It was okay. They had to come out twice because he didn't fix the problem that they told me it was. I told him I wasn't going to keep paying him to come out. I liked the fact that they came out a day or so of my request because I know there could have been a waiting period. However, I didn't like that the guy was prolonging it just so I could pay more.

As a Technician myself, I can attest to the fact that are sometimes service calls that come about as yours did where there are multiple problems that might not be discovered in one visit and take a little more time to nail down. Typically, a malfunction is a malfunction and it can be diagnosed and repaired relatively easy, but that's not always the case, but ultimately we were able to correct the issues with your AC. Customer satisfaction is key here though, and I'm sorry you got the impression that you were being charged for more than you received. Work was scheduled for next day after my call for service. Technician arrived on time and was qualified to perform the work. Labor cost was appropriate Mark up on parts was outrageous. My cost as a consumer for the contactor and capacitor replaced would have been no more than $60.00 in total had I purchased these items directly from another source. These were generic parts applicable to a number of applications. They are readily available and inexpensive. Of the options available to meet the needs of this application Maryland Heat and Air provided one of the cheapest alternatives that I could find during my research. Maryland Heat and Air charged me $300 for the contactor and capacitor. By my calculations that amounts to about a 500% markup. I emailed them on June 24 asking if my bill was correct or if they could provide an explanation for the markup and I have not received a response. I will most certainly not use their services again.

As I'm sure you're aware, there are many more costs involved in a repair than the part. You can easily google search "How much to replace a capacitor" and see that it runs up to $350 alone. In replacing a failing contactor on the same visit, I'd say you got a deal. Or at the least, were charged correctly. I'm sorry we weren't able earn your satisfaction during our visit. I really am, but from speaking to the technician and reviewing your invoice, I don't see any reason for such a bad review.

Pros: This company was punctual and able to provide an after-hours appointment for an additional $50 fee. The provider was professional and arrived as scheduled. Cons: I suppose it could be a crazy Baltimore market with huge inflation, but I did get the sense that I was being overcharged by this company. I paid $500 to diagnose low coolant, and to recharge 2 lbs of R22. The itemized bill included $305 for 2 lbs of R22 coolant (~$150/lb), $60 diagnosis fee, $50 after hours fee (which I had previously agreed to), and $75 per hour labor charge x 1 hour (tech was on-site for 30-45 min). Although I appreciate the punctuality and was happy to pay an after hours fee for prompt service, even with weaning availability of R22 the charges seem to amount to price gouging. Furthermore, the fees paid did not include any attempt to find the point of coolant leakage - I was told that it would be more cost effective to replace the a/c unit than try to diagnose and fix a point of leakage. Overall, while I suppose this company provides services when in a pinch, if you have the luxury of time I would probably shop around.
Description of Work: I called them regarding icing over of my a/c coil, which I had suspected with likely due to low coolant. The technician diagnosed low freon and refilled it.

Overall the service was great. I lost my AC on the hottest day of the year (so far). I called a lot of companies and couldn't get a reasonable response time. I called Maryland Heating and Air and they came out the next day. They guy who scheduled me was even able to talk me through a quick temporary fix. The tech came out on time and was very professional and respectful. The tech was able to diagnose the problem and fix the units in a short amount of time. He even worked with my warranty company by providing them some additional information. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality of the service and would use this company in the future.

The first serviceman came on time. My unit was frozen, so I had to wait for it to thaw for at least 24 hours before they could determine what was wrong. Things with date/time got screwed up on the second appointment, but when the second serviceman came, he was professional, assessed the problem and fixed it within 30 minutes! Fantastic! And I was waiting for bad news when the final bill came, but it was very reasonable. I plan to use them in the future if there is any more problems.

I originally discovered the lack of a/c a week ago. I called on a Saturday morning and was offered a same-day slot with a weekend surcharge but opted to wait until I had a day off from work later in the week. Chris was great. He was running very late due to a difficult job earlier in the day, but the office called me in the middle of my time window and gave me an explanation and updated ETA. This was a wonderful and rare courtesy. Chris later called me when he was on the way to my house. Upon arrival, he quickly diagnosed the problem and set about finding the leak. This involved taking apart various parts of the system and using several methods and tools, as the leak was in an apparently unconventional area. Since the indoor system was located in the attic, this involved a lot of stairs and time in a hot attic. All the while he kept me updated with information and interacted well with my kids. All was done cheerfully, courteously, and professionally, especially given that he was running so late on a Friday afternoon. The costs were large, but that was due to the refrigerant cost. Labor and other parts seemed reasonable.
Description of Work: Inspected and repaired our upstairs a/c unit. Discovered that the unit had no refrigerant in it and was very thorough in searching for the leak. Repaired the leak and filled unit with refrigerant (this was the most costly part of the service, since we needed 10 lbs of it).

