the stone color wich he chose. We fixed the items. We returned one more time with myself and 4 other employees for a full day. We made major changes at no cost to (removed member name). We agreed that this time all was well. We shook hands and I thought we were done. Now I see this review. I had a feeling I was not going to please Steve before we did any repairs(i say repairs but it was just taking out imperfect colored pieces by his standards) because the real issue was the color of stone he chose he did not like. I tried at any cost to make the customer happy.

Owner David Irwin came out to give me an estimate within a few days of my first call. Upon inspection of the wood wall he gave me suggestions for the replacement. We decided on a Ep Henry Diamond Pro stone wall. David made sure that we understood and agreed on the job prior to signing the contract. He contacted Miss Utility and called to verify the start date the day before work began. The entire job took only 2 days. The work area was neat, old materials disposed of, and new materials delivered on time. I feel confident that if there are any issues, the company will stand behind their work. The entire job was professional. I would not hesitate to use their services again should the need arise.
Description of Work: Replaced a rotting wooden retaining wall with a Ep Henry Diamond Pro stones. Corrected drainage from water runoff
