A no show for our appointment. I left two messages but was never called back.
Description of Work: I called on 9/8 and scheduled an appointment for the following Monday, 9/12 at 12pm. After waiting half an hour for someone to show up, I called the company only to get voice mail. I left a message asking whether someone was still coming. An hour later, after not having heard back, I called again and left another message. No one ever called me back or came to my house. We were greatly inconvenienced, as my husband had left work early to meet with the landscaper. Neeless to say, I won't be doing business with this company. Our job is pretty substantial, but I guess this company doesn't need the work. Would you want to engage a company that would treat potential customers this way?

I have a makeup appt with this customer. I assume they wrote this before we talked. I had the appt on Monday 9/19 she had it on the 12th. I returned her call when I got her message and apoligized for the mixup. I was away on the 12th(reason for her having to leave a voicemail) so that is why I did not schedule appts that day.

Dave of DCI returned my call within 24 hours and scheduled an appointment to come out to look at the projects with 2-3 days. I received a written proposal within 2 days of that, and made several changes (of my mind, not Dave's) which Dave responded to immediately each time. He was very accommodating of my specific plant and product requests and offered many good suggestions. I signed the final contract within a few days and was told the work would be done in about 3 weeks. As luck would have it, DCI had a cancellation and I slid into that slot, so the work was done within a week of signing the contract. Dave and four team members arrived at 8:00AM and started immediately. They worked continuously all day. ALL of the above (including cleanup) was finished by 4:30PM the same day. DCI did a great job and I was thoroughly happy with their work and the results. I definitely will use them again!
Description of Work: Basically, I had three projects done. 1 ) Removed and replaced the short, crumbled, concrete walkway from my driveway to the front porch with EP Henry pavers and added a 4 ft wide EP Henry terrace block step . Caulked driveway. 2) Removed 3 large evergreens and roots. Removed old plants, weeds and large roots on one side of the house and replaced with nine new small plants and one larger bush. Added an azalea, 2 Ilex sky pencils, a crape myrtle and a 10 ft tree to other areas of the yard. 3.) Removed invasive ivy and roots ( a BIG mess) from an approx 6ft x 20ft area, tilled the ground and recovered it with new sod.

Dave is a very personable guy...and very responsive to my phone calls, email messages. Work only took two days from start to finish. And he was also very good with follow-up, making sure work was done to my satisfaction and giving me detailed instructions on the care and feeding of my new plants/sod
Description of Work: Put in sod and a patio, cleared out the weeds, created flower beds and planted some bushes.

The biggest challenge is it is a busy season and it was hard to get his team out, but when he arrived, it took less than a day to completly redo my front yard and take down and replant several trees in the back. (The trees he removed were damaged from the snow.) He mulched in everything and left the place spotless. He gave me good instructions for caring for the plants and agreed to come out if anything came up. I love the way it looks. I finally have the yard I want in less than a day! Just ask when they are available and be patient - the company is well worth the wait!
Description of Work: I have wanted to landscape my front and back yard for ten years (since having it built) and looked for a small local landscaper on Angie's List. DCI Landscaping is a local company with the owner as the landscaper and only one crew so he can manage it closely. He came out, got my vision (it was all in my head) and sent me a reasonable estimate.

We called DCI due to the good ratings they received here. We were especially interested in this contractor because we were told he has good ideas and recommended solutions. We are very pleased with the entire process, from first contact to final cleanup. DCI's owner, Dave, arrived at the scheduled time for our initial consultation and presented us with a typewritten list of current references as well as his current insurance and license information. We had a big mess with a rotting railroad tie retaining wall, a series of steps and walkway made from a combination of bricks (many of which were broken), railroad ties, and wood planks. Dave offered excellent suggestions for materials and a layout that would be both functional and attractive, while not too expensive. He took careful measurements and brought us samples of materials to approve beforehand. The work had to be delayed a week but he gave us plenty of notice so that we were not at all inconvenienced. Dave and his crew arrived promply on the re-scheduled start day and worked hard and steadily. Dave checked in once or twice every day to make sure everything was going smoothly. He and his work crews were punctual, professional, and polite throughout the five and a half days it took them to complete the work. We asked for minor changes along the way and were accommodated without complaint. Our steep blacktop driveway was being undermined by rainwater runoff. Dave came up with a solution of a rip rap swale that is both functional and not too costly. He grass seeded all lawn areas that were torn up from construction and put straw on top to protect until it could grow, and he provided watering instructions. Our neighbor had taken out a bunch of trees, leaving us with a view of their house. Dave made recommendations for fast growing, easy to care for evergreens that would provide more privacy and thrive in our shaded environment. He procured and planted the trees and provided clear instructions for their care. It's obvious that Dave wants his customers to be 100% satisfied. We plan to have him return in the fall to do more work. His prices are not the cheapest but are very reasonable for the high qualitly work and professional service he provides.
Description of Work: Replaced retaining wall, walkway, and steps with added railing, worked on steep driveway to solve problem with undermining. Put in 5 fast growing trees for privacy.