They were good. I like them. I think I used them a couple of times so far. The workers were good. I wasn’t there but I think the area was fine. It was up in the ceiling so I covered the tenants stuff with white sheeting. I don’t really know how they left because we just picked up the white sheeting. They were working on the ceiling and it’s not really fair to say they knocked dust down. My husband didn’t complain.

First and foremost, this service was started 4/11, and they told me to wait as they would reschedule to complete service and now today, 5/12 I have just learned that they chose NOT to service as they had assured. If anyone needing work done has a CARRIER unit, beware of attempting to use this company. I'll add email quotes below to substantiate this. I have had a second compressor unit fail on an Infinity style Carrier unit, model 25HNA. The first time two years ago, a provider did work but I wasn't so thrilled with it. Contacting MH&A told me that they do work on Carrier which is why I signed on for them to work on diagnosing and replacement using Saturday service since we have a 2-year-old, and the weather began to get hot. The first guy came out and did what he could; diagnosis confirmed what I had suspected, the same type of compressor issue (I just learned that Carrier has a pattern of this kind of failure after Googling this). He told me that the office would check all information and get back, which they did. The person (whom I talked with just now, Chris) told me that paper work would be needed and that it would take time, to just be patient and he reassured me that he would call the moment everything was ready, to schedule again. Flash forward to yesterday, with the humidity and heat growing unbearable, and our home now beginning to smell like mold. I called the office, talking to the receptionist. She told me that nothing had been updated, but that the earliest they could return to look at the problem would be some time next week. At that stage I asked to talk with someone who could bump us up to priority, since we had been waiting far too long and that the weather has become unbearable in a flat roof row home. I also added that I would be willing to pay any difference to simply GET THE JOB DONE and deal with paperwork later. She assured me that she would ask them to return my call. No call. Today I just finished talking with her, who finally went to talk to Chris (he never wanted to speak with me) and said that an email was in my inbox that was received late yesterday at 9:32PM. Realizing this was a "Dear John" letter, I found it: " First, I'd like to apologize for the delay in getting the information back to you as we discussed in a previous phone call. After our first visit to your home, there was at least a week in between that was lost waiting to get the specific Warranty details from Carrier. ... "I'd like to express that there is a certain amount of time involved in replacing a compressor, replacing the associated parts, returning the compressor to Carrier and filling out the detailed Audit Form as well as waiting and keeping track of the Warranty Credit to our account that in any situation is worth much more than the $200 that Carrier is providing for the work. As a smaller company that doesn't sell much Carrier equipment, it's a loss we are not willing to take. We are therefore unable to do this job at this time." Really an unprofessional way to let someone know, that a full month had transpired to simply write by email, rather than call to say, we don't want to do this, you're on your own. For those who have had A+ experience, maybe I'm the unlucky guy. Nobody's perfect. But I stand by this review, and am completely shocked, perplexed and bewildered that they would select anyone to treat this way. This would have saved my wife and baby from living in this heat with little relief for THREE WEEKS. I think this is my first really harsh review on Angie's List. I love giving benefit of the doubt, but their continued inaction, "forgetfulness" and subsequent treatment was abhorrent.

Called the company on Sunday evening at 9.30pm. Wasn't even expecting an answer that late, but Chris picked up. He said he would call me back the next morning (Monday) between 7.30 and 8am, which he did. Gave me a 4 hours window to come the same day. Called 30 minutes before arriving. Arrived on time. Chris was extremely professional. He immediately went to work and within minutes we had a good idea of what the current problem was. He had an answer for every question we threw at him, and was extremely knowledgeable. He still checked for other possible issues within our system. He explained exactly what the problem was and what caused it. He did not try to sell us the expensive 5 hours diagnostic, saying that on a system as new as ours, and considering it was the first time we had any issues in 4 years, it was not warranted at this time. He did not try to sell us the expensive service plan, saying that the regular standard plan was more than enough with our current needs. He explained the plans to us, in detail, and said he would email it to us and to take the time to read it and call him back with any questions we had. He did not push us to buy the service plan right away. He gave us a crash course on Manufacturers warranties. Had we known him when we bought our house, we would have taken the extended manufacturer warranty on our system, and it would have lasted until 2021. Now, it's going to expire in 2016, because nobody had told us to register our system with the manufacturer when we bought the house. He did not leave any mess behind. My husband and I are completely satisfied with his services and we absolutely WILL use his services again in the future. I will be sure to recommend him to my neighbors and friends.
Description of Work: A/C wasn't working, no air was being distributed in the house. He came, did a full diagnostic of what the problem was, checked all levels, checked every connection, inspected the coils and fan motor, checked the fan pulleys, checked the condensate pump, checked for leaks, checked the thermostat, checked the pressure, thawed the coils, refilled the freon, re started the system and made sure everything was working before he left. The system is now purring and the house is cool again.

Chris, our technician, called to alert us he was in-transit and arrived within the agreed time. Our thermostat is upstairs and heating system downstairs, at the opposite end of the house. After multiple rounds of stair climbing, he determined that a previous company, during last winter's heating season, miswired the system. While on-site, we asked him to install a new non-mercury thermostat,we had purchased. Chris explained what was wrong with the existing wiring and patiently explained how to operate the new thermostat. Thanks to the technician, we had a positive encounter with this company. ..

One of our air conditioners failed to work in our office. I called Maryland Heating & Air later in the day and they sent someone the next day. The technician came halfway through the time window that was given to us. He climbed up to the roof to work on our unit, which he found that a part was faulty. He replaced it right away. He also informed me of the condition of the rest of the unit and what to expect may need service in the future without trying to sell me on the spot. The job went quickly. The technician was great. He was very professional and kind. Most people complain having to walk up three flights of stairs to our office, but not this guy. If the rest of the technicians are like this, Maryland Heating & Air wins. This was the first time I have used them and was highly impressed. Finding a good A/C company is pretty difficult. I will definitely use them again.

My thermostat was originally installed on an exterior wall. I finally got around to moving it and I couldn't have been happier with Maryland Heating & Air. I have an old Baltimore row home, home improvements are never easy, there is always something behind the walls that you weren't expecting. Even something as simple as moving a thermostat proves to have added complicating factors. Chris was great, when he ran into an unusual situation, he just worked around it to make sure I was satisfied with the final product. From making my initial appointment to the instillation everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

It was okay. They came and did not complain about what to do, so I didn't have to use them eventually. They did not want to do because somebody did the work half way. It was for someone to pull a license before they did it, so they did not want to complete somebody else's job; otherwise, they were cautious when they came. They were very respectful, so that was fine and that was good enough. They seems to know what they are doing. I can use them in the future if I need them.

We had to call them several times before they responded. The worker himself was very good and we were very happy with him. A few days later our air conditioner started making a weird noise and they sent somebody over right away and they fixed it. A brace was loose and they did not charge us for it. They got the repair done in a few hours.
Description of Work: It was a deal for $84.95 for a seasonal furnace or air-conditioner tune-up. They also repaired the air conditioner.

Starting 11/18/14 the heat was off and my house is freezing. I don't know why I was charged $180.00 for a service call for no repairs and the next day my house is freezing. They came three times total. The 2nd and 3rd time they came, they said everything was okay, charged me and left.
Description of Work: They came back out on 11/16/14 after I had purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for a diagnostic service call. He looked all around the house, he charged the $180 did not replace, repair or fix anything and said that there was no issues with my furnace and heating units.

You have a very old furnace there and a problem that hasn't been seen during any of our visits. Our technicians have been to your home, cycled your unit numerous times and it has worked every time. The fact that your system is cutting off every so many days may be related to your airflow issues which were also addressed during our last visit. The technician noted at least 4 of your return vents were covered or blocked with furniture or other items causing your furnace to over heat and cut off during longer run cycles. We have also offered to replace your old furnace at cost as a gesture of good faith for the problems we have had there which you have refused. In addition we are currently in the process of refunding a portion of your payment for the same issues. Please understand that we have at this point done everything we can as a company to address your furnace issues and ensure your satisfaction. Again, I am sorry we have not lived up to your expectations, but we feel as though we have exhausted our options at this point. Maryland Heating & Air LLC came to look at the heating unit and said that the igniter would have to be replaced. He told us that he would get the part and call us back. It has been 4 days and we are cold, and we have a baby. I tried to call, and the phone is not working. **11/11/14 he finally returned with the part and had completed the work.**

The service tech was pleasant, punctual and knowledgeable. He was here for a diagnostic review. He found the problem and resolved it. He explained the problem to me and what he did to fix it in terms I could understand. I quickly had air conditioning back again once he was done. I was pleased with his service. My only concern was that his visit was to initially be just a diagnostic visit. He did not tell me the problem until after he repaired the ac unit. I was worried I might not have the funds to pay for it, but thankfully I did. I would be more than happy to use MD. Heat and Air LLC for any heating or air problems I might have in the future. Thanks!