Great job, we followed his advice and watered frequently and all the sod took. he told us what the challenges would be and we stayed on top of the maintenance and the results are phenomenal. It looks like a park in our backyard. We had other estimates and they wanted about he same amount just to till and plant seeds. This company rocks.
Description of Work: Dave came out for an estimate on a really large backyard project. We had recently had several trees removed and the area was cleared of brush and undergrowth. He shared his vision to create the backyard we always wanted, he recommended sod and several mulch beds created and suggested some plants and shrubs that would work given our circumstances. He also buried the downspouts and mulched all the newly created beds.

Although the contractor missed the initial estimate appointment (vehicle issues), he appeared on time for the second. New sod solved several problems (water erosion, moss and heavy weeds). He eliminated patio weeds (previously grew between the bricks) and adjusted the design. Both look beautiful! While I had to water heavily in the first week for the sod to take, daily rain during the second helped tremendously. I must water periodically during the summer to ensure that drought doesn't take my great new lawn.
Description of Work: This contractor performed basic landscaping services: -- Tilled and amended proposed sod areas. Installed sod in prepared areas. -- Fixed rock area in front to stop erosion. -- Pulled up existing patio and re-installed using existing brick. -- Manured a small garden spot. The contractor offered a 13 percent discount on the work.

The job went extremely well. Dave arrived for the estimate on time and provided references and other company information immediately. He had many great suggestions about the landscaping design, but listened to our ideas as well and incorporated them into the overall plan. His crew arrived on the designated day on time. It was a whirlwind of activity, and all the work in the beds was quickly finished. The initial plan in the yard was to apply sod only to some troublesome areas - about 30% of the lawn. However, after tilling these areas it quickly became clear that the rest of the yard would either need sod, or we would need to reseed the entire lawn. We decided to lay sod, and 80% of the work was completed on that first day. He came back a few days later (rain prevented him from coming earlier) and finished the job. We were fortunate in that it rained nearly every day for a week, so the plantings have taken very well and everything looks great. We are very satisfied with the work done. Dave and his crew were extremely professional, and the job came out even better than we hoped. We would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: DCI performed tree and bush planting, weeding and mulching of several flower beds, and sodding of our yard.

We were very pleased with this part of the project. It was a significant improvement to the overall property and has greatly enhance our enjoyment of the back yard around the pool. The area in the courtyard was a particularly difficult job, as support poles were put into a stone wall. DCI Landscaping did a great job at a price that was less than other quotes I received from companies that only install fencing.
Description of Work: This project was part of a larger project to redo all of the landscaping around our house. More specifically, this part of the project consisted of removing an old wooden picket fence from around our pool, and enclosing our entire back yard in a pool compliant black aluminum fence. Our courtyard was also partially lined with the fence to complete the enclosure around the pool.

I cannot say enough good things about working with Dave Irwin on this project. He spent a lot of time with us in the planning stage as to exactly what kinds of hardscapping material would look best. He also spent many hours with us in the planning of the plants and shrubs that would replace our overgrown jungle. We consulted with a number of the landscapers that were recommended on Angies List. Many would not even undertake a job of this magnitude. Others who would undertake the job, provided estimates that were much larger than we received with Dave Irwin. We like Dave Irwin very much, and he got a new job this year with one of our neighbors. We are also having DCI Landscaping come back to redo the breezeway between our house and garage, and provide a transition area between the courtyard and pool. I do not think that anyone who uses DCI Landscaping will be disappointed.
Description of Work: This was a major redo of all trees and shrubs, as well as the installation of a patio around our pool, and a redo of our concrete courtyard. Specifically, another company (Webb Tree Service LLC) removed all the big trees, but DCI removed all medium to small trees and shrubs around the house and the perimeter of the yard . New beds were prepared, and extensive new plants and shrubs were installed. The hardscaping was done in Technobloc pavers. Around the pool, we already had a concrete apron, and the patio was matched up to create a seemless transition. The courtyard required the removal of approximately 500 square feet of concrete and the installation of Technobloc pavers. The courtyard also required the installation of drainage pipes and collection drains. The patio also had a French drain installed to minimize water runoff onto the patio. We also replaced an old wooden fence around the pool with a pool compliant aluminum fence around the perimeter of the yard and along one side of the courtyard. I will separately write about this in the fencing section, but it was a great improvement.

I chose this company because of their A rating and good reviews, however, for me this was not a good experience. I contacted them via email and we set up an appointment for 3/25/11 at 11 am. They never showed up. I called them at 11:30 in case they were lost or delayed. At noon I paged them to see if they were coming as my father was having health problems and I needed to tend to him. I never heard back. Around 3:30 I sent an email and finally heard back that they had forgotten to write down the appointment and they would contact me later. I never heard from them. This was not a good first impression and we will not be using them.
Description of Work: We wanted them to give us an estimate to replace about 60 feet of privacy fence, do repairs to the split rail fence, and plant some trees to replace ones lost in a storm.

Our yard was a mess! We had so many overgrown plants, bushes, trees and a rotten fence. But DCI came in and saved us! We had trees and bushes removed, flowerbeds removed or redone, a new fence, and beautiful landscaping done. We were so impressed with these guys. I really thought I wrote a report already. But for some reason we were asked to do it again and that's ok. Even under the layers of snow, our house looks so much better. The fence has kept our dogs safely inside and made our lives so much better. Dave was just a great guy who doesn't hold back the truth. He told me what would and wouldn't look good in my yard and did a great job. We can't wait for spring to see all of the plants he put into our yard. We know it's going to be great.
Description of Work: We had so much done. Landscape, fence, a new pathway, rockwork, trees removed, weeds removed. Just a lot of work. Honestly, it was so much work that other guys came in to give me a quote and told me it would be too much of a challenge for them to do the job. But not DCI and we were so happy he came out and worked with us to get the job done.

I wouldn't recommend them. He was not very responsive when I had problems. Initially when we first started talking and he started planting and actually before he started doing the job when I called him or I had questions we could talk easily but once the job was done and he got the money then there were some issues and he wasn't very responsive about coming out and taking care of things. That was his problem. I would text him so I would have a record of what my concerns were and he didn't get back to me very quickly. He took care of some of the problems but there were so many issues. He suggested some plants that were not appropriate because of the sunlight. I had done some research and I had to bring that to his attention. He said that he thought they would be okay and then they died. It was not good. He put some new plants in and they still died. I didn't understand it. I had done everything I could do to keep them alive.

Member was very nice. We drew out a plan based on the placement of the house(amount of light, water etc...) After reviewing the plan and making several changes based on her preferences we proceeded. I answered her questions and replaced all dead plant material(5 or 6 plants out of 150) during the Fall planting season. I had to delay planting the warrantied plants because we were in a drought. She thanked me for replacing the items and answering her questions. I thought we were on good terms. The job looks really good. I would certainly fix any problems now and then.

He was very willing to work around our busy work schedules and very accommodating to our situation. We felt he was professional and punctual not only in call backs but also in executing what needed to be done. I would not hesitate to call him again.
Description of Work: Several shrubs were planted along the edges of our backyard as well as behind some trees (Arborvitae) that struggled through this past summer's heat. One of our arborvitae needed to be completely cut down as well as an additional decorative cherry tree. We felt that all prices were very reasonable and well within our budget.

Went very well. We were very pleased with the company's professionalism and willingness to do the odd job (the fence fix) not specifically related to the job at hand. Work was done within two weeks of bid, and within a week of when scheduled. He kept us informed about other commitments and why work was shifted. Did the work in the time expected (a little less than two days). Bid was about half what the other guy projected, and came out within about $200 (our fault for adding a fix). Would definitely use again

All of the trees died due to lack of water. I planted all the trees at once and they all died at once? Only one reason can account for this, lack of water. I asked why the customers did not call me when the trees were struggling. They told me they could not see the trees from the house(they were behind other trees). If you never see the trees then how are you watering them? The plants placed near the house close to the irrigation did great. The plants in question did not have access to irrigation. I always warranty plants for one year if they are watered. I usually replace plants I that think did not get enough water if the rest of the project was watered. I'm not real picky about this. I had done two other projects for the customers before with great results(there previous house had irrigation). I offered to deliver and plant the trees for free if they paid for the trees. I got no reply. Jason and Rebekah are really nice, I wish we could have worked it out.

The person did respond fairly promptly to give an estimate. There were few minor communication problems but he showed up. He was flexible in scheduling the work. He showed up when he said he would. There was one small issue with the mulch, and I called him back for it. He came back to do it.
Description of Work: I used DCI Landscaping three months ago as we had some drainage issues and the grass was not there in that part. They came to look at it and see if the issue was drainage related.
